Indie-punk darlings Spanish Love Songs will release Doom & Gloom Sessions, a collection of fan-voted covers out April 25th via Pure Noise Records, from the nearly two-dozen recorded or re-interpreted and released exclusively for the band’s “Doom & Gloom Social Club” community since March of 2020. Today, fans can stream “Smile Like You Mean It” (original by The Killers) and be on the lookout for additional covers of songs like “Futures” (original by Jimmy Eat World), “Portions for Foxes” (original by Rilo Kiley), and “Now It’s On” (original by Grandaddy). A full track list with release dates can be found below.
“We were never a band who did a lot of covers, says vocalist and guitarist Dylan Slocum, “but we’d always kept a running list.” “When we had downtime between albums, we finally got to knock off a few”
“We’d put them up each month for our Doom & Gloom Social Club to vote on, engage with our community, and talk about great music.” Continued Slocum, “It was a great process, the freedom and fun we had recording these covers once a month for 2 years ended up sort of defining our approach as we started working on the new album. No pressure or expectations, just having fun being in the same room again and making music.”

Enter Shikari are today sharing “Bloodshot“, the third single to be taken from their highly-anticipated forthcoming album A Kiss For The Whole World, which will be released on 21st April via SO Recordings / Ambush Reality. Listen to “Bloodshot“ on streaming services here.
“Bloodshot” follows recent singles “(pls) set me on fire”and “It Hurts”, both of which were instantly embraced with open arms by fans old and new, and received their first live outings during the band’s sensational run of sold-out February residency shows in the UK. For Enter Shikari, rejuvenation, resilience and resurrection have been on the agenda as they introduce new music to the world. However, in the arrival of “Bloodshot” the band have more questions to pose themselves, and us.
Lead vocalist and producer Rou Reynolds explains:
“Every day, I seem to be asking myself “Is this article biased?”, “is this claim true?”, “Should I be more furious about this issue? Or less furious?”, “Am I being manipulated? Provoked? Radicalised by my own ‘tribe’?.
“Bloodshot” is about how hard it is to find truth, and how easy it is to stop thinking for yourself and simply repeat your ‘team’s’ mantras.
Everyone’s so fucking angry with everyone else and it’s exhausting. It seems like social media’s main purpose these days is to hypnotise us to hate.”
Pre-order A Kiss For The Whole Worldhere. Limited formats of the new album come packaged with the Live From Alexandra Palace 3 album & DVD, recorded live in December 2021 at the band’s sold out 10,000 capacity London show.

Enter Shikari have also announced an intimate all ages matinee show at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA on April 30th, to accompany their sold out run of very special album release shows across UK, Europe and the US. Alongside their matinee show, the band will be hitting Los Angeles (5/03), Chicago (5/5) and New York (5/10) for their special US run.
This is another massive, proggy, metalcore, djenty, fill-in-your-own-subgenre-here album that checks many boxes. The guitarwork from Misha and Mark is creative, wild, and fantastic. Spencer’s vocals hold up strong and have some serious high points. There are many styles from heavy metal to synth-pop displayed which also shows how much the group is capable of meshing together. Songs like “Atropos” and “Wildfire” are relentless, but that’s balanced by slower connecting segments like in “Dying Star” which are electronic and smooth. This Periphery album is massive and sometimes overwhelming, but after a few listens you realize just how much was put into an album arguing the validity of djent. This star isn’t dying at all. 8/10.

Knotfest is expanding its emerging artist brand, Pulse of the Maggots, by teaming up with SXSW for an official showcase set for March 18 at Elysium in Austin.
This showcase is a powerhouse that spotlights a wide range of artists currently causing thrills in the heavy culture space.
The lineup, in alphabetical order, is as follows: The Callous Daoboys, Creeping Death, Escuela Grind, Miliatrie Gun, Soul Glo, and VCTMS.
SXSW states that it is “thrilled to partner with KNOTFEST for their first-ever official showcase. As a festival that’s focused on highlighting new and upcoming artists in the heavy scene, KNOTFEST and Pulse of the Maggots are a perfect fit and are helping us expand more into the growing metal and hardcore scenes. We are excited for everyone to see what is in store for the night.”
