Greta Van Fleet Starcatcher 2024 Tour

Green Day, one of the most iconic punk rock bands of all time, is set to release their fourteenth studio album, Saviors, on January 19, 2024. The album is the band’s first since Kerplunk (1991) in which they own the copyright, although it is under an exclusive license to Reprise Records.

Saviors was recorded in London, England, and Los Angeles, California, and sees the band collaborating with producer Rob Cavallo for the first time since 2012. Cavallo is known for his work on some of Green Day’s most iconic albums, including Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004).

Green Day has released one single from Saviors so far, titled “The American Dream Is Killing Me.” The song is a scathing indictment of the current state of the United States, with Armstrong singing about the “greed and hate” that he sees all around him.” (from Google Bard)

Omar Rodríguez-López announces 57-LPs box set ‘AMOR DE FRANCES’

Omar Rodríguez-López

Only very few songwriters and arrangers have succeeded in leaving their mark on several generations with their compositions and their performances. Omar Rodríguez-López is one of these exceptional artists. His complete solo works from 2004-2024 will now be honored with an impressive vinyl box set.

Within 20 years, multi-instrumentalist and mastermind Omar Rodríguez-López released multiple solo records – on top of his works with The Mars Volta, At-The Drive In, Bosnian Rainbows, De Facto, and Antemasque. Pending somewhere between Jazz, Prog, Latin, Alternative, Electronica, and Classical Music, his music covers an impressively wide range of genres.

After celebrating the digital release of his entire oeuvre in May 2021, Rodríguez-López’ Hamburg-based label Clouds Hill now takes the next step: These solo records will be made physically available for the first time in a unique vinyl box set. 57 albums, including records that have only been digitally available until now, and also two previously unreleased records. The collection contains highlights like the collaborative record with John Frusciante, the chaotic but beloved “Cryptomnesia”, the more accessible “Solar Gambling” or a classic like the early “Se Dice Bisonte, No Bùfalo”.

The box set is limited to 500 copies and is only available via www.cloudshillshop.com.

Pre-order starts on October 30th, release will be on December 4thhttps://gtly.to/0DC4NcNty

Also, all records will be available for individual purchase in early 2024.

“Amor de Frances” comes in four individual, high-quality boxes in a classy design that work together as a whole: All 57 LPs of the box set combined with 2020’s “The Clouds Hill Tapes Pt. 1-3″, the spines eventually create the silhouette of Rodríguez-López himself.

All records in this extraordinary collection are pressed on black, recycled vinyl. Most of the cover artworks were recreated as close as possible to the original releases, but some of the records have also been given a completely new design at Omar’s personal request.

The encompassing box set with its four individual boxes, with colorfully designed banderoles, a set of nine art prints and 57 albums on 60 LPs will be available for 1.499€ / 1.599$.

Papa Roach Donates $150k to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Rock legends Papa Roach announced today that they have made a $150,000 donation to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) “Talk Away The Dark Campaign” which was presented at the Finale performance of “The Revolutions Live Tour” alongside touring partners Shinedown and Spiritbox and tour promoter Live Nation in Denver, CO. The tour, which performed to over 250,000 attendees at 30 shows, saw the debut live performance of the song “Leave A Light On”, which was preceded by an emotional PSA delivered by frontman Jacoby Shaddix, who pledged a donation on behalf of each city’s attendees, culminating in the $150,000 donation.

“We all have a role in preventing suicide and supporting each another’s mental health. Music has always been a powerful way to spread these messages. That’s why we are so thankful to Papa Roach for making mental health messages a priority throughout their career and most recently with “Leave a Light On” and renaming it after our campaign Talk Away The Dark,” said AFSP CEO Bob Gebbia. “And their generous donation will support AFSP’s public education, programs for survivors of loss, research, and advocacy work, that is essential to saving lives.”

The band were so moved by the emotive response each night of the tour and the work done by the AFSP, that they have officially re-named the song “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” and pledged a perpetual royalty from the song’s use, to be donated directly to the AFSP to continue their mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide long after the “Revolutions Live Tour.” The re-named single will officially be released on October 31, 2023.

“This issue doesn’t just affect one of us, or a few of us, it affects all of us.” says Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix. “We’re proud to work alongside the AFSP to support their mission to bring hope to those affected by suicide, and proud that this song – which has been special to us since it was first written – can play a part in bringing a little more light to an incredibly important topic.”

Papa Roach also released an official music video of “Leave a Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” today, here. The connection between the message of the song and the cause is undeniably evident. This impactful initiative teaches you the warning signs for suicide, and how to have a conversation that could save a life — whether it’s someone else’s or your own. Help is available — Talking, is the first step to preventing suicide.

Satanic Panic: How Metal Was Targeted & How Music Is Targeted Today

Satanic Panic

In the ’80s, Satanic Panic came for heavy music as the reason for America’s youth being corrupted. Today, Satanic Panic has a new target. This video looks at Satanic Panic: How Metal Was Targeted & How Music Is Targeted Today.

