“SWEET OBLIVION TOUR” BEGINS OCTOBER 13

Baroness return with their highly-anticipated sixth album, STONE, on Sept. 15 via Abraxan Hymns.

“An important through line in Baroness is we don’t like to repeat ourselves,” John Baizley explains. “It’s all about the willingness to take risks. When I was younger, the whole point of music was to be different, not to do the same thing, and not to listen to parents or play by the rules. That’s kind of goofy, but in practice, it works. It’s really sort of terrifying to be at the sixth record in your career and think that you’ll have to keep up with your history rather than continually invent. So, we doubled down on continuously inventing to see where it takes us. I think this record is a good reflection of that. STONE is a lot more alive, more direct.”

That voluntary evolution brought the now Philadelphia-meets-Brooklyn based band to the border town of Barryville, N.Y. Electing to self-produce STONE,  Baroness spent a month shrouded amidst the pines, holed up in a vacation rental that became an impromptu recording space replete with big, vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, and brick/glass walls. While they wrote STONE, Baizley recorded and pre-mixed it in real time, giving each song on STONE its own sonic treatment. After the group finished tracking drums, guitars, and bass, they took everything back to Baizley’s basement studio to record vocals before handing the album off to mix master Joe Barresi (Kyuss, Tool) and mastering guru Bob Ludwig (Led Zeppelin, Nirvana).

“The recording process was completely self-contained,” adds Sebastian Thomsen. “Having just the four of us in a rented house in the mountains for a month resulted in not only a cohesive and authentic sound, but also an intense collective mentality.”

“I think we were able to strip everything away on this record,” Gina Gleason shares. “We were unified in that. So, we just jumped in and did our best. That felt really good. It was a really cool, empowering, creative experience.”

Baroness “Last Word”

The band offer a preview of the stirring new album with today’s release of “Last Word,” and its accompanying Nick Jost-directed video. “I had been developing this process for video and animation, and this being our first self-produced album, we thought ‘why not extend that ethos to the video, too?’” explains the Baroness bass player. “It was really nerve racking to direct and create my first music video, but having a lifetime of nightmares and a love for strange animation turned out to be very useful.”

Little Miss Nasty bring Rock-n-Roll Burlesque to House of Yes in Brooklyn, NY on June 11, 2023.

The rock ‘n’ roll traveling burlesque troupe, Little Miss Nasty, was at Brooklyn’s House of Yes with a provocative, jaw-dropping performance. The two-night residency featured performances by some of the most incredible dancers to ever set foot on a stage. These women did it all during the three-part show: crawling on walls, performing aerial stunts, singing, and dancing to a fantastic setlist of rock and metal tunes. Little Miss Nasty founder, Gina Katon, has created a space that uses entertainment, unabated rebellion, and seduction to uplift and empower women.

Walking into House of Yes was an experience in and of itself. When you first walk in, you’re greeted by multitudes of statues, disco balls, and oversized eyeballs hanging from the circus tent-painted ceiling. Despite the mismatched and quirky décor, the unconventional venue is quite inviting. Once inside the seating area, you could hear the theater buzzing with excited patrons waiting for the spectacle to commence.

Throughout the night, the multi-talented artists went through a multitude of costume changes and kept the audience guessing. They used songs from artists such as Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Combichrist, Rage Against The Machine, Pantera, In This Moment, Rob Zombie, and “Sippin’ On A Forty” from the Little Miss Nasty crew, Gina and the Eastern Block. Along with an excellent music selection, the acrobatics performed by each of the members present were outstanding. For her debut with Little Miss Nasty, Julia DiPretoro scaled a wall like a natural-born spider and made it look effortless. Sylvana Cecilia Tapia mesmerized with an aerial routine in which she used chains to support herself from the ceiling. Kyla Bullings choreographed three of the numbers of the night and was an unstoppable dancing machine. Bringing modern interpretative dance to life was Taliya Winecoff, while Sabina Lundgren led the uprising of the sinful goddess. Singer and dancer extraordinaire, SaTiva, took to the air with a remarkable aerial piece.

A night filled with beauty, talent, and, most importantly, the powerful message that will transcend generations, borders, and the masses. Little Miss Nasty stands for women’s empowerment, and last Sunday night proved it. If you get a chance to witness these wonderful women on a stage near you, do it. You won’t regret it.

Top 10 BEST 2000s Rock Bands (from Google Bard)

The 2000s were filled with breakout stars and huge bands making amazing music. Time to see how AI processes that decade. This video looks at the Top 10 BEST 2000s Rock Bands (from Google Bard).

