For a post-hardcore band to truly stand out, it’s quite a tall task. Tastemakers and casual listeners alike tend to stick labels on groups or immediately compare them to something they’ve heard before. That’s why when I first listened to Galleons ahead of Metropolis in 2020, something clicked and I knew I was on to something special. Headed up by Valiant Hearts vocalist Tom Byrne, uncleans from Sergey Rodionov, and instruments from Maxim Shepelev and Evgeny Starshinov, the international act followed up Metropolis with an unreal self-titled in 2021 that really saw the scene start to notice this underrated four-piece thanks to legendary vocal features and a throwback sound that longtime fans of the genre haven’t heard in eons. After 3 years, it’s time for Violent Delights to solidify the seminal group and really bring them into the spotlight. How does Galleons’ fourth offering fare?
In a sphere where a 10-track album is the norm, Galleons said “forget that” and has 15 offerings for us on Violent Delights. To expound, 5 singles may seem like overkill, but that tracks as only 1/3 of the record – and drew a lot of ears with features from Craig Owens (Chiodos), Ryo Kinoshita (Knosis, ex-Crystal Lake), and Andrew Wells (Eidola). But Galleons is a band where features are just the cherry on top; new listeners will come to love how Byrne is in a class of his own with his satisfying inflection, massive range, and clever melodies that just resonate so well. Just put on “Yakisoba Dare” and try not to get this infectious opening crammed in your head.
When one thinks of what makes post-hardcore so appealing, some initial thoughts could turn to monumental choruses, bombastic guitar runs, groovy bridges, etc. What goes into Violent Delights is leaps and bounds past the surface-level norm, as Galleons throws everything at the wall and it sticks like superglue. Take opener “You Who Swallowed A Falling Star”, a synth-laden, riff-heavy affair, and juxtapose it with the very next track “Kiss the Sky”, a soaring ballad with a sense of rising action as the album is just getting started. It’s also evident early on that mastering duties from scene veteran Kris Crummett pays dividends in elevating Galleons’ succinct songwriting, bringing punctual guitar chugs, unrelenting double bass kicks, and crystal-clear vocals to the forefront.
While Galleons can take tender, relaxing vocal sections, they’re also not afraid to push their range to the limit on Violent Delights. Case in point, “Vagabond”, my easy favorite, packs a wallop at the same time as it tells a story with its reminiscent lyrics. It’s definitely a case of a song transcending musical notes and instead peeking into the listener’s imagination. Galleons’ flair continues in “Kismet”, dropping my jaw during a swerve tempo-change into an off-beat drum pattern whilst Byrne sings for the stars. This track is a testament to Galleons fragmenting their songs against the grain of “verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-end” and instead opts for a varied, multi-faceted approach.
In an interview I conducted with Byrne in 2020, he shared of Galleons’ future, “We already have about 5-6 decent demos for a fourth album, and we’re once again surprising ourselves with the direction it’s taking”. So even 4 years ago, the seeds for Violent Delights were being planted – and the full realization of each track is astonishing. I can only imagine seemingly random moments like “Blue Lagoon”‘s guitarwork or “Cashmere”‘s melancholic romance theme came to be several years ago. The double-pronged vocal delivery of Byrne’s delicacy and Rodionov’s intensity, both of whom sound considerably more comfortable and defined than earlier Galleons records, makes for a front-to-back singing clinic. And that’s not to say the instruments fall behind – with guitars as the focus in “Russian Roulette” and “The Downtown Dinosaur Gang pt. 3” and off-kilter drums from start to finish, “firing on all cylinders” undercuts just how cohesive Galleons has become.
The obvious question in a 15-track album is, “where’s the filler?” or “are some songs noticeably stronger than others?” These don’t apply to Violent Delights. The songs with vocal features aren’t the best pieces of the pie; tracks like “Lament” and “Violent Delights” stand on their own as the excitement just doesn’t let up at any point – a scalable feat for a record this long. Where Metropolis and Galleons draw soundscapes from some genre staples, Violent Delights is Galleons coming into their own with a definitive uniqueness that isn’t easily emulated. Even if you played the hell out of Violent Delights‘ 5 singles, there’s so much to unearth with this record, and after initial listens, I know I’ll be sticking this into regular rotation throughout the remainder of 2024. As Violent Delights has racked up nearly a million streams on Spotify alone before it’s even out, it’s no hyperbole to say that Galleons is flourishing at long last.

