Album Review: Alkaline Trio – Is This Thing Cursed?

A review on Is This Thing Cursed?, the ninth full album from Alkaline Trio.

Alkaline Trio is an American punk rock band from McHenry, Illinois. The band consists of guitarist and lead vocalist Matt Skiba, bassist and co-vocalist Dan Andriano, and drummer Derek Grant. Founded in late 1996 by Skiba, bassist Rob Doran, and drummer Glenn Porter, Alkaline Trio released its debut single, “Sundials“, in 1997. Following its release, Doran departed from the band and was replaced by Andriano. The band subsequently recorded an EP, For Your Lungs Only (1998), and its debut studio album, Goddamnit (1998). Following the release of the band’s second album, Maybe I’ll Catch Fire(2000), Porter left the band and was replaced by Mike Felumlee for its subsequent album, From Here to Infirmary (2001).

Is This Thing Cursed? is the upcoming ninth studio album by American punk rock band Alkaline Trio, set to be released on August 31, 2018 on Epitaph Records. Produced and mixed by Cameron Webb, the album was announced alongside the release of the lead single, “Blackbird”.

Internationally acclaimed rock band Stone Sour has released the deluxe edition of their acclaimed 2017 LP, HYDROGRAD which is available today at all DSPs and www.stonesour.com.  The two-disc set, HYDROGRAD DELUXE EDITION, collects unreleased covers, b-sides, live recordings and alternate versions of songs fromHYDROGRAD.

The deluxe edition is highlighted by “Burn One Turn One,” a previously unreleased b-side from HYDROGRAD, as well 13 rare or unreleased songs including an acoustic version of the #1 rock song “Song #3,” as well as covers of hits from Rage Against The Machine, Soundgarden and Van Halen.

Stone Sour are currently on a massive U.S. tour supporting Ozzy Osbourne as special guests on his “No More Tours 2” headline run.  The cross-country trek is set to run through October 13th where it will wrap-up with a performance at Las Vegas, Nevada’s MGM Grand (see attached itinerary).  For complete details and ticket availability, please visit www.stonesour.com/tour.

HYDROGRAD, the acclaimed 2017 LP from Stone Sour, rocketed onto the charts upon release, debuting at #1 on three Billboard charts: “Top Current Albums,” “Top Rock Albums,” and “Top Hard Rock Albums.”  HYDROGRAD also debuted at #8 on the “Billboard 200,” marking the band’s fifth consecutive Top 10 debut on that chart.  Furthermore, HYDROGRAD debuted at #5 in the U.K. (the band’s highest debut ever in that country), #2 in Australia (highest debut ever), and was Top 5 in Germany, Japan, and Switzerland.  The album features the ruminative single “St. Marie,” “Rose Red Violent Blue (This Song Is Dumb & So Am I),” which broke into the Top 10 at Active Rock Radio, and the smash “Song #3”, which was #1 for five straight weeks on U.S. Active Rock Radio chart.

Stone Sour unleashed their eponymous debut album in 2002 and was immediately confirmed as one of the most significant hard rock outfits of the 21st century. The self-titled release earned RIAA gold certification while singles “Get Inside” and “Inhale” each received GRAMMY® Award nominations for “Best Metal Performance.”

COME WHAT(EVER) MAY followed in 2006 and proved an even greater accomplishment with a top 5 debut on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 and a #1 entry onto Billboard’s “Rock Albums” chart. The acclaimed album spawned still another GRAMMY®-nominated single in “30/30-150” on its own way to RIAA gold certification. COME WHAT(EVER) MAY unleashed a series of rock radio classics, including “Sillyworld,” “Made of Scars,” the #1 hit, “Through Glass,” which spent seven weeks atop Billboard’s “Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks” while also reaching #2 on “Alternative Songs” and the top 40 on the overall “Hot 100.” The song’s companion video was also a favorite, now with over 60 million individual views at YouTube alone.

Stone Sour’s 2012 LPs, the monumental HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES – PART 1 and HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES – PART 2, both made top 10 debuts on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 just six months apart from one another – the band’s third and fourth consecutive top 10 chart entries. The two-part concept album yielded a string of multi-format rock radio hits, including the top 5 favorites “Absolute Zero,” “Do Me A Favor,” and “Tired,” the latter of which ascended to #1 at Mainstream Rock outlets nationwide.

HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES drew widespread critical applause with ArtistDirect hailing “PART 1” as “a milestone for Stone Sour and for modern rock music. It’s on par with Alice In Chains’ ‘DIRT,’ Metallica’s MASTER OF PUPPETS, Queens of the Stone Age’s SONGS FOR THE DEAF, Soundgarden’s SUPERUNKNOWN, and any other game-changing albums you can think of.” HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES – PART 2 earned equally great acclaim, including placement on Revolver’s “Top 20 Albums of 2013” and Loudwire’s “Top 10 Rock + Metal Albums of 2013” ranking. The Guardian, in its four-out-of-five starred rave, praised Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor’s “remarkable transformation into heavy music’s premier polymath and renaissance man” while further hailing the album’s “towering melodies and moments of radio-friendly majesty, the band’s trademark straddling of the divide between metal and commercial rock sounding increasingly adroit.”

