AFTER THE BURIAL Drop First New Music In 4 Years

Progressive metal quartet, After The Burial, have released their first new music in 4 years today with the drop of double single ‘Embrace The Infinity‘ which consists of two new tracks – “Nothing Gold” and “Death Keeps Us From Living“. Watch the official music video for “Nothing Gold” HERE and stream both tracks HERE.

Reflecting on the harrowing new single which details the band’s unique experience with the COVID-19 lockdowns, vocalist Anthony Notarmaso reveals

“These songs were written during a hard time in my life. I went to a place that some of us have been before, and some have never come back from. They move on the impermanence of life, that nothing lasts forever and giving in to the loss of control we no longer have when something dear to us ends. But they also remind us that fear, and the past can’t keep us from living.

“After the world turned upside down, like a lot of people, we found ourselves searching for inspiration. Exploring different avenues to express our creativity seemed to leave us lost. Instead, we found solace in going back to our roots and writing what we know and love. These songs are undeniably After The Burial, but with a modern twist. We hope you enjoy this next journey with us.”

The new tracks follow 2019’s monolithic effort ‘Evergreen’, and tackles the familiar themes of isolation, loss, and hopelessness that arise in such uncertain times. However, in true After The Burial fashion, they are brought to life with a healthy dose of resilience and perseverance that is palpable in every sense. The result is a triumphant step forward into the band’s future, set to the backdrop of evocative vocals, intricate guitar riffs, and inventive rhythms that further push the sonic boundaries of their core sound.

Even in crisis, After The Burial managed to craft compelling new music to not only keep the show rolling but provide solace and healing for themselves more than anything else. Today, they are happy to reveal that they have grown exponentially and gained a valuable new perspective.

Perhaps the more vulnerable song of the pair is “Death Keeps Us From Living,” which touches on the painful loss of several loved ones and, in many ways, Notarmaso’s intimate and personal ruminations on his mortality. “Fear will keep you from living your life and going after your dreams,” Notarmaso states. “This song is about healing and moving on. I think that’s why After The Burial is still a band. We’re resilient and all we can do is keep moving forward. If my pain can help even one person, I will make that sacrifice for the rest of my life.”

After The Burial are putting the finishing touches on their yet-to-be-announced seventh studio album, and will soon embark on a massive North American tour with Spiritbox and Intervals. The band will also be appearing at Milwaukee Metal Fest in May. Full routing below. For tickets and more info go to aftertheburial.co

Pixies Announce Leg 3rd North American 2023 Tour

Today, indie rock kingpins Pixies and Modest Mouse announce they will be joining forces for the third and final leg of Pixies’ 2023 North American tour. With Special Guest Cat Power, the third leg kicks off August 20 at the Stone Pony Summerstage, Asbury Park, NJ, wrapping up in California mid-September, with more shows to be announced soon.  Tickets will be on sale this Friday, March 31 at 10AM (local) and can be purchased here: https://bnds.us/ziwfqx

The third North American leg this year is also the final leg for Pixies’ 2022-2023 World Tour that launched in March 2022 and will finish in September 2023. The tour has seen the band play sold out shows across North America, the UK, Europe, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Pixies have just wrapped a month-long headline run across Europe and the UK.

Pixies 2022-2023 World Tour is in support of the band’s latest album Doggerel (BMG) about which the NME reported “is the most inventive since their reunion nearly two decades ago.”  American Songwriter’s Alli Patton wrote, “The Pixies’ new album, Doggerel is ominous, haunting, and gruesome, heavy with treacherous sounds that indulge in an equal softness. The drums punch and the bass slinks along in a mucky mire of a beat, but those harsh sounds are met with a cosmic velvet, a cushy patchwork of breath and light. The album is Medieval in the Space Age. It’s a somber march to the executioner’s block and a celestial trek among the Pleiades. Doggerel’s lyrics are whimsical but insightful in the Pixies’ irreverent songwriting fashion. Charming and yet still sagely.”

Pixies’ concerts are well-known for being “one-of-a-kind,” as the band has no pre-determined set lists, the “next song” is the one that “feels right,” so you’ll never see the same show twice. And the song choices go deep, as the band – Black Francis/guitar, vocals, Joey Santiago/guitar, David Lovering/drums, background vocals, and Paz Lenchantin/bass, background vocals) come on to every stage prepared to play any of the 90-100 songs they’ve rehearsed.