ABOUTLAMB OF GOD:
Nobody has waved the flag for 21st century American heavy metal higher or harder than Lamb of God. The Richmond, Virginia-based band have quietly emerged as the genre’s foremost torchbearers with a feral intensity brewed at grimy basement shows and uncanny power amplified on some of the world’s biggest stages. Along the way, they have garnered five career GRAMMY® Award nominations, sold over 3 million albums worldwide, packed arenas around the world, and tallied over 1 billion streams and counting—a true rarity for a group this heavy. Following the world-burning New American Gospel in 2000, they delivered a classic in the form of 2003’s As the Palaces Burn, which Rolling Stone touted as one of “The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.” They served up back-to-back gold-certified records with Ashes of the Wake [2004] and Sacrament [2005]—christened “Album of the Year” by Revolver. Wrath [2009] catapulted to #2 on the Billboard 200 followed by consecutive Top 3 entries Resolution [2012] and VII: Sturm und Drang [2015]. Metallica handpicked them as direct support on various tours, while they’ve welcomed everyone from Chino Moreno of Deftones to Chuck Billy of Testament to appear on tracks. Following 2020’s unanimously acclaimed Lamb of God, the2022 blockbuster Omens arrived as their sixth consecutive Top 15 debut on the Billboard 200, 1 on the Top Hard Rock Albums Chart, #3 on the Top Album Sales Chart, #3 on the Top Rock Albums Chart, and #5 on the Top Vinyl Albums. On its heels, they canvased North America with Pantera and launched one of their own biggest headline tours. Still, they continue raise the flag for metal without apology or compromise—just unrivaled integrity.
ABOUT MASTODON:
GRAMMY® Award-winning band Mastodon have quietly evolved into one of the most influential, inimitable, and iconic rock bands of the modern era. Since emerging in 2000, the Atlanta quartet have defied both sonic and thematic boundaries with an uncategorizable, undeniable, and uncompromising vision unlike anything else in music. This vision manifested over the course of canonical albums such as Leviathan, which landed on Rolling Stone’s coveted The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time. Following the seminal Crack The Skye [named one of the best albums of 2009 by Time], they earned three consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 with The Hunter [2011], Once More ‘Round the Sun [2014], and Emperor of Sand [2017]. Out of six career nominations, they received a GRAMMY® Award in the category of “Best Metal Performance” for “Sultan’s Curse.” They are the rare creative force whose music can be felt everywhere from Game of Thrones, Adult Swim, The History Channel, and DC comics films to Coachella and Bonnaroo. They notably supported the Hirschberg Foundation For Pancreatic Cancer Research with a rendition of “Stairway To Heaven” in honor of late manager Nick John. The group reached another critical high watermark via their ninth full-length, Hushed and Grim. Featuring the GRAMMY® Award-nominated “Pushing The Tides,” it marked the band’s third straight #1 bow on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums Chart. It concluded 2021 on over a dozen year-end lists with Rolling Stone raving, “we get everything from some of the band’s hookiest rockers to date to some of their most awe-inspiring epics.” Evolving as they usher rock into new realms, they forever remain the same unpredictable trailblazing beast—Mastodon.

“The 2000s saw the release of several influential emo albums that left a lasting impact on the genre. AFI’s “Sing The Sorrow,” The Used’s “In Love And Death,” and Death Cab For Cutie’s “Transatlanticism” are among the most notable. AFI’s “Sing The Sorrow” is a significant album that blends alternative rock, post-hardcore, and emo-pop, receiving critical acclaim. The Used’s “In Love And Death” is another iconic album that contributed to the band’s success in the emo and post-hardcore scenes. Death Cab For Cutie’s “Transatlanticism” is widely regarded as one of the best indie rock and emo albums of the 2000s, showcasing poetic lyricism and an indie sound palette. These albums, along with others from the 2000s, played a pivotal role in shaping the emo genre during that era.” (Perplexity)

Rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Famer ALICE COOPER is relaunching his long-running radio show today, Monday, February 5 with a new name and a new syndication partner.
