ANTI-FLAG Release Music Video for “Shallow Graves” feat. Tré Burt

Anti Flag

Pittsburgh punk rock iconoclasts ANTI-FLAG will be plenty busy in 2023. The band just kicked off their winter North American touring campaign alongside the legendary Flogging Molly, and today they are dropping a new music video for the song “Shallow Graves”.

Another heart-wrenching salvo off their new full-length, Lies They Tell Our Children’, the track features guest vocals from burgeoning folk singer/songwriter Tré Burt, and touches on the ugly and inhumane passages of the American story.

The band shares:

“We were really adamant about creating a visual accompaniment for this song. To us, ‘Shallow Graves’ is a perfect encapsulation of the intention and concept of the new album. The evil and vile history of the United States of America, when traced back, creates a clear lineage of how its violent history begets its violent present begets its violent future.

“Drawing the parallels between the slaughtering of native peoples allowing for massive land grabs that lead to the thirst for the enslavement of Africans and the expansion of the slave trade. Moving further west to exploit Chinese migrant workers, Mexican males, and the creation of immoral border and immigration laws that are the framework for the mistreatment of immigrant and refugee communities today. Not to mention its ties to the modern NRA architect Harlon Carter, it’s just a breeding ground of evil.”

On the “Shallow Graves” video, they add: “INDECLINE and Pedro Millás were able to demonstrate and tell this story in a more beautiful and cinematic way than we could have ever hoped. We are grateful for their talent and vision. It’s a bit of a futile task for a 2min long punk song to attempt to summarize the fact that the ground beneath your feet, currently, no matter where you are, is rife with injustice and blood.”

Thrice Release Re-Recorded ‘The Artist In The Ambulance’

Thrice

Following a successful run of shows in December and preparing to celebrate 25 years of being a band, California rock band Thrice just shared a brand-new, re-recorded version of The Artist In The Ambulance. The album revisits all twelve original tracks, featuring guest vocals from Ryan Osterman (Holy Fawn), Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Sam Carter (Architects), Mike Minnick (Curl Up And Die), Brian McTernan (Be Well), and Andy Hull.

Fans can stream The Artist In The Ambulance – Revisited and pre-order limited edition vinyl now at https://lnk.to/THRICEambulance

The Artist In The Ambulance – Revisited Tracklist

1. Cold Cash And Cold Hearts
2. Under A Killing Moon (feat. Sam Carter)
3. All That’s Left
4. Silhouette
5. Stare At The Sun (feat. Andy Hull)
6. Paper Tigers (feat. Ryan Osterman)
7. Hoods On Peregrine (feat. Brian McTernan)
8. The Melting Point Of Wax
9. Blood Clots And Black Holes (feat. Chuck Ragan)
10. The Artist In The Ambulance
11. The Abolition Of Man (feat. Mike Minnick)
12. Don’t Tell And We Won’t Ask

The question has to be asked: Why would we re-record a 20 year old album, let alone one that is widely beloved and arguably our most well-known. I think the core of the answer is that it simply sounded fun and we were curious,” shares Kensrue. “We know that playing the revisionist is a dangerous game, so we were always a little uneasy about trying to go back and mess with something that people loved, people who had none of the hangups about the record that we did. But, since we decided to do this anyway, we tried to let that wariness guide us in how we approached the record, and in the end we decided to make very minimal structural changes.”

Released in 2003, The Artist In The Ambulance remains one of the most influential albums in the genre. Featuring tracks like “The Artist In The Ambulance,” “All That’s Left,” “Stare At The Sun” and more, the album peaked at number 1 and number 16 on the Billboard US Top Internet Albums and Billboard 200 chart respectively. “All That’s Left” peaked at number 24 on Alternative Airplay, number 36 on Mainstream Rock Airplay and number 37 on Active Rock, and “Stare at the Sun” peaked at number 39 on Alternative Airplay. More recently, The Artist In The Ambulance was named by NME as one of the 20 emo albums that have stood the test of time, and Rock Sound ranked it number 25 on their list of modern classics.

At the end of the day, what we wanted the record to sound like for fans is that somehow one of their old favorite records got a new lease on life, but that it hadn’t lost its soul or turned into something else. We hope you enjoy revisiting The Artist In the Ambulance.”

Thrice also announced their upcoming tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of The Artist In The Ambulance. The tour kicks off on May 18 in San Diego, CA, and will be visiting cities throughout the United States, playing The Artist In The Ambulance in its entirety, with special guest Holy Fawn. Pre-sale tickets are available now at https://thrice.net/. All additional tickets go on sale Friday, February 3 at 12pm ET on www.thrice.net

On the upcoming tour, Thrice vocalist Dustin Kensrue shares, “The Artist in the Ambulance has played such a huge part in the history of the band. These songs have stood the test of time better than we could have known when we wrote them. But they’ve also subtly shifted and grown with us as we’ve played them at shows over the last 20 years, which is why it was so much fun to revisit them in the studio, and also why we are so excited to play the whole record live, especially for the first time in its entirety.”

Pixies Add Second North American Leg to 2023 World Tour

Today, alt-rock icons Pixies announce the addition of Leg Two for its 2023 North American concert tour. With many dates on Leg One already sold out, Leg Two launches on June 8 and will see the band headlining in venues from Boston to Ohio to Texas, as well as making a special appearance at Bonnaroo on June 18. Also announced, the Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand, and American indie rockers Bully will be Special Guests on all Pixies’ Leg Two headline dates. Confirmed shows for Legs One and Two are below; tickets for Leg Two go on sale Friday, February 3 at https://pixies.ffm.to/live.OPR; remaining tickets for Leg One dates are currently on sale at https://pixies.ffm.to/live.OPR

All North American dates are in support of Pixies’ latest album, Doggerel (BMG), and are part of the band’s 2022-2023 World Tour that launched last Spring and has seen the band playing to sold-out headline shows throughout the UK, Europe, South America, Japan, New Zealand and Australia.

