Lorna Shore Releases “Pain Remains II: After All I’ve Done, I’ll Disappear”

Lorna Shore

Today marks the next chapter in the epic journey of Lorna Shore, leading up to the release of new album, Pain Remains (due to be unleashed October 14th via Century Media Records): “Pain Remains II: After All I’ve Done, I’ll Disappear”. Currently streaming on all digital platforms, the age-gated video (directed by David Brodsky // http://www.mgenyc.com) can be viewed here:

The band comments on “The Pain Trilogy”: “‘The Pain Trilogy’ is a three-part tale focusing on the stages of grief and vulnerability and exemplifying it through a love story. The first song, ‘Pain Remains I: Dancing like Flames’ begins with the main character becoming enamored by the person within his dreams. He decides to turn to this reality as a sense of purpose despite knowing that the closer he gets to his goal, the further it seems to drift away. This leads to the second song, ‘Pain Remains II: After All I’ve Done, I’ll Disappear’. This is the part where the person vanishes and the main character struggles to accept the pain. He as well wishes to disappear and seeks to throw it all away.

Lorna Shore supports suicide prevention and support. We encourage all to speak to their issues and spark conversations that help and mend us all.

For Lorna Shore, 2020 was nothing short of a reckoning – in a career built on challenges, changes and a single-minded vision. For the New Jersey quintet, 2020 signaled the pandemic and cancelled tours. The following year presented the band with a staggering creative challenge in the form of the song, “To The Hellfire” (currently at 11M+ views on YouTube, 22M+ streams on Spotify), from their hugely well-regarded EP …And I Return to Nothingness. Yet, through it all, they upped their sonic ante with their upcoming album, Pain Remains, that not only aligns with everything Lorna Shore has hinted at, but it also exceeds that – brutally and magnificently. “I’m a firm believer in the butterfly effect,” says guitarist Adam De Micco. “While you can try and boil it down to one song or one moment in a song, that’s just one moment in a career with a lot leading up to that.”

“‘Hellfire’ was a big, viral moment for the band, but we are way more than just a viral 30-second breakdown band,” adds drummer Austin Archey.

Clocking in at just over an hour, Pain Remains is as far-reaching in scope as any modern extreme metal album. It thinks big, pushing beyond preconception or musical boundaries.

Palaye Royale Unleashes a Fever Dream in NYC

Palaye Royale returned to New York City this past Sunday evening with the aptly named Fever Dream Tour, accompanied by Atlanta-based glam punk rockers Starbenders and singer/songwriter Mod Sun.

Strutting across the stage at the historic Webster Hall, Starbenders kicked off the night promptly at 7:30pm. Blending the best parts of 70’s retro-glitter with 80’s theatrical glam, Starbenders delivered a dizzying performance to an equally enthusiastic crowd. Coming off like a darker counterpart of Jem and the Holograms, lead singer/guitarist Kimi Shelter commanded attention with an impressive range of sultry vocals and undeniable presence. Definitely a band to keep an eye (and ear) on.

Despite introducing himself to the crowd, Mod Sun didn’t really need much of an introduction. The singer/songwriter bolted onto the stage with unmatched energy that was both dizzying and invigorating. Performing a string of hits from 2021’s Internet Killed the Rockstar, Mod Sun demanded audience participation and easily got it: from flawless sing-a-longs to the by now infamous bounce of Webster Hall’s floor, his set definitely got the audience riled up for the main event of the night.

Kicking off with “Nightmares” off 2020’s The Bastards, Palaye Royale hit the stage like a frenzied hurricane in all the best ways. Flanked by lead guitarist Sebastian Danzig, drummer Emerson Barrett and two touring musicians, Remington Leith – who admitted to having woken up with “a bit of strep” – delivered palpable joy in each of his raspy vocals. With fans heartily belting the band’s lyrics back at them, the energy did not once dip below 110%.

The set felt short, but I think that was only because each song was an absolute banger, and Palaye Royale did not allow for a much of a lull. Playing a majority of newer tracks, the set felt fresh and exciting. Obvious standout favorites were “Fucking With My Head,” “Dying in a Hot Tub,” “Get Higher” and the title track for upcoming album “Fever Dream.” Now this is an absolute treasure of a song with a driving drum roll and soaring chorus reminiscent of beloved Black Parade hits that makes it impossible to not sing along. It’s really no secret that Palaye Royale happily share a cross over audience with My Chemical Romance – up until a few years ago, the band even covered “Teenagers” on most of their live shows. But while the influences and similarities are there, that’s where the comparison stops. Palaye Royale thrives in its theatrical performances, but they are very much their own entity through and through.