From Google Bard: “Here is my ranking of the top 10 rock bands of the 2000s, based on their commercial success, critical acclaim, and influence on the genre.”

Thank you to everyone who has been supporting and engaging with these Google Bard, or “Bardy”, videos. They are fun to work with and what I feel is a comical use of AI. All I know is that if there is ever an AI uprising, we just have to start playing Linkin Park and the bots will start having arguments with their own internal processing.

Queens Of The Stone Age – In Times New Roman… | Album Review

A sludgier version of Queens Of The Stone Age. This was much grittier than I was expecting. The amount of sludge and grit defines In Times New Roman from the opening of Obscenery to the nine-minute Straight Jacket Fitting. Overall it works with the many grooves that run through the album. The issue is that it’ll take a few listens for the flow to sink in. Getting through some of the tracks and endless slow jamming causes things to blend, but the guitar work is creative with different effects. In Times New Roman… feels appropriate for long-time Queens fans who have grown with the band. I’m not sure it’ll win new fans over but it should satisfy fans who want some sludgy new times. 7/10.

Life Is But A Dream… by Avenged Sevenfold

Queens of the Stone Age (commonly abbreviated as QOTSA) is an American rock band formed in 1996 in Seattle, Washington. The band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme, who has been the only constant member throughout multiple lineup changes. Since 2013, the lineup has consisted of Homme alongside Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, lap steel, keyboard, percussion, backing vocals), Michael Shuman (bass guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), Dean Fertita (keyboards, guitar, percussion, backing vocals), and Jon Theodore (drums, percussion). The band also has a large pool of contributors and collaborators. Queens of the Stone Age are known for their blues, Krautrock and electronica-influenced style of riff-oriented and rhythmic hard rock music, coupled with Homme’s distinct falsetto vocals and unorthodox guitar scales.

In Times New Roman… is the eighth studio album by American rock band Queens of the Stone Age, released on June 16, 2023, through Matador Records. It was announced in a video teaser on May 11, 2023, and is the band’s first album since Villains (2017). The announcement occurred alongside the release of the lead single, “Emotion Sickness”. The band will tour North America and Europe in support of the record.

From Google Bard:

“Rammstein is a German Neue Deutsche Härte band formed in Berlin in 1994. The band’s lineup—consisting of lead vocalist Till Lindemann, lead guitarist Richard Kruspe, rhythm guitarist Paul Landers, bassist Oliver Riedel, drummer Christoph Schneider, and keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz—has remained unchanged throughout their history, along with their approach to songwriting, which consists of Lindemann writing and singing the lyrics over instrumental pieces the rest of the band has completed beforehand.

Rammstein’s music is characterized by its heavy use of electronic sounds, industrial beats, and distorted guitars. The band’s lyrics are often dark and provocative, dealing with themes of violence, sex, and religion. Rammstein’s live shows are known for their elaborate pyrotechnics and stage shows.

The band has released seven studio albums, all of which have been commercial successes. Their most successful album, Sehnsucht, was released in 1997 and has sold over 11 million copies worldwide. Rammstein have also released two live albums, one compilation album, and two video albums.

Rammstein have won numerous awards, including the MTV Europe Music Award for Best German Act, the World Music Award for World’s Best Selling German Artist, and the Echo Award for Best National Rock/Alternative Group. They have also been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.”

NOTHING MORE Announce “SPIRITS 2023” Fall Headlining U.S. Tour

Nothing More 2023

After pulverizing stages across North America on the first leg of their headlining “SPIRITS 2023” tour earlier this spring, including sold-out shows in NYC, Philadelphia, Sacramento and Toronto, 3x Grammy-nominated rockers NOTHING MORE will continue to bring their potent live experience to audiences throughout 2023. Following their return from headlining shows and festival appearances across Europe, NOTHING MORE will join fellow Top 10 rock acts Godsmack and Staind on their North American co-headlining trek from July 23 to August 31. Next, they’ll launch the second U.S. leg of their “SPIRITS 2023” headlining tour this fall with support from DEAD POET SOCIETY, HYRO THE HERO (rap-rocker and Better Noise Music labelmate), and POST PROFIT. Starting July 23 in Albany, NY at Empire Live, the produced by Live Nation tour will stretch across the South before making its final stop at The Fillmore Charlotte in Charlotte, NC on September 25. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 16 at 10:00 A.M. local time at https://nothingmore.net/. See below for a list of all upcoming shows.

