Mirrorcell Releases “Reflecting The Inner Self”

Modern metal band Mirrorcell has officially signed with InVogue Records, marking a major milestone in their career. releasing Reflecting The Inner Self. To celebrate the announcement, the Missouri-based group has announced the release of their latest EP, Reflecting the Inner Self on October 25th via InVogue Records. This new EP, featuring the standout track “Tongues“—an exploration of control, manipulation, and intense emotional entanglement. Accompanied by a gripping music video, “Tongues” serves as the focal point of the EP, showcasing the band’s cinematic approach to storytelling.

On the new EP, vocalist Nate Cell comments:

“’Reflecting the Inner Self’ is an amalgamation of all the singles we have released through the course of 2024. This EP not only encompasses our overall tone and aesthetic as a band. But also what we are capable of by bending genres and being diverse in our sound.”

Mirrorcell “Tongues”

Tongues” is a dark, visceral journey through toxic attachment and power dynamics. From a lyrical perspective, it tells a story of being trapped in a relationship where manipulation and pain become intertwined with intimacy. Painting a vivid picture of someone losing themselves in the overwhelming power dynamics, while grappling with a sense of helplessness. Yet, there is an undeniable allure that keeps them bound to this destructive connection. With themes of control, attachment, contradictory emotions, and a struggle with identity, Mirrorcell leaves the interpretation of their music to the listener.

Emerging from Missouri, modern metal band Mirrorcell is more than just a new band to have on your radar—it’s a reflection, a mirror to the complexities we often avoid. Formed in 2022, the band emerged quietly, like a shadow cast in the wake of a chaotic world. Frontman Nate Cell had a vision to create: a mirror cell refers to a compartment or enclosure housing a mirror, typically found in places like dressing rooms, bathrooms, or even personal spaces. But beyond its utilitarian purpose, a mirror cell becomes a space for contemplation and self-exploration. When we gaze into its reflective surface, we are met not only with our physical appearance but also with a chance to look inward.

In collaboration with Nate, co-writers Caleb Freihaut (The Funeral Portrait) and Ben McGuiness, who has worked with Landon Tewers, Emarosa, and Waterparks, have brought a unique sonic edge to the group. Their debut single, “Bleach”, released in August 2023, rapidly established the band in a scene with visceral punch and captivating imagery. The song itself was more than simply an introduction; it was a statement that Mirrorcell is ready to carve their own path. Their music is driven by an explosive visual style that is greatly influenced by the cinematic world, combining a gritty and emotive tone with an almost filmic quality to their sound and imagery.

Inspired by iconic bands from the 1990s and 2000s, such as Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, and Björk, as well as modern metal trailblazers like Code Orange, Loathe, and Vein.fm, Mirrorcell constructs a dense, aggressive, and ethereally atmospheric soundscape. Their songs contain a weight that reflects the challenge of introspection, confronting issues of identity, demands of existence, and a frequently eerie component of growth.

Their upcoming EP, Reflecting the Inner Self, is a potent reflection on the band’s origins and its future trajectory. Each track offers a window into their evolving musical and personal identities. As the title suggests, it is an introspective path through layers of consciousness. The band is exploring what it means to grow and transform, not just as musicians, but as individuals, and how that evolution translates into their art.

While their sound is unmistakably heavy, it also exhibits a deeper, more complex side that defines who Mirrorcell is. It’s not just about distortion and power; it’s about creating an atmosphere that draws the listener in and forces them to confront their own reflections. In a world where we are continually striving to better understand ourselves, the concept of a mirror cell is essential. A mirror cell is more than just a physical reflection; it symbolizes introspection, self-awareness, and personal development.

Mirrorcell Reflecting The Inner Self

Better Lovers – Highly Irresponsible | Album Review

The full length debut from Better Lovers who showcase everything that is beautifully chaotic. The combination of so many great bands forming a true supergroup doesn’t lead to egos trying to outshine each other here, but rather a group of slightly sinister musicians knowing how to bring destruction in the best way. The riffs and guitar work are instantly infectious. Greg’s vocals are as powerful as ever while still sounding fresh. Shades of hardcore, mathcore, metalcore, punk, it’s all infused together and present regardless of the pace. A song like “Everything Was Put Here For Me” gets increasingly aggressive while “Love As An Act Of Rebellion” has a strong groove throughout. Both styles work perfectly. It would be highly irresponsible not to check out Better Lovers. I will not apologize for that line because it was put here for me. 8/10.