By now it’s pretty much a given that a band’s exit from the stage is not a true goodbye, but while waiting for the encore, the crowd was absolutely deafening in its request for Palaye Royale’s latest single “Lifeless Stars.” And… they got their wish. “Well goddamn,” uttered Leith upon his return to the stage. “We weren’t gonna play this one, but if that’s what you guys want.” New York City definitely got an extra treat Sunday night with not one but two songs for its encore which wrapped up with “Lonely.”

I must say, having first literally stumbled across Palaye Royale during a performance of “Teenagers” at NJ’s Warped Tour 2016, I’m so incredibly proud of how far they’ve come. From various opening slots to headlining local dives, they’ve definitely one of my personal must photograph bands because their live show is no joke. With a new album, Fever Dream coming out October 28th on Sumerian Records, I really can’t wait to see what the next chapter will be for Palaye Royale.

In the meantime – the Fever Dream Tour continues to weave across North America (tour dates at the bottom of the post), and you should definitely grab yourself a ticket.

L.S. Dunes Share “2022” Music Video

L.S. Dunes — guitarist Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance), guitarist Travis Stever (Coheed & Cambria), vocalist Anthony Green (Circa Survive), bassist Tim Payne (Thursday), and drummer Tucker Rule (Thursday) — have shared “2022,” the blistering and dramatic new track off their upcoming debut album, PAST LIVES, due November 11 via Fantasy Records.

Watch the track’s psycho-animated video here. Pre-order Past Lives here.

“I wrote 2022 when I was struggling to communicate the pain that I was in during the pandemic,” says Green. “I survived an overdose the previous year and was feeling like I would never be free of the obsession to get high, or just get out of my own skin and that I was only going to continue to hurt everyone I loved. It was a cop-out and easier for me to write a song rather than get honest and real with the people in my life – cry for help in a way. If there’s a positive take away, it’s that it’s never a burden to the people you love to share your feelings no matter how dark or painful it might be.”

“2022” follows the late August release of the band’s first single “Permanent Rebellion,” which drew praise from Stereogum, NME, Consequence, Ones to Watch, Brooklyn Vegan, Revolver, Alternative Press, and Loudwire, among many others.

LS. Dunes made their highly anticipated debut performance this past weekend at Chicago’s RIOT FEST. Playing to a packed, early afternoon crowd, the band ran through several songs from the new album, a taste of the energetic, cathartic shows fans will experience on their upcoming tour.

The impetus for the trippy “2022” video has its own story. At the conclusion of the video shoot for “Permanent Rebellion,” Iero, jet-lagged from a sold-out stadium show in Germany the night before with his other band, noticed that the shadow reflections playing on the white walls of the studio made the band look like a “hippy band that rips” and the concept for “2022” visual was born. The band shot footage with the esteemed My Good Eye Visuals (Clutch, GWAR, Killswitch Engage) and then sent it to director Robby Staebler (drummer extraordinaire for the mighty All Them Witches) with one piece of direction only: We want it to feel like “the song that saved your life, while you are on LSD… in the desert.”

After the band’s next show at Sacramento’s AFTERSHOCK FESTIVAL on October 8 L.S. Dunes will hit the road for a U.S. tour this November — all dates are below.

PAST LIVES TRACK LISTING:
2022
“Antibodies”
“Grey Veins”
“Like Forever”
“Blender”
“Past Lives”
“It Takes Time”
“Bombsquad”
“Grifter”
Permanent Rebellion
“Sleep Cult”

L.S. DUNES super-charge their heavy anthems with punk energy into a sound unlike anything that has come before it. From the gripping, theatrical opener “2022,” and the crunchy, frenetic earworm “Like Forever,” to the pummeling, expansive “Permanent Rebellion,” and the disarming album closer, “Sleep Cult,” Past Lives is an electrifying and emotional ride.

Past Lives was produced by Will Yip (Turnstile, Circa Survive, Quicksand) and recorded at his Studio 4 Recording in Philadelphia, PA. Going deep on issues of fearlessness, dependency, nonconformity, and impermanence, writing for the album was a collaborative effort.

After the shock of the pandemic shutdown, the close friends and mutual admirers urgently realized that “tomorrow” is not promised. “We never knew if we would ever get to play these songs together; in fact none of us lifelong musicians really knew if we’d ever be able to play music for a live audience ever again,” Iero recounts. “‘Permanent Rebellion’ is about taking back what is rightfully yours.”

