WHILE SHE SLEEPS ANNOUNCE FOURTH ALBUM SO WHAT? ALBUM WILL BE RELEASED MARCH 1 VIA SLEEPS BROTHERS/SPINEFARM RECORDS
LISTEN TO + WATCH VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “ANTI-SOCIAL”
WHILE SHE SLEEPS have announced that their fourth studio album SO WHAT?will be released on March 1 via their own Sleeps Brothers label. They’ve also revealed its first single “Anti-Social.” Listen to the song and watch the video here.
The track is an explosive, relentless four-minute anthem. It takes everything you know and love about While She Sleeps — clattering riffs, bruising breakdowns, snarling lyrics, and big-ass singalongs — and sticks them in a blender. It’s punk, it’s heavy metal, it couldn’t be any other band but them, and yet it sounds unlike anything you’ve heard from them before. It’s the sound of While She Sleeps reborn with the attitude of “We’ve let our hair down and we’ve got our bollocks out. I’m not fucking about. I’m not cutting corners. I’ve been writing like this will be my last album.”
Some bands play it safe when it comes to taking their next steps. But then again — While She Sleeps have never been “some band.”
The Sheffield quintet have made a career out of confounding expectations, be it through their dizzying blend of crushing metal, guttural hardcore and arena-worthy hooks, or the way they’ve carried themselves over an explosive, 13-year career.
Their last album, 2017’s You Are We was a testament to the power of self-belief and determination. It was crowdfunded and released on the band’s own Sleeps Brothers label and earned them award nominations from the likes of Metal Hammer and a Best Album win at the Heavy Music Awards, as well as landing them in the top ten of the UK album charts.
Now, they look to build on that success with the release of fourth studio album: SO WHAT?
“You Are We got us to this special position, and it has given us a platform,” says guitarist Sean Long. “For us, it’s like, ‘What can we do to really stick this in people’s faces? What can we put out there that we’re buzzing off?’ I don’t want to be following everyone else; I want people to follow us.”
Recorded with producer Carl Bown at the band’s self-built studio Sleeps Audio, SO WHAT? promises to be another defiant step forwards. Set for release on Sleeps Brothers in collaboration with metal mega-label Spinefarm, this new record sees While She Sleeps working with a major label again for the first time since 2015’s Brainwashed, and the band are at pains to point out that this won’t mean there’ll be any compromise in their vision.
“We got approached immediately by a bunch of labels, but we turned around to all of them and said, ‘The only way we’re going to do anything is if you let us release it on Sleeps Brothers, but you house that on your train, and we make the decisions behind everything,” guitarist/vocalist Mat Welsh explains. “I fucking loved releasing You Are We ourselves, but at the same time, I played more on my laptop than I did on my guitar for the whole campaign. This release is a partnership between Sleeps Brothers and Spinefarm, but no one is breathing down our necks about the record we’re making or the singles we’re putting out.”
With a bigger platform to get their music into the world and a firestorm of a first single released, 2019 is shaping up to be the year of While She Sleeps. For a band that have spent over a decade redefining modern metal, it seems the best is yet to come.

Brandon Mendenhall and Sebastien Paquet talk about Mind Over Matter, the documentary about Brandon’s struggle to work with cerebral palsy and overcome constant trials to become a musician.
“A young man with cerebral palsy overcomes a paralyzed left hand, bullies, and stereotypes, dreaming of becoming a rock guitarist even while told he will never succeed. His dreams become reality as he leads his own band, inspired by the band Korn to express himself through music.”
Julien-K kicked the night off opening up the Black Labyrinth Tour at Ready Room in St. Louis, MO. with a new electric spin on the popular rock sound. The band is touring along side The Birthday Massacre and Jonathan Davis of Korn.
Ryan Shuck, the singer for Julien-K, told the story of how his band was fortunate enough to be on this tour. Fans of Korn may already know, but Ryan went on to tell of how Jonathan and himself had started a band over 20 years ago that went by the name of “Sexart”. When things took off for Jonathan with Korn he departed from Sexart, and then signed that band who is now known as Julien-K.
The stage lights were turned off and lights were placed by their feet to set the mood for their set. Lights flashed with the electronic drum sounds that shook the venue. Julien-K had great crowd participation and it was obvious that they had some dedicated fans in attendance that night.
Amir Derakh, who was commanding a megaphone and drum pad at the start of the set, was full of energy and swapped his megaphone for a guitar mid set showing his multiple talents.
Julien-K are releasing new music in 2019, be sure to keep up with all of their release dates by following them on Facebook and Twitter.

Jonathan Davis, lead singer of Korn, came to The Ready Room in St. Louis, MO. on October 23rd headlining the Black Labyrinth Tour that started in El Paso, TX. and will be ending in Lexington, KY. The night started off with a VIP meet and greet with the Korn icon himself. Upon arriving to the venue, fans were greeted by a friendly VIP Coordinator and placed inside, so they didn’t have wait in the cold.
Once inside, they were given an autographed Jonathan Davis Black Labyrinth 8×10 Poster and an exclusive Jonathan Davis patch. A fan told us that “Jonathan walked out and was placed behind a wall so fans would have the privacy and intimacy of talking to him. He shook hands, hugged, talked, and thanked every each individual person after their picture was taken. Each fan was happy, shaking, or filled with tears of joy.”
When it came time for Jonathan and his band mates to take the stage, the lights were changed to red and left that way for the whole show, setting the appropriate mood for the set. The band consisted of 4 members, one of which played the upright bass. Being a Korn side project the upright bass was an unforeseen but nice touch to the line up. There was also an amazing drum solo half way through the set that caused fans to jam out and cheer along with him.
Fan favorites for the show included: “Forsaken” (ft. on “Queen of the Damned”) “What You Believe” “System” “What It Is”
311 might be from the midwest but they definitely brought out the vibe of California on a warm Saturday night in Sacramento. It was a different style with just the right amount of energy after hours of hard rock blasting people away.
In front of a sellout crowd, 311 opened with “Freeze Time” and played songs all the way up to their most recent release Mosiac that came out in 2017. The band recently finished up a co-headline tour with The Offspring. You can find more information and upcoming festival performances on their Facebook page here: 311 on Facebook

Outside of Vinnie Paul being a legend behind the kit and being a part of one of the biggest metal bands ever, Vinnie was also loved. After seeing The Vinnie Paul Tribute and hearing so may stories about the man, it’s obvious to see that many people cherished his friendship.
Thanks to Jose Mangin who helped curate and organize all of this, Aftershock 2018 got to see a one time tribute featuring members of Korn, Godsmack, Shinedown, Sevendust, Kyng, Emmure, GWAR, Deftones, and Hellyeah. Along with a video package of many musicians from Corey Taylor to Phil Anselmo sending a message thanking the man, this was a show meant to pay respect and show love to Vinnie.
The set was capped off with “Walk” being sang by Sully Erna and Jonathan Davis, and ended with everyone on stage together singing along with the crowd. I will never forget the crowd screaming along as Vinnie’s family and all the members of the Tribute show gathered together on stage for a group photo.
You can check out some interviews with Kyng and GWAR below talking about Vinnie. Click on any photo below to open the gallery. Thank you again Jose for making all this happen.
