Album Review: Bring Me The Horizon – Amo

A review on Amo, the sixth full album from Bring Me The Horizon.

Bring Me the Horizon, often abbreviated BMTH, are an English rock band from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Formed in 2004, the group now consists of vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls and keyboardist Jordan Fish. They are signed to RCA Records globally and Columbia Records exclusively in the United States. The style of their early work, including their debut album Count Your Blessings, has been described primarily as deathcore, but they started to adopt a more eclectic style of metalcore on later albums. Furthermore, their fifth album That’s the Spirit marked a shift in their sound to less aggressive rock music styles.

Amo (stylised in lowercase) is the sixth studio album by British rock band Bring Me the Horizon. Originally scheduled for release on 11 January 2019, it was released on 25 January 2019. The album was announced on 22 August 2018, a day after the release of the lead single “Mantra“.[1]It is produced by frontman Oliver Sykes and keyboardist Jordan Fish, and was written and recorded primarily in Los Angeles.

Also, listen to “The Truth Is Dead,” featuring Randy Blythe and Alissa White-Gluz, here.

The album was made alongside a dream team of highly respected musicians from a multitude of musical worlds; some friends and some who would never be expected to collaborate with metal genre leaders Lamb of God. Singers on the album include Chester Bennington, Randy Blythe, Jacoby Shaddix, Myles Kennedy, Alissa White-Gluz, Mark Lanegan, Chuck Billy, Jake Oni, Josh Todd, Mark Morales, and Naeemah Maddox. Musically, Morton performs all guitars, with Roy Mayorga, David Ellefson, Ray Luzier, Paolo Gregoletto, Alex Bent, Mike Inez, Jean-Paul Gaster, Steve Gorman, Marc Ford, Yanni Papadopoulos, and Chris Brooks rounding out the band.

Light the Torch — Howard Jones [vocals], Francesco Artusato [guitar], and Ryan Wombacher [bass] — drew from five years together as Devil You Know to forge a wholly distinct path. Amidst myriad struggles, they returned from the brink under a new name. The Light the Torch lineup boasts one of the most esteemed pedigrees in modern heavy music. Jones spent a decade at the helm of GRAMMY® Award-nominated and gold-selling titans Killswitch Engage. Artusato had much-lauded stint in All Shall Perish and has attained status as a shred virtuoso. Wombacher was a staple in Bleeding Through for well over a decade. For Revival, they are joined by Extinction A.D. drummer Mike “Scuzz” Sciulara behind the kit. The band released Revival via Nuclear Blast in 2018. Since then, the band has embarked on multiple tours, while the single “The Safety of Disbelief” has been racking up spins at SiriusXM’s Octane.

Mother Feather Release Music Video For “Man, I Wish You Were Here”

Mother Feather release rich and visually engaging
new video for “Man, I Wish You Were Here”

New York City’s Mother Feather are kicking off 2019 with brand new video for “Man, I Wish You Were Here.” The video originally debuted at the Triskelion Arts Dance Film Festival in November of 2018. Watch the video and listen to more cuts from Constellation Baby out on Metal Blade Records / Blacklight Media Records. Watch it now here: blacklightmediarecords.com/motherfeather

Vocalist Ann Courtney elaborates on the concept behind the video and what makes it special: “I am a huge fan of artist Lia Bonfilio’s short-format dance films, and watching them on Instagram while listening to mixes for ‘Man, I Wish You Were Here’ gave me the idea to enlist her to create a music video for the song. Her visceral choreography and magic realism she often employs in her editing, along with the recurring theme of a woman in isolation, deeply resonated with my connection to this song. With Bonfilio cast as a sort of avatar, we were excited about another opportunity to ask the question, ‘Who is Mother Feather?’

Constellation Baby was released on Blacklight Media Records / Metal Blade Records on November 2, 2018.

Constellation Baby is a bold, rock ‘n’ roll statement. The band tempers their fun anthems with doses of soul searching, broadening their sound in the best possible way. It offers up music for the party and for the comedown afterwards. What more could you ask for in a record?” New Noise Magazine

HORRENDOUS are touring in support of their new album, ‘Idol’ The critically acclaimed album, hailed as “engaging and hard-hitting throughout, the performances are fantastic, and the production is close to perfect for this brand of death metal. It’s the album that fans of Anareta were most certainly hoping for, and on that measurement meets all expectations. Idol will do little to quell the critical fervor surrounding this band, and thankfully, the adulation is here justified. An excellent release.” (Heavy Blog is Heavy) is available now at the Season of Mist E-Shop.

In addition to critically acclaimed reviews, ‘Idol’ was named one of the best albums of 2018 by Pop Matters (#4), Invisible Oranges (#5), Metal Injection (#9), Revolver Magazine (#24), Decibel Magazine (#28), and Pitchfork.

‘Idol’ also found itself scoring several placings across the U.S Billboard charts, peaking at #16 Current Hard Music Albums, #25 on the Heatseekers chart, #55 on the Record Label/Independent Current Albums chart, and more.

