Slowdive Make Everything Alive In Richmond

Selling out The National in Richmond, VA has become difficult for alternative bands (and any band really), but Slowdive achieved the feat by packing in people up to the back of the balcony. Everything was alive in Richmond as the shoegaze legends performed for over 90 minutes. After the impressive success of last year’s Everything Is Alive, Slowdive proved that there is still a diehard audience for this form of music.

Opening with Everything Is Alive’s “shanty” set the tone as many of the tracks felt extended for jam sessions and setting the mood for a rainy November night in Richmond. It was the type of performance that had everyone in attendance wearing a slight smile on their face as instruments were played endlessly with little to no downtime through the set.

This will most likely be my final concert to shoot for 2024, and I’m glad I closed out my year with such a strong performance. Slowdive sounded better live than I could have imagined. I had several people message me at this show saying they were jealous of getting to see Slowdive live, and now after seeing them for the first time, I understand why anyone would be jealous for missing out on a group like this.
