Gunship Announce New Album “Unicorn”

Gunship

Synthwave pioneers GUNSHIP — comprised of Dan HaighAlex Westaway, and Alex Gingell — invite listeners to celebrate the power of imagination on their new album Unicorn, out September 29. Pre-order it here.

Gunship invites their listeners to celebrate the power of imagination on Unicorn. Named after the international icon of fantasy and imagination, it’s emblazoned with the tagline “Imagination Is A Weapon.” The trio’s trademark, synth-laden atmosphere and transportative soundscapes have continued to evolve to include more rock, industrial, and EDM influences, and allow the listener to revel in an alternative reality on a 14-track electric thrill ride.

Unicorn boasts a diverse array of special guests, who each bring something different to the project. Collaborators include John Carpenter, Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Carpenter Brut, Timmy Cappello (Lost Boys, Tina Turner, Ringo Starr), Health, Tyler Bates (John Wick, Guardians of the Galaxy etc), Lights, Power Glove, Charlie Simpson, Britta Philips (Jem), and Milkie Way (Wargasm).

Today, the band share the first song from the much-anticipated third album, cyberpunk track “Monster in Paradise,” where they are joined by a host of hard-hitting collaborators including the saxman Tim Cappello, electro-punk artist Milkie Way, film composer and guitarist Tyler Bates and Slayer’s legendary drummer Dave Lombardo. Here, Gunship continue to evolve the synthwave genre into exciting new directions.

Stream the track here. Watch the video here.

Priding themselves in being accomplished audio-visual artists, the band also unleash the neon-lit music video for “Monster in Paradise.” The visual sees the cinematic worlds of Blade Runner and The Terminator collide amidst a sprawling dystopian metropolis, and stars two of the song’s collaborators, Milkie Way and Timmy Cappello. The dreamscape sees darkness converge with laser light in a vision of the not-so-far future, replete with towering skyscrapers, flying vehicles, and shimmering holographic displays which work together to create a vivid backdrop for the adrenaline-fueled cyberpunk rock spectacle.

Perhaps the star of the video, Milkie Way (the fiery frontwoman of Wargasm) pays homage to the indomitable Sarah Connor from The Terminatorfilms. Driving Sarah’s classic 1983 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade and providing a Terminator-style voiceover, Milkie initially appears to be giving a performance true to Sarah Connor’s character, although perhaps things are not quite as they seem…

…Are the machines recruiting humans with a mind-altering silver liquid?

“Gunship, Timmy Capello, and Dave Lombardo is truly a match made in heaven and I’m so happy to be included in this beautiful maelstrom of synth-metal perfection,” says Milkie Way.

What would it be like to attend a rock show in a dystopian cyberpunk world? Discover and watch the video here

Prepare to be transported to a world where darkness collides with neon brilliance.

From Google Bard: “Judas Priest are an English heavy metal band formed in Birmingham in 1969. They are considered one of the most influential and important bands in the history of heavy metal, and have sold over 50 million albums worldwide. The band’s original lineup consisted of Rob Halford (vocals), Glenn Tipton (guitar), K. K. Downing (guitar), Ian Hill (bass), and John “Beefy” Taylor (drums). They released their debut album, Rocka Rolla, in 1974. The album was a commercial failure, but it helped to establish the band’s sound, which was characterized by Halford’s powerful vocals, Tipton and Downing’s twin guitar harmonies, and Hill’s driving basslines.

Thy Art Is Murder Share “Keres” Video

Thy Art is Murder

Australia’s extreme metal titans Thy Art Is Murder have released their storming new single, “Keres,” the second taste of new music lifted from the band’s forthcoming album, Godlike, out September 15 via Human Warfare. Pre-order Godlike here.

A stadium-sized death metal anthem, “Keres” has it all: bone crushing verses, colossal stomping choruses, an urgent guitar solo, and frontman CJ McMahon‘s vocals demolishing all in his wake as he rams that hook straight into your brain.

“Keres” is an absolute standout in the Thy Art Is Murder collection and guitarist Andy Marsh explains why the band can’t wait to get it out there.