2015 saw the arrival of STRAIGHT OUTTA BURBANK, an unprecedented EP in which Stone Sour take on five immortal songs originally performed by such iconic artists as Bad Brains, Iron Maiden, The Rolling Stones, Mötley Crüe, and Slayer. The EP is highlighted by a stunning rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” featuring distinctive guest vocals from Lzzy Hale of Atlantic recording group Halestorm, STRAIGHT OUTTA BURBANK is available now at all DSPs and streaming services.

Stone Sour is: Corey Taylor (vocals), Josh Rand (guitar), Roy Mayorga (drums), Johny Chow (bass), and Christian Martucci (guitar).

A visceral vortex of animalistic rage and extreme sonic brilliance, Head Cage is a true work of extreme metal art, that with the addition of a bass player, is hands down their most dynamic and heaviest recording to date. Across twelve tracks, PIG DESTROYER weave together harrowing tales of philosophical dualities, touching on mortality and depression, fear and violence, and the darkest complexities of the human condition, all told through the distorted lens of delightfully transgressive vocalist/lyricist JR Hayes. Musically, the band continues to push the boundaries of metal, grindcore, noise and punk, ramping up the intensity and leaving you bludgeoned in a state of utter shock, all in less than 33 minutes.

Head Cage was recorded by guitarist Scott Hull at Visceral Sound Studios, mixed and mastered by Will Putney (Exhumed, Every Time I Die, Body Count) and features striking artwork by Mark McCoy (Full of Hell, Nothing) along with guest vocal appearances by Agoraphobic Nosebleed’s Richard Johnson and Kat Katz plus Full Of Hell’s Dylan Walker. PLAY AT MAXIMUM VOLUME!

Tilian (Pearson of Dance Gavin Dance) Shares New Video For “Hold On” From Upcoming Album The Skeptic

TILIAN (PEARSON) SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR “HOLD ON”

FORTHCOMING ALBUM, THE SKEPTIC, DUE 9/28 – AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER HERE

CURRENTLY ON NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOUR

This month, Dance Gavin Dance frontman, Tilian (Pearson), released two brand new singles, “Cocky” and “Hold On.” Today, Tilian is pleased to unveil the accompanying music video to “Hold On,” which explores two different father-son dynamics within a family. Watch it HERE.

According to Tilian, “ ‘Hold On’ is about mutually surrendering yourself to another person. Sometimes even when you are close to someone, you put up barriers of isolation and duplicity that inevitably lead to you having to lie to yourself. An honest relationship with even just one person can be extremely fulfilling.”

“The music video for ‘Hold On’ uses imagery of the relationship between a father and son, spanning thirty years. Moments of intense pleasure juxtaposed by the fear and shock of loss will hopefully produce the emotional satisfaction of a streamlined, three-minute classical tragedy,” he adds.

Tilian’s third full-length effort, The Skepticis due for release on Friday, September 28th via Rise Records. Comprised of 10 tracks, including standout singles “Cocky” and “Hold On,” the album offers a blend of infectious pop-punk and indie-pop tracks. Fans can pre-order the record HERE.

Bad Wolves Joined By Special Guests Onstage This Weekend (Video)

BAD WOLVES FRONTMAN TOMMY VEXT CELEBRATES

BIGGEST ROCK TOUR OF THE YEAR

SPECIAL GUESTS ANGEL VIVALDI AND “MOMMA VEXT”

JOIN BAND ON STAGE FOR PERFORMANCE OF“ZOMBIE”

Bad Wolves were joined by two very special guests this weekend at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey while on the biggest rock tour of the summer.

Prior to the performance of the band’s platinum single “Zombie,” frontman Tommy Vext introduced shredding instrumentalist Angel Vivaldi on guitar, later to be joined by his mother on stage in a special moment.

A video of the performance can be found here (credit: Randy Edwards).

“Tonight will forever go down as one of the greatest moments I’ve ever had on stage when my mother came out to sing ‘Zombie’ with me in front of all of our friends and family at the PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey. Momma Vext was the lead vocalist in the church choir every Christmas, so you may say it runs in the family,” Vext reflected in an instagram post following the performance.

He adds, “I love you, mom. You’re everything that is the best in me. Thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Thank you for teaching me patience and grace under fire. Thank you for reminding me that life is an occasion when we rise to it.”

