Scowl is an American hardcore punk band from Santa Cruz, California. The band consists of singer Kat Moss, guitarist Malachi Greene, guitarist Mikey Bifolco, bassist Bailey Lupo, and drummer Cole Gilbert.
From Google Bard: “Scowl formed in 2019, when Moss and Greene met at a local hardcore show. They quickly bonded over their shared love of bands like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and Bad Brains. Soon after, they recruited Bifolco and Lupo to complete the lineup. Scowl quickly made a name for themselves in the Santa Cruz hardcore scene. Their energetic live shows and catchy songs quickly won over fans. In 2020, they released their debut EP, Self-Titled. The EP was met with critical acclaim, with many praising Moss’s powerful vocals and the band’s tight musicianship.”
LOCKET SHARE POWER POP ANTHEM “BLAME MY BRAIN” — LISTEN
NEW ALBUM SUPERLUMINAL OUT NOVEMBER 10 VIA FEARLESS RECORDS
Canadian alt rock band Locket recently announced their new album and second full-length Superluminal, out November 10 via Fearless Records. Pre-order it here.
The band has shared another single from the album, this time in the form of the power pop anthem “Blame My Brain.” It’s got big hooks, bold harmonies, and it’s brimming with melodies. It’s incredibly catchy but also boasts hard-charging guitars to give it an extra edge.
“This song is about being so used to keeping thoughts to yourself, that by the time you’re ready to open up or express yourself, the words escape you,” says frontman Brad Garcia. “Almost like the introvert in me is keeping the extrovert at arm’s length, but never closer. I’m envious of people I know who are able to express themselves so effortlessly. I’m sure people who grew up in similar households — sharing wasn’t really a part of the routine — can relate. Lyrics aside, this song was a perfect exercise for honing in on who we are, or were, when we started writing the record back in 2021. It’s familiar territory explored through whatever lens we had at the time. Power chords and vocoders? Sure, why not.”
Locket also performed their song “Sonic Bloom” for The Recording Academy’s Press Play series. Watch it here.
Recording their second full-length, Garcia states, “When ‘band world’ got put on pause back in 2020, it almost felt like a sigh of relief. We found this sense of freedom in being able to just write music for no other reason than writing music. With real pressure we could just write riffs, not overthink anything. And I think because of that, sonically, the record feels so authentically us.”
He continues, “Thematically, I approached writing this record from this place of not knowing what’s next (for the band or for ourselves as individuals). It ended up being this cathartic process of learning to deal with this central part of your life being forced across a tightrope, and ultimately learning to be alright if it slips and falls apart, because it might make way for a new chapter. We started writing this album as band guys in our twenties. By the time it comes out we’ll be in our thirties, married, with a clearer understanding of who we are as people that have this insane privilege of making music together where people actually listen. We don’t take that for granted. Also, we all think the album fuckin’ rocks, so that’s probably the most important thing.”
Locket, whose core members (Garcia, guitarist Cory Bergeron and bassist Travis Morrison) have achieved more than they ever could have dreamed of when they started out 10 years ago in a band under a different name. Once reforming as Locket, they released the album All Outin late 2019. The record earned positive press from publications including Billboard, The Alternative, and New Noise, and the single “Hunnie” has racked up more than 1.6 million Spotify streams.
Last year, Disturbed released their first album since 2018. The socio-political statement album Divisive led to the eventual announcement of what the band is possibly known most positively for: touring. Take Back Your Life Tour with Disturbed featuring Breaking Benjamin and Jinjer came to Jiffy Lube Live Amphitheater in Bristow, VA. After a cancellation in North Carolina from the previous date, it was good to see this concert pull through and the tour continues on in all its pyro-fueled glory.
Disturbed sweat off a pound or two that night in Virginia due to the consistent fire in the stage background. It’s possible that’s added to the weight-loss regimen of David Draiman who definitely has lost weight over the years and looks impressive to match that legendary voice. This was a big summer show for the Live Nation venue and I do feel that the audience got exactly what they wanted. Disturbed playing the hits from the past 20+ years, filled with endless sing-a-longs.
Breaking Benjamin was direct support for Disturbed, who also had the privilege of supporting Shawn for his birthday. A fan named Shawn was brought out and sang Happy Birthday from the band and crowd, which is a pretty impressive accomplishment to have considering most diehard Breaking Benjamin fans of the last 20 years could never dream of that honor. Breaking Benjamin most recently worked with Starset on the Billboard Topping Track “Waiting On The Sky To Change”. Here’s hoping we see both of those bands together in person soon.
Starset ft Breaking Benjamin “Waiting On The Sky To Change”
This was the first time I was able to see Ukraine’s Jinjer live. I have been listening to the band’s music for a few years and without pyro or video boards, Tatiana Shmailyuk and company made for fantastic openers. Jinjer deserves to have more attention and as of writing this, the band has said they are nearly done writing the follow-up to 2021’s Wallflower. I’m confident this band will continue to grow and I’m also confident that this tour earned Jinjer new fans.
Jinjer “Vortex”
This was the traditional hard rock tour you think of when you hear the words “Summer Concert”. Two bands that have dominated Billboard and Mainstream Radio for two decades along with a younger band making their name around the world. It’s good to see some life being taken back in the world of hard rock. The Take Back Your Life Tour will continue through September 4th ending in Michigan.

