Caskets Share “Believe” Video

Caskets

Yorkshire melodic metallers Caskets, who recently announced their new album Reflections for an August 11 release on SharpTone Records, have released the video for the empowering new single “Believe.” Watch the video here.

Speaking of the track, frontman Matt Flood says, “‘Believe’ is a song about realizing and recognizing your own worth. It’s about letting go of the toxicity in your life and making that step forward. Believe in yourself and the choices you’re making. Even if the path doesn’t seem clear right now, they’ll get you where you want to be.”

There’s an art to looking back.

For Caskets, it could have been easy to plough forwards regardless, riding the wave of success from their breakthrough debut Lost Souls (over 80 million streams to date), that opened tours up across the United States and mainland Europe, and secured appearances at landmark festivals Download and Slam Dunk. But having swapped the bedrooms that fostered album number one for countless hours on the road, reflecting on that journey and the decisions that led them down certain paths quickly became unavoidable.

If Lost Souls was primarily driven by Flood’s personal experiences, Reflections delivers a wider picture of Caskets as a whole, borne out of the usual interpersonal differences that all bands face at least once in their career. For some it marks the end; but for others, it fosters a collaborative environment that pushes the music well beyond what has come before.

The result reflects each individual member of Caskets, with Flood joined by guitarists Benji Wilson and Craig Robinson, bassist Chris McIntosh, and drummer James Lazenby. The record has more upbeat moments that carry impactful melodies, upping the ante from Lost Souls with considered force, while the powerful ambient moments play out with real finesse.

In a step away from the singular retellings of Lost Souls, the Dan Weller (Bury Tomorrow, Enter Shikari, Holding Absence)-produced Reflections is a series of individual lessons, looking back at a specific moment in one of the band member’s lives; a thought, feeling, or events, and how that moment shaped the present.

Reflections shows how much more we can get out of the band musically if we all put our heads together a bit more,” Flood beams, positive about a record that not only showcases Caskets as a full entity but represents the impressive range of influences that have soundtracked the five piece’s times on the road and in the studio, helping to rapidly expand their sound. “It’s always about the music, that’s the whole point of being in a band,” he concludes. “If we can fit as much into our sound but it still sounds like us, that’s my lifelong goal with Caskets.”

Spanish Love Songs Release “Pendulum” From New Album

SPANISH LOVE SONGS, have released a third new single “Pendulum” from their upcoming album ‘No Joy’ out August 25 via Pure Noise Records. Fans can now stream and watch the music video for “Pendulum” now.

Spanish Love Songs “Pendulum”

Going more in depth on the lyrics of the song vocalist and guitarist Dylan Slocum of Spanish Love Songs explains about “Pendulum”, “The song is a few different stories blended together that all dance around the fact that death is such a solitary act. The details of the stories are meant to feel vaguely familiar — someone on the verge of dying alone in a hospital; someone with dementia; countless friends who’ve decided to end it on their own terms. We’ve all lost someone.

Slocum continues “I think people generally don’t want to be left alone, or to die alone, yet that’s often all we’re left with. It’s all very terrifying, so a lot of the time I’m just trying to be present and enjoy what I’ve managed to scrape together. I wait for the pendulum of my worry to swing the other way, into some form of manic love.”

The new video was directed by Hannah Gray Hall, who was also behind the camera for the music video for the lead single “Haunted”. Watch the music video for “Pendulum” now on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/S5JbWqXJN7E

Recently hailed as “one of the summer’s most anticipated albums” from Brooklyn Vegan, ‘No Joy’ will be released in full on August 25, 2023 and is available for pre-order at this link: https://lnk.to/SpanishLoveSongs. Previously released tracks “Haunted” and “Clean-Up Crew” can be streamed on all platforms now: https://lnk.to/SLS_Music

Brimming with new wave pastiche, fluttering synths, shimmering walls of chorus guitar, and four-on-the-floor rhythms, ‘No Joy’ isn’t an exclamation point follow-up to the emotional catharsis of the landmark ‘Brave Faces Everyone’ as much as it is an exhale – the sound of vocalist and guitarist Dylan Slocum, his wife and keyboardist Meredith Van Woert, guitarist Kyle McAulay, bassist Trevor Dietrich, and drummer Ruben Duarte finding peace in quieter moments and embracing the negative space.

