Bad Omens slither through boundaries, only to ultimately choke convention in the process. The quartet—Noah Sebastian (vocals), Joakim “Jolly” Karlsson (guitar), Nick Ruffilo (bass), and Nick Folio (drums)—materialize with ghostly atmospherics, striking hooks, and the tingles of sensual high-register harmonies uplifted by cinematic production. Racking up over 250M worldwide streams to date and earning acclaim, the band presents an uncompromising and undeniable vision on their third full-length album, ‘THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND’ (Sumerian Records).

“Making the record changed us as songwriters and musicians. In many ways, I feel like it set me free as an artist because every decision made in the writing process was for myself, with no fear for anyone else’s expectations of what our third album should sound like. Be it our fans or our record label.”

They’ve always wielded this level of magic though…

The group’s 2016 self-titled debut, ‘Bad Omens’, yielded fan favorites such as “Glass Houses” and “The Worst In Me” which eclipsed nearly 25 million Spotify streams. On its heels, 2019’s ‘Finding God Before God Finds Me’ spawned “Dethrone” (14.6 million Spotify streams) and “Careful What You Wish For” (10 million Spotify streams). Along the way, they toured with numerous marquee acts and received tastemaker praise.

After their first headline tour was canceled mid-way at the top of the global pandemic, the band found themselves at home in Los Angeles with plenty of time. Where they absorbed and imparted a different palette of unexpected inspirations. Channeling what the frontman describes at times as a “cursive sound” they embraced newfound confidence and boundlessly loose creativity. Anything went in the studio, and all “rules” were broken. Noah and Jolly wrote, produced, and engineered the music themselves while GRAMMY® Award-nominated producer and songwriter Zakk Cervini (Halsey, Grimes, Poppy, blink-182) lent his talents with the mix and master. Challenging himself, Noah decided to “make a track sampling items around the house, none of which were musical instruments”.

This ultimately became the framework for the first single “THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND”. Claps puncture the icy soundscape as his voice stretches from a breathy moan into an evocative and entrancing hook, breaking from a whisper into the seductive chant, “It wasn’t hard to realize. Love’s the death of peace of mind.” It culminates on a climactic scream uplifted by a distorted crunch.

“The whole record really details the loss of peace of mind,” he explains. “The lyrics in the title track are a little more specific in terms of the conflict at the heart of something more intimate and personal.”

By speaking it aloud, Bad Omens offer a level of comfort and empathy, with a sinister shroud. At the same time, they also give rock music a sexy new shape on THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND’.

“Sonically, we want to do something you can’t arrive late or early too,” he leaves off. “You can’t cheat your way to the final act. You have to get on the ride and process it until the end. The songs are meant to be heard from start to finish. We want you to take the whole trip with us.”

Parkway Drive Share “Darker Still” Video

Australian metal juggernauts PARKWAY DRIVE — Winston McCall (vocals), Luke Kilpatrick (guitar), Jeff Ling (guitar), Jia O’Connor (bass), and Ben Gordon (drums) — will drop their seventh album DARKER STILL on September 9 via Epitaph RecordsDarker Still, their first full-length since 2018’s Reverence,can be pre-ordered here.

Today, the band has shared the video for the title track. Watch it here

The song is unlike anything you’ve previously heard from Parkway Drive — it’s a monumental song in scope, with career-defining performances all around. “Darker Still” creeps to life with a whistle and an acoustic guitar. From here — for close to seven minutes — the band takes the listener on a sweeping odyssey through guitar solos, ethereal choirs and strings, and a surprising vocal performance from McCall.

“Love. Time. Death. The great defining elements that make up our existence. This song begins with the simplest of human sounds and represents these elements as the musical journey grows to reach its souring crescendo before facing the inevitable conclusion of its journey. The night grows dark… darker still,” states the singer.

