ALTER BRIDGE Release Epic Track “Sin After Sin”

As the band’s current single, “Silver Tongue,” moves up the Active Rock radio charts and its music video crossed a million plays in less than a month, acclaimed rockers ALTER BRIDGE are back with another track from their upcoming seventh studio album, Pawns & Kings – scheduled for worldwide release on October 14 via Napalm Records. “Sin After Sin” is the latest epic track released by the quartet comprised of Myles Kennedy on vocals/guitars, Mark Tremonti on guitars/vocals, Brian Marshall on bass and Scott Phillips on drums. The song clocks in at 6:43 and is the second longest song on the new album. The lyric video was created by ALTER BRIDGE visual collaborator Wayne Joyner and can be seen below.

From the opening riffs of “This Is War” to the title track album closer “Pawns & Kings,” ALTER BRIDGE returns with an album of intense tracks that were born after the cycle for their last album was cut short by the global pandemic. Songs like “Dead Among The Living,” “Holiday”  and “Last Man Standing” showcase the signature songwriting the band is known for. The album offers numerous epic adventures, with three songs clocking in over six minutes each. The opus “Fable Of The Silent Son” clocks in at 8:29 and is the longest recorded song in the band’s catalog – a distinction held by “Blackbird” until now. Mark Tremonti steps out of his backing vocal role to take the lead on “Stay,” an introspective ballad that is sure to become a fan favorite live. The band released a lyric video for the title track that can be seen here: https://youtu.be/aTqN0nh7Avk

Known for its signature dual-guitar attack backed by a driving rhythm section, the album’s fast-rising chart-climber “Silver Tongue” is one of the harder songs in the band’s recent catalog. Its animated music video was created and directed by Ollie Jones of Better Feeling Films (Myles Kennedy, Prodigy, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets) and can be seen here: https://youtu.be/snl8OANQ948.

Pawns & Kings found ALTER BRIDGE reuniting with longtime collaborator and producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette to create a collection of memorable new additions to the band’s impressive catalog.

Anti-Flag Share “IMPERIALISM” Video Feat. Ashrita Kumar of Pinkshift

Incendiary Pittsburgh punk rockers ANTI-FLAG will release their 13th album Lies They Tell Our Children on January 6 via Spinefarm. Pre-order it here.

For this record, the band recruited several high profile and like-minded artists to feature on the songs. Ashrita Kumar of Pinkshift appears on “IMPERIALISM.” Listen here

“Justin Sane’s father Martin Geever grew up in post-colonial Southern Ireland. When he talks about the British occupation of his homeland and its lingering negative consequences, a phrase that often repeats is: ‘Humans are just out of the cave.’

A quick glance at imperialism the world over makes it hard to argue with this assertion, especially when one takes into account the brutality that accompanies imperialism and the ravages it leaves in its wake. Not to mention the frequency with which powerful elites justify subjugating and stealing from other people to grow their power and wealth.

This song documents the false narrative often put forward by those who wish to validate their imperialist ambitions. Special attention is given to the fact that occupiers play by a set of rules that they create, ignoring or moving the goalposts in terms of international law and human rights, including torture and murder. Special effort was also made to point out that occupiers have no interest in the needs or opinions of the occupied.

You can’t smash a city with bombs, kill and terrorize its population and burn it to the ground in order to save it. But those are the tactics and explanations of those with imperial ambitions. Actions speak louder than words, especially when there is a trail of bodies left in the wake of an occupier claiming that the violence they have perpetrated was carried out on the basis of high moral grounds.

Musically, there was something important to us about making sure the future of empathetic and benevolent punk rock was involved. One of our favorite new bands Pinkshift are that future. Ashrita had the perfect voice and energy for this song and its intention and we’re grateful for her talent and friendship. The accompanying video created by INDECLINE stands as a document of the extremely violent, destructive and terror-filled nature of war and occupation, regardless of where it takes place.”

