You have to be unique to stand out in the alternative music world.  I think Phantogram are able to do that in a good way.

Greenich, New York’s electronic rock group performed in the hangar on day one at Big Adventure.  While it was dark inside the giant metal dome, the lighting and video board behind them made the band stand out as a moving silhouette and the band took advantage of this.

Phantogram will be performing at the Dusk Music Festival in Arizona this weekend.  You can find more information on their Facebook page here: Phantogram on Facebook.

Dream Theater Return With 14th Studio Album “Distance Over Time”

DREAM THEATER RETURN
WITH 14thSTUDIO ALBUM DISTANCE OVER TIME
SCHEDULED FOR
WORLDWIDE RELEASE ON FEBRUARY 22, 2019

Band To Embark on The Distance Over Time Tour of North America Beginning March 2019

Two-time Grammy-nominated and millions-selling progressive music titans Dream Theater announce the forthcoming worldwide release of their 14thstudio album, Distance Over Time on February 22, 2019. Distance Over Time showcases a newfound creativity for Dream Theater while maintaining the elements that have garnered them devoted fans around the globe. The album also marks the first for the band’s new label InsideOutMusic / Sony Music. The artwork was created by long-time cover collaborator Hugh Syme (Rush, Iron Maiden, Stone Sour). Distance Over Time was produced by John Petrucci, mixed by Ben Grosse and mastered by Tom Baker.

“When I listen back to the album, I can distinctly recall every moment of the writing process; where I was standing in the room, what inspired us in that instant and the meaning behind each song. As a producer, my goal was to try and create the best-sounding Dream Theater record we’ve ever made so that listeners can just be enveloped in the music. I really wanted this recording to truly reflect the spirit, joy and passion that went into making the album and for people to walk away feeling some of the organic nature, personality and raw energy that the band captured while together in the studio. For me, I think it accomplishes that and I hope that other people will feel the same way,” explains John Petrucci.

In June 2018, Dream Theater secluded themselves in a private location in upstate New York to begin writing for the new record. While spending the summer living together in the property’s adjacent residence, the band spent their days and nights crafting the music that would make up the new album in the ‘Yonderbarn’; a beautiful and spacious barn that had been meticulously transformed into a state-of-the art film and recording studio. Following an intense & extremely productive period of group writing sessions and wanting to retain the magic that was captured in this scenic and inspiring location, they decided to record the album in the very room they had all convened to write together in. Living together during the writing and recording for Distance Over Time marked another first for the band’s 33-year career. The result is a heavier collection of songs that showcases the early roots of the band while exploring new territory as musicians and as friends.

“It was like going back to summer camp,” adds James LaBrie. “Being around each other the whole time made it that much more of a profound experience. I think the songs reflect the energy. It was a lot of fun to have a situation so powerful at this point in our career.”

It has been 3 years since Dream Theater released new music. To announce the details of the brand new album, Dream Theater enlisted the help of one lucky contest winner to break the news of the record to the loyal fans of the band. An Alternate Reality Game was launched that encompassed a “treasure hunt” whereby fans were able to search for clues hidden in various photos, videos, social media posts, and more. Ultimately, one lucky winner was given access to content before everyone else including the release date and cover artwork, and the winner would be the one to share the first taste of never before heard music.

Dream Theater is also planning to hit the road in support of the new album. The Distance Over Time Tour of North America was recently announced and kicks off on March 20, 2019 in San Diego, CA. The tour will run for seven weeks before wrapping up in Mexico City on May 4, 2019.

Information on tickets for all upcoming shows as well as VIP packages can be found at www.dreamtheater.net. More tour dates for the worldwide tour will be announced in the near future.