As Pixies rehearse 90-100 songs before every tour, there are no predetermined set lists for any of the concerts, the band will play what they want when they want, and each “next” song is determined just before its first note is played. Consequently, every Pixies show is different.

In his review of Pixies’ Edinburgh show last August, David Pollock from The Scotsman wrote, “Grimy, relentless and effortlessly tuneful, this was some show from the Pixies, packing no fewer than 37 songs into a two-hour set. This was Maximum Pixies… a ‘Now That’s What I Call a Pixies set,’ which condensed more than 35 years of history into one bullet-sized dose.” And from NME’s Sam Moore at Spain’s Mad Cool Festival, “Things you expect to see at your average Pixies gig: hit after hit after hit. ‘Gouge Away’? Check. ‘Wave Of Mutilation’? Of course! ‘Caribou’? Naturally. No banter – just bangers. — You want more? Don’t worry: Black Francis and Co. have got you, with ‘Hey’, ‘Tame’, ‘Monkey Gone To Heaven’ and ‘Vamos.’” Chris Schulz with the New Zealand Herald wrote, “Pixies’ Sydney Opera House show is a rambunctious, confrontational blast from the past. ‘Bone Machine,’ ‘Debaser,’ ‘Gouge Away,’ ‘Here Comes Your Man,’ and ‘Where Is My Mind?’ All get wickedly delicious outings, bringing the crowd to their feet and dancing and singing along in unison. No opening act, just two hours and 31 songs of pure Pixies, who proved they’re still as weird and wonderfully bonkers as their fans. That standing ovation lasted for minutes – and they deserved every second of it.”

Confirmed dates for Pixies’ North American tour are as follows:

LEG ONE:
MAY 2023
 4 Fox Theater, Oakland, CA
6 Golden State Theatre, Monterey, CA
8 The Van Buren, Phoenix, AZ

13 Encore Theatre at Wynn, Las Vegas, NV

LEG TWO:
JUNE 2023

 9 The Met, Philadelphia, PA
10 The Anthem, Washington, D.C.
12 Kemba Live!, Columbus, OH
13 Stage AE, Pittsburgh, PA
14 Andrew J. Brady Music Center, Cincinnati, OH

The Mars Volta Announces Upcoming Tour Dates

Mars Volta

The Mars Volta have announced a run of headline show dates that will take place this May and include performances at Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, Welcome To Rockville Festival in Daytona, FL and a show supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers in San Diego, CA.

These shows come on the heels a wildly prolific year for the band. In September of 2022, they released ‘The Mars Volta’, their seventh studio album and first new music in a decade via Clouds Hill Recordings. It was critically acclaimed and reignited guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala – finding them at the most mature, most concise, and most focused place they had ever been. ‘The Mars Volta’ can be streamed and purchased digitally and physically. Digitally, the album is available in Dolby Atmos and spatial audio, and physically on CD and vinyl with Clouds Hill holding an exclusive, kinetic version of the vinyl, which can be ordered here: www.cloudshillshop.com. A special, gold foiled outer sleeve with embossed art is also available on LP, CD and cassette.

They also embarked on a nationwide tour, which had them performing live as The Mars Volta for the first time in ten years. The shows sold out quickly with many cities adding extra nights due to overwhelming demand, which also sold out.

Tickets for the upcoming headline shows with support from Teri Gender Bender will go on sale at 10AM local time on February 3 via the band’s website – www.themarsvoltaofficial.com

The Mars Volta – Upcoming headline tour dates

May 6 – Shaky Knees Festival – Atlanta, GA
May 9 – The Criterion – Oklahoma City, OK
May 10 – Revel – Albuquerque, NM
May 12 – Snapdragon Stadium – San Diego, CA w/ Red Hot Chili Peppers, Thundercat
May 13 – Marquee Theatre – Tempe, AZ
May 14 – Abraham Chavez Theatre – El Paso, TX
May 16 – Tech Port Center & Arena – San Antonio, TX
May 18 – Orpheum Theatre – New Orleans, LA
May 19 – 713 Music Hall – Houston, TX
May 21 – Welcome To Rockville Festival – Daytona Beach, FL

Formed by guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta rose from the ashes of El Paso punk-rock firebrands At The Drive-In in 2001. On a mission to “honor our roots and honor our dead”, The Mars Volta made music that fused the Latin sounds Rodríguez-López was raised on with the punk and underground noise he and Bixler-Zavala had immersed themselves in for years, and the futuristic visions they were tapping into. The albums that followed were one-of-a-kind masterpieces, their songs of breath-taking complexity also possessing powerful emotional immediacy. After the group fell silent, a legion of devotees (including Kanye West) kept up an insistent drum-beat for their return.

White Reaper – Asking For A Ride | Album Review

If you are into the garage band style that was big in the 2000’s, then you are going to be into Asking For A Ride. The guitar work drives this album. The tone is bright and brought up front in the best songs like “Fog Machine” and the title track show off the guitar riffs well. That being said, I wanted to like this album more than I did. It has energy, it goes by quick, but it just doesn’t have a ton of substance. It’s a blast at times but the garage, punk, thrash fusing all washes in together and the songs all lose a bit of identity after a while. Definitely not a bad ride even if it’s not an extremely memorable one. 6/10.

White Reaper is an American garage punk band based in Louisville, Kentucky. The band is composed of Tony Esposito (guitar/vocals), Ryan Hater, Hunter Thompson, Nick Wilkerson, and Sam Wilkerson.
