Horrendous Release “Cult Of Shaad’oah”, Announce 2023 Tour

Philly’s filthiest and finest progressive death metal band already gave us a glimpse at their new album. Now, HORRENDOUS are leading us deeper inside ‘Ontological Mysterium’ with “Cult of Shaad’oah”.

“Beat me back, but I’ll keep on climbing!” That’s how the band kicks off the album’s second single. They’re so eager to crack skulls that they’re practically foaming at the mouth.

Prepare for brutal ascent, indeed. “Cult of Shaad’oah” is a blazing onslaught of bombastic, old-school death metal. It sounds like carving your way up Mount Doom with the evil sword from Soulcaliber. Cymbals crash and ping, while dueling leads race toward a fiery death.

Here’s what the band has to say about “Cult of Shaad’oah”: “This song is a symbolic quest through the wastes of doubt and slumbering awareness. Its nameless hero ascends from the underworld to the heights of the gods, daring to penetrate the outer reaches of the universe itself and become master of all”.

Horrendous “Cult Of Shaad’oah”

‘Ontological Mysterium’ will be released on August 18, 2023 by Season of Mist.

Life Is But A Dream… from Avenged Sevenfold

“Surprises always come up during writing — spontaneous ideas pull you into new territory and enable the realization of novel possibilities that previously were inaccessible.”

Such are the words from Horrendous drummer Jamie Knox when discussing the creation of the band’s fifth full-length, the highly anticipated ‘Ontological Mysterium’. Knox’s quote also encapsulates Horrendous’s approach to extreme metal. Since 2009, the band has capably tapped into the inaccessible by providing a fresh, unconventional take on death metal that harnesses technical brilliance with elaborate, mind-melding melodies, frothy, spewing vocals and labyrinthine song structures. This combination has made each Horrendous long play a clinic in the gratifyingly unorthodox. The trend continues on Ontological Mysterium.

The follow-up to 2018’s Idol was recorded, mixed and mastered at Subterranean Watchtower Studios in Virginia, which doubles as the homestead of guitarist/vocalist Damian Herring. While the band (completed by guitarist/vocalist Matt Knox and bassist Alex Kulick) finished much of the songwriting for Ontological Mysterium in 2019, its recording was delayed by the 2020 global pandemic and various life events. Horrendous eventually finished recording in early 2022 and mastered the album before the start of 2023.

The album upholds Horrendous’s position as one of the underground’s best outside-of-the-box extreme metal bands. Having long abandoned concern whether people would appreciate their “uniqueness,” Horrendous has embraced its role as a band willing to veer far from death metal conventions, intentionally stretching and breaking norms. To wit, the band primarily views its music as filtered through a death metal lens. This may be Horrendous’s defining trait: By not accepting parameters, nothing is off-limits.

Lineup:
Damian Herring – Guitar, Vocals
Matt Knox – Guitar, Vocals
Alex Kulick – Bass
Jamie Knox – Drums

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in its early years, the band settled on nine members for more than a decade: Crahan, Jordison, Gray, Craig JonesMick ThomsonCorey TaylorSid WilsonChris Fehn, and Jim Root. Bassist Gray died on May 24, 2010, and was replaced during 2011–2014 by Donnie Steele. Jordison was dismissed from the band on December 12, 2013. Steele left during the recording sessions for .5: The Gray Chapter. The band found replacements in Alessandro Venturella on bass and Jay Weinberg on drums. After the departure of Jordison, as of December 2013 the only founding member in the current lineup is percussionist Crahan. Fehn was also dismissed from the band in March 2019 prior to the writing of We Are Not Your Kind and was replaced by Michael Pfaff. The band parted ways with Jones in 2023.

Anberlin Share Immense New Single + Video “Lacerate”

Today, Anberlin announce their new EP, Convinced, set for release June 30th on Equal Vision Records. Celebrating 21 years as a band, Anberlin continue to expand their sonic palette, offering a sound that will captivate new and old fans alike. New single “Lacerate,” out now, builds on an electronic beat that leads into an immense full band dynamic. The rhythms combine into a stadium-ready breakdown at 1:55, highlighted by thick guitars, pulsating drums, and scream-sung backing vocals. The cinematic video for “Lacerate” thrives off the emotional push and pull of the song and can be viewed here now.

Diving into the lyrics of “Lacerate,” vocalist Stephen Christian stated:

“Lacerate is about a toxic and dysfunctional relationship; it’s about feeling trapped and existing only to hear negative things from the person you’re with; it’s a song about disillusionment, longing for release, and the conflicting emotions that come with a troubled relationship.”

Convinced follows Anberlin’s 2022 EP, Silverline, which marked the band’s first new music in eight years. On Convinced, high-powered alternative rock meets a new wave influence to create a correspondence of light and dark moods. Entering Feral Sound Studios in Tampa, FL, the band self-produced the EP alongside help from friends Tim McTague (of Underoath), Chad Carouthers, and JJ Revell.

Anberlin will hit the road for a run of dates supporting Yellowcard this July, alongside planned appearances at two dates of the Is For Lovers festival and at Furnace Fest in September. Full schedule below.

Formed in 2002, Anberlin broke out with their debut album Blueprints for the Black Market just a year later, which gained notoriety from the success of the single “Readyfuels”. Sophomore release Never Take Friendship Personal (2005) saw the band jump to getting frequent airplay on alternative radio with tracks like “Paperthin Hymn”, and was followed by Cities in 2007. This led to their major label debut for the release of fourth album New Surrender, and the blazing success of hit single “Feel Good Drag”, which currently sits at over 113 million plays on Spotify alone. Riding high, the band entered a heavy touring schedule and went on to release Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place (2010) and Vital (2012). In 2014 Anberlin announced they would be breaking up, but not before releasing their seventh studio album Lowborn and giving fans a proper send off with an extensive farewell tour. Feeling rejuvenated, the band reformed in December 2018 and ramped up their touring schedule again soon after. Fast-forward to present day and Anberlin is playing lively shows to dedicated audiences and working on creating even more music to sing-along to.

