Better Lovers (The Dillinger Escape Plan/Every Time I Die) Release New EP

Better Lovers

Better Lovers, the newly formed band featuring Jordan Buckley, Clayton “Goose” Holyoak, Stephen Micciche, Greg Puciato, and Will Putney, have released God Made Me An Animal, a four-song EP, via SharpTone Records.

“Surprise! Our debut EP, God Made Me An Animal, is out now,” the band shared, collectively. “Four eclectic and wildly fun songs we’ve been kicking around for what feels like forever, it’s great to finally have these out in the world. Let it happen to you. Hear all this and more on tour all Summer. The engine is turned on.”

The EP arrives as Better Lovers are about to embark on their inaugural tour, a mix of both headlining dates, with several already sold out, and performances with Underoath. The tour begins in Buffalo, N.Y., the hometown of Buckley, Holyoak and Micciche, on July 13.

God Made Me An Animal follows the April release of the outfit’s debut single, “13 Over 30,” and its accompanying video (https://youtu.be/TU-nwWuyKXc). The track, which was the first news of the band’s existence, jolted fans and critics alike. Consequence said “Better Lovers signaled their arrival with a crushing banger of the highest order,” Alternative Press dubbed the song as “ripping,” Kerrang! described the release as “ferocious,” and Revolver added that the track “delivers on the group’s pedigree, offering up all the scabrous screams, mathcore riffery and rawk grooves fans could hope for.”

“Looking back, I’m so happy everything got me to where I am,” said Buckley at the time of the song’s release. “The pandemic and the last few years made me hungrier and more grateful. This isn’t a hobby. This isn’t temporary. This is the next evolution for each of us. Greg and Will rejuvenated me and made me even more confident. Now, everybody needs to know we’re a wild animal that just broke out of the zoo—there’s no trying to put it back in the cage.”

God Made Me An Animal, which was produced and mixed by Putney with vocal production handled by Josh Wilbur, is streaming now, with physical pre-orders, including several limited-edition vinyl variants and CD, are available here: https://bfan.link/god-made-me-an-animal.

Carnifex Announce New Album “Necromanteum”

Carnifex

Nourished by nightmares and the throbbing pulse of pragmatic terror, CARNIFEX have returned with their ninth full-length studio album, Necromanteum, out October 6th via Nuclear Blast Records. After existing as a band for over 18 years, CARNIFEX continue to experiment with fresh song arrangements, and adding a unique sense of atmosphere to their inherently deathcore foundation.

Decades ago, wealthy intellectuals began installing psychomanteum in their homes; a secret room completely filled with mirrors, or a single mirror, and in complete darkness, in order to speak to the dead in other dimensions, and gain their knowledge. It was often used as a healing tool to help dissolve grief, or considered a form of prophecy. Necromanteum presents the concept: what if you could use that kind of room to speak with death, itself? What secrets of the world could you uncover from a direct conversation with the grim reaper? Not a monster, but a fellow intellect.

Today, the band releases the title track ‘Necromanteum’ which broaches on these existential topics. Watch the music video directed by Jim Louvau and Tony Aguilera.

CARNIFEX‘s Scott Ian Lewis comments, “Necromanteum is a truly special album that all of us in the band already love. Spend some time in conversation with the other side of life, enter the Necromanteum

Stream the new single ‘Necromanteum‘, here: https://carnifex.bfan.link/necromanteum-single

Watch the music video for ‘Necromanteum‘, here:

The recording process took place over the course of several weeks with producer Jason Suecof in Florida, and saw the return of live drums since COVID-19 restrictions made doing so on Graveside Confessions impossible. Mastered by Mark Lewis in Nashville, TN, the album was also co-produced by vocalist Scott Ian Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron. The cover artwork glows with an emerald and lavender fog; a ghostly energy erupting from the depths of a cemetery. Designed by renowned comic book artist E.M. Gist, this gateway represents the questions we ask about what lies on the other side of reality.

Below is the Necromanteum track listing:
1. Torn In Two
2. Death’s Forgotten Children
3. Necromanteum
4. Crowned In Everblack
5. The Pathless Forest
6. How The Knife Gets Twisted
7. Architect Of Misanthropy
8. Infinite Night Terror
9. Bleed More
10. Heaven And Hell All At Once

Top 10 WORST Metal Fanbases (from Google Bard)

Metal fanbases can be intense, but which band has the worst? We asked AI and received a list of the Top 10 WORST Metal Fanbases (from Google Bard).