Better Lovers “Love As An Act Of Rebellion”

“The Vans Warped Tour, a seminal and beloved touring music festival, is set to make a highly anticipated return in 2025, marking its 30th anniversary. After a hiatus since its final cross-country run in 2018, the festival will revive its tradition of showcasing a diverse array of rock, punk, and alternative bands. The 2025 iteration will feature three two-day festivals in key cities: Washington, D.C. at the RFK Campus, Long Beach, California, and Orlando, Florida. This comeback is orchestrated in partnership with live entertainment giant Live Nation, although fans have expressed some skepticism regarding potential increases in ticket prices. Known for launching the careers of iconic bands like Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, and Paramore, Warped Tour promises to once again provide a vibrant platform for both established and emerging artists to connect with their fans. With its rich history and dedicated fanbase, the return of Vans Warped Tour in 2025 is expected to be a significant event in the music festival calendar.” (Perplexity)

L. S. Dunes Announces New Album Violet; Share “Machines”

New Single “Machines” Out Now
Watch New Music Video Here

L.S. Dunes has announced their highly anticipated sophomore album Violet, which is set to be released on January 31st via Fantasy Records. The record was announced yesterday, exclusively on Billboard. Today fans can stream the band’s new single “Machines” – out now here, and watch the music video here.

On the new album Travis Stever shares, “‘Violet’ is a sonic journey into the depths of every band member of L.S. Dunes. The collaborative efforts to bring each song to a full potential came naturally. It’s the album that has always lived in us individually but could only be made together. It has melodies that have lived within me since I was a child. It was only with this band I would be able to find a place where they could find a home in song.

Pre-orders for Violet are available now at https://found.ee/LSDunesViolet.

Fans can catch L.S. Dunes this weekend at When We Were Young Festival. Following the festival, the band will be on the road with Rise Against for their full U.S. tour. For a full list of upcoming shows, please see below or visit: https://lsdunes.com.

About L.S. Dunes:

The earliest version of L.S. Dunes—the one that introduced themselves to the world at Chicago’s Riot Fest in 2022 and went on to release their blissfully chaotic debut, Past Lives, later that year—was birthed in turbulence. There was a pandemic. There were time and family constraints. There were members away on tour with one of their many other bands: Anthony Green’s Saosin and Circa Survive, Frank Iero’s My Chemical Romance, Tim Payne and Tucker Rule’s Thursday, and Travis Stever’s Coheed and Cambria, among them. Somehow, they managed to make it work, releasing a few more singles along the way, and touring the globe for a growing and passionate cult-like fanbase. By and large, it was a successful first effort. But there were also some unforeseen consequences, and as the album cycle came to an end, there was at least one mistake that Green knew they needed to correct.

I became so sick of playing the song where I sing, ‘Sorry that I wish that I was dead,’ and I am so sorry I even wrote that song,” he says of “Sleep Cult,” the closing track on their debut. “I’m grateful that people resonate with it, but it just wasn’t helpful for me to sing that every night or to talk about that. So this time, I personally decided that I really wanted to make a record that says there is magic in the world. I wanted to celebrate music and the transformative power that it has to connect and inspire people. I wanted to make something that was in complete opposition to that song—something that says, I want to live.” (Green)

By any measure, Violet—once again helmed by Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip—lives up to that promise, and in many ways, it opens up an opportunity to rediscover L.S. Dunes in a different light. Where Past Lives takes its oxygen from the thrill of frenzy and impulsiveness, Violet breathes deeper with a more open and expansive palette. Whether it lives in the confident and steady pulse of a song like “Machines,” in the rousing lyrical empowerment of “Paper Tigers,” or in the way that “Forgiveness” forges itself as an anthem for love and unconditional acceptance in the face of our personal failures, this is a body of work that secures multiple outcomes: There is hindsight. There is hope. There is, in fact, magic.

Perhaps no greater evidence of this exists but in the album’s name. Violet. A word that entered Iero’s subconscious while mumbling scratch lyrics to a new song he was writing, a word that became the working title for that song, and a word that survived demo after demo until it finally became the name of the album—despite not appearing anywhere in the final lyrics of the title track. “It just happened,” Iero insists. It appeared out of nowhere.

That’s the thing about magic: You need to suspend disbelief. You need to surrender to it. You need to stop asking for an explanation and simply embrace it when it comes.

What Is DIVORCED DAD ROCK? | 10 Divorced Dad Rock Bands

The term Divorced Dad Rock is thrown around to describe specific post-grunge bands and other styles. This video describes and looks at 10 Divorced Dad Rock bands.

There are way more than 10, including good and bad bands that qualify. My question now is, which band do you think will be the first to embrace the DDR definition? I mean there has to be one to take the beer drinking helmet as a crown and wear it as king of the sad dads.

“Divorced Dad Rock is an internet slang term that refers to a specific genre of rock music typically associated with bands that gained popularity in the late 1990s to early 2010s. This genre is characterized by its appeal to divorced fathers, often featuring themes of angst, nostalgia, and emotional struggles. The term is a derivative of “dad rock,” which generally describes rock music that resonates with middle-aged men and has a broad, nostalgic appeal. DDR often includes bands that are perceived as lacking artistic depth, sometimes referred to as “butt rock” due to their mainstream, radio-friendly sound.” (Perplexity)