Clown of Slipknot shares the enthusiasm, saying, “Excited for the new Pulses for us all.”
Pulse of the Maggots Fest initially began as a digital festival in 2020, shortly after the launch of Knotfest.com as a full heavy culture media hub as a way to bring emerging artist performances to audience across the world during the world shut down. After two more digital festivals, Pulse Fest had its inaugural in-person event with the Pulse Fest UK featuring Sylosis, Orbit Culture, Heriot, Spiritworld, and more.
With this SXSW showcase (as well as other festivals spanning the globe, including currently on-sale festivals in Australia, Japan, and Italy, Knotfest continues its impact as a curator in the heavy genre.
ABOUT THE PULSE OF MAGGOTS x SXSW SHOWCASE LINEUP:
THE CALLOUS DAOBOYS: Earning comparative nods to mathcore lineage like Botch and Converge, the sextet package a cacophony of organized chaos in a performance on 2022’s Celebrity Therapist that is purely volatile.
CREEPING DEATH: Practitioners of Texas heft, Creeping Death have taken up the torch for the modern era of death metal. The band’s Edge of Existence EP was hailed for it classic and contemporary take on the genre such that their forthcoming 2023 release is among the most anticipated of the year.
ESCUELA GRIND: The New England grindcore unit proved relentless on their 2022 full length, Memory Theater. Paying homage to their predecessors like Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, and early Carcass, the technical prowess in tandem with the sheer brutality of the band make them among extreme music’s most promising prospects.
MILITARIE GUN: Dynamic songwriters well beyond their years, L.A.’s Militarie Gun have a knack for crafting tunes that stick. Their All Roads Lead to the Gun ushered in a new era of post-hardcore brilliance that leaned heavily on memorable hooks, punchy guitars and a ’90s angst executed with grit and guts.
SOUL GLO: The Philly hardcore standouts scored a massive win in 2022 with the release of their universally acclaimed, Diaspora Problems. Praised for their biting social commentary and frenzied execution, they are among the most exciting, emerging names in the landscape of contemporary hardcore.
VCTMS: The Chicago aggressors and DIY riders spent most of 2022 touring in support of their Vol. IV: Numb the Ache LP. Ending the year with the reveal of the single, “The Dearly Beloved,” the band’s layered assault and musical bombast makes for an impressive show of force.
Dropkick Murphys will continue their journey interpreting the work of Woody Guthrie for a new generation with the May 12 release of their latest album Okemah Rising via the band’s Dummy Luck Music / [PIAS]. The 10-track album (available on CD, LP and streaming services worldwide) takes off from 2022’s This Machine Still Kills Fascists, on which Dropkick Murphys write original music around previously-unpublished lyrics of the late Guthrie in a unique collaboration, with the band finding a common philosophy in the timeless and timely lyrics of the “original punk.”
Joined by trusted collaborator and producer Ted Hutt, Dropkick Murphys channeled Guthrie’s spirit during the recording sessions in Tulsa. And much like on This Machine Still Kills Fascists, Dropkick Murphys welcomed guest artists on Okemah Rising to help propel Woody’s words, including folk punk legends Violent Femmes, fellow Boston rebel Jesse Ahern, and country songstress Jaime Wyatt.
Dropkick Murphys founder and vocalist Ken Casey explains, “Every night, when the audience is singing along with Woody‘s words, his steadfast defense of the working class, and his fight against social injustice and the abuse of political power comes across loud and clear. So as long as Dropkick Murphys are involved, Woody’s message will always be heard.”
Okemah Rising’s first single and video “I Know How It Feels,” gallops out of the gate towards an empathetic middle-class commiseration with the refrain, “I know how it feels to work ‘til you drop, and it’s 10,000 bills that you owe.”
Okemah Rising follows Dropkick Murphys’ highly-acclaimed This Machine Still Kills Fascists album, which exposed the band to new audiences through airplay on stations like SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country, coverage in outlets such as Rolling Stone Country, Paste, CNN, Americana Highways and SPIN, and via Dropkick Murphys’ first-ever acoustic, reserved-seating theater tour in 2022.
