Opeth Announces Album & Debuts 1st New Single, “Hjärtat Vet Vad Handen Gör” / “Heart In Hand”
One of 2019’s most anticipated heavy rock/metal albums, In Cauda Venenum, will be released by Swedish prog-masters OPETH on September 27th via Moderbolaget / Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Today, the band has unveiled a bi-lingual visualizer the record’s first new song, “Hjärtat Vet Vad Handen Gör” / “Heart In Hand,” and has invited followers to pre-order the record now at www.opeth.com/stores.
Commenting on the new song, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt says, “”Hjärtat Vet Vad Handen Gör” or ”Heart in Hand” as it’s called in English is one of the first couple of songs I wrote for ”In Cauda Venenum”. I immediately knew that it would probably be favoured by ”the powers that be” when talks of future singles for the record would commence. And I was right. I generally leave it up to the labels or managements to pick the so-called singles. I’m indifferent as I put an equal amount of dedication into all songs, so it doesn’t matter all that much to me. I guess it’s one of the more straightforward songs on the album. A rather rocking little thing. It’s got one of the ”happy mistakes” in it too. Mendez bass broke down in the middle of recording. At the time he played an old Hofner Beatles-esue bass guitar that started humming real bad, but it sounded so good we immediately decided to keep it in there. I’d be putting myself down if I said that noise is the best part of the song, but it’s up there. I like when stuff happens out of your control, and it actually adds to the piece. This is the first full taster of the new Opeth album, and of course I hope you like it. All the songs on the new album are different from each other and therefore equally representable in my view. Enjoy!”
Recorded last year at Stockholm’s Park Studios, In Cauda Venenum will be released in two versions, in both Swedish and English languages.
Regarding the sonic direction of the new record, Åkerfeldt adds, “For us, at this stage with In Cauda Venenum, heaviness isn’t guitars tuned down with screaming vocals over the top. That’s not necessarily what I call ‘heavy’ music these days. I can listen to Korn and say, ‘OK, that’s heavy.’ But it doesn’t really mean anything to me. I mean, I catch up on things in magazines or online. I read about bands that have the ‘heaviest record ever,’ and I’m not too impressed by that. OK, it’s cool but what does it say? What does it mean? It’s an impossible mission, to be the heaviest. That’s been done before. Over time, I got tired of that tag. Of course, when I was younger it meant everything to me. I was always on the pursuit for heaviness in my youth, trying to find the next level of heaviness. First it was death metal, then it was bands like Meshuggah, but heaviness is now more about emotions, heavy chord progressions, music that has feelings. Heaviness doesn’t mean Meshuggah anymore, although indeed they’re a fucking heavy band. I’m not trying to tap into that anymore.”

An album review on Bloodied/Unbowed, the return album
from metalcore band Oh, Sleeper.
Album Review: Oh, Sleeper – Bloodied/Unbowed
Oh, Sleeper is an American metalcore band from Fort Worth, Texas that formed in 2006 with former members of Terminal. In over a decade’s span, the band has released three full-length albums, two EPs, and toured worldwide as an opening act. After independently releasing The Titan EP and traveling in the full Van’s Warped Tour 2013, the band went on hiatus to allow clean vocalist and lead guitarist Shane Blay to join As I Lay Dying members in starting California-based metal band Wovenwar. The band’s fourth full-length album, Bloodied / Unbowed, was released on July 12, 2019. #OhSleeper #BloodiedUnbowed
Suicide Silence Release Live Music Video
For Second Single “Bludgeoned To Death”
California based extreme metal titans, SUICIDE SILENCE headlined a special benefit show in support of Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHLA) at The Observatory in Santa Ana. Today, the band releases the live album from the night entitled, Live & Mental. Watch the live video for the second single, “Bludgeoned To Death”, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q0Y_dmdJ0o
SUICIDE SILENCE comments, ““’Bludgeoned to Death’ is a fan favorite & one of the oldest songs we continue to perform live with regularity. We’re happy to share it here with you & to continue to propel the conversation of mental health awareness throughout the metal scene.”
Two weeks ago, the band released the live video for the first single, “Blind” which can be seen here: https://youtu.be/C2VHB1DHU4E
Live & Mental was produced by the band while mixing was handled by Josh Gilbert (Producer, WOVENWAR, AS I LAY DYING)). The cover photos were shot by Jerry John Nicholl.
Hosted by Sirius XM metal DJ Jose Mangin & co-presented as an Affliction Metal Night, the night brought together the community to raise funds for the Mental Health America of Los Angeles. The sold out show raised nearly $17,000 towards the creation of a homeless healthcare center where “where people living on the streets with mental illness can come and get their needs met.”
The Cuckoos Get
Funky
With New Music Single And Video
“Why Don’t U Ever Call Me Anymore”
Psychedelic Rock Ensemble To Release New Album Later This Year The Cuckoos Announce U.S. Tour Dates With The Matt Gilmour Band
“Why don’t u ever call me anymore? Why don’t u ever
call me?” beggingly asks lead vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter KENNETH
WAYNE FROST of the Austin-based neo-psychedelic rock quartet THE
CUCKOOS on their new single and video “Why Don’t U Ever
Call Me Anymore.” The video was premiered yesterday via Stereo Embers, which described the song as “…a
catchy blast of streetwise soul, libidinous groove and funky swagger. With a
sonic attack that brings to mind everyone from Prince to the Black Angels, it’s
no wonder that The Cuckoos were named by Classic Rock Magazine as the #1 Psych band
to watch out for.” The song is now available for streaming
and/or download across all digital platforms.