SKINDRED Release New Single “Set Fazers”

Having blasted dancefloors to smithereens just before Christmas with their ferocious anthem ‘Gimme That Boom’, Skindred return with another instant classic in the form of ‘Set Fazers’. The second single to be taken from their forthcoming album Smile it’s an addictive sci-fi slam-dunk designed to quake arenas and festivals around the planet this summer.

Lead singer Benji Webbe states, “Star date 22.3.23: With this song we’re going boldly going where no ragga-metal has gone before. We come in peace, L.O.V.E and unity, to bring Skindred’s outergalactic sound-system to the infinite expanse of the cosmos.”

And that galactic soundsystem comes under attack in the ridiculously entertaining video for ‘Set Fazers’, where the band are hunted down on the streets of London and ‘fazered’ by a giggling purple assassin. It also features social media star Shin who sparked a Skindred-shaped Tik Tok dance craze last month, so the band invited him on set to bring his moves to ‘Set Fazers’.

Skindred drummer Arya Goggin explains, “The idea with the ‘Set Fazers’ video was to make a Sci Fi meets Dancehall epic! Through TikTok we met an amazing dancer called Shin (whose dance to our song ‘Nobody’ went viral earlier this year) and he’s added his unique style to the video too. We had so much fun filming it and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

Both ‘Set Fazers’ and ‘Gimme That Boom’ will be igniting moshpits and stages in coming months as Skindred headline both Takedown and Dominion Festivals in the UK before heading out on a massive arena run as Special Guests of American legends KISS on their much-anticipated farewell tour. The band will also be bringing their unparalleled live set to the main stages of 2000 Trees and Maid Of Stone Festivals in the UK, plus appearances at various European festivals this summer.

Their new album Smile is set to be hailed as the band’s masterpiece; an album that brings together all facets of Skindred’s music – from reggae to metal, rock to pop, dub to electro – into the most mind-expanding and potent collection of songs, designed to melt stereos around the world. It’s their eighth long-player and their first for Earache Records, with whom they signed a global four-album deal last year.

Fall Out Boy – So Much (For) Stardust | Album Review

We were teased with “Love On The Other Side” which is the best Fall Out Boy song in over 10 years. This is not an awful album, there’s nothing that’s flat-out unlistenable. But it’s also the equivalent of a “shoulder shrug” for Fall Out Boy. Some of the songs are greatly outdated as you can tell they were written early pandemic. You then have Ethan Hawk show up for…reasons. Fall Out Boy try their hand and full pop production on some songs, abandoning rock, even some R&B flair with “Heaven, Iowa” which… wasn’t as sexy as they tried to make it sound. It’s truly harmless and it’s not played poorly, the overwriting and punny, smart hooks are still there. Again, it’s not an awful album. It’s just a shame because outside of “Love On The Other Side” and “Heartbreak Feels So Good”, there is a whole lot of shoulder shrugs. So much for…a big comeback. 6/10.

Fall Out Boy So Much (For) Stardust Album Review

Is Fall Out Boy Overrated?

Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, drummer Andy Hurley, and guitarist Joe Trohman.[a] The band originated from Chicago’s hardcore punk scene and was formed by Wentz and Trohman as a pop-punk side project; Stump joined shortly thereafter. The group went through a succession of drummers before Hurley joined.

So Much (for) Stardust is the eighth studio album by the American rock band Fall Out Boy. The album was released on March 24, 2023 on Fueled by Ramen and DCD2. The album reunites the band with producer Neal Avron, who last produced Folie à Deux (2008), and also marks the band’s return to their original record label Fueled By Ramen, which last released Take This to Your Grave (2003). The first single from the album, “Love from the Other Side”, was released on January 18, 2023, alongside the official announcement of the album.

August Burns Red – Death Below | Album Review

August Burns Red is a group that’s synonymous with the word “metalcore” at this point. They should be – as the band turns twenty years old this month, their longevity has outlasted the majority of the genre and stayed steadfast to their roots, whereas their genre companions settled down their sounds. Truly a case of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, we’ve come to expect ABR’s brand of tempo-changes, breakdowns, chugging riffs, and minimal clean vocals for two decades. That changes with their tenth album, Death Below, as this is the first occassion where August Burns Red departs from their norm and introduces a more progressive, deliberate presentation. So, how does this change in sound pan out for longtime listeners like myself?