On their new album SPIRITSNOTHING MORE combine unapologetically massive anthems, catchy hooks, and progressive music with introspective, philosophical lyrics and thought-provoking emotionalism. The album documents the tumultuous time the world experienced over the past two years, capturing the desperation and isolation of lockdown, the spiral of substance abuse, the pain of broken relationships, and survival in self-reliance. These concepts were further explored with the development of their very own meta-personality test, SPIRITS TEST, designed by frontman Jonny Hawkins—similar to tests such as Myers-Briggs, Big 5 and the Zodiac—which results in finding out one’s “Spirit Type,” one of seven personality characters based on the test’s results. The “Spirit Types” and their origin story are further detailed in the band’s first-ever graphic novel “SPIRITS VOL.1” out now via Z2 Comics

NOTHING MORE recently shared a new version of SPIRITS‘ heartfelt single “Best Times” featuring Lacey Sturm (Flyleaf). Watch the music video HERE

To coincide with the tour announcement, NOTHING MORE will drop a limited-edition reverse artwork translucent smoke variant vinyl version of SPIRITS along with a new “Fuse” SPIRIT TYPE t-shirt. These will be offered individually or bundled together with the “SPIRITS VOL.1” graphic novel, in addition to a limited number of hand-signed bundles being offered. See all the new merch options available at https://store.nothingmore.net/

Since its inception in 2015, the enigmatic ritual collective HEILUNG has been paving melodic paths to the past with their unique and mystifying sound. Evading all conventional genre tags and the confines of any specific labels, the group aptly self-describes their sound as “amplified history,” emphasizing their ability to connect modern society with the rudiments of humanity’s beginnings through music. HEILUNG once again journeys back in time with its new chapter, ‘Drif;’ however, unlike previous offerings that centered around prehistoric northern Europe, album number three will explore other great rudimentary civilizations outside of Europe.

“All the songs on ‘Drif’ have their own stories,” adds HEILUNG throat singer and one of the band’s three composers, Kai Uwe Faust. Each has its place and sense of belonging, with inspiration not only from Northern Europe, but from the ancient great civilizations,” explains the band. “We took the ancient surrounding advanced civilizations in account, because our ancestral Nordic civilizations did not just pop up, exist and disappear in isolation. Already in the Bronze Age, we found silk on German land that was imported already from the far, far East 3000 years ago. From the Viking age, we found beads that were brought there from present-day Syria high up in the Northern mountains.

“Centrally important concepts, still in extensive use today, like the number Zero and all the mathematical universes deriving from it, the use of iron and the general concept of settling all originate from traditional high civilizations outside the north and still fundamentally changing our ancestor’s world.

“With singing these primordial songs we want to give tribute to these cultures, reconnect to the beginnings and remember that we all, from East to West, from past to present, are connected through the exchange of ideas and inspiring each other.”
Meaning “gathering,” ‘Drif’ serves as more than merely a gateway that bridges history with modern day society, but is also a statement of the strength in unity and togetherness, which will come as no surprise to those who have experienced HEILUNG’s live ritual, in which every ceremony starts with a reminder that “we are all brothers.” “‘Drif’ means ‘gathering,’’ explains HEILUNG. “A throng of people, a horde, a crowd, a pack. In symbiosis with the album title, ‘Drif’ consists of a flock, a collection, a gathering, a collage of songs, that much like little flames were seeking towards each other, to join, to bond, to create, and be greater together.”

While HEILUNG features authentic and archaic instrumentation that ranges from rattles and ritual bells to human bones and throat singing, their captivating brand of music is far from primitive. Producer and founding member Christopher Juul implements subtle electronic elements that elevates the musical atmosphere and provides a more in-depth and layered soundscape.

“This album has very clearly dictated its own path. Our attempts to tame it were repeatedly fruitless, and once we came to this realization, the creative flow surged forward with immense force. So much so that sometimes it felt like the songs wrote themselves,” the band adds.

HEILUNG’s success has been unprecedented, achieving milestones in its few short years of existence that many do not see in a lifetime. The collective already had rapidly been growing a buzz upon the self-release of their first full-length, ‘Ofnir,’ in 2015, but their dizzying upward trajectory really took off from the moment they set foot on the stage at Castlefest in 2017 for the now-legendary debut of their live ritual. Luckily for those who were not fortunate enough to bare witness to this magical event, the full ceremony was captured on film, having since been viewed by tens of millions of fans across the globe.

As HEILUNG trekked across Europe and brought their mystifying experience to new audiences, talk of this new band and their stunning ceremony made way to Season of Mist label owner Michael Berberian, who quickly offered the band a record contract after seeing their undeniable musical impact for himself.