Bad Wolves have seen a banner year as the breakout rock band of 2018. Coming off their platinum single, “Zombie,” the band’s latest single “Hear Me Now” (featuring Diamante) is rising towards the Top 10 on the Active Rock radio charts.

Bad Wolves are currently wrapping up their summer tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, and Nothing More. The band will continue to tour extensively throughout the end of the year, including a trek across Europe with Three Days Grace this fall, joining Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, and From Ashes to New on their U.S. Fall arena tour, and an arena tour through Canada this winter with Three Days Grace and Nothing More. We Came As Romans Statement // Kyle Pavone

WE CAME AS ROMANS STATEMENT:

Today, music lost another great with the passing of Kyle Pavone of We Came as Romans. Kyle’s tragic loss came too early in his life and those of his bandmates. All are devastated by his passing. We will miss his smiles, his sincerity, his concern for others, and his impressive musical talent. In lieu of flowers, we will provide information regarding charity donations this coming week. The family and the band wish to thank their fans and the music community for all of their love and support as they navigate their grief.

“Will I Be Remembered or Will I Be Lost in Loving Eyes.”

___

This is never easy to hear and it’s becoming all to common.  We Came As Romans was one of the first bands to give me a chance at interviews at a festival when I had no idea what I was doing.  Kyle and the band laughed as we all had the idea for him to do the crazy responses the entire time.

More information will be coming out soon enough.  Until then, respect the band’s privacy and keep an eye out for donations from the band’s social media accounts.

Album Review: Alice In Chains – Rainier Fog

A review on Rainier Fog, the sixth full studio album Alice In Chains.

Alice in Chains is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1987 by guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney, who then recruited bassist Mike Starr and lead vocalist Layne Staley. Starr was replaced by Mike Inez in 1993. William DuVall joined the band in 2006 as co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, replacing Staley, who died in 2002. The band took its name from Staley’s previous group, the glam metal band Alice N’ Chains.

Rainier Fog is the sixth studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on August 24, 2018 through BMG, the band’s first release on the label. The title was inspired by Mount Rainier in Seattle, and the title track is a tribute to the Seattle music scene. This is the band’s third album with William DuVall as lead vocalist sharing vocals duties with Jerry Cantrell, and the first Alice in Chains album in 22 years to be recorded in their hometown of Seattle. The album was partially recorded at Seattle’s Studio X (formerly Bad Animals Studios), the same studio where the band recorded their 1995 self-titled albumRainier Fog is also Alice in Chains’ third collaboration with Nick Raskulinecz, making it the first time they had recorded more than two full-length studio albums with the same producer.

Kaleido release new single & video “My Enemy”, hit the road on Summer Soul Collection Tour

The trials and tribulations of being Rock N’ Roll survivors in an ever-changing Music business has made Stalwart Detroit Rockers Kaleido stronger and tougher, and that is reflected in their muscular new single “My Enemy, which was produced by Johnny K (3 Doors Down, Disturbed, Pop Evil, Megadeth, Adelitas Way). They are on the road as part of the Summer Soul Collection Tour with September Mourning to support the release, which is now available on all streaming and sales sites.

Kaleido have been pounding away as an independent Rock band for the last 6 years, releasing 2 EPs and an album independently, while touring constantly.   They’ve opened for notable bands like Seether, Halestorm, Rob Zombie and Evanescence; and they kicked off 2018 with two performances on the Shiprocked cruise.  Recently they played a handful of dates on the final Vans Warped tour.

Comprised of Christina Chriss (vocals), Joey Fava (drums), Ronnie Rosolino (Guitar), and Cody Morales (bass) Kaleido is a fresh, modern day incarnation of Detroit Rock N’ Roll: a straight-up, piss-and-vinegar band. Their authentic and memorable songs are highlighted by a dynamic show, which has garnered them accolades on the live music circuit.

Detroit Media has taken notice: Kaleido was a featured performer on WDIV-TV (NBC) Detroit 2017 Annual Fireworks Telecast, and has also been featured on local PBS show Metro Arts and CBS 62’s local music coverage. They were named Best Band in Detroit by Real Detroit Weekly in 2013 & 2014, and won two Detroit Music Awards in 2015 for “Outstanding Rock/Pop Group” and “Outstanding Rock Recording” for their second independent EP ‘Unbreakable’. Kaleido was nominated again in 2017 for their album “Experience” and won “Outstanding Heavy Rock Group”.

Their “Experience” album helped grow their fan base both in the US and abroad, debuting @ #11 on Soundscan Top New Artists Albums and #37 on the Top Current Rock Albums chart. The album was tapped as “New and Noteworthy” @ iTunes and Amazon Music and spawned the Active Rock charting “Die Tryin’ – which made it into the Loudwire Video “Battle Royale” Hall of Fame by remaining at #1 for 5 straight weeks.