DARKER STILL TRACK LISTING:
“Ground Zero”
“Like Napalm”
Glitch
The Greatest Fear
“Darker Still”
“Imperial Heretic”
“If a God Can Bleed”
“Soul Bleach”
“Stranger”
“Land of the Lost”
“From the Heart of the Darkness”

In the kitchen of the Byron Bay home of Winston McCall stands a refrigerator, adorned on one side by a quote from Tom Waits: “I want beautiful melodies telling me terrible things.”

This, the Parkway Drive vocalist says, is a pretty good summation of himself. It holds true, too, as one of the guiding principles behind Darker Still, the seventh full-length album to be born of this picturesque and serene corner of north-eastern NSW, Australia, and the defining musical statement to date from one of modern metal’s most revered bands.

Darker Still, McCall says, is the vision he and his bandmates have held in their mind’s eye since a misfit group of friends first convened in their parents’ basements and backyards in 2003. The journey to reach this moment has seen Parkway evolve from metal underdogs to festival-headlining behemoth, off the back of close to 20 gruelling years, six critically and commercially acclaimed studio albums (all of which achieving Gold status in their home nation), three documentaries, one live album, and many, many thousands of shows.

“When Parkway originally started out, we all were trying to push ourselves to do more than we possibly could,” is how McCall explains it. “What you hear on Darker Still is the final fulfillment of our ability to learn and grow catching up with the imagination that we have always had.”

To understand that growth is to understand Darker Still, both musically and thematically. Those who thought they had Parkway Drive figured out — the unrivaled energy, the high-octane breakdowns, McCall’s trademark bark — need reconsider everything they know about Australia’s masters of heavy. Darker Still stands as the culmination of a transformative time that has seen Parkway reach new heights of creativity and success by eschewing the restrictive, safe conventions of genre and abandoning their own self-imposed rules in favor of a wide-eyed appreciation of bold new horizons. “There are compositions and songs that we’d never attempted before — or, to be more accurate, which we have attempted in the past, but not had the courage, time or understanding to pull off,” McCall reveals.

And so while Darker Still remains irrefutably Parkway Drive, it finds the band sonically standing shoulder to shoulder with rock and metal’s greats — Metallica, Pantera, Machine Head, Guns N’ Roses — as much as it does their metalcore contemporaries. The album explores the concept of the “dark night of the soul,” which is “the idea of reaching a point in your life where you are faced with a reckoning of your structure of beliefs, your sense of self and your place in the world, to a point where it’s irreconcilable with the way that you are as a person,” as McCall describes. Darker Still unfurls like the great rock concept albums, from Pink Floyd to, most comparably, Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral, its 11 tracks taking in ruminations on society’s fear of death, isolation, and a loss of humanity in its journey to redemptive enlightenment.

This is the Parkway Drive the band have been striving to be for two decades. Guitarist Jeff Ling says it best: “I’m really proud of what we have achieved together, and feel that as musicians, we have really ascended to new realms of class and ability.”

Emerging from the darkness of the past few years, this is the true face of Parkway — redefined and resolute, focused in mind, and defiant in spirit.

10 Reasons Why Machine Gun Kelly Is Awful

Machine Gun Kelly has been a controversial figure across two genres and for many reasons. This video looks at 10 reasons why MGK is awful.

Click here for a video on
10 Reasons Why Dave Grohl Is Awesome!

Colson Baker known professionally as Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), is a notable American musician, singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He is noted for his genre duality across alternative rock with hip hop.

Tickets to My Downfall is the fifth studio album by American musician Machine Gun Kelly. A departure from his established rap sound, the album is a more guitar-driven pop-punk album. It was released through Bad Boy Records and Interscope Records on September 25, 2020. The album was a commercial success, debuting atop the US Billboard 200, his first to do so. It was met with positive reviews from critics, and went on to be his first album to be certified platinum by the RIAA.

Mainstream Sellout is the sixth studio album by American musician MGK, released on March 25, 2022, through Bad Boy Records and Interscope Records. It is his second collaborative project with drummer and producer Travis Barker, following 2020’s Tickets to My Downfall. The album was initially announced in August 2021 under the title Born with Horns, before being renamed in January 2022.