Anberlin is Stephen Christian (vocals), Nate Young (drums), Deon Rexroat (bass), Joey Milligan (guitar), and Christian McAlhaney (guitar).

Convinced Tracklist:
1. Lacerate
2. Decoder
3. Banshee
4. Animals
5. Nothing More

Candlebox Announces Final Studio Album ‘The Long Goodbye’

Candlebox

Celebrating 30 years of success, Candlebox – whose power anthems “Far Behind, “You” and “Cover Me” off their 1993 debut, self-titled album exploded onto the charts – has revealed their final studio album, titled The Long Goodbye, will be released on Friday, August 25th via Round Hill Records. More details on the project coming soon. The news comes on the heels of the multi-platinum selling Seattle rock band gearing up to launch their final tour this weekend. Candlebox – Kevin Martin (lead vocals), Adam Kury (bass), Brian Quinn (guitar), Island Styles (guitar), BJ Kerwin (drums) – will be out on the road from June 10th through early fall crossing the country with fellow rockers 3 Doors Down as well as headlining shows as they say their final, and long, goodbye.

“Adam, BJ, Brian, Island and I are all super excited for everyone to hear this record,” shares front man Kevin Martin. “We pushed ourselves creatively as far as our hearts and souls would let us and created something that we’re incredibly excited about and very proud of. We can’t wait for the world to hear The Long Goodbye, the final chapter in a long and illustrious career for Candlebox. One last album on one last tour to wrap up 30 years of rock ‘n’ roll with a nice little bow.”

Following headlining shows in Evansville, Lexington and Pittsburgh this week, Candlebox joins 3 Doors Down as direct support on their 46-date Away From The Sun amphitheater tour on Wednesday, June 14th in Baltimore, which will take the two bands everywhere from Chicago, Detroit, Holmdel, Hartford, Sacramento, Costa Mesa, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver and Spokane to Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, Raleigh, Charleston, Charlotte, Kansas City, Little Rock, Jacksonville, Tampa, Austin, Dallas and Houston, among many other places. Additionally, Candlebox will headline venues all across the U.S. including West Hollywood (July 14 at the Troubadour), Long Island (June 29 at The Paramount), Cincinnati, Cleveland, Grand Rapids, Louisville, St. Louis, Richmond, and Tulsa. See below for full list of upcoming tour dates. Tickets are on sale now; visit https://www.candleboxrocks.com/tour for all details and to purchase.

The Long Goodbye follows the release of Candlebox’s live, acoustic album, Live at The Neptune, set for release on June 23rd via Pavement Records. PRESS HERE more info and to pre-order.

Emerging from Seattle’s burgeoning mid-90s grunge scene, Candlebox quickly found mainstream success with their deep, lyrically-driven melodies and big radio hooks, as evidenced by their massive hits Far Behind,” “You and Cover Me that propelled their self-titled debut album to sell more than 4 million copies worldwide. Their follow-up album, Lucy, earned a platinum certification and solidified Candlebox as a tour de force in the thriving alt-rock scene. While the commercial success of the first album played a pivotal role in the band’s trajectory to the top, it was their raw and unapologetically honest live performances that ultimately solidified their place among Seattle’s elite. In 1998, Candlebox released Happy Pills, which would be their last album before going on hiatus from 2000 to 2006. In 2008, the band reformed and released their fourth album, Into The Sun, and hit the road for the first time in 10 years, touring extensively and releasing Alive In Seattle, a live album that included tracks from every era of their career. 2016 marked the triumphant return of Candlebox with the release of Disappearing In Airportsa more classic rock-tinged album hailed by many critics and fans as their best work in years. Singles “Vexatious” and “Supernova” drove the album to debut at #9 on the Billboard Charts and spurred multiple U.S. and international tours including major festival appearances at Carolina Rebellion, Welcome To Rockville, and Lollapalooza Chile. While these iconic rockers have been blazing full-steam since, releasing their latest album, Wolves, in 2021, Candlebox is now wrapping up their long and illustrious 30-year career with The Long Goodbye.

TOOL Announce 2023 North America Tour Dates

Since the 2019 release of TOOL’s critically-acclaimed album, Fear Inoculum, the band has won a GRAMMY Award® (Best Metal Performance for “7empest”), completed sold-out tours of both the U.S. and Europe, and headlined Bonnaroo, Welcome to Rockville and the Sonic Temple Arts & Music Festival. TOOL marked the 30th anniversary of the Opiate EP with the 2022 release of “Opiate2,” a re-imagining of the EP’s title track, released in tandem with a breathtaking, 10-minute short film crafted by Adam Jones and visual artist Dominic Hailstone (“Alien: Covenant”, “The Eel”).

Reviews from TOOL’s sold-out 2022 tours praised the four-piece, with Loudwire dubbing the performances as “a masterclass of immersion, sound and stage design, musicianship… and levels of ungodly tightness.” The Austin Chronicle described the incomparable live experience as an “unbridled exchange of catharsis between performers and fans.” More recently, Revolver, covering Welcome to Rockville 2023, said “TOOL delivered a stunning… set featuring classic fan favorites, newer Fear Inoculum standouts and choice deeper cuts … the striking visuals also included a psychedelic laser and projections show bar none.”
