This was the first time I had seen Mastodon since 2009 and they were every bit as engaging and technically sound as I remember. The Atlanta band took the Blackcraft stage on day one of Aftershock to a sweaty and dust covered crowd in Sacramento. The band featured many songs from their latest album Emperor of Sand (which is fantastic by the way) and are currently on tour with Eagles of Death Metal and Russian Circles. Currently on tour promoting their latest album Hydrograd, Stone Sour took to the main stage on day one of Aftershock in Sacramento, CA. Filled with confetti and inflatable tube men, the band performed many of their new songs while encouraging as much headbanging and singing from the crowd as possible. What many people were calling one of the best sounding sets of the day, Halestorm took the main stage on day two of Aftershock. Click on any photo below to open the gallery and scroll below the photos to watch the music video for “I Am The Fire”.
Things are picking up again for A Perfect Circle. Just a week after releasing their newest song “The Doomed”, they would then perform the song for the first time live at Aftershock. As online footage of the performance is starting to popup on YouTube, it’s worth it to point out that the song sounds just as impressive as the studio recording. A new album is anticipated from A Perfect Circle in 2018. Hopefully it will be released sooner than later.

They were the perfect drug. It was my first time seeing Nine Inch Nails live let alone shooting them. It was hard to make out so close with the smoke and strobes, but I heard every single note. It was impressive to hear just how good Nine Inch Nails sounded while seeing the silhouettes move frantically to make every song work seamlessly.

SILVER SNAKES DEBUT COVER OF MINISTRY’S “BURNING INSIDE” AT REVOLVERMAG.COM
NEW COVERS EP, ‘SCATHE,’ ON TOMORROW VIA EVIL INK RECORDS
October 19, 2016 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles’ dark-rock band Silver Snakes has teamed today with RevolverMag.com to debut their cover of Ministry’s cult favorite song “Burning Inside.” The song is featured on the band’s new EP called Scathe, which will be released tomorrow with Evil Ink Records.
“The idea to cover Ministry came up early on. Those guys are from a time where music wasn’t about playing it safe and that is a mindset I’d love to see make a return. Burning Inside seemed like a perfect, chaotic song we could pull off as a cover but when it came down to it, the music lent itself to a change of pace in our writing style. We slowed it down and piled on layer after layer of filth and desperation. Really hope we make uncle Al proud with this one.” – Alex Estrada (vocals)
Silver Snakes’ new record Scathe pays tribute to bands that have inspired and influenced their sound and tastes over the years, including covers of tracks by Duran Duran, Garbage and Ministry. The record also features a new original song “Follow Your Lead” and a remix of their song “Charmer” (Nexialist X L.A. Wombat Remix).
“The idea behind Scathe was to be a bridge between our last release, Saboteur, and the direction we have been moving in while writing new material. We chose three different songs by artists that have had influence on us over the years, “Come Undone” by Duran Duran, “#1 Crush” by Garbage, and “Burning Inside” by Ministry. Along with these songs we have included a brand new track, Follow Your Lead, as well as a Remix of the song “Charmer” off of our previous album. Scathe was arranged and self produced in the summer of 2017 in various hotel rooms while on tour as well as The Earth Capital in Los Angeles, CA. It was then Mastered by Greg Reely (Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly). We have already begun work on a new full length recording to be released some time in 2018. We’ll see you soon.” – Alex Estrada (vocals)
The track is the first music to be heard from the multi-platinum outfit’s highly anticipated 2018 full-length.
“Fourteen years have passed since we released eMOTIVe,” said Maynard James Keenan. “A new release is long overdue. In light of this current difficult and polarized social, spiritual and political climate, we artist types need to open our big mouths and share the light a little louder.”
“Years of life experience has brought our music to this moment,” added Billy Howerdel. “We know where we came from. Deeply connected to the path we’re on.”
A Perfect Circle recently announced they had signed a worldwide recording deal with BMG and are in the studio working with producer Dave Sardy on the follow-up to 2004’s eMOTIVe. “The Doomed” arrives as A Perfect Circle kick off the second leg of their first North American tour in six years, launching on Oct. 21 at the Aftershock festival.
