New Jersey post-hardcore outfit With Sails Ahead have released a long-awaited single, “Darting Eyes”. Their first since 2022’s “Acid Redux”, it’s been a long time coming for the burgeoning five-piece. Engineered and produced by guitarist Josef Warner-Reyes, mixed by August Axcelson (ASkySoBlack, Kaonashi), and mastered by Kris Crummett (Hail the Sun, Issues), the sound’s only further enhanced with the dream-team behind it.
Arguably their most polished work yet, “Darting Eyes” is a blast to listen to as vocalist Sierra Binondo flexes her juxtaposing harsh vocals with a gorgeous chorus. The most striking part, though, is the riff that follows the chorus – as technical as it is heavy, it’s a refreshing listen and honestly pretty natural to put on repeat for fans of the guitar lead in its closing minute. Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Kris Khunachak with some neat psychedelic vfx and some camaraderie that adds to the song’s flair. I had a chance to hear this song played live when the group made their way to Chicago this summer and anxiously waited for its release date.