“Satanic Panic was a period of mass hysteria in the United States in the 1980s, fueled by moral panic surrounding perceived Satanism and the occult. The panic was characterized by widespread media coverage of the supposed influence of Satanism on popular culture, including heavy metal music.

Heavy metal music was a particular target of the Panic. Critics of the genre accused it of promoting Satanism and violence. They pointed to lyrics that dealt with occult themes and imagery, as well as the use of satanic symbols in album artwork. The media also played a role in demonizing heavy metal, with stories about headbanging fans and concerts that turned violent.

The Satanic Panic had a significant impact on American culture in the 1980s. It led to censorship of music and books, and it created a climate of fear and suspicion. The panic also had a negative impact on the heavy metal music scene, as bands were forced to defend themselves against accusations of Satanism.

The Satanic Panic began to subside in the late 1980s, as more and more people began to question the allegations. However, the legacy of the panic continues to this day. Heavy metal music is still often associated with Satanism, and it is still a target of moral panic.” (Google Bard)

blink-182 – One More Time | Album Review

blink-182 One More Time

Tom’s return does bring back the familiar, nostalgic side of blink-182. Equal parts serious and ridiculous. Sometimes to extremes as the album covers everything from Cancer to…well, “Edging”. Travis Barker is amazing and the riffs on top normally come across clean outside of a few production and mixing choices that leave tracks feeling unlevel. One More Time is 17 tracks and while I enjoyed most of the singles, some tracks here could have easily been scrapped. Songs like “You Don’t Know What You’ve Got” and “When We Were Young” really deal with repetitious writing for little effect. There’s deep and meaningful material, cheeky pop-punk shenanigans, and absolute cheese. All with varying mileage. All in all, it’s a good reflection of Blink’s entire career. It was nice to hear Mark, Tom, and Travis together one more time. 6/10

From Google Bard: “One More Time, the ninth studio album by American rock band Blink-182, was released on October 20, 2023, through Columbia Records. The album marks the return of guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, reuniting their best-known lineup for the first time in seven years. After bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus received a cancer diagnosis in 2021, the three reconvened to overcome old disputes, leading to DeLonge rejoining. It is also their first album to be produced by drummer Travis Barker.

The album’s title track and first single, released on September 21, 2023, is a mid-tempo ballad with a catchy chorus and introspective lyrics. The song reflects on the band’s history and their desire to make music together again, despite their past differences. It’s a fitting theme for an album that marks their much-anticipated reunion.”

+ New Date

Bad Omens slither through boundaries, only to ultimately choke convention in the process. The quartet—Noah Sebastian (vocals), Joakim “Jolly” Karlsson (guitar), Nick Ruffilo (bass), and Nick Folio (drums)—materialize with ghostly atmospherics, striking hooks, and the tingles of sensual high-register harmonies uplifted by cinematic production. Racking up over 250M worldwide streams to date and earning acclaim, the band presents an uncompromising and undeniable vision on their third full-length album, ‘THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND’ (Sumerian Records).

“Making the record changed us as songwriters and musicians. In many ways, I feel like it set me free as an artist because every decision made in the writing process was for myself, with no fear for anyone else’s expectations of what our third album should sound like. Be it our fans or our record label.”

They’ve always wielded this level of magic though…

The group’s 2016 self-titled debut, ‘Bad Omens’, yielded fan favorites such as “Glass Houses” and “The Worst In Me” which eclipsed 46 million Spotify streams. On its heels, 2019’s ‘Finding God Before God Finds Me’ spawned “Dethrone” (36 million Spotify streams) and “Careful What You Wish For”. Along the way, they toured with numerous marquee acts and received tastemaker praise.

After their first headline tour was canceled mid-way at the top of the global pandemic, the band found themselves at home in Los Angeles with plenty of time. Where they absorbed and imparted a different palette of unexpected inspirations. Channeling what the frontman describes at times as a “cursive sound” they embraced newfound confidence and boundlessly loose creativity. Anything went in the studio, and all “rules” were broken. Noah and Jolly wrote, produced, and engineered the music themselves while GRAMMY® Award-nominated producer and songwriter Zakk Cervini (Halsey, Grimes, Poppy, blink-182) lent his talents with the mix and master. Challenging himself, Noah decided to “make a track sampling items around the house, none of which were musical instruments”.

This ultimately became the framework for the first single “THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND”. Claps puncture the icy soundscape as his voice stretches from a breathy moan into an evocative and entrancing hook, breaking from a whisper into the seductive chant, “It wasn’t hard to realize. Love’s the death of peace of mind.” It culminates on a climactic scream uplifted by a distorted crunch.

“The whole record really details the loss of peace of mind,” he explains. “The lyrics in the title track are a little more specific in terms of the conflict at the heart of something more intimate and personal.”

By speaking it aloud, Bad Omens offer a level of comfort and empathy, with a sinister shroud. At the same time, they also give rock music a sexy new shape on THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND’.

“Sonically, we want to do something you can’t arrive late or early too,” he leaves off. “You can’t cheat your way to the final act. You have to get on the ride and process it until the end. The songs are meant to be heard from start to finish. We want you to take the whole trip with us.”