Rule adds, “We wanted to do something where you can hear all our bands in it and yet, not have it sound like any one in particular. Our roots are punk rock and hardcore, and the vibe is hope for all the lost souls.

Original, aggressive, and intense, L.S. DUNES is the next great leap in rock’s grand evolution.

AWOLNATION Premieres a New Video for “Freaking Me Out”

Today, AWOLNATION dropped their new track “Freaking Me Out” via Better Noise Music, along with an official music video. Known for their ability to write hauntingly stark rock anthems like their world famous hits “Run” and “Sail,” AWOLNATION returns with new original music, after the release of their covers and collaborations album My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers and Me earlier this year. That project included collaborations with BeckJewelPortugal. The ManRise AgainstTaylor Hanson, and Brandon Boyd of Incubus, among others. The band is set to start their “Falling Forward” North America headline tour featuring special guests Badflower and The Mysterines on October 6. Tickets are on-sale now. Aaron Bruno shared his inspiration behind the song: “I had a sense of a hopeful paranoia of sorts in creating this song, plus you can disco dance to it, or bang your head. Or both. It’s up to you.”

The cinematic music video for “Freaking Me Out” introduces a world that feels both futuristic and bygone. Like a memory of a time that is still to come.  The video, entirely in black and white and drawing inspiration from classic film and paranoid fiction, complements the song’s high-strung energy and infectious melody. Directed by Eliot Charof, the music video is the first in a series of three interlocking new videos from the band that explore a looming overly digitized future.

Avatar Share New Song “Valley of Disease”

The heavy metal ‘n’ roll, dark, madcap visionaries collectively known as AVATAR — vocalist Johannes Eckerström (vocals), guitarists Jonas Jarlsby and Tim Öhrström, bassist Henrik Sandelin, and drummer John Alfredsson — have emerged from deep within the Swedish forest in which they have been working on their ninth album to grace fans and listeners with a brand new song.

Listen to and watch the lyric video for “Valley of Disease” here

“There is a sickness, a stranger, and a harmful way,” says Eckerström. “A twisted landscape untouched by the sun. I leave the rest up to either you or me, but never both at the same time. You can only enter this place alone, and my path isn’t yours. Your secret is safe with me, but so is mine.”

Avatar enjoyed quite a productive summer, traipsing North America on a successful headline tour. They next embarked on some of the biggest shows of the career — a trek with Iron Maiden, supporting the band in stadiums in Brazil. Avatar also played arenas supporting Sabaton. They secured slots at major festivals globally — Inkcarceration, Cadott Fest, Summer Breeze, and Bloodstock along the way.

Avatar add Veil of Maya in the UK and Europe this February and March 2023 on the Dance Devil Dance Tour. All dates are in the graphic below. More U.S. touring will be announced in due time.

As for Avatar’s mission?

There are no weapons on this planet that can challenge might of the electric guitar. For decades, metal has been the most powerful force known to man. Its sonic teeth have gnawed through the status quo over and over, pushing the boundaries for what can be created in the marriage between blood and machine. If a Mount Rushmore were to be carved for all the titans of the genre, it would span the entire globe many times over. It’s a burning beacon, the misfits, and rebels.

As time has passed, much of the scene has become divided in two equally stale camps. The first is forever stuck in the past, no longer seeking to lead. The second are those who have forgotten the most important ingredients to what made metal what it was and must remain. They’ve lost touch with the devil. They’ve forgotten how to move. In a genre best experienced with your whole body, they’ve lost the lust.

Avatar, however, have NOT lost anything.

It is with this fire in their bellies that they continue to craft their next album.

Last fall, Avatar, who are known to smash the boundaries between band, theater troupe, and cinematic masterminds with a series of celebrated albums and videos, and the immersive world of Avatar Country, a fantastical land where metal rules supreme, released four new songs. Avatar also previously announced they signed to Thirty Tigers and have launched their own Black Waltz Records imprint.

The Pretty Reckless Share Acoustic Rendering of “Harley Darling”

THE PRETTY RECKLESS — Taylor Momsen [vocals, guitar], Ben Phillips [guitar, keys, piano], Mark Damon [bass], and Jamie Perkins [drums] — will release Other Worlds, a new collection of material, on November 4 via Fearless Records. Pre-order it here.

Today, the band has shared the visualizer for the absolutely stunning acoustic version of “Harley Darling.” Watch + listen here.

