Gogol Bordello

Releases “Walking On The Burning Coal” Single

Renowned gypsy punk band GOGOL BORDELLO has released the new single “Walking On The Burning Coal” from their upcoming seventh album SEEKERS AND FINDERS which comes out August 25 , 2017 via Cooking Vinyl. The song premiered on Consequence of Sound who characterized the song “as contemplative as it is emboldening, the verses finding Hütz examining a familiar wanderer’s desire and the choruses demanding a challenge to be faced.

The band will embark on a North American tour in support of the album from September to November with a special NYC-area record release show on August 26th at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre (full tour dates below).  NYC’s brass/woodwind Lucky Chops will support.

Written over an extended time on three different continents, Seekers and Finders finds the nine-piece multi-cultural band in top form – an aural party of violins, accordions, trumpet, marimba amongst the standard rock basics of guitars, drum and bass.  “I was still bouncing between Latin America and Eastern Europe when songs were emerging, but finally, as soon as I moved back to New York, it all came into focus… as it always did for me here,” he explains.

Formed in 1999, Gogol Bordello took their style of Eastern European-influenced gypsy punk and doused it deep into the underground rock of New York City. Having worked with numerous grandmasters of production including Rick Rubin, Steve Albini, Andrew Scheps, and Victor Van Vugt, Seekers and Finders brings the band full circle with Eugene taking over the producer’s chair.

Gogol Bordello is Eugene Hütz (vocals/guitar), Sergey Ryabtsev (violin), Thomas Gobena (bass), Pedro Erazo-Segovia (vocals/percussion), Pasha Newmerzhitsky (accordion), Boris Pelekh (guitar), Alfredo Ortiz (drums), Pamela Racine (vocals/percussion), and Vanessa Walters (vocals/percussion). Seekers and Finders will be released on August 25, 2017 via Cooking Vinyl.  Pre-orders available now here.

Sully Erna, Mark Wahlberg youth foundation & Recovery Centers of America Partner to raise awareness about the opioid crisis in America

Four-time GRAMMY®-nominated, singer, songwriter and musician SULLY ERNA has partnered with the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and Recovery Centers of America to raise awareness about the growing opioid crisis in America. SULLY and the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation have teamed up to create a brand new video featuring the song “Different Kind of Tears,” the first single off ERNA’s current solo album HOMETOWN LIFE, available now via BMG (here).

Different Kind of Tears by Sully Erna on VEVO.

The raw and powerful video for “Different Kind Of Tears”–a song dedicated to teenage angst from the heartbreaking perspective of a parent–features actual footage from parents who have lost their children to opioid addiction via overdose. Watch the clip which premiered via VEVO.

Listen today, July 11 as SULLY and Rich Smith (RCA) join NPR’s “HERE & NOW” host Robin Young for an in-depth interview about the song and specific resources for communities to be pro-active on frontlines of the opioid invasion; hear the full interview (here).

The latest numbers published in the New York Times report that opioid deaths grew to over 60,000 nationwide in 2016 and they are projected to grow even higher in 2017.The Department of Health in Massachusetts alone reported statewide deaths caused by opioid overdoses topped 2,000 in 2016 for the first time, meaning  each day an average of nearly six men and women inject, snort or take a drug and never wake up again*. *Department of Public Health.

This grim discovery inspired SULLY to team up with Jim Wahlberg, Executive Director of the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, who alongside Recovery Centers of America, is dedicated to protecting families and raising awareness to stop the opioid crisis one neighborhood at a time

“When Jim Wahlberg approached me to get involved with the Foundation to combat the out-of-control opioid epidemic sweeping this country, it was an easy decision,” explains singer-songwriter-musician SULLY ERNA.  “Most of the charity work I have done is based around helping out inner-city kids to begin with–since I was that kid myself once–and especially since the opioid problem is now so severe in my hometown of Lawrence, Massachusetts. This song and video echo the feelings of struggle and loss people experience with this addiction and yearns to be heard.”

“This video addresses one of the most serious health issues facing our society today,” explains producer Jim Wahlberg, Executive Director of the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation. “Addiction touches every culture, every family and ultimately every one of us. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with a very talented musician on this important project.”