Lies They Tell Our Children was recorded, produced, and mixed by Jon Lundin

Pixies Release New Single “Dregs Of The Wine” From Upcoming “Doggerel”

Most bands who have a storied and influential history spanning some 30+ years completely lose their capacity for surprise, but most bands aren’t Pixies. Their upcoming album Doggerel introduces bold new orchestrated, cinematic flourishes to their sound without losing sight of the visceral, high-tension alt-rock they’re renowned for.  Pixies further preview the album by sharing the new track “Dregs Of The Wine,” which also offers something new – a first writing credit for guitarist Joey Santiago.

Given Black Francis’ prolific songwriting, Joey’s contributions would usually be to build his distinctive style into his bandmate’s songs. But this time around it was the reverse approach, with Joey’s instrumental – a mix of explosive power chords that recall Pete Townshend and a pummelling punk attack – completed by Black’s decadent, surrealist lyrics, which reference Van Halen and Black Foxx while drinking under the iconic Hollywood sign.

Black says the song is about “Living in Los Angeles in the ‘90s with my then-wife, hanging out with Joey and his ex-wife, lots of trips to Las Vegas, a lot of drinking, little bit drug taking, some genuine good times.”

Flash forward to the present day.  Joey was jamming at home on his guitar, and the initial idea behind the song may well have been lost to the moment. He recalls, “I guess I was in kind of a zombie state, just playing. After I stopped playing, I put it down and went, ‘Well, that was a fucking waste of time, what a piece of shit I am.’ I beat myself up a lot, but my girlfriend, unbeknownst to me, was recording me.  She played it back to me, and I go, ‘Fuck! Hold on a second here! This stuff is good!’”

“Dregs Of The Wine” emerges after Pixies have spent the summer headlining large outdoor shows in the UK and Europe, hitting Hyde Park as special guests to Pearl Jam, and playing a tiny Manchester show at Band On the Wall. Their legendary status has been heightened by the recent Doggerel singles “There’s A Moon On” and “Vault of Heaven,” leading to an A-list and a Steve Lamacq premiere at BBC’s 6 Music, as well as coverage stretching from NME to The UK Guardian to Spin.

Doggerel is available to pre-order HERE.  The band’s official store offers a range of limited-edition music and merch and as well as two exclusive Doggerel formats:  an orange vinyl and a red cassette.

Having just headlined the End of the Road FestivalPixies’ remaining 2022 live shows include shows in South AmericaJapanAustralia, and New Zealand, as well as a special, October four-date run of North American intimate-venue concerts.  As is the Pixies’ standard, the band will draw from their extensive catalogue to perform a different set every night, with each song determined just before its first note is played. Attendees can expect the band to perform not only some of the most beloved Pixies songs, but also, for the first time in America, new tracks  from Doggerel. Dates are below, and tickets can be purchased HERE.

Boston Manor Share New Track “Inertia”

Boston Manor have released another song from their forthcoming album Datura.

Says vocalist Henry Cox of the meaning behind the track, “‘Inertia’ is a love song I wrote for my wife, the support of whom has guided me through some of the darkest times in my adult life. The partners of touring artists are often forgotten about. They have to spend months alone without the person they love whilst we fly around the world with our friends. They comfort us when we’re home sick, cheer us one when we win, and console us when we lose. Often they can be a lifeline to our friends and family, a bridge back to the real world. To me, my wife is many things, home being one of them. This record is about a darkness in my life and the end of the album marks the exit from it. Without her, that never would have been possible.”

Datura will be released October 14 via SharpTone Records and features the previously released “Passenger,” which delves into the record’s nighttime aesthetic with the kind of intense and unrestrained burst of an anthemic chorus for which the band have become known in recent years. The darkness, literally and metaphorically, is also exemplified with “Foxglove,” the album’s crunching, catchy first single, released back in April.

