Invent Animate fans, rejoice! The atmospheric metalcore trailblazers have announced the upcoming release of ‘Heavener (Definitive)’ this Friday, May 31, and dropped their new track How We Used To Say Goodbye (via UNFD). Before today, Invent Animate shared Sleepless Deathbed which has amassed nearly 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone and 216k views and counting on YouTube. When asked about ‘Heavener (Definitive)’, guitarist Keaton Goldwire shared:

Finishing out ‘Heavener’ was a really special moment for us. There was such deep self-reflection and proudness that formed into an intense motivation. I don’t think was ever a time where I could say I was inspired by my own band, but this one really sparked something. So we kept writing. The songs we came up with are a true extension of Heavener and give us closure to an era. A new, definitive ending.

‘Heavener (Definitive)’ includes the original album in its entirety, plus “How We Used To Say Goodbye”, recent singles “Sleepless Deathbed” and “Heavener”, and a re-imagined version of “Without a Whisper.” The band will also be offering a premium version of the album on vinyl with a limited-edition D-Side etching, and an embossed jacket with spot gloss and foil stamping. Truly the definitive version of the critically acclaimed album – ‘Heavener’.

In other Dayseeker news, the band’s acoustic album Replica arrives physically on June 14 via Spinefarm. Pre-order it here.

The stripped down, intimate renditions of familiar fan favorites highlight the band’s songcraft and allow the listener to experience Dayseeker in an entirely new way. The collection also includes appearances from Holding Absence’s Lucas Woodland and indie artist Amber DeLaRosa.

Replica is the somewhat unexpected (yet welcomed) result of a specific gig in 2022, when the band’s gear overheated at Blue Ridge Rock Festival. Thinking on his feet, Rodriguez grabbed an acoustic guitar from the van, plugged in, and performed “Without Me.” Soon, he had pulled together a five-song set on the fly as thousands of fans flocked to the stage.

“I felt like we let people down, but I had so many friends say, ‘Everyone will remember the day your equipment stopped working and you still played the set as a really special moment’,'” he recalls. “It felt natural for our songs. We usually will do extra tracks for a Deluxe version or re-release, but we decided to commit to an entire acoustic album this time.”

Bring Me The Horizon – Post Human: NeX GEn | Album Review

The surprise full album and next in the Post Human series that proves Bring Me The Horizon can evolve in several directions and make it work. The delay was long but appears to have been worth it. The collaborations, singles, and deep cuts all feel like they belong on the album. Outside of short OST sequences, NeX GEn flows smoothly. Tracks like “YOUtopia”, “liMOusIne”, and “LosT” hit hard and bolster the variety and genre-bending shapes that Bring Me The Horizon has developed. This is described as an emo album but it also is reminiscent of 90’s alternative with remnants of The Smashing Pumpkins and Deftones. The riffs and hooks hit hard. Oli Sykes is in his groove at delivering loud and smooth choruses. Even if I don’t adore every moment, the encompassing project swells with creativity and replay value. This band promised more of an emo sounding record, and with some extra elements thrown in, Bring Me The Horizon delivered something unique. 8/10

Bring Me The Horizon “YOUtopia”
Bring Me The Horizon “LosT”

Bring Me the Horizon‘s highly anticipated album “Post Human: NeX GEn” was released on May 24, 2024, as the second installment of their “Post Human” series. The genre-defying record seamlessly blends elements of metalcore, pop, electronic, and hyperpop, showcasing the band’s remarkable versatility and evolution. Standout tracks like “YOUtopia,” “Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd,” and the Lil Uzi Vert-featured “AmEN!” have garnered widespread acclaim for their infectious melodies, intricate guitar work, and Oli Sykes’ dynamic vocal delivery. With its bold experimentation and boundary-pushing sound, “Post Human: NeX GEn” solidifies Bring Me the Horizon’s position as one of the most innovative and influential acts in modern rock music.” (Perplexity)

I’m Afraid of Americans” is a song by the English musician David Bowie, released as a single from his album Earthling on 14 October 1997 through Virgin Records.  The maxi-single release contained six different remixes mostly created by Trent Reznor and his Nine Inch Nails band members; the V3 mix featured Ice Cube while the V5 mix was created by Photek. Reznor subsequently appeared in the music video, which reflected the song’s theme of a frightened European in an American city. The single was Bowie’s final single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 until 2015, reaching number 66.

Numb/Encore” is a song by American rapper Jay-Z and rock band Linkin Park from their EP Collision Course (2004).

Have a Cigar” is the third track on Pink Floyd‘s 1975 album Wish You Were Here. It follows “Welcome to the Machine” and on the original LP opened side two.

Paradise (What About Us?)” is a single and studio EP by Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation from their sixth studio album Hydra. The song features former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen.

