Coachella has become the trendiest festival of the year,
but is it even about the music anymore?
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly referred to as Coachella or the Coachella Festival) is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, located in the Inland Empire‘s Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. It was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999, and is organized by Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Live. The event features musical artists from many genres of music, including rock, pop, indie, hip hop, and electronic dance music, as well as art installations and sculptures. Across the grounds, several stages continuously host live music. The main stages are the: Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and Sahara Tent; a smaller Oasis Dome was used in 2006 and 2011, while a new Yuma stage was introduced in 2013 and a Sonora stage in 2017.
The festival’s origins trace back to a 1993 concert that Pearl Jam performed at the Empire Polo Club while boycotting venues controlled by Ticketmaster. The show validated the site’s viability for hosting large events, leading to the inaugural Coachella Festival being held over the course of two days in October 1999—just three months after Woodstock ’99. After no event was held in 2000, Coachella returned on an annual basis beginning in April 2001, as a single-day event. In 2002, the festival reverted to a two-day format. Coachella was expanded to a third day in 2007 and eventually a second weekend in 2012; it is currently held on consecutive three-day weekends in April, with each weekend having identical lineups. Organizers began permitting spectators to camp on the grounds in 2003, one of several expansions and additions of amenities that have been made in the festival’s history.
Coachella showcases popular and established musical artists, as well as emerging artists and reunited groups. Coachella is one of the largest, most famous, and most profitable music festivals in the United States and all over the world. Each Coachella staged from 2013 to 2015 set new records for festival attendance and gross revenues. The 2017 festival was attended by 250,000 people and grossed $114.6 million. The success of Coachella led to Goldenvoice establishing two additional music festivals at the site, the classic rock-oriented Desert Trip in 2016, and the annual Stagecoachcountry music festival in 2007.

Trash Boat Share Music Video for “Controlled Burn”
Trash Boat have shared a new music video for “Controlled Burn”, taken from their most recent album Crown Shyness. The video is premiering on AltPress.com. Fans can watch here: http://bit.ly/2G7AKmE
Speaking to the music video, Trash Boat frontman Tobi Duncan said, “‘Controlled Burn’ is a song about responsibility, about recognizing all the problems in my life that are my own fault. All the things that are so easily fixed through just not giving in to instant gratification,” he said. “So obvious in theory but rarely practiced. Humble yourself to your own choices and learn to make the ones that feed your future rather than your present. Tear away a small piece to prevent the rest from falling apart. Control the burn before it gets to you.”
“The video represents the culmination of our live performance so far,” he continued. “How we’ve adapted our ‘close quarters’ style to fill out bigger rooms. We wanted to show our fans at their best, cutting loose and having as good of a time as we do every set.”
Trash Boat released Crown Shyness last summer via Hopeless Records. The album explores similarly disparate emotions, juxtaposing hard-fought introspection against external strife to create a propulsive, captivating blend of punk and melodic hardcore. It it was produced by Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Neck Deep).
The band is touring steadily throughout 2019, including a US tour with Movements, Boston Manor, and Drug Church that kicks off next week. Tickets can be purchased here. A full list of tour dates can be seen below.

‘The Simpsons’ Airs Okilly Dokilly Music Video
for “White Wine Spritzer” During Sunday Episode
New Album, Howdilly Twodilly, Out Now | Order via iTunes & Bandcamp
Metal sensations OKILLY DOKILLY – the world’s only “Nedal” band – received the highest honor of their exponential existence to date last weekend, when iconic animated comedy The Simpsons (Fox) aired an extended clip of the band’s massive “White Wine Spritzer” music video (view music video in full here).
The video – which currently has over five million views on YouTube and counting, and skyrocketed the band into viral territory back in 2016 – aired during the closing credits of the long-running sitcom’s Sunday, April 7 episode, entitled “I’m Just a Girl Who Can’t Say D’oh”. Watch the clip here.
“Myself and everyone involved with OKILLY DOKILLY are so very honored,” says OKILLY DOKILLY frontman Head Ned. “The fact that the ‘White Wine Spritzer’ video appeared on an episode of The Simpsons is still unreal to us. We are very excited and beyond humbled to have been a part of the show’s legacy.”
Executive Producer and showrunner Al Jean comments, “We saw the video and knew they had to be on the show. We do not endorse their message of indiscriminate drinking of white wine spritzers.”
OKILLY DOKILLY released their second full-length album, entitled Howdilly Twodilly, on March 29, 2019. Order your copy via iTunes here or Bandcamp here.

Established in 2015, Phoenix, AZ based OKILLY DOKILLY found success before even playing their first show, reaching viral phenomenon status after releasing just a few press photos and a four-song demo. Within two weeks, the band netted nearly 30,000 Facebook fans and was featured by numerous publications including Billboard, Time, The Independent, BBC, Esquire, Rolling Stone, Vice and many more. In 2016, the band released their debut album Howdilly Doodilly (stream/order here) – a 13-track catalog filled with Flanderisms, rushing guitars and more than enough left-handed puns.
“Okilly Dokilly, Phoenix’s self-professed “world’s first Nedal band,” have got you covered, kicking out righteous riffs while clad in the traditional green sweater, pink shirt, and nerdy glasses of Homer Simpson’s eternally cheerful and devoutly Christian neighbor.” – Peter Helman, Stereogum
“Their sound… is solid, formulaic metal, with soft, almost classically-voiced verses slashed by the requisite screaming choruses. Let’s just say Homer Simpson might think twice about calling them “Stupid Flanders(es)” after hearing it.” – Steve Huff, Maxim
“…we have a feeling you’ll be nodding your head faster than you can say hi-diddly-ho.” – Anthony Domanico, CNET
“My spell check is intent on correcting ‘Dokilly’ to ‘docilely’, but docile they are not, with their music revolving around crunchy, lo-fi guitar and shrill, lurching synth.” – Christopher Hooton, The Independent
OKILLY DOKILLY is currently billed as Head Ned (lead vocals, guitars, mandolin), Dread Ned (drums), Shred Ned (guitar, vocals, triangle), Bed Ned (bass) and Zed Ned (synth, vocals).
