Refused Release New Single/Video “Blood Red”

Refused Get “Blood Red”

Capturing both their ethos and the spirit of their explosive live show, Refused have released “Blood Red,” the first single off their upcoming album War Music, which will be released globally via Spinefarm/Search & Destroy on October 18.  The album is available for pre-order here.

Blending the musical and political passions that have helped the band rise to near legendary status since their founding in 1991, the accompanying music video showcases the band’s roots in early ’90s Umeå, Sweden juxtaposed against the present day, making it clear that the dynamism that brought the band to international prominence shows no sign of slowing down in 2019.

“We didn’t play a single show during the making of the last album. It was a long time to be away after the addictive chaos of our reunion shows in 2012. Playing to houses packed with maniacs losing their minds right in front of you is a narcotic to rival actual narcotics we’d venture. (Not our field of expertise, but Keith Richards definitely seems to feel that way, and he’s an expert on both.)  So as we went out on tour in the summer of 2015 we were getting pretty high on our own supply (of songs that is). It was amazing, simply put.

But it was also obvious that Freedom was, for the most part, a studio record. A great record, to us, but there was something missing as we started playing it live – something visceral, direct, relentless. At a soundcheck somewhere on the road (Austin?), Kristofer started playing this riff and we all got into it (jamming, as it were). After a while we noticed that our crew had stopped working and that the people working at the venue were standing around watching us play. Now, people at venues usually hardly notice you, they’ve seen a thousand bands more famous than you fool around with their precious ditties as they’re re-stocking the bar or setting up barricades.

So as we were settling into the riff proper and it started rolling and bouncing the way you’re hearing it today, whatever we felt had been missing, it was clear that we had begun to fill that gap. The riff turned into ‘Blood Red’, the first song we finished for the new record and the first song we played live off of it. It’s fitting that it’s now the first song you’re gonna hear from the new record because it was truly inspired by you, our live audience, the old and the new, who come out and help us turn every venue into a boiling hot mess. This one’s for you.

“If I fall, you’ll help me up, ok?
Welcome to War Music. We’ll see you in the pit.”
//Refused

ABOUT REFUSED:
Formed in Umeå, Sweden in 1991, hardcore-punk legends Refused are one of the most influential rock bands of the early ’00s. Artists as diverse as Linkin Park, Frank Turner, Steve Aoki, Duff McKagan, and Paramore have been heavily cited crediting the 1998 album The Shape Of Punk To Come as being a fundamental influence on their musical styles. That album has become a cultural touchstone for the entire post-hardcore generation as the year zero of stylistic genre-bending — utilizing electronics, jazz and slick production for the first time – their reputation tent-poled by politically radical lyrics and solidified by their energetic live shows to spread their message.

After a 14-year pause, the band reunited in 2012, playing much anticipated shows like mainstream festival Cochella and were subsequently awarded the “Special Prize for Music Exports” by the Swedish Ministry of Trade in 2013. In 2015, they released their fourth studio album Freedom, which was recorded with Nick Launay (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Killing Joke), while also turning to Swedish pop/producer Shellback  — whose credits include Taylor Swift and Britney Spears — for the lead single “Elektra.”

Out October 18, War Music will be their fifth full-length studio album and will be accompanied by a worldwide concert tour, which began in May 2019 with a U.S. tour with The Hives and three major European music festivals in June.

“Our obsession with, and dream of, a world where BetaMax and Laser Disc rule has ended,” says Maynard James Keenan. “Time for us to move on. But never fear. There’s a brand new thing we think you’re really gonna dig. It’s called Digital Downloads and Streaming. Get ready for the future, folks!”

The digital debut comes as anticipation for TOOL’s fifth album, Fear Inoculum (RCA Records), builds. On the outfit’s recent North American and European tours, the Los Angeles-based band projected the album’s release date, Aug. 30, from the stage, while playing two new songs from the forthcoming collection: “Invincible” and “Descending.”