Produced by the band and Collin Pastore (Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker, Illuminati Hotties) and mixed by Carlos de la Garza (Paramore, M83, Best Coast), the 12 songs on ‘No Joy’ continue to find Spanish Love Songs grappling with the messiness of what it means to be alive in the modern age – unsure of the answers themselves but confident that together, we can all come a little closer to the solutions.

‘Brave Faces Everyone’ was about mustering up the strength to barely break even in an increasingly bleak world, ‘No Joy’ is finding the internal peace required to stay in the black. As Slocum says, “it’s an album about finding happiness in what you have and your current moment. It might be your best moment, or it might not, but you have to find joy in it.”

10 MORE Extremely Misunderstood Songs

Some of the best songs in music have not gotten the meaning across. Following the previous video, this is a look at 10 MORE Extremely Misunderstood songs.

There are many misunderstood songs out there and this is the second look at the topic, with most of these entries being suggestions from comments in the first video. I stand by that artists and musicians shouldn’t have to have Shakespeare liners where it explains what is going on with lyrics, but when a song is known mainly for the wrong meaning, it’s time for someone to step in.

Gunship Announce New Album “Unicorn”

Gunship

Synthwave pioneers GUNSHIP — comprised of Dan HaighAlex Westaway, and Alex Gingell — invite listeners to celebrate the power of imagination on their new album Unicorn, out September 29. Pre-order it here.

Gunship invites their listeners to celebrate the power of imagination on Unicorn. Named after the international icon of fantasy and imagination, it’s emblazoned with the tagline “Imagination Is A Weapon.” The trio’s trademark, synth-laden atmosphere and transportative soundscapes have continued to evolve to include more rock, industrial, and EDM influences, and allow the listener to revel in an alternative reality on a 14-track electric thrill ride.

Unicorn boasts a diverse array of special guests, who each bring something different to the project. Collaborators include John Carpenter, Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Carpenter Brut, Timmy Cappello (Lost Boys, Tina Turner, Ringo Starr), Health, Tyler Bates (John Wick, Guardians of the Galaxy etc), Lights, Power Glove, Charlie Simpson, Britta Philips (Jem), and Milkie Way (Wargasm).

Today, the band share the first song from the much-anticipated third album, cyberpunk track “Monster in Paradise,” where they are joined by a host of hard-hitting collaborators including the saxman Tim Cappello, electro-punk artist Milkie Way, film composer and guitarist Tyler Bates and Slayer’s legendary drummer Dave Lombardo. Here, Gunship continue to evolve the synthwave genre into exciting new directions.

Stream the track here. Watch the video here.

Priding themselves in being accomplished audio-visual artists, the band also unleash the neon-lit music video for “Monster in Paradise.” The visual sees the cinematic worlds of Blade Runner and The Terminator collide amidst a sprawling dystopian metropolis, and stars two of the song’s collaborators, Milkie Way and Timmy Cappello. The dreamscape sees darkness converge with laser light in a vision of the not-so-far future, replete with towering skyscrapers, flying vehicles, and shimmering holographic displays which work together to create a vivid backdrop for the adrenaline-fueled cyberpunk rock spectacle.

Perhaps the star of the video, Milkie Way (the fiery frontwoman of Wargasm) pays homage to the indomitable Sarah Connor from The Terminatorfilms. Driving Sarah’s classic 1983 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade and providing a Terminator-style voiceover, Milkie initially appears to be giving a performance true to Sarah Connor’s character, although perhaps things are not quite as they seem…

…Are the machines recruiting humans with a mind-altering silver liquid?

“Gunship, Timmy Capello, and Dave Lombardo is truly a match made in heaven and I’m so happy to be included in this beautiful maelstrom of synth-metal perfection,” says Milkie Way.

What would it be like to attend a rock show in a dystopian cyberpunk world? Discover and watch the video here

Prepare to be transported to a world where darkness collides with neon brilliance.