Dropkick Murphys “Ten Times More” Single And Video Out Now

Dropkick Murphys’ new single and video “Ten Times More,” from their forthcoming This Machine Still Kills Fascists, are out now. This Machine Still Kills Fascists will be released digitally and on CD September 30 via the band’s Dummy Luck Music / [PIAS], with a special edition vinyl out November 11. TMSKF is unlike anything Dropkick Murphys have done to date: A full album of songs that bring Woody Guthrie’s words to life. Not a tribute album or a collection of covers, This Machine Still Kills Fascists is a collaboration between Dropkick Murphys and Woody Guthrie – artists separated by time and space, but connected by a common philosophy – to create something entirely new.

Armed with nothing but percussion, a harmonica, and their own voices, Dropkick Murphys take on Woody Guthrie’s battle cry for the downtrodden, the oppressed, and the working man, evoking a military cadence with the song’s call-and-response delivery. The music and melody for “Ten Times More” were written, arranged and recorded by Dropkick Murphys on the spot. That’s right: The band used the original demo take for the album. Extra stomp tracks, harmonica and backing vocals were added in the studio – but the drums, majority of the stomping, shaker, lead and backup vocals were a one-and-done. The band loved the organic feel they captured on that take and didn’t want to mess with it.

The fittingly austere video for “Ten Times More” features grainy footage of the band stomping and clapping their way through the song, with fleeting cameos from effigies of some of America’s foremost labor opponents, swindlers, and modern day fascists.

Find the single here: https://dropkick-murphys.ffm.to/tentimesmore

Meanwhile, Dropkick Murphys’ first single from This Machine Still Kills Fascists“Two 6’s Upside Down, is currently at #17 and climbing on the Americana radio single chart.

Music fans from around the world can join Dropkick Murphys on Monday, August 29 at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT for the streaming Dropkick Murphys Live At Paste Studio On The Road: Boston presented by Paste Magazine and Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame, from the Wang Theatre at the Boch Center in Boston. The live stream can be seen on Paste Magazine’s YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FySSxstwTVw

In addition, on September 14Dropkick Murphys will appear at AMERICANAFEST in Nashville, where fans can enjoy a Q&A with band members discussing the new album and their inclusion in the Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame, as well as a short acoustic performance of songs from This Machine Still Kills Fascists.

This Machine Still Kills Fascists continues Dropkick Murphys’ journey with Woody Guthrie that began nearly two decades ago with “Gonna Be A Blackout Tonight” and “I’m Shipping Up To Boston.” For those two songs, Dropkick Murphys pulled Guthrie’s lyrics into their musical world, giving them the DKM treatment through and through. For this album – created from a larger body of mostly unpublished works, curated for the band by Woody’s daughter Nora Guthrie – they knew they needed to enter Woody’s musical world, an altogether new challenge for a band whose raw power had relied on searing electric guitars up until this point.

Dropkick Murphys and their longtime producer Ted Hutt aptly recorded This Machine Still Kills Fascistsat The Church Studio in Tulsa (just a few minutes from Woody Guthrie’s birthplace, and the modern-day Woody Guthrie Center). The historic studio was founded by Leon Russell and was the original location of legendary Shelter Records. During the album sessions, Dropkick Murphys made a point to visit Woody’s hometown of Okemah and walk the same streets Woody walked. Retreating to Woody’s home state of Oklahoma to record the album had a powerful effect on the band and the creative process behind these songs. Ultimately, Dropkick Murphys had so much material based on Woody’s poignant lyrics that they recorded two albums, with Vol. 2 scheduled for release in 2023.

This Machine Still Kills Fascists also features guest vocal collaborations with alt country artist Nikki Lane (“Never Git Drunk No More,) and Evan Felker from country roots group Turnpike Troubadours’ (“The Last One”).