Listen to one of 2018’s most compelling and forward-thinking underground releases! ‘Idol’ is streaming here.

Drawing inspiration from both personal and national crises, ‘Idol’s’ music is a methodical and unapologetic take on dynamic, progressive death metal. The album sees HORRENDOUS at the highest echelon of  their musical creativity to date. Thematically, the ambitious new album is an exploration of defeat, of the gods we build in our minds to escape the responsibility of action and change as we relinquish our agency. The music in ‘Idol’ mimics this act of deity building, with sprawling compositions that are imposing in scope and mirror the great turmoil of our times. Tracks such as “Soothsayer,” “Golgothan Tongues,” and the monumental “Obolus” position the band in a league of their own, as one of the death metal’s leading new entities.

HORRENDOUS formed in 2009. The band’s three founding members (Damian Herring – guitar, vocals, Matt Knox – guitar, vocals, Jamie Knox – drums), driven by a desire to capture and rekindle the mystique of a bygone era in the history of metal, fused elements from progressive metal, old school death metal, and more, into a cohesive sonic landscape. These initial compositions resulted in the of release their debut full-length ‘The Chills’ in 2012. The album received critically acclaim upon release, and was cited as “a preposterously flawless debut album. The old school just got schooled.” (Metal Injection).

Following the release of ‘The Chills’, HORRENDOUS began to expand upon their traditional death metal leanings, conjuring a bolder, more sophisticated musical approach from a wide-cast net of elements beyond the limitations of any genre. This lead to the back-to-back releases of ‘Ecdysis’ (2014) and (after relocating to Philadelphia,) ‘Anareta’ (2015). Both albums were incredibly well-received by both the heavy metal underground and critics alike. Each successive record marked a new step in the sonic evolution of the band and carried them further on their adventurous journey of musical awakenings.

Upon the release of ‘Anareta’, HORRENDOUS saw significant acclaim from mainstream music journalism, as the record was championed as “stunning” by Pitchfork, “A momentous and unconventionally poignant achievement… Anareta is death metal painted not with just reds and grays, but with the palette of human experience.” (SPIN), and saw the band “fearlessly reaching skyward, peeling off guitar leads that climb like clock towers or church steeples: intricate constructions resulting in monuments that are breathtaking to behold from afar, and almost impossible to believe when examined up close.” (Stereogum)

‘Anareta’ went on to top many best-of lists in 2015, making appearances in Stereogum, Consequence of Sound, SPIN, Decibel Magazine, Apple Music, Yahoo Music, and countless other publications, blogs, and websites.

Sevendust Release Music Video For The Single “Risen”

Sevendust Release Music Video For “Risen”
From All I See Is War

Band Starts Latest US Headline Tour on February 1st
with Tremonti,
Cane Hill, Lullwater and Kirra

Heavy metal legends Sevendust have unveiled a new music video for the next single from their 12th studio album, All I See Is War. “Risen” is a live performance montage clip for the latest single that is currently impacting Active Rock radio. The video was filmed during the band’s recent show in London at the Brixton Academy. Dan Sturge, known for his work with Alter Bridge, directed the clip. The video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/VkVvLyb75mU.

“Risen” comes from the band’s Rise Records’ debut All I See Is War that was released in May 2018. All I See Is War received critical acclaim with the Associated Press raving: “There are some people who sneer at hard rockers Sevendust, expressing dislike for the metal band for its lighter tones and stylistic changes. To which we respectfully say: blow it out your ears.” All I See Is War is now available everywhere and fans can head to https://RiseRecords.lnk.to/AISIW to find out more information or to order a copy. Michael “Elvis” Baskette, known for his work with Alter Bridge; Tremonti; Slash; and others, produced the new album.

Sevendust recently wrapped a successful tour of the United Kingdom and closed out 2018 with 3 hometown shows in Atlanta at The Masquerade. The New Years Eve show was broadcast live via SiriusXM and the band performed their sophomore release Home in its entirety, another career first for the band. Sevendust will be heading to the high seas on this years Shiprocked cruise before headlining the United States with special guests Tremonti. Cane Hill, Lullwater and Kirra will also be on the upcoming run of dates. The tour kicks off February 1st in Houston, TX and wraps up in San Antonio, TX on March 3rd. The tour will make stops in New Orleans, LA; Boston, MA; Flint, MI; and Chicago, IL to name a few. Fans can go to www.sevendust.com for more information on the tour, VIP packages and ticket purchase links to all shows.

In 1994, Sevendust first forged a familial tie amongst each other that translated into one of the most diehard audiences in the game. To this day, the connection between fans and the GRAMMY® Award-nominated gold-certified hard rock outfit only grows stronger. For their twelfth full-length and first release for Rise Records All I See Is War, the quintet—Lajon Witherspoon [lead vocals], Clint lowery [lead guitar, backing vocals], John Connolly [rhythm guitar, backing vocals], Vince Hornsby [bass], and Morgan Rose [drums]—did the best thing they could possibly do to combat all of the division in the streets and on social media; they went and made a Sevendust record—just bigger, ballsier, and bolder than before. A trifecta of now-classic gold albums—Sevendust [1997], Home [1999], and Animosity [2001]— ignited their journey.

