It still feels weird to say that Underoath is back, but they are and they are back in a big way. The band performed on day one of Welcome To Rockville on the Monster Energy stage and will be going on their headlining tour over the next few months. In an interview with Chris and Tim, they talked about working on the new songs and getting the kinks out. The band opened up with “It Has To Start Somwhere” and everything sounded smooth to me. I found out for myself that the hype was real for Greta Van Fleet. This was the first time I saw all of a Greta Van Fleet performance and their raw sound that permeates from the Black Smoke Rising EP is equally clear in their live performance. I spoke with Jake Kiszka after their set and a new album is coming soon along with more touring this summer. Stone Temple Pilots are one of the bands I never thought I’d get to see live. It just never seemed possible with all the events that happened with the band throughout the past 20+ years. The two things I took out of seeing STP’s performance at Welcome To Rockville was: 1.) Jeff Gutt was the perfect choice to be the voice of the band in 2018, and; 2.) there are many people still clamoring for more from Stone Temple Pilots. Performing both the big songs from the 90’s and new songs from the band’s latest self-titled relase, it appears that Stone Temple Pilots are ready to continue forward and see how much of the current rock world they can cement themselves in. This was my first time experiencing Quicksand and it really hit me just how bass-heavy of a band this is. That is meant as a compliment also. You definitely feel the immersion when you hear Quicksand live thank to Sergio Vega. It was last year that Quicksand returned with their first full album Interiors after more than 20 years.