Progressive metal pioneers Dream Theater— James LaBrie (Vocals), John Petrucci (Guitars), Jordan Rudess (Keyboards), John Myung (Bass), and Mike Mangini (Drums) —share a unique bond with one of the most passionate fan bases around the globe as evidenced by their two GRAMMY® Award nominations and 15 million records sold worldwide. The 1992 opus Images & Words received a gold certification and landed onRolling Stone’s coveted “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All-Time.”Guitar World placed the follow-up Awake at #1 on “Superunknown: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1994.” 1996’s A Change of Seasons notably soundtracked NBC’s coverage of Downhill Skiing at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Fans voted the 1999 Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memorythe “Number One All-Time Progressive Rock Album” in a 2012 Rolling Stone poll. Not to mention, it ranked as the “15th Greatest Concept Album”by Classic Rock.  2009 saw Black Clouds & Silver Linings crash theBillboard Top 200 at #6 as A Dramatic Turn of Events [2011] and Dream Theater [2013] maintained a three-peat in the chart’s Top 10.Consequence of Sound dubbed 2016’s The Astonishing“An absolutely unique experience.  Beyond three platinum and two gold videos, the group was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2010. On its 14thfull-length and first release for InsideOutMusic / Sony Music, Distance Over Time, the band recharge the brotherhood that has kept them creating music together for over 30 years. It’s Dream Theater at their most dynamic, direct, and definitive.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy®-winning singer and songwriter OZZY OSBOURNE has announced additional North American tour dates for 2019.  For these shows,OSBOURNE will be backed by his longtime collaborators Zakk Wylde (Guitar), Blasko (Bass), Tommy Clufetos (Drums) and Adam Wakeman (Keyboards), with Megadeth supporting for the entire North American run.

Tickets for the 2019 North American “NO MORE TOURS 2”shows go on sale to the general public starting Friday, November 9 at 10:00 AM local time at LiveNation.com and through the Live Nation app.  Citi is the official presale credit card of the tour. As such, Citi cardmembers will have access to purchase presale tickets beginning Tuesday, November 6 at 10:00AM (local time)until Thursday, November 8 at 10:00 PM (local time) through Citi’s Private Pass® program. For complete presale details visit www.citiprivatepass.com.

The “NO MORE TOURS 2” tour launched in May 2018 in Santiago, Chile for solo shows in three countries followed by a six-week European leg of headlining solo dates and festival performances.  North American tour followed kicking off August 30 in Allentown, PA, with the final four shows of that leg of the tour postponed for OZZY to recover from an infection.  Those four shows–Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA, North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas–will now conclude the 2019 dates. Tickets for these rescheduled dates are on sale now at LiveNation.com. The trek will also include a newly announced June 11 stop at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  Prior to his 2019 dates, OZZY will headline a special New Year’s Eve OZZFEST spectacular at the Forum in Los Angeles.

On his upcoming farewell world tour, produced by Live Nation, OSBOURNE will celebrate more than five decades as a performer (both as a solo artist and as lead singer of Black Sabbath which formed in 1968).  This tour, expected to take OZZY around the world with dates into2020, will mark the end of global touring for the legendary artist, though he will continue to perform select live shows in the future.  Throughout his career, OZZY has sold more than 100 million records.

This will mark the first time Megadeth will join OSBOURNE for a full tour, although they have performed together previously at OZZFEST and other festivals around the world.  Megadeth burst onto the scene thirty years ago, virtually inventing a genre with their debut album Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good! (recently recognized by VH1 as the Greatest Thrash Metal Debut Album of All Time) sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including a 2017 GRAMMY® Award for “Best Metal Performance” for the title track of their fifteenth studio album Dystopia, 11 additional GRAMMY® nominations, a SILVER CLIO for their Dystopia campaign and scored five consecutive platinum albums-including 1992’s two-million-selling Countdown to Extinction.

Here’s some critical feedback from the 2018 North American “NO MORE TOURS 2” shows:

“As Ozzy Osbourne, the main attraction, he becomes the consummate showman…Both Osbourne and his band were in top form throughout the evening. Ozzy’s voice was strong and on pitch, even during some of the songs’ impossibly high parts, and Wylde & Co. seemed to play a bazillion notes each on their instruments.”

–Kory Grow, ROLLING STONE (8/31/18)

“From the get-go, it was evident there was something special about this tour. The stage backdrop is absolutely magnificent, highlighted by a giant cross made up of video screens…As great as Ozzy sounded, his backing band deserves as much praise. This is what a metal band should look like.”

–Spencer Kaufman, CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND (9/10/18)

“The return of Zakk Wylde to Ozzy’s band made the biggest impact on the show. His energy, enthusiasm and love for the material and Ozzy raises everyone’s game, and their game was already great…But the highlights of the show were, of course, when Ozzy was on stage. Powerful version of ‘Bark at the Moon,’ ‘No More Tears,’ ‘Mr. Crowley,’ ‘Suicide Solution,’ ‘I Don’t Know,’ ‘Crazy Train’ and Sabbath’s ‘Fairies Wear Boots’ thrilled fans.”