From Google Bard: “Disturbed is an American heavy metal band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1994. The band consists of vocalist David Draiman, guitarist Dan Donegan, drummer Mike Wengren, and bassist John Moyer. The band’s name was suggested by Draiman, who said that it “just seems to symbolize everything we were feeling at the time.” Disturbed’s music is a blend of heavy metal, nu-metal, and hard rock, with Draiman’s distinctive vocals and Donegan’s guitar work being the band’s signature sounds.”

UK-rock back Neck Deep are back with their newest out-of-this-world single “Take Me With You,” available now via Hopeless Records. The new track finds vocalist Ben Barlow screaming for help into the unknown, letting everybody know that he would “rather be (hypothetically) abducted by aliens than stick round on this ‘hellish sack of burning trash.’”
“’Take Me With You’ is one of those songs where I had the title first. Literally as simple as “we should write a song about aliens called ‘Take Me With You.’ So conceptually and lyrically it was pretty straightforward,” says Barlow. “A few of us in the band are big UFO heads, particularly Seb, so we had a lot of fun writing this one.”
Barlow continues, “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a slight nod to Blink 182’s ‘Aliens Exist’ but you can blame Tom [DeLonge] for infecting my fragile mind at a young age and then going and busting the UFO world wide open. It’s ultimately a little bit of fun before we come at people with the more meaningful stuff a little later down the line.”
“Take Me With You” follows up the band’s recent singles “STFU” and “Heartbreak Of The Century,” both available to stream now.
Alongside the new track, Neck Deep have announced a headlining performance at the legendary Alexandra Palace – affectionately dubbed Ally Pally – in London on March 28, 2024.
“It’s been a long time coming but we’re stoked to be finally headlining Ally Pally,” the band says on the announcement. “We’ve supported a few times there and always loved the venue. But now it’s our turn for our biggest ever headline show. I’m expecting it to be the best Neck Deep show ever, and you wouldn’t wanna miss that, would ya?”
Neck Deep’s fourth album All Distortions Are Intentional wasreleased in 2020 via Hopeless Records. The first week of the album’s release saw over 20,000 copies sold and over 20 Million streams around the world. Securing the #6 spoton the Billboard Top Album charts as well as the #2 spots on the Alternative, Rock, Independent and Internet Album charts and #3 on Vinyl here in the United States as well as a Top 5 debut in the UK’s Top Albums chart, the album is polished yet raw, layered but catchy as hell.
Over the last decade, Neck Deep have gatecrashed the charts, both at home and internationally, sold hundreds of thousands of records and concert tickets, graced magazine covers all over the world and toured with some of the biggest names in the business in the process. As the band enter their second decade as a band, you’d continue to be foolish betting against the boys from Wrexham.
Swedish viking metal marauders, AMON AMARTH continue their domination with a brand new music video for their epic Valhalla feast track “Heidrun” off their chart-topping record “The Great Heathen Army”. Additionally, AMON AMARTH have unleashed a special 4-track digital single of “Heidrun” featuring a newly remixed version of the single plus two live bonus tracks and a “goat remix” version featuring actual goat vocals (full track list below). Watch the official music video for “Heidrun” HERE and find the digital single on your streaming platform of choice HERE.
Frontman Johan Hegg sheds light on the mythological significance of “Heidrun” –
“Heidrun is an interesting mythological character, it’s a goat that stands on the roof of Valhalla eating the leaf of the big tree Lärad. The milk that she gives is the honey/mead that the warriors in Valhalla drink each night. The lyrics themselves are both about Vikings travelling the world but also metaphorically what it is to be a touring musician.”
”Heidrun” Digital Single Track List:
1. Heidrun (2023 Remix)
2. Heidrun (Live at Graspop, 2023)
3. Put Your Back into the Oar (Live at Hellfest, 2023)
4. Heidrun (Goat Remix)
Following their hugely successful ‘The Great Heathen Tour’ at the end of last year, which saw them become the first death metal band to ever headline the legendary KIA Forum in Los Angeles, AMON AMARTH’s relentless raid continues this week as they invade US shores once again. This time they will join forces with fellow Swedes Ghost for their 25-date ‘Re-Imperatour USA 2023’ run as well as playing two very special headline shows in Omaha, NE on August 10th with Creeping Death and 200 Stab Wounds and Riverside, CA on September 9th with Gatecreeper. Ready your long swords, prepare for battle and grab your tickets and meet and greet packages HERE.
AMON AMARTH have teamed up with SET.Live to give Vikings in attendance at each show the opportunity to win their very own special, limited edition Viking drinking horn on the night of each show. Fans simply need to scan the QR code found scattered throughout each venue near the official tour merch stands and will be entered to win. This also signs fans up for exclusive opportunities that may arise in the future. SET.Live is only available to those in attendance, so get your tickets now.