“It’s not often we have this level of excitement to present a new single to the world,” Marsh states. “‘Keres’ is a metal anthem filled with grinding verses and stomping choruses, stripping down some of the complexity that may have gotten in the way of previous attempts to deliver a song of this magnitude. The Keres was an evil sprite in ancient Greek mythology that would feed on the dead, but could not participate in acts of violence. We think this behavior is as relevant in the arena of news and politics as it was on those ancient battlefields.”

Thy Art Is Murder ascended the ranks of extreme metal’s top-tier bands with a meteoric underground rise as explosive as humankind’s seemingly inevitable descent into doom and death. With their new album, Godlike, Australia’s most harrowingly brutal export since George Miller’s Mad Max franchise invites audiences worldwide to join them in a fresh Armageddon.

The sixth explosive album in the band’s arsenal, Godlike cements Thy Art Is Murder as death metal’s modern torchbearers. A soundtrack to a divisive post-modern dystopia, Godlike sees Thy Art Is Murder explore new depths and dynamics without sacrificing an ounce of intensity or urgency the band have staked their career on.

Recorded with their longtime producer and mixer, Will Putney, across the album’s 10 nihilistic tracks Thy Art are masters of their craft as they deliver sharp stabs, guttural descents and groove with muscular athleticism and confidence. Frontman CJ McMahon gives his strongest performance ever as he belts through lyrics that thematically confront how cycles of violence continue over time and feelings of separation in a hyper-polarized world.

Thy Art Is Murder’s thinking-person’s blackened death metal has challenged, provoked and inspired audiences around the world. Through relentless hard work, Thy Art have become one of the most successful extreme metal bands Australia has ever produced, making history on their own terms. Backed by an uncompromising discography, the two-time ARIA-Award nominees have smashed chart records in their native country, becoming the first homegrown extreme metal act to debut in the Top 5 with 2017’s Dear Desolation.

Their electrifying and incendiary performances have seen the band do countless laps of the globe, becoming tourmates with genre-titans like Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Kreator, Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage, and Parkway Drive, alongside playing crucial festivals like Summer Breeze, Download, Graspop, and Wacken.

Join Thy Art Is Murder when they enter Godlike mode this coming September.

Better Lovers – God Made Me An Animal | Album Review

If you have missed The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, etc, Better Lovers will satisfy that hole in your life. This is the perfect blend with fluid transitions is aggressive heavy music. Greg sounds fantastic, the guitar work across the EP is creative and hook filled, at no point is the gas let up. God Made Me An Animal is the best example of many subgenres thrown into a blender and the results are smooth and easy to take in. At just over 15 minutes, the only problem with this EP is that it desperately makes you want more. Better Lovers is an animal and he’s a good boy. 9/10

Better Lovers “30 Under 13”
10 EXTREMELY Misunderstood Songs

___

From Google Bard: “Creed was an American rock band from Tallahassee, Florida, that was prominent in the post-grunge movement of the mid-1990s. The band consisted of lead vocalist Scott Stapp, guitarist and vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips.

Creed released three consecutive multi-platinum albums, with their album Human Clay being certified diamond. They have sold over 50 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling rock bands of all time.

The band’s music was characterized by its heavy guitar riffs, soaring vocals, and introspective lyrics. Their songs often dealt with themes of faith, redemption, and personal struggle.

Creed broke up in 2004, but reunited in 2009 for a fourth album, Full Circle. They toured until 2012, when they disbanded again.”

Better Lovers, the newly formed band featuring Jordan Buckley, Clayton “Goose” Holyoak, Stephen Micciche, Greg Puciato, and Will Putney, have released God Made Me An Animal, a four-song EP, via SharpTone Records.

“Surprise! Our debut EP, God Made Me An Animal, is out now,” the band shared, collectively. “Four eclectic and wildly fun songs we’ve been kicking around for what feels like forever, it’s great to finally have these out in the world. Let it happen to you. Hear all this and more on tour all Summer. The engine is turned on.”

The EP arrives as Better Lovers are about to embark on their inaugural tour, a mix of both headlining dates, with several already sold out, and performances with Underoath. The tour begins in Buffalo, N.Y., the hometown of Buckley, Holyoak and Micciche, on July 13.