Metal fans. They can be passionate, loyal, aggressive, tribal, annoying, supportive, well-informed, misinformed, and at times unwashed. And that’s just in general, overarching terms. When you look at individual fanbases of metal bands, you discover a lot of unique qualities. Unique is a nice way to say it.

I hopped on Google Bard and typed: List off the top 10 worst fanbases of metal bands and give reasoning. Bardy got vicious, descriptive, repetitive, and confusing, but he gave his list. Click below to watch.

Top 10 WORST Metal Fanbases (from Google Bard)

No band has a perfect fanbase, that especially goes for metal bands. The bigger a band gets, the more likely it’ll attract an occasional psychopath or weirdo. It’s when a band is known for having problematic fans that a group may want to step back and say “Maybe we should address how some fans are awful, so it shapes up the rest of them.”

3TEETH Announces New Album “EndEx” Out Sept 22

3TEETH

Four years after the release of their last full-length album and with several teases of new music unleashed the past few months, 3TEETH is now sharing all the details behind their much-anticipated LP EndEx coming this fall.

EndEx will be released by Century Media Records on September 22, showcasing the modern industrial act at their most raucous yet, unveiling bold revelations of humanity’s technosocial disintegration behind a brutal soundtrack that sounds all the alarms.

After giving the first glimpse at the new material with the early release of “Paralyze” (featuring Ho99o9)3TEETH re-emerged in May with more previews, including their gripping sonic salvo, “Merchant of the Void” that touches on the bleak landscape of modern society amid A.I. takeovers and economic collapse.

It was hailed as a one of the “best new songs” by Metal Hammer and Revolver. While Metal Hammer says the song “traces lineage in both Al Jourgensen and Trent Reznor,” Revolver hails the song as “utterly gigantic and over-the-top in the best way possible” and applauds the return of 3TEETH in 2023 at a time “when we needed their apocalyptic, incendiary industrial-metal most.”

Next came “Slum Planet” taking aim at the ills of a sick planet obsessed with over-consumption at all costs. With today’s album announcement, 3TEETH shares the newest single for the moody missive “Scorpion,” a track in which the band’s instrumental arsenal is tempered by alluring female vocal chants that provide an ambient feel. It’s featured alongside a combustible video, with the band excavating deep desert secrets. It was helmed by director Vicente Cordero & 3TEETH frontman and creative lead Alexis Mincolla.

Says Mincolla, “The scorpion symbolizes the challenge to confront and integrate those parts of ourselves that we repress, ignore, or fear. It invites a descent into the depths of the personal and collective unconscious. Its venom is the entropic catalyst for the dissolution of old, rigid structures of the psyche, making room for rebirth. To acknowledge and embrace the scorpion is to accept the necessity of change.”

See the video for “Scorpion” here: https://youtu.be/P5LlUe-lKRQ

Ahead of the release of EndEx in late September, 3TEETH will continue to release a new single every month. Other highlights on the album include a cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” continuing 3TEETH’s penchant for aggressive reworks of pop songs, previously seen on Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks,” Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz” and Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record).”

To lay the foundation for the new material, 3TEETH migrated to the deserted quiet of Joshua Tree, escaping from the palpable anxiety of their hometown of Los Angeles for fresh new perspective. The material is currently being wrapped up with a solid extended team including the accomplished sound designer Mick Gordon (best known for his work on the gaming phenomenon DOOM) who produced several of the tracks along with producer Nick Rowe and mixer Sean Beavan (NIN), bringing in another dimension to the band’s unmistakable sound.

Says Gordon, “3TEETH are one of my favorite acts. They proudly fly their own unique flag. The new album charts course through the next stage of our vanity-led evolution as a species, and by that I mean the album is a world unto itself. I’m just stoked that these guys have allowed me along for the ride.”

EndEx will be available in CD, Gatefold LP, and digital album formats. Special formats include:

  • Red LP (available at all EU outlets)
  • Red Smoke LP (available at all US outlets)
  • Utra-Clear / Red Splatter LP (available from 3TEETH)
  • Utra-Clear / Red Splatter LP (available from Revolver)

Dayseeker are a quiet killer. The band has steadily built a buzz over the past several years — and they have reached a tipping point. Dayseeker built themselves into a scene standout with 2019’s Sleeptalk, which was hailed by Alternative Press as  “a warm and welcome release to higher ground” and as “much needed fresh air into the post-hardcore scene.” The album has gone on to accumulate over XX million streams, and it positioned the band as a formidable force — and one that is primed to take its next big leap. In 2021, the band dropped a deluxe version of Sleeptalk, featuring four reimagined versions of album tracks, which offered fans a fresh and unique take on songs they already love. It also demonstrated the depth and breadth of the band’s creative vision, scope, and possibilities. However, Dark Sun catapulted the band beyond the scene’s stratosphere. The album is out now via Spinefarm.

