Today, Anberlin announce their new EP, Convinced, set for release June 30th on Equal Vision Records. Celebrating 21 years as a band, Anberlin continue to expand their sonic palette, offering a sound that will captivate new and old fans alike. New single “Lacerate,” out now, builds on an electronic beat that leads into an immense full band dynamic. The rhythms combine into a stadium-ready breakdown at 1:55, highlighted by thick guitars, pulsating drums, and scream-sung backing vocals. The cinematic video for “Lacerate” thrives off the emotional push and pull of the song and can be viewed here now.
Diving into the lyrics of “Lacerate,” vocalist Stephen Christian stated:
“Lacerate is about a toxic and dysfunctional relationship; it’s about feeling trapped and existing only to hear negative things from the person you’re with; it’s a song about disillusionment, longing for release, and the conflicting emotions that come with a troubled relationship.”
Convinced follows Anberlin’s 2022 EP, Silverline, which marked the band’s first new music in eight years. On Convinced, high-powered alternative rock meets a new wave influence to create a correspondence of light and dark moods. Entering Feral Sound Studios in Tampa, FL, the band self-produced the EP alongside help from friends Tim McTague (of Underoath), Chad Carouthers, and JJ Revell.
Anberlin will hit the road for a run of dates supporting Yellowcard this July, alongside planned appearances at two dates of the Is For Lovers festival and at Furnace Fest in September. Full schedule below.
Formed in 2002, Anberlin broke out with their debut album Blueprints for the Black Market just a year later, which gained notoriety from the success of the single “Readyfuels”. Sophomore release Never Take Friendship Personal (2005) saw the band jump to getting frequent airplay on alternative radio with tracks like “Paperthin Hymn”, and was followed by Cities in 2007. This led to their major label debut for the release of fourth album New Surrender, and the blazing success of hit single “Feel Good Drag”, which currently sits at over 113 million plays on Spotify alone. Riding high, the band entered a heavy touring schedule and went on to release Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place (2010) and Vital (2012). In 2014 Anberlin announced they would be breaking up, but not before releasing their seventh studio album Lowborn and giving fans a proper send off with an extensive farewell tour. Feeling rejuvenated, the band reformed in December 2018 and ramped up their touring schedule again soon after. Fast-forward to present day and Anberlin is playing lively shows to dedicated audiences and working on creating even more music to sing-along to.

Los Angeles-based rock sensation Bad Omens have today released the eagerly anticipated music video for their smash hit, “Just Pretend” (via Sumerian Records). The music video was directed by Erik Rojas (Chase Atlantic, Jessie J, Waterparks) and based on a story written by vocalist Noah Sebastian. The track itself has taken a life of its own, peaking at #1 on Active Rock radio while currently in the top 10 on Alt radio, and has amassed over 135 million streams and counting. Emerging from Seattle’s burgeoning mid-90s grunge scene, Candlebox quickly found mainstream success with their deep, lyrically-driven melodies and big radio hooks, as evidenced by their massive hits “Far Behind,” “You” and “Cover Me” that propelled their self-titled debut album to sell more than 4 million copies worldwide. Their follow-up album, Lucy, earned a platinum certification and solidified Candlebox as a tour de force in the thriving alt-rock scene. While the commercial success of the first album played a pivotal role in the band’s trajectory to the top, it was their raw and unapologetically honest live performances that ultimately solidified their place among Seattle’s elite. TOOL return to the road this Fall, expanding on their recently announced festival appearances (Power Trip, Aftershock and Louder Than Life) with an additional six weeks of performances, including the band’s first Canadian dates since 2019.
The tour announcement follows TOOL’s debut live performances of 2023, headlining both Welcome to Rockville and the Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in recent weeks.
Tickets for all non-festival shows are on-sale this Friday, June 9 at 10 am local time. TOOL Announce 2023 North America Tour Dates
Since the 2019 release of TOOL’s critically-acclaimed album, Fear Inoculum, the band has won a GRAMMY Award® (Best Metal Performance for “7empest”), completed sold-out tours of both the U.S. and Europe, and headlined Bonnaroo, Welcome to Rockville and the Sonic Temple Arts & Music Festival. The first Foo Fighters album since the passing of Taylor Hawkings. But Here We Are is filled with grief and the catharsis of trying to move on. The softer, intimate moments are the clearest. There are big rock moments and choruses but for the most part, this is a tribute to important people lost: Taylor Hawkins and Virginia Grohl. The big rock song like “Rescued” and “Under You” are fun but the deep moments like the title track, “The Glass”, and “The Teacher” really show you the loss the band feels. Lyrically descriptive and not so much about hooks as about expressions, which is something that the band haven’t always done. They stretched themselves and made something strong. It’s awful that Foo Fighters had to lose so many people close to them, but they proved they can keep moving and are still here with But Here We Are. 8/10.

I was afraid going into Life Is But A Dream… based on the singles that this dream would be a nightmare. After hearing it all…it’s really not. The hallucinogenic-inspired album is chaotic at times and that’s by design. While that can be deterring to some, it also prevents any format or needless repetition. The guitar work is once again stellar and there are excellent piano arrangements in the opening and closing of the album. I get that M. Shadows voice is working in a lower octave now to help him and honestly, it’s fine here. He made that work. The GOD sequence of tracks is hypnotizing and there are huge tracks like Cosmic and Beautiful Morning worth checking out. It’s not the best Avenged Sevenfold has ever done and there are moments that don’t connect at all, but there is material here making you want to return. This album is a trippy dream but it still is worth the cosmic experience. 7/10.