“Alice’s Attic” will now be syndicated via Superadio.
Cooper will be working with the same creative team from his long-running and much-loved “Nights With Alice Cooper” radio show and the new program will feature a curated mix of classic and some obscure rock, with an occasional “future classic” song, plus Cooper’s stories and commentary about the music and artists he features.
New shows will air for five hours Monday through Thursday, with reconfigured shows on weekends. Local radio stations throughout the U.S. and Australia are already airing the show, with additional stations there, as well as in Canada and the UK expected to sign on shortly.
“To all of my insane radio minions, I’m BACK. And if you thought 20 years of ‘Nights With Alice Cooper’ was weird, just wait until you get into ‘Alice’s Attic!’ Just think about who or what could be lurking in all these dusty old boxes. We’ve got the same team behind the new show and so you’ll find the show fairly familiar, but we’re all looking forward to getting a little more creative with introducing new elements to keep things from getting stale. Speaking of stale… what IS that smell??!”
2024 will be a busy year for Cooper, as he has lots of international touring on deck. He will be headed to Australia in April and to Europe in June and July.
Additionally, Cooper will return to the road in the U.S. for another summer trek with Rob Zombie. All dates are below, with additional dates to be announced soon.

The Ghost Inside Announce New Album Searching For Solace Out April 19 Via Epitaph Records Share Music Video For Lead Single “Wash It Away”
Since their 2004 formation in El Segundo, California, The Ghost Inside have inspired international audiences with their songs of resilience, perseverance and vulnerability born from genuine life experiences. After five studio albums, today they announce their new record Searching For Solace out digitally on April 19th and physically on June 7th via Epitaph Records.
The Ghost Inside also share the lead single “Wash It Away”, which finds vocalist Jonathan Vigil ruminating on the realization that anything, even the band, can quickly disappear.
“It’s really hard to break everything down, start over and rebuild,” they explain. “Whether that is a relationship, schooling, a career or a business venture. After dedicating so much time to something, it can be scary to lose it and start over.”
The performance video depicts the band flooded by a torrential downpour, complete with epic underwater shredding. Check it out below:
The Ghost Inside “Wash It Away”
Four years since their self-titled album was named one of Loudwire’s Best Rock and Metal Albums of 2020, Searching For Solace arrives at an optimal time in the lives of The Ghost Inside. Nine years removed from the horrific bus crash that forever changed their trajectory, vocalist Jonathan Vigil, guitarists Zach Johnson and Chris Davis, bassist Jim Riley, and drummer Andrew Tkaczyk have learned an esoteric truth about tranquility. As the axiom says, “it’s the journey, not the destination” – a theme explored throughout the band’s dynamic sixth album, Searching for Solace.
“People always ask me how I remain positive,” Vigil muses. “I’m realizing now that there’s never really a time where you reach that point of ‘happiness.’ It’s a constant journey. I know that life is hills and valleys. You must be willing to embrace new things, stand up for yourself, and adapt. Because the goalposts just move further away. The search for solace never ends.”
A constant force in the metalcore scene since 2008, The Ghost Inside merges metalcore’s proficiency with punk’s urgency. Searching For Solace features production from Dan Braunstein (Spiritbox, Dayseeker) who took the reins on most of the record, with other tracks handled by Cody Quistad (Wage War), Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland (August Burns Red, Bloodywood). Building a bridge between more aggressive sounds and thoughtful messaging, the album boasts the most fundamental elements of The Ghost Inside: honesty, vulnerability, the message, and the melody. Unafraid to embrace darker themes and expanded sonic landscapes, Searching for Solace is a quintessential entry to The Ghost Inside’s catalog.
“There’s more singing and song structure than on the previous album, but there are also some of the heaviest songs we’ve done,” notes Riley (bass). “We really know who we are, and we also feel comfortable stepping into the future. This is a new chapter, but it’s not disconnected from what the band sounded like before. It’s more of an extension of it. We’re excited by it.”