Thy Art Is Murder Share “Keres” Video

Thy Art is Murder

Australia’s extreme metal titans Thy Art Is Murder have released their storming new single, “Keres,” the second taste of new music lifted from the band’s forthcoming album, Godlike, out September 15 via Human Warfare. Pre-order Godlike here.

A stadium-sized death metal anthem, “Keres” has it all: bone crushing verses, colossal stomping choruses, an urgent guitar solo, and frontman CJ McMahon‘s vocals demolishing all in his wake as he rams that hook straight into your brain.

“Keres” is an absolute standout in the Thy Art Is Murder collection and guitarist Andy Marsh explains why the band can’t wait to get it out there.

“It’s not often we have this level of excitement to present a new single to the world,” Marsh states. “‘Keres’ is a metal anthem filled with grinding verses and stomping choruses, stripping down some of the complexity that may have gotten in the way of previous attempts to deliver a song of this magnitude. The Keres was an evil sprite in ancient Greek mythology that would feed on the dead, but could not participate in acts of violence. We think this behavior is as relevant in the arena of news and politics as it was on those ancient battlefields.”

Thy Art Is Murder ascended the ranks of extreme metal’s top-tier bands with a meteoric underground rise as explosive as humankind’s seemingly inevitable descent into doom and death. With their new album, Godlike, Australia’s most harrowingly brutal export since George Miller’s Mad Max franchise invites audiences worldwide to join them in a fresh Armageddon.

The sixth explosive album in the band’s arsenal, Godlike cements Thy Art Is Murder as death metal’s modern torchbearers. A soundtrack to a divisive post-modern dystopia, Godlike sees Thy Art Is Murder explore new depths and dynamics without sacrificing an ounce of intensity or urgency the band have staked their career on.

Recorded with their longtime producer and mixer, Will Putney, across the album’s 10 nihilistic tracks Thy Art are masters of their craft as they deliver sharp stabs, guttural descents and groove with muscular athleticism and confidence. Frontman CJ McMahon gives his strongest performance ever as he belts through lyrics that thematically confront how cycles of violence continue over time and feelings of separation in a hyper-polarized world.

Thy Art Is Murder’s thinking-person’s blackened death metal has challenged, provoked and inspired audiences around the world. Through relentless hard work, Thy Art have become one of the most successful extreme metal bands Australia has ever produced, making history on their own terms. Backed by an uncompromising discography, the two-time ARIA-Award nominees have smashed chart records in their native country, becoming the first homegrown extreme metal act to debut in the Top 5 with 2017’s Dear Desolation.

Their electrifying and incendiary performances have seen the band do countless laps of the globe, becoming tourmates with genre-titans like Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Kreator, Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage, and Parkway Drive, alongside playing crucial festivals like Summer Breeze, Download, Graspop, and Wacken.

Join Thy Art Is Murder when they enter Godlike mode this coming September.

Better Lovers – God Made Me An Animal | Album Review

If you have missed The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, etc, Better Lovers will satisfy that hole in your life. This is the perfect blend with fluid transitions is aggressive heavy music. Greg sounds fantastic, the guitar work across the EP is creative and hook filled, at no point is the gas let up. God Made Me An Animal is the best example of many subgenres thrown into a blender and the results are smooth and easy to take in. At just over 15 minutes, the only problem with this EP is that it desperately makes you want more. Better Lovers is an animal and he’s a good boy. 9/10

Better Lovers “30 Under 13”
10 EXTREMELY Misunderstood Songs

___

From Google Bard: “Creed was an American rock band from Tallahassee, Florida, that was prominent in the post-grunge movement of the mid-1990s. The band consisted of lead vocalist Scott Stapp, guitarist and vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips.

Creed released three consecutive multi-platinum albums, with their album Human Clay being certified diamond. They have sold over 50 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling rock bands of all time.

The band’s music was characterized by its heavy guitar riffs, soaring vocals, and introspective lyrics. Their songs often dealt with themes of faith, redemption, and personal struggle.

Creed broke up in 2004, but reunited in 2009 for a fourth album, Full Circle. They toured until 2012, when they disbanded again.”