V.A.N” (an acronym for “Violence Against Nature”) is a song by American band Bad Omens and American singer-songwriter Poppy.

“Kid Rock, the controversial musician known for his outspoken political views, found himself in hot water after a recent Rolling Stone interview. According to journalist David Peisner, during their conversation, Rock allegedly brandished a handgun, waving it around while shouting. The interview also revealed Rock’s liberal use of racial slurs, including repeatedly uttering the N-word. This incident has sparked outrage and criticism, further fueling the debate surrounding Rock’s embrace of far-right ideologies and his polarizing persona in the entertainment industry.

“In 2021, Kid Rock was caught on video using a homophobic slur onstage and later doubled down on using the slur in a social media post. In 2017, he made transphobic comments during a speech at his annual Fish Fry event, questioning LGBTQ+ rights and saying “whatever you have between your legs should determine the bathroom that you use.” (Perplexity)

Don’t listen to Kid Rock. It’s a message I will continue to spread until Kid Rock is finally done talking, because every time he talks things only get worse for everyone.

Sum 41 Bids an Unforgettable Farewell to Norfolk

With the announcement over a year ago that Sum 41 would be disbanding following the release of their final album “Heaven x Hell” and the headlining tour to coincide with the release, I fully anticipated a packed crowd at The NorVa in Norfolk, VA on May 19. Even with the concert falling on a Sunday with the work week looming ahead, fans showed up for a concert to remember.

Before the Ontario based rock band took the stage, the crowd was treated to a highly energized performance from the ska punk band The Interrupters. Not only did the band manage to get the crowd hyped up early on, but their interactions with the crowd were top tier. At one point during the performance, singer Aimee Interrupter’s microphone power cut out, but the crowd didn’t miss a beat and picked up the vocals until the power came back. Once the set was over, the band continued to engage with the crowd by greeting fans along the barricade, passing out guitar picks and drumsticks, as well as signing anything fans had to offer.

Right before Sum 41 took the stage, I looked out over the crowd. I have never seen The NorVa quite so packed in all my times of attending shows there. It was clear no one wanted to miss the chance to see Sum 41 perform for what may be the very last time as a band.

Once the lights went down indicating the band was about to take the stage, the energy from the crowd never dwindled the rest of the evening. Sum 41 made sure they were going to go out big, offering not only hit after hit of both older and newer songs, but they were bringing out all the effects, such as confetti, streamers (which did end up getting caught in the giant metal fan spinning directly above the floor of The NorVa), lasers, smoke, and even giant balloons.

Singer Deryck Whibley kept the crowd energized and moving by encouraging jumping in place, as well as opening up pits on the floor, all while he was running from one side of the stage to the other. The energy from both the crowd and the band never faltered the entire night through what was an incredible setlist.

The first leg of the final tour featuring US tour dates wrapped up with this performance in Norfolk, but a second leg will begin later this summer. They will also be touring in the UK starting in June. If you are able to make it to one of Sum 41’s final performances, I highly recommend you do so for a fun and unforgettable event.

Dropkick Murphys returned to fully electric performances in late 2023 following a pair of critically acclaimed acoustic albums – 2022’s This Machine Still Kills Fascists and 2023’s Okemah Rising – interpreting the work of Woody Guthrie for a new generation. The albums, recorded in Tulsa with trusted collaborator and producer Ted Hutt, exposed the band to new audiences through airplay on stations like SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country, coverage in outlets such as Rolling Stone CountryPaste, CNN, Americana Highways and SPIN, and via Dropkick Murphys’ first-ever acoustic, reserved-seating theater tour in 2022.

Dropkick Murphys are: Ken Casey (lead vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, tin whistle, accordion, piano, vocals), Jeff DaRosa (guitars, banjo, mandolin, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, percussion, and vocals), James Lynch (guitars and vocals), and Kevin Rheault (bass). Joining the band for their live shows is bagpiper and multi-instrumentalist Campbell Webster.

Formed in the South Bay of Los Angeles—a neighborhood with a rich punk-rock history—in 1988, Pennywise went on to amass an international following with their relentless touring and a melodic, high-energy sound fusing classic punk, surf punk, and blistering hardcore. Resolutely working outside the margins of the mainstream, the band–singer Jim Lindberg, guitarist Fletcher Dragge, drummer Byron McMackin, and bassist Randy Bradbury–has emerged as an enduringly vibrant staple on SoCal radio airwaves and the worldwide festival circuit.

JINJER Releases Poignant Live Video For Hit Track “Home Back”!

