Following the release of the powerful new song and music video for “NEW WEST ORDER”released in June, Grammy nominated rock band, FEVER 333, are following it up with “HIGHER POWER” – a rally cry to the contributions of Black, Brown, and Asian people to the nation and call for reparations – its chorus reinforces the message of empowerment and unity, encouraging listeners to embrace and share this inherent strength. Its music video invites you to a FEVER Function, hosted in a church in South Central, Los Angeles, led by Jason Aalon Butler.
“There are no diamonds to be produced without pressure,” says Butler on the new song. “No lessons to learn without trials. “HIGHER POWER” revolves around these ideas and reveres the beauty in the adversity induced magic performed by marginalized communities. To exist in a world that challenges your very existence every day to some degree is one of the most magical acts I have ever witnessed. Here is my 2:43 soundtrack offering to that act.”

Oklahoma City noise rock quartet Chat Pile have returned with their follow up to 2022’s breakout album God’s Country with Cool World, the new 10-song LP set for release on October 11th via The Flenser [pre-order].
Besides being the name of a largely forgotten (and panned) 90s film, Cool World makes for an apt title of Chat Pile’s sophomore full-length record. In the context of a Chat Pile record, the words are steeped in a grim double entendre that not only evokes imagery of a dying planet but a progression from the band’s previous work, moving the scope of its depiction of modern malaise from just “God’s Country” to the entirety of humankind. “’Cool World‘ covers similar themes to our last album, except now exploded from a micro to macro scale, with thoughts specifically about disasters abroad, at home, and how they affect one another,” says vocalist Raygun Busch. “If I had to describe the album in one sentence,” Busch continues, “It’s hard not to borrow from Voltaire, so I won’t resist – ‘Cool World‘ is about the price at which we eat sugar in America.”
Today, album opener “I Am Dog Now” arrives with a music video directed by Will Mecca. Stin (bass, Chat Pile) says, “Will’s vision captures the essence of ‘I Am Dog Now’ by channeling his specific style of low-fi, exploitation cinema aesthetic into a dusty, religious bad-trip exclusive to the southern plains of America. Eagle eyed viewers may actually notice shots of the literal chat piles from which we take our name.”
Like the towering mounds of toxic waste, the music of Chat Pile is a suffocating, grotesque embodiment of the existential anguish that has defined the 21st Century. It figures that a band with this abrasive, unrelenting, and outlandish of a sound has stuck as strong of a chord as it has. Dread has replaced the American dream, and Chat Pile’s music is a poignant reminder of that shift – a portrait of an American rock band molded by a society defined by its cold and cruel power systems.
Though very much on-brand with Chat Pile’s signature flavor of cacophonous, sludgy noise rock, the band’s shift to a global thematic focus on Cool World not only compliments the broader experimentations it employs with their songwriting but also how they dissect the album’s core theme of violence.
Melded into the band’s twisted foundational sound are traces of other eclectic genre stylings, with examples of gazy, goth-tinged dirges to abrasive yet anthemic alt/indie-esque hooks and off-kilter metal grooves only scratching the surface of what can be heard in the album’s ten tracks. “While we wanted our follow-up to ‘God’s Country’ to still capture the immediate, uncompromising essence of Chat Pile, we also knew that with ‘Cool World,’ we’d want to stretch the definition of our ‘sound’ to reflect our tastes beyond just noise rock territory,” reflects bassist Stin. “Now that we had some form of creative comfort zones in place after hitting that milestone of putting out a full-length record, album #2 felt like the perfect opportunity to challenge those limits.” Besides stylistically stretching the boundaries of the Chat Pile sound, Cool World is also the band’s first record to have someone else handle mixing duties, with Ben Greenberg of Uniform (Algiers, Drab Majesty, Metz) capturing and further amplifying the quartet’s unmistakably outsider and folk-art edge.
The proverbial thread tying all of the experimentation on Cool World together is the depth to which Chat Pile dissects the album’s theme of violence, and the record itself is apocalyptically bleak. Sure, Chat Pile’s debut album was plenty disturbing with its B-movie-inspired interpretation of a “real American horror story”; what Chat Pile depicts on Cool World is unsettling not just from its visceral noise rock onslaught, but from depicting how all sorts of atrocities are pretty much standard parts of modern existence.
