Red Hot Chili Peppers – Return Of The Dream Canteen | Album Review

Just a few months after Unlimited Love, the chilis return another album with songs from the same studio session as the previously mentioned 2022 release. You can tell that most of the original material went to the first album because Dream Canteen is a slog to get through. John Frusciante’s guitarwork is again welcome but doesn’t stand out nearly as much as hoped. And in 75 minutes of run time, they could have given a bit more to stand out. Only the singles really have any staying power and that’s being generous. It’s that old joke of “force a bot to listen to 1000 hours of Red Hot Chili Peppers”, and it’ll come up with this album. This was not unlimited love, this was…limited tolerance. And it’ll be forgotten as quickly as a dream. 5/10.

Alter Bridge – Pawns & Kings | Album Review

Not only is this an Alter Bridge album with some heavy, creative riffs (which is standard for the group), but it also features occasional role reversals. On several tracks, you’ll hear Myles Kennedy on lead guitar and Mark Tremonti on vocals. It works just fine as both men are versatile. Last Man Standing and the title track are phenomenal closers. The album knows how to go out with a bang. In many ways, this is exactly what Alter Bridge has been delivering for years. Long tracks, big solos, ballads, high notes, the band is still in its groove. This time, a band being in their groove is a good thing. Even if not mind-blowing, the good moments shine and the band is still laying down solid work. Good match from Alter Bridge. 7/10

Lorna Shore – Pain Remains | Album Review

This is deathcore in a full frontal assault with some of the most well-crafted instrument work and arrangements you can imagine. Lorna Shore may have had trouble with keeping previous singers but I also feel they found gold in Will Ramos. He is the shocking, horrifying vocalist, that will make Lorna Shore stand out. The haunting choir and orchestral segments paired with massive drum blasts and growling is a LOT to take in, but it’s also wildly impressive. Deathcore needed an album like Pain Remains to help show how the sub-genre can be more than trope-screaming. Pain Remains is going to be the worst thing ever for people who hate screaming and true guttural vocals. For deathcore fans, this is something special. 9/10.

Boston Manor Share “Crocus” Music Video

Boston Manor

Boston Manor’s universe of a record Datura is out October 14 via SharpTone Records, as the band embarks on a tour of the UK and Europe with Alexisonfire. A final advance taster of the album in the form of the video for “Crocus” has been shared. Watch it here.

“Crocus” is a track that starts out softly but builds with immense intention and energy, before fading away.

“‘Crocus’ is a song we’ve been trying to write for years — we always used to joke about writing a song that could be played in that club in The Matrix,” says singer Henry Cox. “I think this has been our best attempt, and we tried to mimic that in the video. We’re very proud of both the song and the video which was directed by our long time collaborator Zak Pinchin and choreographed by Kate Hannah and her team, who managed to put together the full routine in only 10 days. We’re going to be playing it live for the first time this week and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Boston Manor have also invited fans to get creative with their music ahead of the album drop by making the original stems for “Passenger” available for download on their Soundcloud page so that the track is open for remix. As they say: “Have fun with it. Comment on the Soundcloud post with a link to your remix, we’ll share our favourites. Music is for everyone.”

Datura is an album that pushes the limits and stretches the boundaries of Boston Manor more than ever before, musically, lyrically, thematically and conceptually. 2018’s Welcome To The Neighbourhood and 2020s GLUE shifted the needle in terms of Boston Manor’s sound, incorporating synths into their framework and a heavy focus on atmosphere. Coming off the back of last year’s Desperate Times, Desperate Pleasures EP, Datura takes all that one step further. The first of two parts, this set of songs exists in the dim light between dusk and dawn. It’s a record you don’t just merely listen to, but one – from the moment the sinister opening strains of first song “Datura (dusk)” begin – you actually inhabit and experience. It’s a record that envelops you, drags you into the dark shadows, leaves you cold, breathless, paranoid.