The Pretty Reckless dressed down this favorite from Death By Rock And Roll to its bare essence with a stirring and striking acoustic performance.

“‘Harley Darling’ is a love letter to Kato Khandwala,” says Momsen. “It’s as simple as that. So many of us have stories of losing loved ones, especially now, and I hope this song can be used in other’s healing as it was in my own.”

The band previously shared the video for “Got So High.” Watch it here. You can also listen to and watch the visualizer for the remix of the song here

Since 2008, The Pretty Reckless have given rock ‘n’ roll the jumpstart it needed for a new generation. 2021’s Death By Rock and Roll elevated them to rarified air. With its impact, the four-piece carved out a place in history as the first female-fronted band to have back-to-back No. 1 singles at the active rock format and the first female-fronted act to have seven No. 1 singles on the Billboard Rock Radio Chart. Beyond acclaim from V Magazine, The TODAY Show, PEOPLE, Spin, ELLE, American Songwriter, Bustle, ABC News Nightline, The Daily Beast, and more, it bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart. It also notably boasted collaborations with legends such as Soundgarden’s Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil on “Only Love Can Save Me Now” and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello on “And So It Went.”

Through and through, The Pretty Reckless didn’t simply throw the rulebook out the window; they set the fucker on fire on the way down. Introducing a bold vision unlike anything else this era had seen, Momsen’s bluesy seductive howl collided with revved-up and raucous rhythms, sweetly stoned melodies, and enough unpredictability in the studio and onstage to bring the danger back to rock ‘n’ roll. By sticking to their guns, the musicians reaped the rewards of such uncompromising fearlessness.

This boundlessness drives Other Worlds, where they deliver their first proper acoustic recordings, unexpected covers, and other reimaginings, covering new territory once more.

“For a long time, we’ve been trying to figure out an alternative way of releasing music, including songs we love that didn’t make our records, covers, and alternate versions,” explains Momsen. “We found a way to do this coherently and consistently with Other Worlds. We’re a rock band, so there are lots of electric guitars on our records. However, we’ve gotten incredible feedback from fans about our acoustic performances, and we’d never put those out in any real format. So, this is a different take on the traditional format of a record and a stripped back version of us that our fans haven’t really heard before, but it’s still us.”

“You get to hear a different side of Taylor’s vocals,” adds Phillips. “It was a chance for us to see what she would sound like singing songs by people who have inspired us. It also gave us some perspective of where we need to go and what we need to be if we want to be that good.”

The record collates striking acoustic renditions of personal favorites accompanied by some very special guests. The recording of Elvis Costello’s “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding” served as Momsen’s first cover originally performed for the Fearless at Home livestream in the midst of COVID. As another pandemic-era cover, Matt Cameron played guitar and sang as Taylor powered an airy and lithe reimagining of Soundgarden’s “Halfway There” from King Animal, generating hundreds of thousands of views on its initial post. Iconic multi-instrumentalist, producer, and artist Alain Johannes handled guitar on The Pretty Reckless’ pensive and poetic interpretation of “The Keeper,” originally by Chris Cornell, while David Bowie pianist Mike Garson performed a stirring piano movement for The Thin White Duke’s “Quicksand.”

Puscifer Usher in Halloween Weekend with Two Streaming Events

Puscifer, whose October 2020 concert film, “Existential Reckoning: Live At Arcosanti” broke online attendance records and fully explored what the at-home concert experience could be, celebrate the Halloween weekend with the release of two concert-meets-feature films: “V is for Versatile: A Puscifer Concert Film featuring music from the V is for… era” and “Parole Violator: A Puscifer Concert Film featuring Conditions of My Parole.” Watch the trailer here.

Meeting at the intersection of music and theater, Puscifer is known for their thematic, multimedia-laced tours. From a “Hee Haw”-style jamboree to a televangelist revival, from sitting ringside at a Lucha Libre match to the advent of Agent Dick Merkin and the Pusciforce, Puscifer’s transition from live performances to film is a natural extension of the music-meets-acting troupe. The pandemic-induced dawn of the at-home concert experience provided Maynard James Keenan, Mat Mitchell and Carina Round with the tools to turn to film, having now released two movies to date: 2020’s “Existential Reckoning: Live at Arcosanti” and 2021’s “Billy D and The Hall of Feathered Serpents featuring Money $hot by Puscifer.”

“Those with creative minds are restless. Lockdown was only physical, not mental,” offers Keenan. “The Pandemic was the perfect springboard and opportunity for us all to flex our creative muscles. Here is more evidence.”