Known as an equally intense and unforgettable live force, they’ve consistently packed houses around the world and decimated stages everywhere from Rock on the Range and Woodstock to OZZfest andShiprocked! 2015’s Kill The Flaw represented a high watermark. Bowing at #13 on the Billboard Top 200, it scored their highest debut on the respective chart since 2010 and marked their fifth consecutive Top 10 on the Top Rock Albums Chart and third straight Top 3 on the Hard Rock Albums Chart. Most impressively, the lead single “Thank You” garnered a nomination in the category of “Best Metal Performance” at the 2016 GRAMMY® Awards, a career first. All I See Is War represents yet another new beginning.

All That Remains + Attila Announce Winter/Spring 2019 Co-Headline Tour

ATTILA & ALL THAT REMAINS ANNOUNCE WINTER/SPRING 2019 U.S. TOUR
ESCAPE THE FATE + SLEEP SIGNALS WILL ALSO APPEAR

All That Remains and Attila have announced a massive co-headline North American tour that runs from February through April. They will be joined by Escape the Fate and Sleep Signals. The tour kicks off on February 28 in Reading, Pennsylvania and winds through U.S. and back before wrapping in early April. All tour dates are below.

“We are stoked to get on the road supporting our most intense record to date with All That Remains,” said Attila. “The band crushes and we can’t wait to party with them for six weeks. Our new record Villain brings a whole new level of Attila and we can’t wait to play these songs live.” Attila will release Villain independently on February 22. Pre-order it here.

All That Remains are returning to the road in support of their latest, critically lauded effort Victim of the New Disease. The band suffered a tragic and incredibly painful loss last fall ahead of the album’s release when their globally renowned, highly respected, and immeasurably talented lead guitarist and founding member Oli Herbert, who played on all nine albums in the band’s discography, unexpectedly passed away.

“I’m very honored to be able to help keep the band going because there’s definitely no way Oli would’ve ever wanted All That Remains to stop for any reason,” said new guitarist Jason Richardson. “After being a huge fan myself since their album The Fall of Ideals came out, it’s definitely a very humbling/surreal experience to be able to come into a group that helped get me into metal back when I was first learning to play guitar.”

Joining ATR and Attila on the tour are veteran scene rockers Escape the Fate, consisting of Craig Mabbitt (vocals), Robert Ortiz (drums), Kevin “Thrasher” (guitar), and TJ Bell (guitar). They were named one of 2018’s hardest touring bands, with an extensive schedule spanning three continents. They continue to tour in support of last year’s release, their sixth studio album I Am Human, featuring hit single “Broken Heart,” available on Better Noise Records. Stream or download here.

Alien Weaponry Announces Headline Tour For May 2019

Alien Weaponry Announces First Ever North American Headline Tour For May 2019

Three teenagers, known as ALIEN WEAPONRY, from a tiny town in the small South Pacific nation of New Zealand have managed to capture the imaginations of people all over the world with their unique thrash metal sound and commanding live performances. Last year saw the trio’s first ever North American tour which received rave reviews:

“Alien Weaponry Have Hit America Just in Time” -Kerrang-

“A perfect showcase of thrash fused with a driving addicting groove that destroyed everything in its path.” -Metal Nexus-

The band blew the minds of everyone in the venue early as they worked their way through a half hour of punishingly heavy material from their 2018 debut album Tū.” -Pure Grain Audio-

This May, ALIEN WEAPONRY are set to return to North America on their first ever headline tour. The tour also features stops at a handful of festivals. The run kicks off May 3rd – 4th at Domination Festival in Mexico and runs through May 29th in Los Angeles, CA. A complete list of dates can be found below.

The guys are eager to return to North America, “We had an awesome time touring with Ministry in 2018, and we are so excited to be coming back. We can’t wait to see more of America and put on some sick shows for you all.”

If you missed the band live in 2018, watch this exclusive footage of their entire set from New York City’s Irving Plaza HERE.

In 2018 , ALIEN WEAPONRY released their blistering debut album ‘Tu’ on the world via Napalm Records, short for ‘Tumatauenga,’ the Māori god of war, ‘Tu’ also means to stand strong and proud, and, most importantly, to stand for something. The notion is reflected in the album artwork, which includes the traditional moko kanohi (facial tattoos) of the Māori warrior.
The response for ‘Tu’ has been nothing short of astounding with outlets like Loudwire singing their praises, “Like Sepultura in Brazil before them, ALIEN WEAPONRY are working to immortalize New Zealand’s tribal culture through heavy metal.” Revolver Magazine calls the trio, “So badass and so important to heavy-music culture right now.”