TOOL formed in 1990, releasing four multi-platinum studio albums: Undertow (1993), Ænima (1996), Lateralus (2001) and 10,000 Days (2006); two EPs: 72826 (1991) and Opiate (1992) and the limited-edition boxset Salival (2000). The band has won three GRAMMY Awards®: Best Metal Performance (1998, “Ænima”), Best Metal Performance (2002, “Schism”) and Best Recording Package (2007, 10,000 Days). TOOL is Danny Carey (drums), Justin Chancellor (bass), Adam Jones (guitar) and Maynard James Keenan (vocals)

Let’s all take a moment to realize that after many years, we are finally getting a new TOOL album. New music has been played live. Touring is happening. Everything we’ve wanted is coming. It’s like Christmas in August. I don’t know about you, but I am so excited for Fear Inoculum that I might explode at the first note of music being released to the public from it.

Heavy Metal Parody, Tribute Act ‘Mac Sabbath’ Takes Wellmont Theater by Storm

Curious about the heavy sounds and lyrical joys of “drive-thru metal?” The curiosity ends here, as surging parody/tribute band, Mac Sabbath, takes the stage at northern New Jersey’s premier concert venue, the Wellmont Theater, on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. The group will unleash its underground parody metal sound in Montclair as it continues its 2019 “American Cheese Tour.”

True: There are those who admire Black Sabbath. There are others who appreciate American fast food – in all its greasy, salty glory. But never have the two been joined so closely. Cue Mac Sabbath, the YouTube-friendly parody band from Los Angeles.

The group consists of identifiable front-man Ronald Osbourne, along with Slayer MacCheeze, Grimalice and Catburglar. Backed by manager and spokesperson Mike Odd, also the lead singer of a visually inspired hard-rock band Rosemary’s Billygoat, Mac Sabbath continues to pioneer drive-thru metal, while both joining and admonishing fast food culture.

The group is known for tunes drawn from Black Sabbath hits, including “More Ribs,” “Pair-a-buns,” “Sweet Beef,” “Frying Pan” and more.

This “drive-thru metal” and Sabbath tribute band is said to have been born in a fast food restaurant in 2013 when lead singer Ronald Osbourne – in full clown getup – convinced soon-to-be manager Mike Odd to back the concept of fast food-fueled rock music. Odd was sold, the band flourished and, today, it continues to tour the nation behind both identifiable costumes and heavy guitar solos.

Osbourne and his bandmates will bring their eccentric, high-energy tunes to Montclair this August – in a performance sure to be colorfully loud, undeniably memorable and as potent as a fast-food overload. It’s a can’t-miss performance from these likable burger-rock artists!

Don’t miss the show on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. EST. The Wellmont Theater is located at 5 Seymour St., Montclair, N.J., 07042.

Wage War Drop TWO New Songs at Loudwire + SiriusXM

Wage War + Loudwire Premiere
New Song “Me Against Myself”

SiriusXM’s Octane Premieres New Song “Prison”

New Album Pressure Out August 30 Via Fearless Records

Florida’s Wage War will release their third album Pressure on August 30 via Fearless Records. The album is the follow up to 2017’s well-received Deadweight and is available for pre-order here.

Wage War have partnered with Loudwire to premiere the new song “Me Against Myself.” Listen here

“‘Me Against Myself’ is probably our farthest journey into the melodic world,” the band told Loudwire. “From the very first demo, we knew it was special. The lyrics are about as transparent as it gets — dealing with the fact that a lot of times, we’re our own worst enemy. We’ve always prided ourselves on being versatile and pushing ourselves to create something new and different, and that’s what this song stands for.”

The band also dropped the new song “Prison” at SiriusXM’s Octane. Listen here.

“‘Prison’ is one of the first looks at us stepping out of the box on this record,” the band said about the track. “It harbors all the aggression our band is known for — but with some new twists. We had a blast writing it.”

Wage War will also hit the road in late September on a headline tour. The trek will feature support from Like Moths to Flames, Polaris, and Dayseeker. All dates are below.

Animal rights are very important to me, but the bigger picture is that all life has value and my goal is to try to get, not just our fanbase, but the world, to think in those terms. Rock and roll isn’t always pretty.
Let’s look at some of the craziest

The original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Aaron Lewis, lead guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist and backing vocalist Johnny April, and drummer Jon Wysocki. Asking Alexandria are an English rock band from YorkNorth Yorkshire, consisting of lead vocalist Danny Worsnop, guitarists Ben Bruce and Cameron Liddell, drummer James Cassells and bassist Sam Bettley.

Five Finger Death Punch, often shortened to Five Finger or Death Punch, also abbreviated as 5FDP or FFDP, is an American heavy metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Formed in 2005, the band’s name comes from kung fu cinema.