“Our neighbors, our co-workers, our friends and our families are being affected by the addiction epidemic,” said Rich Smith, Chief Marketing Officer of Recovery Centers of America. “With the goal of saving one million lives, we felt that it was a natural partnership for RCA to join Sully Erna and the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation to increase awareness of just how prevalent this epidemic has become and the resources for help, like RCA’s inpatient and outpatient facilities.”

According to data from a February 2017 report on opioid overdoses from the CDC, in 2015 there were over 22,000 deaths involving prescription opioids, equivalent to about 62 deaths per day. An increase from approximately 19,000 in 2014, a significant portion of the increase in deaths was due to deaths involving synthetic opioids other than methadone, which includes fentanyl. Law enforcement agencies have reported recent increases in seizures of illegally-made (non-pharmaceutical) fentanyl. It is presumed that a large proportion of the increase in deaths is also due to illegally-made fentanyl. The CDC further discloses thatprescription opioids continue to be involved in more overdose deaths than any other drug, and all the numbers are likely to underestimate the true toll given the large proportion of overdose deaths where the type of drug is not listed on the death certificate. The findings show that two distinct, but interconnected trends are driving America’s opioid overdose epidemic: a 15-year increase in deaths from prescription opioid overdoses, and a recent surge in illicit opioid overdoses driven mainly by heroin and illegally-made fentanyl, both trends continued in 2015*. *Referenced CDC report February 8, 2017.

HOMETOWN LIFE was composed by SULLY ERNA on piano and acoustic guitar, and produced in his New England-based studio. A powerful mix of blues, country and rock,  Guitar Player magazine hailed the album shows “compelling ‘other sides’ to the Godsmack frontman, such as his forays into country, Motown soul, bossa nova, and even orchestral pieces” (8/18/16). A confessional and raw work, HOMETOWN LIFE offers an intimate view into the emotional roller-coaster of life, marking a stylistic left-turn from SULLY’s first solo album Avalon as well as the music he creates as frontman for the multi-platinum rock group Godsmack. On HOMETOWN LIFE, SULLY explores his own eclectic musical tastes–from singer-songwriter Billy Joel/Bruce Springsteen, to the bossa nova touch of “Take All of Me,” to the breezy island feel of “Your Own Drum,” and the finger-snapping Motown bass lines of the bluesy “Turn It Up,”–which features Sully’s 71-year-old musician father Salvatore playing trumpet-as well as the wide-screen canvas of mini-symphonies such as “Blue Skies” and “Forever My Infinity.”

l SHARON OSBOURNE:  “Ozzfest Meets Knotfest is coming back for another round.  Last year we had over 75,000 people attend and we have another great lineup this year with Ozzy’s first solo show in L.A. in more than six years.  This is not just another show…it’s Ozzfest Meets Knotfest!  And this year’s event means the world to me as we’ll be amongst friends like Prophets of Rage, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Marilyn Manson and Stone Sour…it’s going to be another amazing weekend.”

This fall Stone Sour will head overseas for an international leg of their ‘Hydrograd World Tour’ which will kick off November 10th with a performance at Moscow, Russia’s Stadium.  The band will then return to the states this October for a set of festival performances including Houston Open Air (10/15), and Monster Energy Aftershock (10/21). Stone Sour unleashed their eponymous debut album in 2002 and was immediately confirmed as one of the most significant hard rock outfits of the 21st century. The self-titled release earned RIAA gold certification while singles “Get Inside” and “Inhale” each received GRAMMY® Award nominations for “Best Metal Performance.”

COME WHAT(EVER) MAY followed in 2006 and proved an even greater accomplishment with a top 5 debut on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 and a #1 entry onto Billboard’s “Rock Albums” chart. The acclaimed album spawned still another GRAMMY®-nominated single in “30/30-150” on its own way to RIAA gold certification.  COME WHAT(EVER) MAY unleashed a series of rock radio classics, including “Sillyworld,” “Made of Scars,” the #1 hit, “Through Glass,” which spent seven weeks atop Billboard’s “Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks” while also reaching #2 on “Alternative Songs” and the top 40 on the overall “Hot 100.” The song’s companion video was also a favorite, now with over 49 million individual views at YouTube alone.