The metalcore giants will be hitting the road for a headlining tour across North America with special guests Paleface Swiss, Bleed From Within, and Great American Ghost, kicking off in Las Vegas on April 19th and ending in Ohio on May 16.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 9th @ 10AM local.

How To Disappear somehow is if Explosions In The Sky and Thrice were combined and went post-hardcore. That sounds impossible but Casey the band make it work. Some of the guitar tones and swelling loud moments are massive. You hear the build-up and anticipation in songs like “Selah” and “Puncture Wounds To Heaven”. In some ways How To Disappear feels like it was plucked right out of the early 2000’s but kept today’s standards. This is an album you can get lost in. Every riff feels calculated and carries the weight of the listening experience. The album sounds dark one moment and then changes into something incredibly bright. Casey is moody and energetic. The title-track is great proof of all this. This is a band I’m glad I found out about because it’s something I feel sticks out in a good way. A band making music and not relying on a format. 8/10
“The album “How To Disappear” by the band Casey is a triumphant return, showcasing a broader and more subtly melancholic reflection on time passed. With interwoven melody, a focused palette, and cinematic ambition, the album triumphantly reclaims the band’s throne. Emotional, confessional, and downright therapeutic, the album is a testament to Casey’s reemergence as a band. Despite some mixed opinions, the album is praised for its intent and the enormity of its presence, making it a significant release for the band’s fans and the music scene in general.” (Perplexity)

Experimental death metallers JOB FOR A COWBOY are pleased to unleash “Beyond The Chemical Doorway,” the latest single from their long-awaited new full-length, Moon Healer, set for release on February 23rd via Metal Blade Records. The release marks the iconic outfit’s first new full-length in a decade!
Moon Healer is a vivid illustration of what happens when creativity, aggression, and volatility tangle for the first time in years. Like the band’s critically adored, 2014-released Sun Eater offering, Moon Healer is musically multifaceted, unabashedly brutal, and compellingly conceptual. Featuring a newly refreshed and reinspired lineup of frontman and co-founder Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and drummer (since 2020) Navene Koperweis, the band seamlessly picks up the mantle where Sun Eater left off.
Compared to past offerings, Moon Healer is as bone-crushing as JOB FOR A COWBOY has ever been. But it’s more consistent and conceptual, composed with the utmost enthusiasm and confidence. “The evolution of our sound has become a big part of the band,” Davy says. “As we mature as musicians, our tastes and interests naturally expand. With age comes more experience and ideas that we wouldn’t have considered in our earlier years.”
When discussing the lyrical genesis of songs like “Grinding Wheels Of Ophanim,” “Into The Crystalline Crypts,” and latest single, “Beyond The Chemical Doorway,” Davy’s writing gets cryptic and elliptical-sounding, part Philip K. Dick, part Timothy Leary. “I envision this as a death metal album born from the mystical confines of an alchemist’s laboratory. The music acts as potent potions, inducing hallucinogenic journeys that unlock the secrets of the universe.”
With “Beyond The Chemical Doorway,” Davy explores Gnosticism — an occult teaching based on Gnosis, a state of transcendence achieved through intuitive, unconventional means — by way of Hieronymus Bosch’s art. Elaborates Davy, “On Moon Healer, we unravel the dismal narrative of a close friend consumed by an unwavering pursuit of enlightenment. They achieve this through a compulsive embrace of hallucinogenic drugs. This storyline emerges from the foundation set in our earlier album, Sun Eater, delving deeper into the intricacies brewing within our friend’s psyche.
“When under the influence of these drugs,” he continues, “this individual claimed to encounter entities and find themselves in indescribable worlds that defy rational comprehension. Many who undergo such experiences draw intriguing parallels between diverse facets of Gnostic philosophy, biblical depictions of angels, and the stages of Bardo Thodol delineated in the Tibetan Book Of The Dead. In the album’s opener, ‘Beyond The Chemical Doorway,’ our friend vividly voices his hallucinations, recounting the experience of breaching forbidden, gnostic-like realms, with each account culminating in the utter unraveling of his being.”