After Death Below sets its tone with opener “Premonition”, “The Cleansing” marks the album’s first outlier – a nearly eight-minute track. As August Burns Red songs are typically 3 to 4 minute affairs, this is a curveball that is steadied by a shift from minor key to major key after its bridge. With more blast beats than usual, clean vocals, and a perfect transition into the next track, ABR shows the listener they’re branching out from their winning formula. “Ancestry” follows up with thrashy riffs, a feature from Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach, and a certain desperate anguish to its lyricism that makes it the takeaway single from Death Below.

“Tightrope” brings another guest in Jason Richardson ripping a positively gnarly guitar solo in another shreddy track from August Burns Red. With another seamless transition into interlude “Fool’s Goold in the Bear Trap”, it’s evident that Death Below is best enjoyed as a whole instead of mindlessly throwing it on to listen in the background; think of it more like an Opeth/Between the Buried and Me long-form experience rather than old Architects/Texas in July throwing breakdown after breakdown at you. “Backfire” contains my favorite ABR lyric as its closer: “Endless belief in a liar leads to a violent backfire”.

As the back half of Death Below continues into the 30-minute mark, “Revival”s throwback opening metalcore riff is a surefire delight for longtime listeners, plus a neat nice bass run within its bridge. As “Dark Divide” comes on, the aforementioned tempo-change breakdown fans have come to love ABR for hits as this track takes a slow yet heavy pace and even introduces some subtle synth for keen-eared listeners. Expect both chugging riffs and more clean vocals in “Deadbolt” as Death Below nears its end. JT Cavey of ERRA guests in “The Abyss” and fittingly has a punchy, staccato’d breakdown come on before his entrance. “Reckoning” is the closer that also nears eight minutes, welcoming Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath and sending the listener off with everything Death Below had to offer and more with grace.

Death Below is an absolute dark horse within August Burns Red’s discography. While it’s a moderate departure in the band’s sound, it’s also proof that 20 years in, these musicians are still worthy of being a household name in metalcore. Death Below is undoubtedly a record that needs your attention and a full 53-minute dedication to get the most out of it, but that’ll be no problem for -core fans willing to engage in their listen. Between Jake’s stalwart vocal performance, JB/Brent’s ability to still craft guitar runs that boggle the mind, Matt’s unmatched drum fills, and Dustin’s supplemental highs, August Burns Red is experiencing something of a renaissance in Death Below and fans young and old will want to come back to this one.

Rating: 4/5

Babymetal – The Other One | Album Review

This is the most ambitious Babymetal album and also I feel their best. Think of the tracks on The Other One as parallel worlds that Babymetal exist in. That idea along with a more mature and dynamic-sounding final product makes The Other One stand out. The Kami Band does a great job supporting Su and Moametal. There is variety in speed and energy which I think suits the album’s direction. Songs like Divine Attack and Maya have a fantastic build-up. The big hooks are here WHILE not JUST being hooks and choruses. There are many layers to an album like this, and it’ll require a few listens to take everything in, but it’s worth the time wave. 8/10

Babymetal – The Other One | Album Review
Babymetal – “Divine Attack”

Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese kawaii metal band consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto as “Su-metal” and Moa Kikuchi as “Moametal”. The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the “Kami Band” at performances. The band’s unique sound combines elements of heavy metal and J-Pop, creating a style that is both energetic and catchy.

QUEEN + Adam Lambert Return for The Rhapsody Tour Across North America

Having first launched their universally acclaimed Rhapsody Tour with 25 epic shows across North America in 2019, Queen + Adam Lambert are bringing their highly acclaimed production, now expanded and updated, back to where it first began. After a 4-year long hiatus, Sir Brian May, Roger Taylor and their exceptional frontman Adam Lambert have announced they will set out on a spectacular North America run this fall. Produced by Live Nation, the tour kicks off on October 4 at Baltimore’s CFG Bank Arena making stops in Toronto, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas, Denver and more before concluding at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. See full routing below.

Brian May says, “Our last tour featured our most ambitious production ever. So we decided to rip it apart and get even more ambitious. Watch out world.”

And Adam Lambert says: “I can’t wait to tour North America one more time with the Rhapsody tour alongside the two unbelievably talented legends that are Brian May and Roger Taylor.”

Queen + Adam Lambert’s 150-minute career-spanning set list celebrates the band’s extraordinary back catalogue, lining up wall-to-wall immortal anthems like “We Will Rock You”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Radio Ga Ga”, and “Somebody To Love” alongside classic deep cuts and vintage fan favourites. Featuring a dazzling state-of-the-art stage design, incredible special effects and set pieces, this sense-swamping extravaganza has been blowing critics and fans away the world over.