God Made Me An Animal follows the April release of the outfit’s debut single, “13 Over 30,” and its accompanying video (https://youtu.be/TU-nwWuyKXc). The track, which was the first news of the band’s existence, jolted fans and critics alike. Consequence said “Better Lovers signaled their arrival with a crushing banger of the highest order,” Alternative Press dubbed the song as “ripping,” Kerrang! described the release as “ferocious,” and Revolver added that the track “delivers on the group’s pedigree, offering up all the scabrous screams, mathcore riffery and rawk grooves fans could hope for.”

“Looking back, I’m so happy everything got me to where I am,” said Buckley at the time of the song’s release. “The pandemic and the last few years made me hungrier and more grateful. This isn’t a hobby. This isn’t temporary. This is the next evolution for each of us. Greg and Will rejuvenated me and made me even more confident. Now, everybody needs to know we’re a wild animal that just broke out of the zoo—there’s no trying to put it back in the cage.”

God Made Me An Animal, which was produced and mixed by Putney with vocal production handled by Josh Wilbur, is streaming now, with physical pre-orders, including several limited-edition vinyl variants and CD, are available here: https://bfan.link/god-made-me-an-animal.

Carnifex Announce New Album “Necromanteum”

Carnifex

Nourished by nightmares and the throbbing pulse of pragmatic terror, CARNIFEX have returned with their ninth full-length studio album, Necromanteum, out October 6th via Nuclear Blast Records. After existing as a band for over 18 years, CARNIFEX continue to experiment with fresh song arrangements, and adding a unique sense of atmosphere to their inherently deathcore foundation.

Decades ago, wealthy intellectuals began installing psychomanteum in their homes; a secret room completely filled with mirrors, or a single mirror, and in complete darkness, in order to speak to the dead in other dimensions, and gain their knowledge. It was often used as a healing tool to help dissolve grief, or considered a form of prophecy. Necromanteum presents the concept: what if you could use that kind of room to speak with death, itself? What secrets of the world could you uncover from a direct conversation with the grim reaper? Not a monster, but a fellow intellect.

Today, the band releases the title track ‘Necromanteum’ which broaches on these existential topics. Watch the music video directed by Jim Louvau and Tony Aguilera.

CARNIFEX‘s Scott Ian Lewis comments, “Necromanteum is a truly special album that all of us in the band already love. Spend some time in conversation with the other side of life, enter the Necromanteum

Stream the new single ‘Necromanteum‘, here: https://carnifex.bfan.link/necromanteum-single

Watch the music video for ‘Necromanteum‘, here:

The recording process took place over the course of several weeks with producer Jason Suecof in Florida, and saw the return of live drums since COVID-19 restrictions made doing so on Graveside Confessions impossible. Mastered by Mark Lewis in Nashville, TN, the album was also co-produced by vocalist Scott Ian Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron. The cover artwork glows with an emerald and lavender fog; a ghostly energy erupting from the depths of a cemetery. Designed by renowned comic book artist E.M. Gist, this gateway represents the questions we ask about what lies on the other side of reality.

Below is the Necromanteum track listing:
1. Torn In Two
2. Death’s Forgotten Children
3. Necromanteum
4. Crowned In Everblack
5. The Pathless Forest
6. How The Knife Gets Twisted
7. Architect Of Misanthropy

Top 10 WORST Metal Fanbases (from Google Bard)

Metal fanbases can be intense, but which band has the worst? We asked AI and received a list of the Top 10 WORST Metal Fanbases (from Google Bard).

Metal fans. They can be passionate, loyal, aggressive, tribal, annoying, supportive, well-informed, misinformed, and at times unwashed. And that’s just in general, overarching terms. When you look at individual fanbases of metal bands, you discover a lot of unique qualities. Unique is a nice way to say it.

I hopped on Google Bard and typed: List off the top 10 worst fanbases of metal bands and give reasoning. Bardy got vicious, descriptive, repetitive, and confusing, but he gave his list. Click below to watch.

Top 10 WORST Metal Fanbases (from Google Bard)

No band has a perfect fanbase, that especially goes for metal bands. The bigger a band gets, the more likely it’ll attract an occasional psychopath or weirdo. It’s when a band is known for having problematic fans that a group may want to step back and say “Maybe we should address how some fans are awful, so it shapes up the rest of them.”

From Google Bard: “It’s important to note that not all fans of these bands are bad. There are many great and supportive fans out there who just love the music. However, these are some of the most notorious fanbases in metal, and they can be a turn-off for some people.”