From Google Bard:

“Corey Todd Taylor is an American musician, songwriter, and actor. He is best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist of the heavy metal band Slipknot, in which he is designated #8, as well as the lead vocalist, guitarist, lyricist, and sole continuous member for the rock band Stone Sour.

Taylor was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 8, 1973. He began playing guitar and singing at a young age, and was influenced by a wide range of music, including rock, heavy metal, and blues. In 1992, he co-founded Stone Sour with drummer Joel Ekman. The band released their debut album, Stone Sour, in 1994.

In 1997, Taylor was invited to join Slipknot, who were looking for a new vocalist after their original singer, Anders Colsefni, left the band. Taylor accepted the invitation and has been with Slipknot ever since. The band has released seven studio albums, all of which have been commercial successes.

In addition to his work with Slipknot and Stone Sour, Taylor has also released several solo albums, including “CMFT” (2020) and “CMFT 2” (2022). He has also collaborated with a number of other artists, including Rob Zombie, Ozzy Osbourne, and Tech N9ne.

Dwellings – Little Garden | Album Review

Dwellings Little Garden Album Review

The progressive side of post-hardcore has evolved from a niche subgenre to a sensation worth deep-diving – and 2023 is no different. Whether it’s Properties of Nature and Aluxes teaming up or AnimalJam re-releasing their EP, it’s thrilling experiencing an unpredictable, complex sound that entices the listener without knowing what comes next at any given moment. That’s why I’ve kept my eye close to Dwellings, a Sacramento, California act so meticulous in their songwriting and fine-tuned in their execution that I’ve considered this release a top-3 anticipated for the entire year. Now that Little Garden is finally here 5 years removed from Lavender Town, does this Tragic Hero follow-up warrant the hype I’ve been experiencing with 3 delectable singles?

Dwellings catches many ears with their eclectic flair and grandiose presentation – it’s what set them apart from the pack in 2018’s Lavender Town. While vocalist Isaac Wilson carries a majestic, commanding vocal delivery, the instrumentation from this group cannot be understated.
The grooves from guitarists Erik Tilja and Marx Xyooj synergize melodies that complement the rest of the band, whilst bassist Marco Loarca is prominent in the mix and drummer Thomas Reilly exudes raw talent. Dwellings brought 3 singles to the forefront for Little Garden, all creating different vibes for a great mixed-bag offering of what the band is capable of. I was compelled to see Little Garden both opening and closing with singles, as bands are meticulous with their song placement on records; stylistically, these make sense, as “Devices” opens in such a fervor, whereas “Waypoints” is definitive and can wrap the bow on Little Garden.

The immediate attention-grabber in Little Garden is the track “Redd” – a song encompassing the dastardly scammer fox in Animal Crossing. While Periphery took on “Hades” and Wvnder made a rendition for “Dark Souls”, this game-themed offering is a delight for fans of the franchise. What makes this one so special, though, is its biting commentary on Redd’s debauchery can be applied in listener’s heads to anyone that is deceitful or a bother. Another solid deep cut is “Gold Leaf”, sounding almost theatrical in nature akin to Get Scared or The Used.
Sometimes a band’s best work is in their non-singles, and Dwellings keeps this consistency throughout Little Garden – no filler to report here.

One of my favorite things about Dwellings is they can take a lyrical phrase and stretch it across a whole song without wearing it out. In “It’s All There”, it’s the line “highway robbery”, whereas in “Waypoints” it’s “visual stimulation” – these few words are what gets stuck in my head after listening. Isaac has such a prowess in structuring these themes that the repetition should be annoying, but it never is; it’s somehow the most endearing part of singing along to a Dwellings song. Merely holding on to a note isn’t in his repertoire, either – it’s fascinating hearing just how many ways Isaac can bend a word and make it an earworm. Further, it’s wild that the accompanying guitars/drum/bass are so in-sync with the vocals, whilst being frenetic, groovy, and intuitive – succinct tempo-changes gave me goosebumps on first spin.

Little Garden is just what I wanted in a new Dwellings album – more of what made Lavender Town and “Pick Up Before You Go” such an enjoyable listen. It might not take many risks, but it doesn’t need to when Dwellings have settled into their signature sound so concisely. Throw Little Garden on shuffle, and you’ll get a fresh interpretation of post-hardcore no matter what comes next – that’s the range Dwellings brings to the table. At the exact halfway point for the year, it’s going to sit in my rotation comfortably for the rest of 2023.