This is an album that pushes the limits and stretches the boundaries of Boston Manor more than ever before, musically, lyrically, thematically, and conceptually. 2018’s Welcome To The Neighbourhood and 2020’s GLUE shifted the needle in terms of Boston Manor’s sound, incorporating synths into their framework and a heavy focus on atmosphere. Coming off the back of last year’s Desperate Times, Desperate Pleasures EP, Datura takes all that one step further. The first of two parts, this set of songs exists in the dim light between dusk and dawn. It’s a record you don’t just merely listen to, but one — from the moment the sinister opening strains of first song “Datura (dusk)” begin — you actually inhabit and experience. It’s a record that envelops you, drags you into the dark shadows, leaves you cold, breathless, and paranoid. The mood you’ve just been submerged in is inspired by Cox drinking too much during the height of the pandemic and the dark nights and darker mornings that followed.

DATURA TRACK LISTING:
“Datura (dusk)
“Floodlights On The Square”
Foxglove
Passenger
“Crocus”
“Shelter From The Rain”

In the annals of 21st century alternative rock history, there are few artists who cast a longer or more peculiar shadow than Finnish Love Metal pioneer Ville Valo. After all, his band HIM was easily among the most iconic and idiosyncratic groups of the millennium.

Zealously revered, gleefully reviled but impossible to ignore, their music left an indelible mark on a worldwide legion of fans. The scarlet letters stood for “His Infernal Majesty.” Their founder stood for something delightedly out of step with the status quo.

“We only hoped to temporarily redirect hard rock’s blood flow from the nether regions towards the heart,” reminisces Valo, the singer, songwriter, and primus motor of HIM. Judging by the monolithic presence of the Heartagram in any account of music this side of the millennium, it’s apparent that he succeeded.

Inspired by everyone from Poe to Bukowski and tinged by a penchant for perfumed Sabbathian gloom, Valo‘s creative lovechild would produce eight era-defining studio releases and over 10 million record sales, including a Grammy nomination, countless magazine covers, critical acclaim, and the veneration of a generation. Thus, it came as no surprise that the news of a farewell tour in 2017 was greeted with shock and disbelief among devotees and caused endless speculation as to what or who was to take up the velvet mantle.

“As fun as the funeral rites for HIM were, it took me more than a few moons to lick my wounds in the shadow of the Heartagram and come up with an excuse to strum and hum again. Eventually, I decided to put a leash on my beloved black dog and we started howling together instead of barking at each other. That’s how “Loveletting” was born.”

Loveletting“, the first single off VV‘s debut album ‘Neon Noir, out in early 2023, suggests this new infernal mix of light and shade is nothing short of a landmark release from one of modern music’s most distinctive and intriguing voices. It belongs to the same forlorn world of woe and whimsy once conceived and governed by Valo in HIM, but with the nuanced notes of a fine aged Cabernet.

“Artistically speaking, the main difference between HIM and VV is the extra line in the Heartagram, but what an exquisite line it is! It’s the Mamas and the Papas dressed up as Metallica on their way to a Halloween bash at the Studio 54, and now who wouldn’t want to witness that?”

Fire From The Gods Announce New Album “Soul Revolution” Out 10/28

Today, Fire From The Gods announced that they would be releasing their new album, Soul Revolution, on October 28 via Better Noise Music. The Austin-based rock band also released a new track “Thousand Lifetimes” and an accompanying video. The band is excited to share brand new material with fans, as they have created a body of work that masterfully blends themes of inspiration and aggression with soul searching. Pre-order the album HERE and watch “Thousand Lifetimes” HERE.

Touching on the meaning of “Thousand Lifetimes,” AJ Channer said, “I came from a broken home and society has a way of turning its back on people like me. I watched my mum along with some very strong women in my life sacrifice everything to keep their families above water. That strength helped build me into the man I am today. The video also serves as a homage to those mothers who have lost their children to the harsh realities of our world. I wanted to honor them and the thousands like them because a mother’s love is a force to be reckoned with. This goes out to those warriors in our lives.”

Soul Revolution was produced, engineered and mixed by Erik Ron (Godsmack, Motionless In White, Panic! At The Disco). The band is teasing their new music on tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Megadeth, and The HU now through the fall – see below for a full list of dates. For tickets and additional information, visit https://www.firefromthegods.com/.