L7 is an American punk rock band from Los AngelesCalifornia, first active from 1985 to 2001 and re-formed since 2014.  Due to their sound and image, they are often associated with the grunge movement of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Kings of Leon is an American rock band that formed in NashvilleTennessee, in 1999. The band is composed of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill with their cousin Matthew Followill.

10 Bands You Need To See Live!

Baroness Is Golden | Photos | St. Louis, MO

Photos of Baroness at The Ready Room.
All photos taken by Luke Spencer
in St. Louis, MO on July 28th, 2019.

According to John Baizley, St. Louis is a home away from home. He addressed St. Louis as a second home at The Ready Room mid set and thanked the crowd for always coming to Baroness shows over the years. Not only are their family roots from the band in the gateway to the west, but this band feels like that extended family that makes everything better when they visit.

This was my third time seeing Baroness live and it was by far the best I have heard them sound. Whether it was the technical sound they demonstrated while covering the Green Theme, bringing up an additional singer/violinist for “Cold Blooded Angels”, or the sing-along that came with “Chlorine and Wine”, Baroness nailed it in St. Louis with their performance.

The band is currently promoting the release of the latest (and final) in the color theme album Gold & Grey. The setlist included many of these new golden tracks that shined through the night. There was good variety in said setlist (photo attached in the gallery) from songs throughout the years and one of the biggest moments came from the crowd singing along to “Shock Me” which might have startled the foot traffic outside of the venue.

With new guitarist in Gina Gleason now having recorded with the band and Baroness touring heavily through 2019, it begs the question what will the band do next? Will there be a new set of concept albums or maybe a live album? Will Baroness go overseas? Regardless of what direction the band will head in next, it’s clear they are still capable of smooth sailing as well as bringing along many fans who want to set sail with the crew.

You can find upcoming tour dates and more information on Baroness’ Facebook page here: Baroness on Facebook. Click on any photo above to open the gallery and scroll below to hear new music from the band’s latest album and an album review on Gold & Grey.

Alter Bridge Release New Song “Pay No Mind”

Alter Bridge Release New Track “Pay No Mind”
From Upcoming Album Walk The Sky

As the debut single “Wouldn’t You Rather” continues to climb the Active Rock charts, Alter Bridge have released another track from their upcoming release Walk The Sky (October 18th via Napalm Records).“Pay No Mind” is now available on all digital service providers around the globe and a static video for the track can be seen here: https://youtu.be/o_dNolzhErA

The song offers a deeper insight into the expanded sound that Myles Kennedy on vocals/guitars, Mark Tremonti on guitars/vocals, Brian Marshall on bass and Scott Phillips on drums have adopted on their upcoming release. The debut single “Wouldn’t You Rather” currently sits in the Top 25 at Active Rock in less than a month since it was released. The video for the single is quickly approaching a million views and can be seen here: https://youtu.be/bAz1vYAwVKE.

For over 15 years, Alter Bridge has been a band known for blurring the line between hard rock and heavy metal. Recorded in a way never done before, the album was born from complete song ideas created by Kennedy and Tremonti. These songs would then be worked on by the entire band to create the fourteen songs that would make Walk The Sky the listening experience it is. This varies from the band’s previous method going back to their sophomore release Blackbird where Kennedy and Tremonti would combine individual ideas and riffs alongside producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette to form some of the band’s most revered songs.

From the opening vocal melody on “One Life” to the moving finale of “Dying Light,” Alter Bridge have created a formidable addition to their music catalog. Songs like “Godspeed,” “Native Son” and “Walking On The Sky” are sure to be early additions to the live set. “Forever Falling” also marks a lead vocal return from Tremonti with Kennedy taking the chorus as done previously on the Fortress favorite “Waters Rising.”

The album is now available for pre-order at https://smarturl.it/WalkTheSky.

Recently, Alter Bridge announced the VICTORIOUS SKY TOUR beginning in September that will take them throughout the United States co-headlining alongside Skillet with special guest Dirty Honey opening. The European headline tour billed as the WALK THE SKY TOUR is scheduled for November and December and will feature Shinedown, Sevendust and The Raven Age. The band has also been announced as part of the inaugural Exit 111 festival in October and as a headliner of the sold-out 2020 sailing of Shiprocked.