–Brian Ives, LOUDWIRE.COM (9/9/18)

“Fortunately, Ozzy’s game is fairly tight at the moment. Tuesday night’s gig was a solid 95 minutes’ worth of entertainment. No messin’ around with iffy new stuff, just a whack of old-school favorites delivered with contagious enthusiasm by Osbourne and his band before a sold-out, 16,000-strong crowd hanging lovingly and loudly on every word and every riff. If this does indeed turn out to be Ozzy’s last visit to Toronto, we got exactly what we wanted.”

–Ben Rayner, TORONTO STAR (9/5/18)

“…the show was an exciting evening that featured one of rock’s biggest stars doing what he does best, entertaining a crowd with music that impacts generations.”

–Matt Durr, MLIVE.COM (Detroit) (9/20/18)

“This tour does just about everything right when it comes to playing to the strengths that 2018 Ozzy possesses. The setlist is pretty much perfect, focusing on the hits from his solo work while mixing in some well-times Black Sabbath classics…The band plays like a well-oiled machine…And then there’s Ozzy’s clear enthusiasm for being out on stage…Ozzy could easily sit on a throne in the middle of the stage and no one would have complained. But he’s still giving what he can, the way he always has.”

–Cory Garcia, HOUSTON PRESS (9/29/18)

“If last night indeed represented Osbourne’s last show here, the man went out with a bang.”

–Jeff Niesel, CLEVELAND SCENE (9/17/18)

“The Prince of Darkness showed that age is just a number…Osbourne lived up to his own legacy (as if he really had to) by preparing a setlist of such epic proportions, that it seemed as if he had created a tribute to himself by the end of the night…If this is, in fact, his final globe trot, The Great and Powerful Ozz gave nothing short of 100 percent of himself in Mansfield, and, in turn, further cemented his legacy as the brightest beam of darkness in rock and roll.”

–Jason Greenough, VANYALAND.COM (Boston) (9/10/18)

Photos: MODEST MOUST at Big Adventure in Costa Mesa, CA 11/4/2018

Modest Mouse closed out the hangar (literally, an airplane hangar) on day two of Big Adventure.  For a name that has been around since the 90’s, it’s interesting to see all the ground Modest Mouse have covered since their days in Washington.

It was a tight squeeze to fit so many instruments and musicians on stage at once, but they made it work.  The crowd was even more packed, cramming into the hangar and spilling out into the fair grounds.

Photos: COLD WAR KIDS at Big Adventure in Costa Mesa, CA 11/4/2018

This was the second time I have seen Cold War Kids live.  I first heard the band when flipping through channels in 2008 and seeing them perform “Hospital Beds” on The Tonight Show (which is random because I’m not even a Leno fan).

It’s been a wild ride following this band since then with many different songs from several albums gaining more and more attention over the years.  After many live TV performances including a Jimmy Kimmel set with Bishop Briggs, I think Cold War Kids will forever be that band where many people have heard their songs but many more are unsure of which band it is that plays them.

The band had a solid set in the airport hangar at Big Adventure at the OC Fair and Convention Center, with a silhouetted stage lighting design to thousands who were flowing out of the building as they watched.

Sevendust Release Music Video For “Unforgiven”

SEVENDUST RELEASE MUSIC VIDEO FOR THE TRACK
“UNFORGIVEN” FROM THE LATEST ALBUM ALL I SEE IS WAR

Heavy metal legends Sevendust have unveiled a new music video for the latest song released from their 12th studio album, All I See Is War. “Unforgiven” is set in a post-apocalyptic world created from an idea by director Scott Hansen presented to the band. The concept is the world is rebuilding and the youth will be the ones to keep mankind going long after the adults are no longer around, a message that has been shared throughout society for decades. The video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/f_qScOrrR-s.

“The ‘Unforgiven’ video was a great experience for me. I loved working with everyone on that shoot. It was like being in a movie for real and I hope we can do something like that again,” explains vocalist Lajon Witherspoon.

The latest song comes from the band’s Rise Records’ debut All I See Is War that was released in May. All I See Is War received critical acclaim with the Associated Press raving: “There are some people who sneer at hard rockers Sevendust, expressing dislike for the metal band for its lighter tones and stylistic changes. To which we respectfully say: blow it out your ears.” All I See Is Waris now available everywhere and fans can head to https://RiseRecords.lnk.to/AISIW to find out more information or to order a copy. The new album was recorded last Fall and was produced by Michael “Elvis” Baskette, known for his work with Alter Bridge; Tremonti; Slash; and others.

Sevendust recently wrapped a successful tour of the United States opening for Clutch. On December 1st, the band will make a long-heralded return to the United Kingdom for a week of headline dates. Sevendust will close out 2018 with 3 hometown shows in Atlanta at The Masquerade on December 28th, December 29th and December 31st. The New Year’s Eve show will also feature the band performing their iconic album Home in its entirety. Fans can go towww.sevendust.com for more information on the tour, VIP packages and ticket purchase links to all shows.

