Band Previews New Album With “Paradise” Song Stream
North American Tour Kicks Off On Aug. 28
Tropical F*** Storm, the off-kilter, avant-psych Australian outfit, release their sophomore album, Braindrops, on Aug. 23 via Joyful Noise Recordings.
“I’ve invented fake news as a genre of music,” TFS singer/songwriter Gareth Liddiard states on the new album. Braindrops overflows with compelling sounds and visions that reflect the often dark and fractured reality of life on planet Earth as we hurtle toward environmental and social decay at a frighteningly rapid clip. Liddiard and his TFS co-conspirators, bass player Fiona Kitschin (his Drones’ bandmate), guitar player Erica Hung (Harmony/Palm Springs) and drummer Lauren Hammel (High Tension) recorded the nine-song album in the Australian outback, at the outfit’s “Dodgy Brothers Studio” in regional Victoria. A preview of the nine-song collection is available via the newly released song “Paradise”
Tropical F*** Storm released their debut, A Laughing Death In Meatspace, to worldwide acclaim, with Australia’s Double J saying the album is “filled with the sort of acerbic wit only Gareth Liddiard can muster, this is the most essential, moody, pulverising, funny, off-key, venomous Antipodean post punk album of the year.”
The UK’s Guardian newspaper called the nine-track release “a glorious detour into deconstructed rock music, reflective of social malaise and unafraid to tell it like it is.” U.S. outlets praised the release, with Slatesaying the outfit sound “like the Mekons under assault by both Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band and a sentient PlayStation,” adding “Tropical F*** Storm radiates a vitality I would follow anywhere, very much at my own risk.”
The band previously released the track “The Planet of Straw Men” (https://youtu.be/M2xOxmHTYMg) as a limited edition 7-inch and accompanying digital single.