Hildy Berger adds: “When life gives you lemons, don’t stop at making lemonade. Plant summa them lemons, grow some goddamn lemon trees, and change your pissy world view. Hell! Make some dang Limoncello!”

“V is for Versatile: A Puscifer Concert Film featuring music from the V is for… era”

Puscifer take you into the famed studios of Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound, where everyone from Led Zeppelin to Van Halen to Elton John and Tom Waits recorded classic albums. In this live performance piece, the band invites fans behind-the-scenes as they re-interpret and re-record songs from their V is for… era. Agent Dick Merkin, Major Douche, the briefcase and a few surprise cameos are interspersed amongst the studio footage.

“Parole Violator: A Puscifer Concert Film featuring Conditions of My Parole”

Billy D is in jail, Hildy is on the war path and Peter Merkin, as usual, is up to no good. The saga of the Bergers continues as Puscifer pairs the duo’s ongoing melodrama with a live, track-by-track re-imagination of the band’s critically-acclaimed 2011 album, Conditions of My Parole. Visually, “Parole Violator” is evocative of Keenan’s North Arizona homestead, with Puscifer’s performance married to striking visuals, dramatic lighting, and in a nod to the band’s 2011/2012 tour in support of the collection, closes with a campfire sing-a-long.

The films, which premiere on Oct. 28 at 12:00 pm pacific/3:00 pm eastern/8:00 pm UK/9:00 pm EU, remain on-demand for 72 hours. Tickets as well as a selection of limited edition merchandise, exclusive to attendees, are available now via puscifertv.com. Early bird tickets are on-sale through Oct. 21.

Both “V is for Versatile” and “Parole Violator” have album companions, available on vinyl, CD and streaming on Nov. 11. Pre-orders are also available now via puscifertv.com.

Thrice Release New Track “Open Your Eyes and Dream”

California rock band Thrice have shared their newest single “Open Your Eyes and Dream,” out now via Epitaph Records. With a heavy bassline and scorching vocals, the new track carries Thrice’s unique brand of self-awareness that keeps listeners coming back for me. Fans can stream “Open Your Eyes and Dream” now. Watch the music video below:

On the new single, vocalist Dustin Kensrue shares, “It’s so very easy to believe that big systemic issues can’t change because we’ve lived with them our whole lives. But if you look back and zoom out a bit it’s easy to see that this feeling of permeance and inevitability is just an illusion. Most things seem impossible until they happen. This song is about opening our eyes to that reality, and being willing to dream something better into existence.”

“Open Your Eyes and Dream” follows Thrice’s acclaimed album Horizons/East, released in September 2021 via Epitaph RecordsThe album conveys a palpable sense of danger, determination, and possibility and exemplifies art as a work of recognition — the human task of perceiving oneself amid details, disasters, and blessings as a relentlessly relational phenomenon among others. In this, Horizons/East is the rare rock album on which interrelatedness is a theme, painting an adventurous and lush landscape mixed by Scott Evans that the band self-produced and recorded at their own New Grass Studio.

With Horizons/EastDustin Kensrue and his bandmates address, with candor and courage, the fragile and awkward arrangements that pass for civilization, while inviting us to dwell more knowingly within our own lives. Without surrendering any of the energy and hard edge of their previous albums, they’ve given us a profoundly meditative work which serves as a musical summons to everyday attentiveness.

Since forming Thrice with guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge, and drummer Riley Breckenridge in 1998, Kensrue has never been one to back down from a mental fight. Horizons/Eastcommunicates comfort with uncertainty, it’s uncertainty as the beginning of wonder. Not knowing something for certain can occasion a blossom, an opportunity, as opposed to a dead end.

This uncertainty is something the band seems to embrace with their entire career, and especially in their approach to this record, building out their own studio and recording completely on their own, unsure of what exactly they could extract from themselves this time around. Thrice seems ever eager to step out into these spaces unknown to them, unsure of where their feet will land, and the most recent record is no exception.

Horizons/East is available now at https://thrice.ffm.to/horizonseast.

Formed in 1998, the Orange County-based four-piece is widely regarded as one of the most innovative rock bands of their generation. Featuring frontman Dustin Kensrue, guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge, and drummer Riley Breckenridge.

Thrice will be performing at select festivals throughout the United States this fall, as well as celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Illusion Of Safety with a small run of shows in December. Tickets and more information available at www.thrice.net.