Creeper Share “Further Than Forever” Video

Creeper

The towering ambition of CREEPER‘s larger-than-life and darker-than-death new album Sanguivore has been heralded with the best reviews of their career to date. Now, they showcase their black-hearted rock opera by sharing the epic and cinematic 9-minute video for its opening track “Further Than Forever.”

Further Than Forever” is the most grandiose and escapist moment of the record, a rush of Jim Steinman-esque theatrics, rollicking rock riffs, prog excess, lashings of OTT dark humour (“I’m Jesus in a strip club giving head”), a touch of their goth punk roots, and a high drama spoken word section for good measure. It introduces the story’s two main characters: the deceptively sweet but devilishly sinister vampire Mercy, an “armageddon girl could end your world with one look” and her relationship with Spook, who is dangerously beguiled by her spell.

The video brings their story to life, starting with the moment Spook first laid eyes on Mercy and flash-forwarding to snapshots of their horrifyingly cursed future together — complete with vocalist William von Ghould whipping up the drama like a macabre master of ceremonies. As the video unfolds, it feels like a blend of arty folk horror and Hammer Films flamboyance, as well as the ultimate visual representation of who CREEPER are at this moment in time.

William says, “The music video for ‘Further Than Forever’ is an ambitious 9-minute epic made by Billy H Price and Jacek Zmarz. The film dives back into the world of Sanguivore, introduces the character of Spook, and tells the story of his relationship across oceans of time with Mercy.”

The video stars Paulina Kehlet as Mercy and Jamie She as Spook. It was produced by CREEPER, and directed by Billy Howard Price (Puppy) and Jacek Zmarz — the same team behind the recent “Teenage Sacrifice” video.

Sanguivore is available HERE, with a picture disc of the album’s striking portal-to-hell artwork one of four vinyl variants.

CREEPER launched Sanguivore with two sold-out shows in a day at London’s Lafayette, and are now completing a record store today that calls at Manchester’s hmv Arndale tonight and Crash Records in Leeds tomorrow. Their full theatrical show is back on the road next month for “The Sacred Blasphemy” tour, which features special guests Save Face and The Nightmares.

Cry To Heaven
“Sacred Blasphemy”
“The Ballad Of Spook & Mercy”
“Lovers Led Astray”

Murdersome metal trailblazers, Ice Nine Kills brought the latest chapter of their expansive cinematic universe to a brutal and sinister end last night as they premiered brand new ‘Silence of The Lambs’ inspired single and video “Meat & Greet” at an immersive event, hosted by INK frontman and maniacal mastermind, Spencer Charnas and entertainment journalist, Ryan J Downey. Fans tuned in from around the world to watch the event, that was also globally livestreamed on the band’s YouTube channel from The Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Dubbed “Ice Nine Kills Presents: Meat & Greet: The Horrorwood Saga Comes To A TASTEFUL End”, the delicious event marked the launch of “Meat & Greet” as part of a premiere screening of Ice Nine Kills’ complete Horrorwood Saga film. Composed of all eight of their official music videos from 2021’s chart topping album, ‘The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood’. Join us in celebrating the entire blood-soaked era of ‘The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood’ as we present the horrifying climax of our cinematic saga…..at least for now.”

Baroness Send Richmond To Sweet Oblivion

Baroness 10-14-23

The Sweet Oblivion tour has commenced on the Death Chariot (the newly named tour bus) and Baroness is night by night performing more songs of STONE live. On October 14th, 2023 at the Canal Club in Richmond, Virginia, Baroness debuted “Magnolia” to the East Coast crowd.

STONE won me over after playing it a few times and hearing songs like “Last Word” and “Shine” performed live reinforced my appreciation for Baroness’ latest release. It’s a continuation of sludge and groove metal expertise while also offering different formats and styles with the same sound.

It was not just new material at the Richmond stop. Hearing “March To The Sea” from Yellow & Green and seeing the crowd instinctively jump to the beat was an impressive pump-up moment early on. The sing-along to “Chlorine & Whine” and “Shock Me” (my personal favorite) off of Purple always makes the crowd sound giant and unified.

October 14th, 2023 was a dreary, overcast day in Virginia. On the second floor of The Canal Club, everyone saw the colors Baroness was shining. It was the best way to spend an evening, regardless of the weather. Check out photos and footage of the Richmond performance below.

March To The Sea

Before the concert, I was able to speak with Gina Gleason on the creation process of STONE, pedal configurations, and the love of touring. You can find that interview below.

The Sweet Oblivion Tour will continue through October and November, ending December 1st in Philadelphia, PA. Full tour dates are listed below.

Baroness Sweet Oblivion Tour

From Google Bard: “Baroness is known for their eclectic sound, which incorporates elements of heavy metal, sludge metal, progressive rock, and post-metal. The band has released six studio albums, all of which have been critically acclaimed. Their most recent album, Stone, was released in September 2023.

The band is currently on tour in North America in support of their new album, Stone. The tour began in October 2023 and is scheduled to end in December 2023.

Baroness has also announced a number of acoustic in-store tour dates for October 2023. These shows will feature the band playing stripped-down versions of their songs in an intimate setting.”