As with last year’s UK and European dates, the 2023 North American tour will see Queen + Adam Lambert supported on stage by their regular band members, long-serving Queen keyboard player and musical director Spike Edney, bass guitarist Neil Fairclough and percussionist Tyler Warren.

Having extensively toured over the last few years, the Rhapsody show is forever evolving. But it remains at heart a tribute to Freddie Mercury’s majestic legacy, a confirmation of Brian and Roger’s undimmed musical prowess, plus a magnificent showcase for Adam’s vocal skills and electrifying stage charisma, all of which adds up to a glorious full-blooded celebration of one of the greatest songbooks in rock history. Read more on the story of The Rhapsody Tour so far, including the special performance opening the Platinum Jubilee concert with the late Queen herself tea cup tapping to the beat of “We Will Rock You” HERE

TICKETS: Tickets will be available via a general onsale beginning Friday, March 31st at 10AM local time at LiveNation.com.

Queen + Adam Lambert appreciate that it is an enormous task to try and stop scalpers from taking advantage of fans wanting to purchase tickets for the tour. In an effort to help minimize resale and keep ticket prices at face value for fans, the band are collaborating with the venues’ ticketing partners to restrict the ability to transfer tickets for The Rhapsody Tour so that they may only be transferred between fans at the original price.

Fans will still have protection against unforeseen circumstances. Those who purchase tickets and are no longer able to attend their show will be able to sell their tickets at the price they paid using a face value ticket exchange, including the Ticketmaster Face Value Exchange – which is free to use for buyers and sellers. More information on how the Ticketmaster Exchange works is available here

Unfortunately, the states of NY, IL, and CO have laws in place which protect ticket scalpers – these laws prohibit artists from being able to restrict the transfer of their tickets to face value exchanges only. For shows in these states, Queen + Adam Lambert strongly encourage fans to only buy or sell tickets to one another on face value exchanges. More information can be found here, with more details to follow in the coming weeks.

Early reaction to Memento Mori has been unanimously positive, with The New York Times citing the band’s “exquisite darkness,” Rolling Stone praising the album’s “characteristic musical beauty and lyrical depth,” and the Associated Press raving “The music is staring lovingly into the abyss and asking it to love it back… Depeche Mode might be facing their own mortality but their power as musicians stretches into infinity.” In the UK, the Guardian hailed the return of “the biggest cult band in the world” and lauded the album’s “perfect blend of ominous mood, electronic textures that range from intense to ethereal,” while the NME and Uncut labelled Memento Mori “majestic” and “their most powerful work this century, respectively.

Produced by James Ford, with additional production work by Marta Salogni, Memento Mori’s gestation took place during the early stages of the Covid pandemic, resulting in themes inspired directly by that period. The album’s 12 tracks chart a vast expanse of moods and textures, from its ominous opening to its closing resolve—running the gamut from paranoia and obsession to catharsis and joy, and hitting myriad points between.

Depeche Mode kicked off its Memento Mori World Tour last night with a sold-out show at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center. Due to popular demand, the tour recently added dozens of new dates, including a new Fall leg of North American shows. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020 inductees’ 19th outing and first in more than five years, the Live Nation-presented tour has gotten underway with a limited North American run featuring stops at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Chicago’s United Center, and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. The band will then embark on a European stadium tour on May 16, with noted stops including the Stade de France in Paris, two shows at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, Milan’s San Siro Stadium, and London’s Twickenham Stadium.

Following the end of the European summer run, the recently added leg of the tour brings the band back to North America in the fall, stopping in Mexico City for three nights at Foro Sol before returning to the US and Canada. Newly announced tour stops include Austin’s Moody Center, Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, additional New York City shows at Madison Square Garden and Barclay’s Center, Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena and more, concluding with a multi-night run in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum and Crypto.com Arena.

Reception to the Memento Mori tour has been overwhelming with shows quickly selling out across Europe and North America, and over two million tickets already sold. The 81 date tour is on track to be one of Depeche Mode’s largest to date and is also well on its way to being one of the largest worldwide tours of 2023.

Having sold more than 100 million records and played to more than 35 million fans worldwide, Depeche Mode remains an ever-evolving and singularly influential musical force. An indelible inspiration to fans, critics and artists alike, Depeche Mode continues to forge ahead, with the Memento Mori album and tour representing the opening of the newest chapter of a peerless and ongoing legacy.