JINJER 2024
photo credit: Photo credit: Lina Glasir

JINJER, Ukraine’s most dynamic musical force, has just unleashed a new live video for their gripping anti-war anthem, “Home Back”. The live version of the song is cut from their highly anticipated first official live DVD/BluRay, Live in Los Angeles, set to be released this Friday, May 17 via Napalm Records. Originally the track appeared on JINJER’s 2019 studio album, Macro. This meaningful song holds profound significance and perfectly embraces the sense of the new live album. In fact, filmed on December 22, 2022 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA, USA, Live in Los Angeles not only honors their endurance through recent challenges, but also celebrates their triumphant 15-year journey.

During these years, JINJER attained remarkable milestones, touring globally and captivating millions at prestigious festivals like Hellfest, Rock am Ring, Graspop Metal Meeting, Download Festival and Rocklahoma USA. Moreover, their latest triumph, the acclaimed studio album Wallflowers, broke charts worldwide, soaring to #1 on both the US Billboard Top New Artist Album charts and Canadian Hard Music album charts, #2 on the US Hard Music album charts, #5 on the official UK Rock & Metal album charts and #7 on the official German album charts.

JINJER on “Home Back”:
“Since it‘s original release back in 2019, ‘Home Back’ has become another anthem for JINJER and our followers. From its upbeat musical groove to its lyrics charged with pacifism and unfortunate predictions about the state of the world we find ourselves in today, we felt like this was no brainer to release as the third single for the Live In Los Angeles DVD!”

Live in Los Angeles was a spontaneous decision by the band, recorded as raw as possible, to emphasize the passion that can come from a live show. This release is an explosive mixture of JINJER’s discography – featuring fan favorites like “Sit Stay Roll Over”“Call Me A Symbol” and the game changing “Pisces”. The live album contains 16 songs in various audio formats, with some strictly limited: the Deluxe Digipack features not only a DVD, but also two more songs, “Wallflower” & “Disclosure!”, recorded in Paris in 2023.

Pre-order your copy of Live in Los Angeles NOW

With feisty growls and soul-shattering clean vocals, the live energy of frontwoman Tatiana Shmayluk presented on Live in Los Angeles leaves the listener breathless, whilst lethally groovy riffs and multifarious drums culminate to a technical masterpiece, cutting sharp like a razorblade. Live in Los Angeles is JINJER at the top of their game – breaking every rule in heavy metal by doing things their very own way, and preparing fans for the next step of their world domination!

JINJER on Live in Los Angeles:
“Our sold-out Los Angeles show at the end of our 2022 tour was the perfect time and place to do something special – something like a long-awaited DVD/live album by JINJER! The totally packed, legendary venue, the crazy west coast vibes, and most importantly, the band delivering it with full force after being on tour for 6 months around the globe – from Europe to Australia and back to the USA – made this an extra special night. For the fans who joined us that night at The Wiltern, it was an unforgettable concert, but now every single JINJER supporter around the world can experience and enjoy an ideal set featuring our biggest hits from older albums as well as recent bangers. This is not just a DVD or a live album, but a celebration of the first 15 years of the JINJER story, right before we move on to the next chapter…”

Apocalyptica are thrilled to announce the third single from Apocalyptica Plays Metallica, Vol. 2 – the hotly-anticipated sequel to their legendary debut record. One falls hot on the heels of first singles The Four Horsemen and The Unforgiven II, and features none other than Metallica frontman James Hetfield himself.

Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2 will continue the journey that began in 1996 when cellists from Helsinki’s world-renowned Sibelius Academy played symphonic tribute to the biggest of the big four – heavy metal titans Metallica. For their tenth record the classically-minded dynamos are returning to their roots to bring a legendary story full circle. It also features a host of surprises, including an unprecedented collaboration.

Third single One, taken from Metallica’s 1988 landmark …And Justice For All is a breathtaking reinterpretation of one of the biggest of The Big Four’s greatest musical moments – a true crowning creative achievement in their staggering 40 year career. In a stunning development, the single sees Metallica frontman James Hetfield himself joining proceedings for a soul-stirring, spoken-word rendition of those inimitable, now immortal lyrics. More than a unique collaboration, this is history in the making.

“I think it’s incredible that James wanted to do it,” says Eicca Toppinen. “We were always thinking, ‘it’d be great to someday do something with Metallica!’ I think the excitement for him came from the different approach we were taking – sometimes the craziest ideas are what excites people and that was our challenge.”

“We used everything at our disposal to make it as bombastic as possible. It had to be epic! The result was truly cinematic, with James Hetfield narrating the story with those poetic lyrics. It was powerful and touching,” adds Perttu Kivilaakso. “As a fan I have to say it was unbelievable to finally hear it. I was in my home crying. My hands were shaking. It was an incredible journey.”

Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2 was produced by longtime collaborator and studio supremo Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Tool) and will be released via new label Throwdown Entertainment on June 7th.