The smouldering, ominous title track bleeds into “Floodlights On The Square,” a song of despair that reaches anthemic proportions, but which also contains some widescreen, John Carpenter-esque flourishes. The darkness, literally and metaphorically, continues with both “Foxglove” — the album’s crunching, catchy first single, released back in April — and the intense and unrestrained burst of “Passenger,” a song that’s both hopeful and energetic but also on the verge of emotional collapse. “Crocus” fades into the eerie, rain-laced cyber-punk instrumental “Shelter From The Rain.” It might not be a traditional Boston Manor song, but it’s an essential component of this album, and one which takes heavy influence from the video game and movie soundtracks that the members of the band adore. It “illustrates how it’s like 4am at that point,” says vocalist Henry Cox. “It evokes loneliness and despair, but with a small sense of hope in it that things will get better — that the rain will stop and the sun will rise. It brings the listener in and makes them feel like the protagonist within the story. They’re part of what’s happening on the record and can fully immerse themselves into the world we’ve created. And that then takes you into “Inertia,” which kind of closes the record. That’s a love song, but it’s about hope for the future as well.”

It only “kind of closes” the record because there’s actually a hidden track after it, one which starts as a future-dystopian instrumental, but which then gives way unexpectedly to birdsong and the break of dawn. That snaps you immediately out of the bleak environment and mood you’ve just been submerged in, one inspired by Cox drinking too much during the height of the pandemic and the dark nights and darker mornings that followed.

“I want people to connect with the themes of this album,” he says. “Not so much in terms of it being so specific to me — although I hope they appreciate the vulnerability in it — but with the view that they can project their own life story onto it. At its core, this is an album about somebody struggling to get control of their life and pull themselves up. I think a lot of people can relate to that, especially in the times that we’re living in at the moment. So as much as I was writing about my problems, I hope people can find solace in it.”

TALLAH Drop New Track & Music Video “For The Recognition”

Tallah

Nu-Core quintet Tallah have released the latest chapter of their ongoing world-building saga that will become their sophomore album, The Generation Of Danger (out November 18th via Earache Records). The brand new single is titled “For The Recognition” and lands with a suitably frenetic accompanying music video. Find the new track on streaming platforms HERE and watch the official music video HERE or by clicking the image below. Pre-order The Generation Of Danger HERE.

Speaking on the release of their latest track, Tallah frontman, Justin Bonitz, adds

“For The Recognition is a song about justifying why you are doing what you are doing. Blind ambition can only get you so far. If you have a dream, and you want to follow it to the end, you have to push yourself, be confident, and not allow anything or anyone to stand in your way. This is your vision, your story, and you have to do whatever it takes to bring all that hidden power to the surface and use it as fuel to show everyone how amazing you really are. Be honest and be the best”

Tallah founder and drummer, Max Portnoy adds

“When I wrote this song, I made sure the ending pit hit really hard but was simple enough for us to trash our set up live. We took that mindset into the studio as well and smashed tons of lamps, microwaves, vases, etc and put those recordings in the song.”

Tallah‘s sophomore album, The Generation Of Danger, will be released on November 18th via Earache Records and much like their debut album, Matriphagy, will revolve around around an elaborate and horrific story dreamt up by the band, that continues to unfold in the build up to release. Pre-orders are available now, HERE. “For The Recognition” follows previous singles “Shaken (Not Stirred)“,  ‘The Impressionist’ and ‘Telescope‘, which have clocked up over 1.07 million Spotify streams and 308k views on YouTube combined

The Generation Of Danger is a concept album about a genius scientist who gets fed up with being swept under the run. After the multi-billion-dollar corporation that employs him takes credit for his latest, award-winning invention, he snaps and retaliates against them by forcing them to take part in the greatest experiment the world of science has ever seen.

The album offers fans more than just an album of pioneering nu-core metal. Whilst it will most certainly be lauded for Justin Bonitz‘s acclaimed aptitude for embodying numerous characters and emotions in his outstanding vocal shape-shifting and ability to meld the ever-blossoming ingenuity of Tallah’s intrepid musicians, The Generation Of Danger will reward those who delve deeper into the album and its supplementary content. The album was recorded once more with producer Josh Schroeder at Random Awesome Studio and continues to build the fascinatingly dark nu-core metal beast Tallah have created and set loose. Pre-orders for the album are available now from earache.com/tallah

In celebration of The Generation Of DangerTallah have a stacked schedule of touring across the US. Currently on the road with Attila until October 19th, the band will then hit the road again on Friday, 4th November through November 19th with Drowning Pool. Tickets and further info available at linktr.ee/Tallah

Bloodywood wows NYC with a bloody great time at Gramercy Theatre on Saturday October 1st.