Cool World will be released via The Flenser on October 11, 2024. See Chat Pile on the road this November with label mates Agriculture and Mamaleek in select markets – tickets will be available at chatpile.net/shows and general on-sale is Friday, July 19th at 10am local time. More news soon.

VENDED‘s fresh and furious sound heralds a new era of heavy music and the arrival of the next generation of brutality. Formed in February 2018 by Cole Espeland (lead guitar), Griffin Taylor (vocals), Simon Crahan (drums), Jeremiah Pugh (bass) and Connor Grodzicki (rhythm guitar), VENDED showcase a barbarous sound built on foundations laid by the power and precision of the rhythm section, layered with vicious guitars, soul crushing solos and guttural-yet-melodic vocals portraying the hardships and harsh realities of life.
Last year, singer-songwriter, composer and producer Max Enix achieved critical acclaim with Far from Home, a multi-genre concept album further accentuated by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, which centers around the bleakness of modern society and subsequently, hope for future generations. Currently, Enix is working on not just one, but two follow-up albums: Beauty in Darkness and Ocean of Light. The two albums work in unison, each starkly contrasting in style and theme, and are slated for release in 2026.
Enix was excited to share exclusive details to Rocked about his new material, including its multimedia interactivity and thought-provoking messages, as well as express his bond with his collaborators, singer Niklas Kvarforth and rapper Michael Onetwenty.
Country rock with a continuation of Hardy singing from the heart about alcohol, and bars, and exes blocking him, and collaborations to prove he has friends. Quit!! plays to the tropes of country music while barely resembling country rock with some sludgy guitars. Along with awful production issues that makes each song sound flat, I can honestly say Quit!! offers nothing of substance musically, and lyrically it’s as dumb as a drank Jack Daniels bottle on top of a dictionary. It might think it’s tricking people that it’s smart, but it’s just empty with a bunch of hollow words. The guitar work is less exciting than his previous double release, and the collaborations range from boring to flat out offensively bad. When it gets to Fred Durst slowly dropping bars and Hardy singing about selling his soul, I felt my own soul leave my body. The targeted audience pandering, the ham-fisted writing, the awful sound, everything is rough and a bad look on country rock. Fun fact, Quit!! is the album title and also what I shouted several times while listening. 2/10
“Country-rock singer HARDY released his highly anticipated new album “Quit!!” today, marking a bold shift in his musical direction. The artist, known for blending country and rock elements, has faced criticism for his evolving sound and alleged pandering to different audiences. Some fans and critics argue that HARDY’s music strays too far from traditional country, with his latest album leaning heavily into rock territory. However, HARDY maintains that “Quit!!” still contains country elements, staying true to his Mississippi roots. The album’s title track showcases HARDY’s conflicted relationship with the country music formula, as he attempts to push boundaries while navigating industry expectations. Despite the mixed reactions, HARDY’s ability to straddle multiple genres continues to spark debate about the evolving nature of country music and its intersection with rock.” (Perplexity)

By all accounts, it’s a large-scale collaboration rounded out by a collection of superstar talent from various acts within Christian, prog rock and power metal spaces.
Last Friday, the group released their debut album, The Crucible, a sci-fi thriller rock opera set in 2142. The album showcases vignettes of several characters, its central character an American eccentric tech genius named Jude Solomon. As the head of an innovative prosthetics company called Ichor, which infuses patients with a similarly named serum designed to heal all ailments and diseases, he earns near-universal backing for his breakthrough. Amid this success, he develops a savior complex and strives to achieve worldwide immortality by merging humanity with machinery. Through his cult of personality, he urges his followers to adopt a singular truth – that his technology is essential to the world’s survival. At the same time, they must accept him as their savior. In turn, he seeks to eliminate those in opposition to his plight – the non-believers, or, more specifically, those who still practice old-world beliefs.
Contextually, the opening track, “Ichor,” contains a singing dialogue involving Solomon recruiting Michael, a trained assassin from Project Talos, as his messenger, with promises that their alliance will grant him unimaginable power. The chord sequence works well in bolstering the calculated nature of Solomon’s plan, while Michael’s words (sung by DC Cooper of Royal Hunt) demonstrate the impact that Solomon’s influence has on him. The harmonic duet in the chorus effectively emphasizes their forged alliance, with its solo work – fluid as it is fluent – complementing this triumph. After an electronic-inflected transition in “Legion Program,” the album is punctuated by its carrier single, “I Am God.” Alongside its hook factor in the riffs and backbeat, I like how its chorus ends in a subtle scream, as if to reveal a dormant monster behind a show of consistent nobility.