By 2019, HEILUNG launched their second full-length record, ‘Futha,’ which contrasted the masculine and battle-heavy themes of their debut with a feminine counterpart that celebrated fertility and female energy. Upon the first week of the record’s release, it graced the Billboard charts with coveted numbers, debuting at #3 on the Heatseekers Charts and #4 on the Billboard World Music Chart, placing on a total of seven Billboard charts while meeting critical-acclaim from the press on a global scale.

Having already made its way around Europe, HEILUNG announced its first ever North American tour for the start of 2020, which sold out entirely within 72 hours of ticket on-sale. The band later returned to the United States and performed their live ritual for a sold out audience of 10,000 people at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, CO (USA), further solidifying their early legacy status.

By this time, the band’s music started to appear in places outside the confines of music venues, videos, and vinyl. From hit television series like ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Vikings’ to video game giants like ‘Conqueror’s Blade VII: “Wolves of Ragnarök’ and ‘Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II’ to the blockbuster Robert Eggers film ‘The Northman,’ HEILUNG’s music has risen far above the underground and has transcended into a greater world. Even a global pandemic couldn’t slow down HEILUNG’s success; it only strengthened them and gave them the gift of time to complete work on album number three, ‘Drif.’

According to Greek philosopher Pythagoras, three is a divine number, signifying harmony, wisdom, and understanding. He also believed it to be the number of time – past, present, future; birth, life, death; beginning, middle, end. Purposefully or not, ‘Drif’ embodies this philosophy, putting forth a divine work of art that ties together the beginning of civilization with the modern world today. Make no mistake, HEILUNG still does not represent any modern political or religious ideology, but rather delivers a humbling reminder of where we came from. “Remember, we are all brothers. All people, beasts, tree and stone and wind, we all descend from the one great being that was always there, before people lived and named it, before the first seed sprouted.”

Touring Now: Bonnaroo on Friday, Lollapalooza,
EU / UK This Summer + U.S. This Fall

Knocked Loose strike again with their visionary new Upon Loss singles – “Deep in the Willow” / “Everything is Quiet Now” – which are streaming now alongside its video directed by Eric Richter and front man/vocalist Bryan Garris

“‘Deep in the Willow’ and ‘Everything is Quiet Now’ are a reminder that we are heavy, intense, and extreme,” Garris tells. “Some elements come and go, but those will never change. After ‘A Tear in the Fabric of Life’ we were inspired to see how much art we could incorporate moving forward – which led us to a style of video we’ve never attempted or approached. Taking myself specifically far outside of my comfort zone and pushing the boundaries on how I’ve been seen in the past was a creative experience I will never forget. This video wouldn’t be what it is without the collaboration with Eric Richter, someone we’ve admired for a while. And the songs wouldn’t be what they are without [producer] Drew Fulk, a new friend and creative ear in the entire process.”

The Upon Loss singles, “Deep in the Willow” / “Everything is Quiet Now”, are available across digital retailers today via Pure NoiseUpon Loss will be released on 10” vinyl format. For more info and to pre-order, go here (link live at 10:30AM ET).

Knocked Loose “Deep In The Willow / Everything Is Quiet Now”

“Deep in the Willow” / “Everything is Quiet Now” are the first new singles since the release of their 2021 EP and head turning short film, A Tear in the Fabric of Life. The release garnered worldwide acclaim from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR, The Needle Drop, The Guardian, The FADER, Stereogum, Decibel, Revolver, so on and established Knocked Loose as a staple across modern punk, hardcore and metal scenes. They have since continued to toured rigourously including sold out international runs and sold out stadium tours with Suicide Boys, JPEGMafia and Bring Me the Horizon.

Earlier this year, they stunned Coachella goers with their unforgettable performance which claimed the biggest circle pit in the festival’s history. They continue to hit the major festival circuit this year and are set to play Bonnaroo this Friday and Lollapalooza come August. They hit the UK and EU this Summer and return to North America for another extensive U.S. run across. See below for a full list of dates – tickets and more info are available here.

New England Metal & Hardcore Fest launched back in 1999 and took place at the famed Palladium in Worcester through 2018. It was always a “who’s who” of the metal and hardcore scene and was a “not to be missed” event each Spring.

The event returns as a two-day extravaganza on September 15 and 16. Parkway Drive and Lamb of God will serve as headliners, with an incredible roster of bands gracing three stages — two outside stages and the main room.

Festival founder Scott Lee returns to the fold, working with MassConcerts to make this year’s New England Metal & Hardcore Fest the best ever!