Bloodywood has made their way into the States with their fiery Nine Inch Naans tour. Emerging from New Delhi, India, the band inaugurated their North American tour at the Larger Than Life Festival and is making its rounds throughout the country with a glorious stop in New York City. Gramercy Theatre was the only correct place to be that night because these metal legends were on fire. From beginning to end these guys did not let up.

The venue was at a fever pitch. From the front row all the way to the seats at the very back of the theater, every single person was prepared to welcome Bloodywood with metal horns high in the air and chanting “Bloodywood!”. The band walked up to the stage and the energy soared through the roof. I can honestly count with one hand the amount of times I’ve ever seen the crowd at Gramercy get that riled up for a band. It was fascinating to witness. The band and fans were smiling, just beaming with unadulterated delight.

Bloodywood consists of vocalist Jayant Bhadula, Karan Katiyar on guitars and flute, and rapper Raoul Kerr (not present for the New York date). On the road they have Sarthak Pahwa on the dhol, Roshan Roy on bass and drummer Vishesh Singh accompanying. Together these guys have created a niche in the scene that is truly an amazing sight. Blending genres and cultures in the most magnificent of ways making language barriers obsolete.

Bhadula is a compelling frontman and constantly engaging the fans and bandmates. He immerses himself in the emotion and vulnerability of the performance. Katiyar switching between the guitar and the flute was spectacular. The addition of the flute brings a gentleness to the music that elevates the songs to all new levels and Katiyar executes it wonderfully. Watching Pahwa on the dhol was the first time I was able to witness that instrument in person and I was impressed! It’s loud, grand, and superbly powerful. Roy on bass is delightful to watch, he thoroughly enjoys being on stage and it shines through in his performance. He is right where he belongs. Singh on drums wraps everything together in perfectly executed succession. From the moment he got behind the drum kit until the very end, Singh was on fire for the entire night.

So listen up Arizona and Texas, from my experience, if they are stopping near you make sure to go out and see them. You will have a guaranteed great time.

In a break from tradition, Dave Gahan and Martin Gore revealed today that the Live Nation-presented tour will begin with a special, limited series of North American arena dates starting March 23rd, before the band heads to Europe for their summer stadium tour. These limited North American dates will feature stops at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Chicago’s United Center, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, among others. The band will then begin their European stadium tour on May 16th, with noted stops including the Stade de France in Paris, Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, Milan’s San Siro Stadium, and London’s Twickenham Stadium. For further information on the tour routing and ticket on-sale dates, please go to depechemode.com. The full listing of dates, cities and venues is also below.

In speaking about Memento Mori, Martin Gore commented, “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.” Dave Gahan added, “Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.”

The Memento Mori Tour will be Depeche Mode’s 19th tour and their first in over five years. The band’s most recent outing, the 2017-2018 Global Spirit Tour was its longest to date and was one of the year’s highest grossing tours, with the band playing to more than 3 million fans over the course of 130 shows across Europe and North America.

Memento Mori will be Depeche Mode’s 15th studio album and the follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed Spirit, which reached #1 in 11 territories, charting in the Top 5 in more than 20 others. Memento Mori will be released worldwide in Spring 2023 via Columbia Records.

Having sold more than 100 million records and played to more than 35 million fans worldwide, Depeche Mode remains an ever-evolving and singularly influential musical force. An indelible inspiration to fans, critics and artists alike, Depeche Mode continues to forge ahead, with the Memento Mori album and tour representing the opening of the newest chapter of a peerless and ongoing legacy.

Lamb Of God – Omens | Album Review

We knew it would would be heavy, we knew it would be loud, and after hearing the album in full I’m so happy Lamb of God are still delivering. Randy sounds as fierce as ever, Mark Morton is amazing with almost everything he’s laying out, there is a lot to take in. The variety in the first half especially with the grooves is welcomed. The title track and Ditch are huge songs with great heavy hooks. Even after you get some overload of the ferocity in the second half, it still works well as an album with a great closing September Song. This is a great example of a band aging like a fine wine and still being just as strong as ever. 8/10.
