“A new bill designed to increase streaming payouts for artists was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday (Mar. 6). Titled the Living Wage for Musicians Act, the legislation proposes the establishment of a new royalty fund that would pay artists directly, bypassing labels altogether. Introduced by Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), the bill aims to boost artists’ streaming royalty from fractions of a penny up to one penny per stream by way of the new fund. It proposes to fund the additional royalty payments, in part, by mandating the addition of a fee to every streaming subscription equal to 50% of the subscription price — an amount that would be set anywhere between $4 and $10. Judas Priest – Invincible Shield | Album Review

Over 50 years in as a band, and this album proves Judas Priest has no intention of slowing down. The song writing and execution is on par with the excellent 2018 Firepower. The guitarwork naturally steals the show in many tracks. Some of the solos are elongated and the album benefits from that as a whole. Invincible Shield is a guitar-lover’s album. You’ll be air-guitaring on first listen. The title track and “Panic Attack” have great energy while a song like “Gates Of Hell” is classic rock in 2024. The plodding, sinister tracks that slow the pace down also have their place. It’s Judas Priest, they can do anything. In an interview Halford said “When you’ve cheated death, it changes your outlook on life.” Not only did Rob cheat death, his voice didn’t show any age on Invincible Shield. 8/10

Nevertel release new single, “Sacrifice”

Nevertel, the Tampa-based rock/R&B quartet, has released their newest single, “Sacrifice”, after some mysterious, enticing teases the week following up to it.

Nevertel has made huge waves the past few years, elevating their sound to reach a staggering half-a-million monthly listeners on Spotify, getting plays on SiriusXM’s Octane Test Drive, and even performing at Florida’s Rockville 2023. Off the success of recent singles “Far Away” and “Modified”, “Sacrifice” is another triumph in songwriting and execution for the group. It’s another example of what embodies Nevertel and sets them apart from the pack: an earworm chorus that sticks like glue in your head, deeply-relatable lyricism, and an ample offering of heaviness before it’s all over.

The duality of vocalists Jeremy Michael and Raul Lopez are felt across both verses, whereas the band holds the melody and shines in “Sacrifice”s breakdown. Purveyors of their own distinctive, genre-blurring sound “Thrash Grass”, The Native Howl has released their gritty new single and official music video for Mercy featuring Lzzy Hale of Halestorm (via Sumerian Records). With foreboding, foot-stomping rhythm, and the band’s raw intensity paired with Lzzy‘s inimitable vocals, Mercy is bound to rattle listeners down to the bone. When asked about today’s release, the band shared:

‘Mercy’ was written as our original Thrash Grass anthem, and to have our vocal hero Lzzy Hale singing on it is nothing short of a dream come true!

‘Mercy’ subtly tells the story of infamous Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, and the dichotomy of dark and light between him and his disgraced politician brother William. While pulling from additional themes of organized religion and corruption, the music bed’s growth in intensity throughout attempts to paint the process of all evil and wrong-doing slowly being brought to light.

All tour dates will feature punk legends Pennywise as special guests. The Scratch opens the shows through March 12, with Boston openers including: Death Before Dishonor (March 14), The Scratch (March 15), Big Bad Bollocks (March 16) and Kneecap (March 17). However, the March 17 livestream only includes Dropkick Murphys’ performance.

On March 20, Dropkick Murphys will perform at the Sinéad & Shane at Carnegie Hall event in New York City, celebrating the life and work of Sinéad O’Connor and Shane MacGowan, two late icons of music and freedom of speech.

Dropkick Murphys returned to fully electric performances in late 2023 following a pair of critically acclaimed acoustic albums – 2022’s This Machine Still Kills Fascists and 2023’s Okemah Rising – interpreting the work of Woody Guthrie for a new generation. The albums, recorded in Tulsa with trusted collaborator and producer Ted Hutt, exposed the band to new audiences through airplay on stations like SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country, coverage in outlets such as Rolling Stone CountryPaste, CNN, Americana Highways and SPIN, and via Dropkick Murphys’ first-ever acoustic, reserved-seating theater tour in 2022.

Dropkick Murphys are: Ken Casey (lead vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, tin whistle, accordion, piano, vocals), Jeff DaRosa (guitars, banjo, mandolin, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, percussion, and vocals), James Lynch (guitars and vocals), and Kevin Rheault (bass). Joining the band for their live shows is bagpiper and multi-instrumentalist Campbell Webster.