ALTER BRIDGE have steadily climbed to the forefront of hard rock worldwide. They’ve exceeded all expectations and benchmarks with over a billion streams, millions of units sold, glowing critical acclaim, real estate on the covers of Classic Rock Magazine and Guitar World, and storied sets at Royal Albert Hall, the O2 Arena and Download Festival. On this journey, 2004’s debut LP One Day Remains bowed in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top 200 and went gold. In 2007, Blackbird’s title track took flight on the wings of the “Greatest Guitar Solo of All Time,” as voted in Guitarist Magazine, while countless fans etched its lyrics and logo onto their bodies. That album also recently went gold in the United Kingdom. Critical plaudits surrounded the 2013 opus Fortress with “5-out-of-5 stars” from KERRANG! and Total Guitar, as well as Eddie Trunk’s declaration of, “A Top 10 album of the last 10 years.” 2016’s The Last Hero saw them return to the Top 10 on the Top 200. Maintaining this momentum, Walk The Sky made impressions around the globe when it reached #1 on the US Billboard Top Albums, Top 200 Alternative Albums, Top 200 Hard Rock Albums and Top 200 Rock Albums charts, as well as #1 on Canada’s Top Hard Music Albums chart. The album also hit #1 on the Swiss Album charts, landed in the Top 5 on the Canada, UK, Germany, Austria, Scotland and Switzerland charts and closed out the year on Loudwire’s “The 50 Best Rock Albums of 2019.” These musicians have unassumingly done all of this with a quiet dedication to writing meaningful songs and performing unforgettable shows (and they’ve delivered both with almost alarming consistency). Still, the influential quartet—Myles Kennedy [vocals, guitar], Mark Tremonti [guitar, vocals], Brian Marshall [bass], and Scott Phillips [drums]—ascend to yet another level on 2022’s Pawns & Kings [Napalm Records]. It is the culmination of almost two decades together soaked in blood, sweat, tears, and the triumph earned through never giving up. It represents the bandmates’ dedication to one another and their collective devotion to a devout fanbase.

10 Reasons Why Dave Grohl Is Awesome

Dave Grohl has been named by many as the nicest guy in rock.
This video looks at 10 reasons why Dave Grohl is awesome.

10 Music Videos Banned By MTV!

David Eric Grohl is an American musician, songwriter and record producer. He is the founder of Foo Fighters, for whom he is the singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter. He was the drummer for Nirvana from 1990 to 1994.

Foo Fighters are an American rock band formed in Seattle in 1994. Foo Fighters was initially formed as a one man project by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. Following the success of their eponymous debut album Foo Fighters, Grohl (lead vocals, guitar) recruited a band consisting of Nate Mendel (bass guitar), William Goldsmith (drums), and Pat Smear (guitar). After a succession of lineup changes, including the departures of Goldsmith and Smear, the band formed its core lineup in 1999 consisting of Grohl, Mendel, Chris Shiflett (guitar), and Taylor Hawkins (drums). In 2005 Smear returned to the band and in 2017 Rami Jaffee joined the band performing the keyboards and piano.

Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers, most notably Chad Channing, before recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990. Nirvana’s success popularized alternative rock, and they were often referenced as the figurehead band of Generation X. Their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock culture.

Nothing More Premiere New Video “You Don’t Know What Love Means”

As three-time Grammy-nominated hard rock quartet NOTHING MORE gear up to hit the road later this month alongside IN THIS MOMENT, the band have shared a fourth new track, “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE MEANS,” from theirupcoming album SPIRITS – out October 14 and available for pre-order now. The impassioned song examines what happens when one tries to make a one-sided relationship work with all-too-real lyrics— “I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, there’s no rest, there’s no peace”—which leads into frontman JONNY HAWKINS’ fervently belting out its chorus, “You don’t know what love means, and it’s killing me.” Watch the official video below and stream/download “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE MEANShere.

