Photos: SLOTHRUST at Aftershock in Sacramento, CA 10/14/2018

On day two at the Capital Stage, Boston’s Slothrust brought their gritty alt rock to a crowd that was ready for a long day of sun and shenanigans.  This was my first time seeing Slothrust live and what captivated me most was the ability of all three band members to totally be absorbed in the music.  All while playing under a highway overpass.

This is the type of band that people need to see more of.  A group of musicians that are about the basics and making music without insane backtracks and modding effects in the sound.  This is raw and real and you can hear it from them.  Slothrust’s latest album The Pact came out last month and that sound also is heard there.

Slothrust is currently touring through the US.  You can find tour dates on their Facebook page here: Slothrust on Facebook

Set for Monday, December 31 at The Forumin Los Angeles, the event features headliner OZZY OSBOURNE and a line-up of some of the greatest names in rock (and OZZFEST alumni): Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, and Jonathan Davis (of Korn), along with the OZZFEST debut of Body Count featuring Ice-T. The evening will conclude with OSBOURNE onstage counting down to the new year!

“I asked Sharon what we’re doing this New Year’s Eve and she said ‘WE’RE DOING FUCK ALL!” says OZZY OSBOURNE. So I thought ‘we didn’t do Ozzfest in 2018, so let’s do a New Year’s Eve Ozzfest.'”

“What better way to celebrate New Year’s Eve than with some of the greatest performers in this genre and our longtime friends Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Jonathan Davis and Ice T,” says Sharon Osbourne.

Tickets for the Live Nation-produced OZZFEST 2018 go on sale Friday, October 26 at 10:00 AM (PT) here. Ticket prices range from $49.50 for general admission to $179.50 for a reserved seat. VIP packages are also available, details of which can be found at www.ozzfest.com.

Silverstein Announce Second Leg of “When Broken Is Easily Fixed” Anniversary Tour Dates for Winter 2019

SILVERSTEIN ANNOUNCE SECOND LEG OF WHEN BROKEN IS EASILY FIXED 15TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR SET FOR JANUARY 2019

FIRST LEG KICKS OFF NOVEMBER 9 IN DETROIT
BAND TO PERFORM TWO SETS EACH NIGHT
SPECIAL GUESTS INCLUDE HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS, AS CITIES BURN, & CAPSTAN

Silverstein have confirmed the second leg of the 15th anniversary tour celebrating their landmark debut album When Broken Is Easily Fixed. The additional leg takes place in early 2019.

The first leg kicks off November 9 in Detroit and runs through December 16 in Toronto in the band’s native Canada. The second leg is slated to begin on January 9 in Quebec and runs through January 31 in Las Vegas.

Silverstein will also perform two sets on this run. One set will feature the band performing When Broken Is Easily Fixed in full, followed by a second set of “greatest hits.”

Special guests on both legs are Hawthorne Heights, As Cities Burn, and Capstan.

“As hard as we work on pushing forward with our new music, it’s fun to reminisce and I think important to give some love and respect to the music that started it all for us and the fans who have supported us since the beginning,” said singer Shane Told previously said about the anniversary tour. “We’ve never been a band to tear down or insult our older material, and I’ve always said we will always show it the respect it deserves. This tour is doing exactly that.”

Told continued, “It’s going to be an emotional ride for sure. But I know we’ll all have smiles on our faces the whole time. It brings us back to an era of innocence and excitement, getting into our beat up van with the heat permanently stuck on, and driving all over America for the first time.”

He finished, “We’re going to be able to do things, production-wise, we simply couldn’t have done 15 years ago because we didn’t have the budget — and in some cases the technology wasn’t there yet. This is going to be the best you’ve seen our band — we’re pulling out all the stops.”

Interview with KYNG at Aftershock 2018

After performing on the Vinnie Paul Tribute show at Aftershock, Eddie and Pepe of Kyng talk about some of their favorite Vinnie memories, their picks for the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction, and what they have coming up in the future.

Kyng is a Los Angeles-based stoner metal band consisting of Eddie Veliz (vocals, guitar), Tony Castaneda (bass, backup vocals), and Pepe Clarke (drums). The group formed in 2008 and their debut release, Trampled Sun, was released on September 27, 2011 on Realid Records. The band signed to Razor & Tie Records in August 2013 and the trio released their second album, Burn The Serum, on April 15, 2014. Burn The Serum was recorded at Grandmaster Recorders LTD and Sword & Shield in Hollywood, California and Studio 606 in Northridge, California. James Rota and Andrew Alekel co-produced the album. Rota is known for Fireball Ministry while Alekel is known for his work on Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age recordings. The band released their third full length studio album, Breathe in the Water, on October 7, 2016 on Razor & Tie Records.