Stone Sour’s most recent all-original releases, the monumental HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES – PART 1 and HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES – PART 2, both made top 10 debuts on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 just six months apart from one another – the band’s third and fourth consecutive top 10 chart entries. The two-part concept album yielded a string of multi-format rock radio hits, including the top 5 favorites “Absolute Zero,” “Do Me A Favor,” and “Tired,” the latter of which ascended to #1 at Mainstream Rock outlets nationwide.

HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES drew widespread critical applause with ArtistDirect hailing “PART 1” as “a milestone for Stone Sour and for modern rock music. It’s on par with Alice In Chains’ ‘DIRT,’ Metallica’s MASTER OF PUPPETS, Queens of the Stone Age’s SONGS FOR THE DEAF, Soundgarden’s SUPERUNKNOWN, and any other game-changing albums you can think of.” HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES – PART 2 earned equally great acclaim, including placement on Revolver’s “Top 20 Albums of 2013” and Loudwire’s “Top 10 Rock + Metal Albums of 2013” ranking. The Guardian, in its four-out-of-five starred rave, praised Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor’s “remarkable transformation into heavy music’s premier polymath and renaissance man” while further hailing the album’s “towering melodies and moments of radio-friendly majesty, the band’s trademark straddling of the divide between metal and commercial rock sounding increasingly adroit.”

2015 saw the arrival of STRAIGHT OUTTA BURBANK, an unprecedented EP in which Stone Sour take on five immortal songs originally performed by such iconic artists as Bad Brains, Iron Maiden, The Rolling Stones, Mötley Crüe, and Slayer. The EP is highlighted by a stunning rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” featuring distinctive guest vocals from Lzzy Hale of Atlantic recording group Halestorm, STRAIGHT OUTTA BURBANK is available now at all DSPs and streaming services.

Known far and wide as a truly incendiary live act, Stone Sour has built an international fan following through countless headline tours, multi-artist caravans, and performances at such famed festivals as Rock In Rio and the UK’s Download Festival.

Fairy Bones Find an indie-meets-ska Groove on New Single

Fairy Bones Find an indie-meets-ska Groove on New Single

Arizona-based alternative quartet Fairy Bones has released a fast-paced music video for their latest single “No One Can Suffer Like I Can.” Underneath the nihilist title, lies a sarcastic track pointing out that everyone is fighting different battles of different magnitudes. Vocalist Chelsey Louise addresses her own struggles with depression with a self-effacing sense of humor in the song. The video originally premiered with Impose Magazine.

I’ll tell myself, ‘Suck it up b—h, there’s so much worse happening in the world.’,” says Louise. “But I realized, if I don’t help myself first, I’m cornering myself into being useless to others. I need to save myself before I can save anyone else. I use humor to mask the fact that I’m ‘suffering.’ So do others. Misery loves company and all that. It’s kind of nice when someone else understands that. Just ’cause I post something nihilistic doesn’t mean you need to be worried. I’m still working this all out myself so I don’t want to come off like I have all the answers, or any answers for that matter, but that’s where I’m at in my head right now

The song drives along at full steam before the unexpected payoff of a chorus drops in, leaving you to bob your head along with the pop-friendly hook. Produced by Bob Hoag (The Format, The Ataris), the single has already received local praise from AZCentral, Phoenix New Times, and Fox Ten Phoenix. “I didn’t want to explain away the song with a convoluted storyline,” Louise says of the video (directed by Jeremy Tremp). “The song means one thing to me, but I wanted anyone to be able to apply it to their situation and the video doesn’t rob you of ‘your’ meaning. It also shows off our hometown, where I believe you always end up in shitty times. Also, I’ll take any chance to drive a cool car.

“No One Can Suffer Like I Can” is available on all digital retailers here.

It’s been roughly one year since Thrice released To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere, an album filled with social and political ideologies.  In the past year a lot has changed in the United States.  I spoke with some of the band earlier in the day and they said new music is being written.  It will be interesting to see what Thrice is able to create now that so many things are volatile in our country.

Thrice is currently on tour supporting the co-headlining tour with Rise Against and Deftones.  Click on any photo below to open the gallery and scroll below the photos to watch the music video for “Hurricane”.