Sad Summer Fest Turns 5; Announces 2024 Lineup & Dates

Sad Summer Festival is excited to announce their 2024 lineup today as the event looks to celebrate its 5-Year anniversary. Originally launched in 2019 by some of the artists and industry folks lamenting the loss of the long-running Vans Warped Tour, Sad Summer was the first major event to emerge in the wake of Vans Warped Tour’s end. Initially serving as a way for the community to continue to come together, Sad Summer has grown significantly each year becoming a scene staple and contributing to its reemergence over the past four years. The nationwide run features festival founders Mayday Parade and The Maine along with The Wonder YearsWe The KingsReal FriendsKnuckle Puck, & Daisy Grenade on all dates with support coming from The Summer SetHot MilkDiva Bleach, and Like Roses on select shows.

Unlike most major festivals that feature multiple stages and hundreds of bands each day, Sad Summer opted to create a more intimate experience with one stage and a smaller curated lineup each year. This intentional decision eliminates any competition and the need to decide which act you are going to watch, while simultaneously providing the smaller acts on the bill a real chance to be seen and heard. In addition, festival co-founders Mike MarquisJosh Terry, and Tim Kirch, made it a goal with Sad Summer to create an environment that is inclusive and independent. This conscious choice has been well-received making them one of Pollstar’s “Top Grossing Tours of 2021” and seeing overall attendance nearly doubling in the last four years.

Another important theme of Sad Summer is its ongoing commitment to non-profit partnerships and involvement. As they look to celebrate their fifth-year anniversary in 2024, the festival will continue to build upon their dedication to giving exposure and access to a variety of causes the artists, founders, and community are passionate about. This year fans can expect to learn more about previously involved non-profits like HeadCount and Reverb, as well as learn about Sad Summer’s new partnership with Calling All Crows among others. Each organization will have an on-site presence, providing education and resources.

Sad Summer Festival started in 2019 with The Maine and Mayday Parade topping the bill and over the next four years the annual event has featured All Time LowTaking Back SundayPVRISNeck DeepWaterparksThe Story So Far, and more. This year will be the first time The Maine and Mayday Parade have toured together since Sad Summer’s inaugural run. They will be joined for each show by The Wonder Years, We The Kings, Knuckle Puck, & Daisy Grenade. Like Roses can be caught July 12 through 19, Diva Bleach July 20 through August 9, The Summer Set is July 12, 13, and 19-21 and Hot Milk is playing July 23 through August 9. SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL Drop Thrashingly Heavy New Single “Conflict”

Russian deathcore destroyers, SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL have dropped their latest display of unbridled, unapologetic and unrelenting brutality in the shape of thrash-tinged new single, “Conflict” today. Out now on Sumerian Records, the track can be streamed HERE and the official music video can be viewed HERE or bellow.

Slaughter To Prevail released their debut EP, ‘Chapters Of Misery‘ in 2016 and followed with their debut full-length album, ‘Misery Sermon‘ in 2017. They released stand alone singles “Agony” and “Demolisher” in 2019 and 2020 respectively, followed by their second full-length, Kostolom, released in 2021 to huge critical acclaim with Revolver describing the album as “one bloody deathcore barrage after another” when including it on their 25 Best Albums Of 2021 list and Metal Injection stating that Kostolom proves that Slaughter to Prevail can get hooky without getting wimpy”. Kostolom spawned massive hit singles “Baba Yaga” and “Zavali Ebalo“.

They released anti-war anthem ‘1984‘ in August of 2022 to oppose Russia’s war on Ukraine. The video for which has racked up 3.1 million views and over 13 million Spotify streams. They followed this with the release of track “Viking” in 2023 which was debuted on their US headline tour to much excitement and acclaim from fans. The video for the track currently has 5.8 milllion views and 10 million Spotify streams.

The band are one of the most popular and heavily featured bands within the YouTube ‘reacts’ community, on account of vocalist Alex Terrible‘s insane vocal abilities and his own YouTube channel which has over 1.16 million subscribers.

To date, the band have clocked up an impressive 971.1 million cross-platform streams.