Okemah Rising is the final acoustic release from Dropkick Murphys’ recording sessions in Tulsa. This era in the band’s history will be captured in a documentary following their journey writing, recording, and performing the 20 songs they’ve crafted around Woody’s never-before-seen lyrics for these two albums.
Starting today, March 1, Dropkick Murphys come full-circle with their live shows, launching Pega Presents…Dropkick Murphys St. Patrick’s Day 2023 Tour with fully-electric rock shows now through March 19, with the tour culminating in four sold-out hometown shows in Boston. The Rumjacks and Jesse Ahern open most dates. Very special guests Turnpike Troubadours join Dropkick Murphys for three of the Boston shows (March 16-18) and Nikki Lane alsojoins the bill on March 16.
Dropkick Murphys’ world famous St. Patrick’s Day show will also be live streamed via Veeps on March 17 at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT. Tickets are available at: DropkickMurphys.veeps.com
The St. Patrick’s Day Tour will showcase fan favorites along with some new songs from Okemah Rising, including “I Know How It Feels” and “Gotta Get To Peekskill,” which DKM also played during their hugely successful European tour this winter. A highlight from the European tour was performing “Cadillac, Cadillac” (from This Machine Still Kills Fascists) and “Gotta Get To Peekskill” (from Okemah Rising) on Taratata, France’s long-running and #1 music television show.
Highlights of Okemah Rising include collaborations with folk punk progenitors Violent Femmes on “Gotta Get To Peekskill,“country singer songwriter Jaime Wyatt on “Bring It Home,” and Bostonian upstart Jesse Ahern (whose forthcoming album will be released on Dropkick Murphys’ Dummy Luck Music label) on “Rippin Up The Boundary Line.” The album comes to a fitting and triumphant close with “I’m Shipping Up To Boston – Tulsa Version.” Dropkick Murphys reinvent and reinvigorate their most famous Guthrie collaboration acoustically without sacrificing any of its punch, passion, and power.
Casey reveals, “Many people never realized that the lyrics for ‘I’m Shipping Up To Boston’ were written by Woody Guthrie, so we felt it important to include the song on this project and give it a proper home among the rest of our collaborations with his lyrics. We knew we needed to add some twists and turns to make this version special and fitting for this collection, so we gave it the Tulsa treatment.”
As 2023 wears on, Okemah Rising is the best soundtrack we have to the uprising of workers in the modern economy – one that Woody couldn’t have ever dreamed of in his day of industrial labor. Remarkably, Guthrie’s lyrics ring true even today, as we see baristas, internet retail warehouse workers, and medical students fight the billionaire corporate overlords with their efforts to unionize.
Nearly three decades in, Dropkick Murphys stand with their audiences and the working class, as they rally around the undying words of Woody Guthrie – their hero, and the original punk.
Given the universality and timelessness of Woody Guthrie’s lyrical themes, and Dropkick Murphys’ popularity around the globe, the songs from these two albums have resonated worldwide. In February, at the band’s sold-out London Wembley Arena show, vocalist Ken Casey tailored the chorus of union anthem “All You Fonies” (from TMSKF) to the room, replacing “Fonies” with “Tories.” That timely lyrical shift brought Guthrie’s decades-old lyric into the modern-day malaise of countless British unions (maritime, rail, transit, nurses, firefighters, postal workers, teachers, health care workers and more) battling with the nation’s corporate elite and Tory politicians. The band released a video for “All You Tories” featuring performance footage and animation: https://youtu.be/SLqb535hBi0
And in the U.S., the AFL-CIO recently recognized Dropkick Murphys with a lifetime achievement award, highlighting the band’s “career of empowering working people through their music.”
The vinyl edition of Okemah Rising includes the exclusive bonus song “Talking Hard Work.” Vinyl pre-orders at https://dropkickmurphys.store will include a free limited edition 7-inch with acoustic versions of Dropkick Murphys’ classics “Barroom Hero” and “Skinhead On The MBTA” recorded live at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. These are exclusive to the Dropkick Murphys web store and will not be sold at retail. Three exclusive Okemah Rising t-shirt designs are also available at https://dropkickmurphys.store.