The fourth track, “The Golden Crown,” deals with the construction of a new city called Babylon, the central utopia cementing his philosophy. In this song, a new character is introduced, Princess Relena Umberto, who hails from Rome. With a manufactured disposition at an early age, she is equally cunning as she is beautiful. Her goal is to restore royalty to her family name, and Solomon promises her that her royalty will be restored in Babylon, while she will benefit from associating with someone of immense power and influence. In doing so, she begins a romantic relationship with Michael. The halfway part of the song characterizes their developing bond by both guitar and vocal solos, both expressed in their own unique way. After the arrangements complete, what follows is the implication that their bond is brimming with passion and intensity to the point where Michael begins to question his identity as an assassin, and wrestles to figure out whether he has genuine feelings for her or is simply being manipulated into serving Solomon. On the fifth track, “The Crucible”, which features Barren Cross vocalist Michael Lee Drive alongside DC Cooper, colossal damage is inflicted by a meteor shower that occurs shortly after Solomon’s breakthrough. But when a wary Pope John, another Roman who made his way to America, joins with resistance forces, Solomon sees them as an immediate threat. In response, he encourages a genocide against the faithful, ironically asserting that religion’s primary purpose is war. As alluded to by the title, Michael’s inner conflict with his identity amplifies after being confronted by Pope John. The album’s midpoint is defined by “Two Witnesses” (featuring Sacred Warrior vocalist Rey Parra), where the performances become longer and more involved, and the stylistic showcase of electronic textures and overdriven guitars emphasize the divide between potentially limitless technology versus struggling, yet resilient faith. Two disciples of God, Moses and Ellie, appear before Michael, further informing him of Solomon’s evil ways, and though he initially tries to maintain his stance as an assassin, he now sounds noticeably hesitant. Like the previous track, there is solid solo-laden interplay between the instrumentation, with guitar and keyboard leads played in smooth, but powerful succession.
At the latter half of the album, Michael learns of Jude Solomon’s hypocrisy behind his nobility upon being handed a bible from The Stranger. In “Change of Heart Part 1,” which features Bloodgood vocalist Les Carlsen alongside DC Cooper, Michael becomes more receptive to changing his ways. Rather than be pushed into believing in something that’s not easily understandable, he makes a choice independently to accept Christ into his heart. He also recognizes the true extent of his love for Relena, feeling an obligation to save her from Solomon’s oppression. Rather than take the easy route and go after Solomon, his advisor, Casimir Agnus, and the Ichor Soldier, he is crucified (“Ultimatum”, “A Small Price To Pay”). Just as well, the nuance in the songs’ execution becomes more apparent when highlighting the strength of Michael’s resolve. The ninth track, “We Are Weak,” for instance, derives its inspiration from both classic and modern iterations of “Jesus Loves Me.” The first, which comprises the song’s initial half, is a poem to a dying child (the child, in essence, is Michael), with gentle, yet simultaneously bleak, almost haunting accompaniment, and the second half is an empowering – and rocking hymn. In a similar way, “Change of Heart Part 2” highlights Princess Relena’s journey of faith, while gaining newfound purpose after noticing the death of a little girl’s mother. On the final track, In the “Book of Life,” the group barely escapes Solomon’s destruction, finding solace Relena grows a faint bond with the girl and takes her in, all the while the characters head back to Rome. The heaviness this time around feels rightfully subdued, conveying a mix of emotions. While the state of the world is bleak and dystopian, the group eventually finds safety there is also a glimmer of hope that faith will prevail in the face of insurmountable odds.
Overall, The Crucible has strong hook factor, not only by its guest spots and musicianship, but its characters. It is a story of not only choosing faith and love amid catastrophic circumstances, but the transformation of two people who abandon their cold, calculated upbringings and develop empathy and compassion for others. Even though ‘I’ve reached the end, I’m invested and feel the story can and should be continued.