“I’m super stoked about ‘Why Don’t U Ever Call Me
Anymore’ because I feel like it shows a different side of the band,”
says FROST. “We’ve been trying a lot of different things and
I’m very excited to start showing that. This one really showcases the band
jamming out together too. It’s like a really heavy swampy rock dance track with
a little bit of a funky touch. Lyrically I like it a lot because it gets stuck
in my head and I feel like people can probably interpret it in many ways.”
Watch the music video, produced and directed by FROST in Austin, here:
“Personally, it’s me trying to convey a very sincere desperate feeling that I think we all feel at some point or another when someone’s not returning our phone calls,” explains FROST of The Cuckoos.“We live in the age of swiping right and ghosting and that’s tough sometimes. I wrote it at a time where I was going through some heartache and was being totally emotional,” he elaborates, “but there’s a self-awareness and kind of tongue-in-cheek-ness to it as well. It’s very over the top and dramatic, but I feel like it was also very inspired by hearing stories of girls practically being stalked from dudes not getting the memo when they get ghosted, and that’s not cool. So, it’s kind of poking at that a little. Guys–take a hint when they leave you on ‘read.'”
Along with the previously released single “We Can Take A Trip To Another Day,” both tracks will
be included on THE CUCKOOS’ upcoming full-length debut
album due out later this year. The band’s self-titled debut EP was released
in 2017, which Relix lauded as “a captivating
blend of genres, evoking the 1960s through a contemporary lens.”
THE CUCKOOS recorded the album in Austin,
TX hometown studio, The Bubble, with
Grammy-nominated producer Chris
“Frenchie” Smith (The Toadies,…And You Will Know Us By The
Trail Of Dead, The Dandy Warhols, Scorpion Child). Mastering was completed
by Grammy award-winning engineer Gavin Lurssen (Game
of Thrones, Chris Cornell, Eagles of Death Metal).
Lauded as “The #1 Psych Rock band to see live” by Classic Rock magazine, THE CUCKOOS will take their impressive show on tour later this year with The Matt Gilmour Band (which features the son of Pink Floyd‘s David Gilmour) in addition to a few hometown shows throughout this month. ABOUT UNDEROATH: Underoath released Erase Me, their first album in eight years, via Fearless Records in 2018. The band notched a Grammy nomination in the Best Metal Performance category for “On My Teeth” and spent most of the year on the road in support of the album — playing countless sold-out headline shows and headlining their first-ever arena show in their Tampa hometown.
Ultimately, Erase Me represents a watershed moment for the gold-selling heavy music luminaries whose inescapable influence can be felt in nearly every corner of hard rock. The album crashed the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart at #1. It sees the band refine its trend-setting but inimitable style with heavy intensity and hypnotic hooks coursing through songs, like the aforementioned “On My Teeth,” “Rapture,” “Wake Me,” and the Top 15 active rock single “ihateit,” which have cumulatively tallied over 20 million streams in a few months’ time.

Wage War Announce New Album Pressure Album out Aug 30th, 2019 via Fearless Records Headline Tour Kicks Off Late September
Florida’s Wage War will release their third album Pressure on August 30 via Fearless Records. The album is the follow up to 2017’s well-received Deadweight and is available for pre-order here.
The band has also debuted the video for album opener “Who I Am.” Watch and listen here.
“We’ve spent countless hours, days, and months over the first half of this yearperfecting every detail of this album, and it’s been so hard to keep under wraps. We are glad it’s finally here,” the band says. “We pushed every boundary we could think of to make this record. Picking songs to release ahead of an album is always a difficult task but we chose ‘Who I Am’ to be the frontrunner. It’s ‘Wage War on 11.’ Lyrically, the song dives into the reality of the people who inevitably look down on you or talk down to the things you invest yourself in or who you try to be. We sometimes forget that we’re all human beings and we all feel and hurt.”
About the album, its poignant title, and the concept of pressure, the band states, “Anytime you go into make a record, there’s pressure. What you do in that studio, with those people, affects the next however many years of your career, and if you play your cards right, it can change your life. It really felt like a make or break situation. The ‘Pressure’ to make the perfect Wage War album, one that harvests what people have come to love about our band yet still grow and explore new territory and push ourselves harder than ever before.
“However, that’s not the only pressure this album talks about. There are songs on the album that deal with mental health, and the pressure to act ‘ok’ even when things aren’t. There are songs on the album that speak of not succumbing to pressure and being just another face in the crowd, but more so making a change in yourself and the world around you. Being in a band, making music, playing shows in one way or another all comes with a ‘Pressure,’ and how you deal with it is what determines who you are. This record is our response.”
Wage War previously teamed up with Revolver to premiere the video for the menacing yet melodic new song “Low.” Watch and listen here.
Wage War will also hit the road in late September on a headline tour. The trek will feature support from Like Moths to Flames, Polaris, and Dayseeker. All dates are below.