Photos: AVATAR at Pop’s in Sauget, IL 10/20/2018

It is difficult to get a crowd of over one thousand to chant a band’s name at the end of a performance, but Avatar was able to hear that in Sauget, IL.  Currently on The Sin And The Sentence Tour with Trivium, the world’s favorite Swedish metal circus (or I’m calling them that anyway) were able to get a crowd riled up from the opening of “Hail The Apocalypse” & “What I Don’t Know”, all the way to the closing moments of “Tower”.

One of the better moments of the show came between songs with Johannes kept trying to pronounce the name of the town Sauget, calling it everything from “Soggy” to “Saget”.  Even when asking the crowd for a pronunciation, he eventually just said “Thank you, America”.

Avatar’s latest album Avatar Country came out this past January.  You can find more information on the album and check their upcoming tour dates by heading to their Facebook page here: Avatar on Facebook

Interview with GWAR at Aftershock 2018

On day one of Aftershock 2018, GWAR take time before their set to talk about their tour with Hatebreed on the Gore Core Metal and More Tour, their headlining tour later this year, and use a lot of foul expletives.

Gwar, often stylized as GWAR, is an American heavy metal band formed in RichmondVirginia in 1984, composed of and operated by a frequently rotating line-up of musicians, artists and filmmakers collectively known as Slave Pit Inc. Following the death of frontman and lead singer Dave Brockie in 2014, the group has continued without any original members, although Don Drakulich, a non-instrument-performing member of the collective, has been with the band since 1985.

Easily identified by their distinctively grotesque costumes, Gwar’s core thematic and visual concept revolves around an elaborate science fiction-themed mythology which portrays the band members as barbaric interplanetary warriors, a narrative which serves as the basis for all of the band’s albums, videos, live shows and other media. Rife with over-the-top violent and scatological humor typically incorporating social and political satire, Gwar have attracted both acclaim and controversy for their music and stage shows, the latter of which notoriously showcase enactments of graphic violence that result in the audience being sprayed with copious amounts of fake blood. Such stagecraft regularly leads Gwar to be labeled a “shock rock” band by the media.

Since their formation, Gwar have released thirteen studio albums, two live albums, and numerous singles among other recordings, and have sold over 820,000 records in the United States. Fueled largely by the controversies surrounding their concerts, Gwar experienced brief mainstream notoriety during the first half of the 1990s, receiving regular airplay on MTV as well as frequent in-character guest appearances on daytime talk shows, satirizing the topics of censorship and media violence. Though the band’s mainstream popularity declined by the end of the 1990s, Gwar has retained a dedicated cult following. The band’s extensive videography consists of both live recordings and long-form feature films, most notably 1992’s Phallus in Wonderland, which earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Long Form Music Video. Outside of music and video, Gwar has expanded their franchise into comic bookstrading cards, a board game, signature beers, barbecue sauces, and e-liquids.

Ice Nine Kills Drop “Stabbing In the Dark” Video

ICE NINE KILLS DROP “STABBING IN THE DARK VIDEO” — WATCH
NEW ALBUM THE SILVER SCREAM ENJOYS MASSIVE CHART DEBUTS UPON RELEASE
BAND TOURING WITH ATREYU + MEMPHIS MAY FIRE IN NOVEMBER

Ice Nine Kills have dropped the video for “Stabbing in the Dark” from their new album The Silver Scream.

“I am proud to present what I believe to be the most intense installment yet of The Silver Scream film,” said singer Spencer Charnas. “‘Stabbing in the Dark’ is our tribute to John Carpenter’s holy grail of slasher flicks — Halloween. We also combine franchises here with a nod to A Nightmare On Elm Street, as the security guard in the clip is played by the fantastic Ricky Dean Logan. He met his demise in Freddy’s Dead and that particular kill, where he gets his ear cut off, is widely known as Robert Englund’s favorite death in the series.”

“He’s been in everything from horror to Seinfeld to Back to The Future, so I knew he would be able to capture the essence of terror but with an underlying tongue-in-cheek spirit,” he furthered.

“The amazing people at Haunted Overload horror park in Lee, New Hampshire lent their amazing resources to us to make this the most visually stunning episode so far,” the singer finished.

The Silver Scream arrived on Friday, October 5 via Fearless Records. All of the album’s 13 anthems are based on 13 respective horror classics.