*Amon Amarth Headline show with Creeping Death and 200 Stab wounds
A massive storm raged along the Eastern US on August 7th that either deterred people from leaving their homes or made leaving impossible. The rock gods decided that Richmond would not be affected as the storms surrounded the city limits but left clear skies above Virginia Credit Union Live. Every performance tonight mentioned the storm and heat but at the same time, it made for an event that fans were thrilled wasn’t canceled last minute as Alter Bridge live was going to happen as planned.
Alter Bridge’s Pawns & Kings Tour featuring Sevendust and Mammoth WVH is a tour that speaks to long-time rock fans. This is a live show about the music and not gimmicks or trends. The tour isn’t about stage personas or edgy rockstars trying to get attention. The music was the focus of the entire night.
Myles Kennedy addressed the crowd and said the band wanted to try for the third time “Fable Of The Silent Son”. This was a song that the new audiences were gravitating to and Alter Bridge has gathered the courage to play the beastly track.
Alter Bridge pulled off the big spectacle highlighting many songs off their latest album Pawns & Kings, while also playing songs going back to their 2000s days. Every solo was met with cheers, Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti traded off singing at points, it was exactly what Alter Bridge has established over nearly 20 years as a group.

Sevendust are a band I’ve been listening to since 1999 when I first heard the album Home. I could feel how happy I was when the band played “Denial” for the second track of the evening. Lajon Witherspoon addressed the storm and sweaty weather but pushed through, all while Sevendust continued to prove themselves as one of the most underrated live bands ever.
The band’s latest album Truth Killer was released less than a month ago and Sevendust decided to treat Richmond by playing the charting single “Everything” live for the first time ever. The song was well received and Lajon proclaimed “We did it!” after the track finished. It was a good moment for everyone.
Opening the night was Mammoth WVH, who less than two weeks prior released their second album Mammoth II. After listening to the new album and then hearing some of these songs live, it furthers my opinion that Mammoth WVH is going to be a big name for a long time. His vocals keep improving over time and his guitar work is fantastic. Along with the rest of Mammoth, Wolfgang Van Halen make a great case for modern rock still being able to have its place in 2023.
I greatly enjoyed this show. It was the perfect lineup for three bands who are in tune sonically but also understand the tradition of hard rock not needing to follow suit with online trends. Alter Bridge live has always been held to a high standard, and this entire night including Sevendust and Mammoth WVH all lived up to that high bar.
The Pawns & Kings Tour continues through August 2023 ending in Iowa. Tickets can be found at Alter Bridge’s website here: https://alterbridge.com/pages/tour

It’s so much easier to write a fucking metalcore song, than sit down and write a fucking HIT single that breaks the billboard hot 100 charts. so tired of these clowns acting like making metal is some crazy ass impossible concept that only few know how to do, here’s your chord…
Ronald Joseph Radke is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, musician and record producer, best known as the current lead singer of rock band Falling in Reverse and the former lead singer of band Escape the Fate.
Metalcore is a fusion genre combining elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk, that originated in the late 1980s. Among other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, which are slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumentation includes heavy guitar riffs often utilizing percussivepedal tones and double bass drumming. Vocalists in the genre typically perform screaming, more popular bands often combine this with the use of standard singing, usually during the bridge or chorus of a song. However the death growl is also a popular technique within the genre.
The performances and execution across the board are big. The music sounds dynamic and strong. Wolfgang’s singing has a bigger presence, and his guitar and all instrument work are great. It’s no gimmicks rock that thrives in the moment and is equal parts flashy and driven. Lyrically it’s nothing mindblowing but the hooks are delivered so well that it gets in your head instantly. Strong singles are the highlights. I do wish the mainstream format wasn’t as followed in parts because I feel Mammoth could venture out and do well. Heavy music fans who have not given Wolfgang Van Halen a chance, need to. He’s not just a son of a legend, he’s proven he’s his own musician worthy of his own name. Good stuff. 7/10.