“We’re glad this song is finally getting out there so we can dig into the emotional and intimate side of the album,” says Hawkins. “The lyrics and tone of this one feels like it hits in a similar way that ‘Go To War’ and ‘Jenny’ did. It’s going to feel huge playing this next one on tour.”

YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE MEANS” follows previously released album tracks “SPIRITS” and “TURN IT UP LIKE.” The lead-off track “TIRED OF WINNING” is currently #6 on Billboard’s Active Rock chart, and the extended version, “TIRED OF WINNING / SHIPS IN THE NIGHT, is also included on THE RETALIATIORS ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK for Better Noise Film’s upcoming horror-thriller THE RETALIATORS. Pre-order tickets for the movie and the soundtrack featuring Nothing More at http://www.retaliatorsmovie.com

SPIRITS combines NOTHING MORE’s unapologetically massive anthems, catchy hooks, and progressive music with introspective, philosophical lyrics and thought-provoking emotionalism. Its eleven tracks were co-written by all band members–Hawkins [vocals], MarkVollelunga [guitar], Daniel Oliver [bass], and Ben Anderson [drums]–and their longtime manager and co-producer Will Hoffman. The album documents the tumultuous time the world experienced over the past two years capturing the desperation and isolation of lockdown, the spiral of substance abuse, the pain of broken relationships, and survival in self-reliance while summarizing the overall story and mission of NOTHING MORE: Reflect, Provoke, Inspire. Pre-order SPIRITS now at: https://nothingmore.ffm.to/spirits.

The band has further embellished the SPIRITS concept with their self-designed meta-personality test, “SPIRITS TEST,” and their first-ever graphic novel “SPIRITS VOL.1” (Z2 Comics), which introduces the “SPIRIT TYPES,” which stem from the results of taking the “SPIRITS TEST” as the four main characters in the graphic novel.  Find out your SPIRIT TYPE by taking the SPIRITS TEST at https://spiritstest.com/. Pre-order “SPIRITS VOL. 1” (due in Spring 2023) to find out more about your SPIRIT TYPE and the album’s story here: z2comics.com/nothingmore.

NOTHING MORE will bring their mesmerizing live performance—including their crowd favorite “Scorpion Tail” (a 400-pound, 14-foot MIDI controller constructed out of salvaged metal scraps by bassist Daniel Oliver that allows Hawkins to control the music while delivering his theatrical stage presence)—to audiences across the U.S. later this month as they kick off a three-month tour in direct support of In This Moment from 8/26 to 10/23. During the run, NOTHING MORE will branch off for a handful of headlining shows with support from British rockers Sleep Token and rock & roll burlesque dance troupe Cherry Bombs, in addition to dropping in at a few of rock’s biggest festivals, including Louder Than LifeRocklahoma, Aftershock and Blue Ridge Rock Festival.Tickets are on sale now as well as VIP upgrades athttps://nothingmore.net.

HEILUNG Shares Mood Video for New Song, “Tenet”

Enigmatic ritual music collective HEILUNG will be releasing its highly-anticipated third full-length, ‘Drif,’ on August 19, 2022 via Season of Mist! The band has recently revealed the third single from the offering, “Tenet,” which can be found along with a mood video at THIS LOCATION.

The band explains, “HEILUNG comment on the track: “Our third single release is a palindrome. All individual musical parts, melodies and instruments (and even at times the lyrics) play the same both forward and backwards. The song is based on the “Sator Square”, the earliest datable two-dimensional palindrome, first found in Herculaneum (Italy), a city buried under the ashes of the erupting Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, at that time part of the flourishing Roman Empire. What is particularly interesting with this palindrome is that not only does it read forwards and backwards but also vertically in both directions.

A R E P O
T E N E T

“The unusual melody of the piece is created with a special code system employing numbers, runes and Latin letters taken from the square itself, and deciphered in a complicated system to give birth to Heilung’s first melodic palindrome. Love from Heilung”