The record absolutely exploded onto the charts, moving nearly 19,000 units. The various chart positions, many of which are career high water marks for the band, are below.

#2 Hard Music Albums
#4 Rock Albums
#7 Top Current Albums
#8 Digital Albums
#13 LP Vinyl Albums
#27 Billboard 200

The band will hit the road with Atreyu and Memphis May Fire next month. Those dates are posted below.

ICYMI:
The band and Heavy Consequence also teamed up to premiere the chilling, The Crow-inspired video for “A Grave Mistake.” Watch it here.

INK previously issued the video for “Thank God It’s Friday.” In the clip, the group (and a bunch of unsuspecting teenagers) visit Crystal Lake and that’s when all the trouble ensues. The video is a modern tribute to the classic Friday the 13th slasher series starring machete-wielding horror hero Jason Voorhees. Watch it here.

The band also shared the equally cinematic video for “The American Nightmare” — a twisted and tasteful homage to director Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. The video provides a thematic feast for children of the ’80s who grew up loving Freddie Krueger, the first film, and its sequels. It was directed by Daniel Hourihan and is the first installment of an over-arching film that will be a counterpart to the The Silver Scream. Watch it here.

PRESS PRAISE FOR THE SILVER SCREAM:
“bloody good” — Alternative Press
“ambitious” — Consequence of Sound
” an exhilarating exploration of what metal can be.” — New Noise

“shakes the bones of many a horror fan” — My Global Mind
“one of the loudest, sweatiest, and most energetic sets of metal magic” — Worcester Telegram & Gazette

Photos: INCUBUS at Aftershock in Sacramento, CA 10/14/2018

This was my first time seeing Incubus live, let alone shooting them.  For a band I have known about since the days of Make Yourself, it’s crazy to think that it’s 2018 when I finally get to see them in person.

What stood out to me more than anything was that in a festival full of loud and heavy music, it was Incubus who got everyone to sing along happily and enjoy a serene California afternoon.

While the band had the video boards behind them, it was a bit difficult to see them in the glare of the sun.  That did not dampen the sound however.  It was a solid set and the highlight was the crowd singing along to “Pardon Me”.

Incubus will be playing at the KROQ Halloween Ball in Los Angeles later this month.  You can find more information on their Facebook page here: Incubus on Facebook

Underoath Announce Special Guest Anberlin For 12/14 Tampa Arena Show

UNDEROATH ANNOUNCE SPECIAL GUEST ANBERLIN TO PERFORM AT DECEMBER 14 SHOW AT THE YUENGLING CENTER IN TAMPA, FLORIDA

FALL 2018 NORTH AMERICAN “ERASE ME” TOUR WITH DANCE GAVIN DANCE, CROWN THE EMPIRE + THE PLOT IN YOU KICKS OFF ON NOVEMBER 2

Underoath are incredibly pleased to announce that fellow Floridians Anberlin will reunite to perform as the special guests at the December 14 date at The Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida on the band’s upcoming “Erase Me” headline tour.

Anberlin will be appearing on the final night of the tour, further elevating this show to “can’t miss” status.

The performance marks Underoath’s first-ever headline arena show in their history as a band and it takes place in their beloved hometown.

Since this landmark show serves as their sole appearance in their native Florida this year, Underoath wanted to make it even more special for their longtime and loyal legion of local fans by recruiting Anberlin to appear.

The much-anticipated trek features support from Dance Gavin DanceCrown the Empire, and The Plot In You. It is Underoath’s first major market headline trek in support of Erase Me, out now via Fearless Records.

“We’ve been playing shows in the Tampa area with Anberlin since we were basically kids,” Underoath said.”We knew them coming back to play this hometown show with us was a big ask — but it just felt right. We have said we couldn’t be more pumped to close out the ‘Erase Me’ tour with this show in our hometown. But we’ve been proven wrong.”

“All the Anberlin dudes reconnected over this last year, hung on the beach together, and then, when we got asked to play this show with Underoath, in our hometown, the answer was ‘yeah!,'” said Anberlin drummer Nathan Young. “I mean why wouldn’t we do that? Life is short and we should almost always say ‘yes’ to rad stuff. Plus, we’ve been homies with Underoath for 15-plus years. [Guitarist] Tim [McTague] is my brother-in-law and we’ve never played a proper show together. It’s just way overdue.”

For all tour information, go here.

In other Underoath news, the band just dropped a cinematic video for “ihateit.” Watch the clip here.