As artists, Fire From The Gods are fueled by something larger than themselves, having adopted the tagline “In Us We Trust,” which means “we the people” are responsible for change. It is their unifying statement, which listeners will hear reflected in Soul Revolution, that aims to prevent society from succumbing to the growing malaise brought on by soul-sucking technology, divisive politics and environmental destruction.

Fire From The Gods is currently on the road, opening up for Five Finger Death Punch, Megadeth, and The HU later this summer. Tonight they will be in Phoenix, and will be playing in Houston, Charlotte, Milwaukee and other cities before the tour closes out in Salt Lake City on October 15. See below for a full list of dates and purchase tickets HERE.

The band’s last album American Sun was met with positive reviews after its release in 2019. Soon after, the band dropped American Sun (Reimagined). The LP served as a reflective statement from the band, who typically calls for unity in their music, drawing inspiration to take a new approach to their art from current events.

Eva Under Fire Announce Release Date for “Love, Drugs & Misery”

Detroit-based rock band Eva Under Fire officially announced the new release date for their long-awaited debut album Love, Drugs & Misery today. The album, recorded via Better Noise Music, will be available for streaming and download on September 23. Most recently, the band released “Blow (ft. Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills),” which is featured in The Retaliators soundtrack and now boasts over 7.6M streams across the globe, as a digital single and as an acoustic version earlier this summer. Ahead of this announcement, the band also dropped their collaboration with Jonathan Dörr of Ego Kill Talent “Comatose,” “Unstoppable,” and the Sno Babies soundtrack single “Heroin(e).” Each song has offered fans a diverse taste of what’s to come on the album. Pre-order Love, Drugs & Misery HERE.

Thrilled to be sharing the news, lead singer Eva Marie said, “We’re super excited to finally be releasing our album Love, Drugs & Misery. We can’t wait to show you guys the full scope of what we’ve been working on for so long. It was kind of a wild ride because when we’d completed the record, we were super proud of it, it was some of our best writing to date, and then the world shut down. It’s been long-awaited, much-anticipated, and there’s so much heart and soul in this record. I can’t wait for you guys to experience it with us.”

The official music video for “Blow” gives fans a sneak peek of the band’s frontwoman Eva Marie’s onscreen acting debut in a pivotal scene of The Retaliators. The film is premiering in theaters across North America on September 14. Eva Marie and Charnas both appear in the film, alongside some of the biggest names in rock: Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee, Five Finger Death Punch, Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, All Good Things, Cory Marks. Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx co-wrote and recorded the title song of the film.

The band joined NOTHING MORE, Asking Alexandria and Atreyu on their North America tour, earning media attention from Top Shelf Music Magazine, who praised, “Eva Under Fire was up first and this female-fronted Detroit metal group absolutely crushed it. They came out firing on all cylinders and had everyone jumping up and down from the get-go.” Fans can watch the band play at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento on October 9.  For more information and to purchase tickets, visit: https://www.evaunderfire.com/.

Eva Marie is a therapist by day and rock star by night. This past May, she wrote columns for Loudwire in observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, drawing on her personal and clinical experiences. If you think rock n’ roll fairy tales are a thing of the past, you haven’t met Eva Under Fire. These Detroit rock upstarts got their start five years ago and instantly began cutting their teeth in the underground rock scene, building an enthusiastic fan base the old-fashioned way. However the band’s trajectory shifted toward the stratosphere when they sent an unsolicited demo to Better Noise Music, who recognized the band’s hybrid of rock, metal, pop and classic rock as something wholly unique.

That said, it took a lot of hard work for them to get to this point. The group’s roots go back to 2015 when Eva, guitarists Chris Slapnik and Rob Lyberg, bassist Ed Joseph and drummer Corey Newsom, decided to get together and write music that represented their diverse set of influences. The chemistry clicked and after releasing a well received full-length and two EPs, the band signed to Better Noise and spent the past two years working on their next album, their most ambitious and fully realized release to date.