In 1994, Sevendust first forged a familial tie amongst each other that translated into one of the most diehard audiences in the game. To this day, the connection between fans and the GRAMMY® Award-nominated gold-certified hard rock outfit only grows stronger. For their twelfth full-length and first release for Rise Records All I See Is War, the quintet—Lajon Witherspoon [lead vocals], Clint lowery [lead guitar, backing vocals], John Connolly [rhythm guitar, backing vocals], Vince Hornsby [bass], and Morgan Rose [drums]—did the best thing they could possibly do to combat all of the division in the streets and on social media; they went and made a Sevendust record—just bigger, ballsier, and bolder than before. A trifecta of now-classic gold albums—Sevendust [1997], Home [1999], and Animosity [2001]— ignited their journey. Known as an equally intense and unforgettable live force, they’ve consistently packed houses around the world and decimated stages everywhere from Rock on the Range and Woodstock to OZZfest andShiprocked! 2015’s Kill The Flaw represented a high watermark. Bowing at #13 on the BillboardTop 200, it scored their highest debut on the respective chart since 2010 and marked their fifth consecutive Top 10 on the Top Rock Albums Chart and third straight Top 3 on the Hard Rock Albums Chart. Most impressively, the lead single “Thank You” garnered a nomination in the category of “Best Metal Performance” at the 2016 GRAMMY® Awards, a career first. All I See Is War represents yet another new beginning.

Hollywood Undead Release Surprise EP, Psalms

HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD RELEASE SURPRISE EP, PSALMS
“WEST COAST HIGH” CO-HEADLINE TOUR W/ CYPRESS HILL KICKS OFF NEXT YEAR

Hollywood Undead’s surprise EP, PSALMS, is out today! The record is a companion piece to last year’s LP, FIVE, and features previously released tracks, “Gotta Let Go” and “Another Level,” as well as three brand new songs: “Bloody Nose,” “Live Fast Die Young,” and “Something to Believe.” The band gave fans a preview of the new offering on Wednesday with the exclusive premiere of “Bloody Nose” on SiriusXM Octane.

Complete with an eclectic blend of pop, rock, and rap, PSALMS showcases the five-piece’s versatility, diverse musicianship, and authentic songwriting. “On our new EP, we tackle darker subjects such as life, death, and suicide. As a band, we try to convey messages of hope and with this project specifically, redemption,” says Johnny 3 Tears (vocals, bass guitar). “If I could speak to every individual who needs help I would. But no one can do that, and that’s why we make the music we do. Hopefully we can help someone with these songs. They have definitely helped us.” Fans can stream and download the EP HERE.

Since unveiling “Gotta Let Go” and “Another Level” earlier this year, the standout tracks have racked up over 10 million views and streams. The group also recently clocked over 1.1 billion total U.S. streams across their catalog, over two million monthly listeners on Spotify, and over 440 million total YouTube views – all marking impressive achievements in their career.

Hollywood Undead is also pleased to announce a new batch of tour dates for 2019. The quintet will first embark on the “West Coast High” U.S. co-headliner with labelmates Cypress Hill, followed by a headline run across Europe. The massive trek goes from February to May and hits major cities including Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Moscow, Prague, and London. GODSMACK ANNOUNCE 2019 EUROPEAN TOUR DATES
THE 20-DATE TREK KICKS OFF FEBRUARY 27 IN LONDON

GODSMACK, the multi-platinum band who recently had to postpone their fall European tour due to the unexpected death of the son of guitarist Tony Rombola, have announced plans for a 20-date trek in 2019. The tour is set to kick off on February 27 in London with Like A Storm confirmed as direct support.

Tickets are on sale now for all shows, including a second date at Live Music Hall in Germany recently added due to high demand. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets. All tour dates listed below.

Earlier this year (4/27), GODSMACK released WHEN LEGENDS RISE via BMG (US) and Spinefarm (Worldwide) marking the band’s seventh studio album and their first in four years. The acclaimed 11-song collection, fueled by the Top 5 rock song and video “Bulletproof” plus the title track “When Legends Rise,” entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart in the top ten (#8), with four #1 placements on other charts: Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Music Albums, Top Independent Albums and Top Alternative Albums. WHEN LEGENDS RISE is available on CD, LP and Digital; purchase or stream it here.
