Behemoth is a spectacle. A dark, sacrilegious spectacle on a foundation of death metal. This darkness came from Poland to light a fire at the start of Knotfest Roadshow at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in St. Louis, MO.
Where a band like Ghost is more “Spirit of Halloween” style of Satanism, Behemoth is the band that will take Biblical characters and sing vulgarities about them. It’s a stark difference that is not for the faint of heart or easily offended.
Behemoth started out their set heavy and the show only ramped up through “Daimonos” and “Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer” while pyro and blood flew on stage. Nergal’s deep voice echoed through the amphitheater and the heavy bass resonated with the pit attendees. It was dooming, loud, and amazing to watch.

If there’s one musician that Michael Poulsen loves, it’s Johnny Cash. He addressed the massive Knotfest Roadshow crowd with his admiration toward’s Cash as Volbeat used “Ring Of Fire” to lead into their own song “Sad Man’s Tongue”.
Two weeks ago, Volbeat released their seventh studio album Rewind, Replay, Rebound. On an extremely hot August day, hearing the band perform “Last Day Under The Sun” from the new album definitely made it feel like a summer song.
Volbeat was a good breath of fresh air at the Roadshow. Between the thundering Gojira and the always crushing Slipknot, Denmark’s rockabilly band was able to add some groove and dance to the night in the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater. It was a sweaty dance party in the St. Louis heat, but a great dance party nonetheless.
Volbeat will continue on the Knotfest Roadshow this summer and then headback to Europe on a headline tour with Baroness. You can find tour dates and more info on the band’s Facebook page here: Volbeat on Facebook

News broke over the weekend that Slipknot’s latest album We Are Not Your Kind had reached #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart. In light of this news, it was a night of celebration for metal in St. Louis. A packed Hollywood Casino Amphitheater cut loose as a high production stage filled with masked men performed for over an hour.
Knotfest Roadshow was a spectacle, topped off with an amazing set of drum pounding and screaming. Corey Taylor had the ability to incite a riot if he wanted to, but instead had everyone in unison while singing hits from years ago as well as new music from We Are Not Your Kind. At his command, Taylor had a crowd of thousands singing along.
Jim Root’s appearance underneath Clown’s platform was just one amazing visual while hearing “Unsainted”. The crowds’ chant during “Custer” no doubt startled any passing traffic outside the venue (but in a good way). This was not just a concert, it was an interactive experience with plenty to see and hear.
I’ve been to many concerts and seen dozen’s of bands at festivals perform live so far in 2019. Knotfest Roadshow was by far one of the best concerts I’ve attended. The audience was packed all the way through the lawn to the back fence and a huge chunk of St. Louis got to see something special. Here’s hoping Slipknot will make a return to St. Louis soon.
The identity of Tortilla Man is still currently unknown.

Highly Suspect Announce Album MCID With Two New Songs “Sixteen” and “Upper Drugs”
Highly Suspect are excited to announce their third album, MCID, with two new singles, “16” and “Upper Drugs“. The project is an adventurous new chapter for Highly Suspect and spans across rock, hip hop and pop, and includes features from Young Thug, Tee Grizzley, Gojira, and Nothing But Thieves.
MCID is based on inconceivable true life
experiences (and perceptions) narrated by frontman, Johnny
Stevens. In his own words, “The themes include self loathing, substance
abuse, image issues, addressing my past and changing my future, with a sprinkle
of anti Trump, false social media worship, heartbreak, hope, depression and
suicide. There are also a few references to the pressures of fame and how I
won’t play into it.”
The lead single, “16” is about a first love and a moment of instant heartbreak. The lyrics describe the true story of Johnny Stevens falling in love at sixteen years old, fostering a relationship for seven years, and feeling elated when she told him she was pregnant with their baby. The song describes his instant devastation the moment of the birth when he found out that the baby wasn’t his, the baby was a different race. Though a wild story, the lyrics capture the gut wrenching feeling of first love lost, betrayal, and regret.
MCID. This is the slogan tattooed on bodies across the world,
four letters that hold so much meaning, a mystery to anyone who is not in the
know. Highly Suspect members Johnny Stevens and twins Rich and Ryan Meyer had
not only been playing music for eight years before topping radio charts,
garnering Grammy nominations, and selling out tours- but they also had been
gradually accruing a cast of comrades that orbited their star, friends and
chosen family that would travel the world with them, move cross country with them,
and become pet parents with them. The growing community of companions have a
name, and it is MCID.
Originally from Cape Cod, the three band members played covers
in dive bars and moved to a studio apartment in Brooklyn together. In 2015,
they gained national recognition after the release of their debut album Mister
Asylum on 300 Entertainment and their singles “Lydia” and “Bloodfeather” topped
the rock radio charts. The next year they performed at the Grammy
Ceremony, receiving two nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song. In
2017 the band traveled to Bogota, Colombia to record their second album, The
Boy Who Died Wolf. It was released in November 2016 and the success of
hits “Little One” and “My Name Is Human,” earned the band a third Grammy
nomination for Best Rock Song.
And now the band is ready to release album three, a manifesto full of lead singer Johnny Steven’s private confessions, packed to the brim with themes of self loathing, body image issues, substance abuse, addressing his complicated past and trying to change his future. There is also a sprinkle of his outspoken anti-Trump political stance, and stories of heartbreak and hope. It’s not surprising that his most vulnerable collection of songs is addressed directly to his chosen family, his followers, and his comrades- the title of the album is MCID.
MCID is packed with surprise major hip hop features, a
collaboration with the metal band Gojira, some Swahili versus, and a lead
single, “Sixteen”, that is completely guitar free. The lyrics describe the true
story of Stevens falling in love at sixteen years old, fostering a relationship
for seven years, and feeling elated when she told him she was pregnant with
their baby. The song describes his instant devastation the moment of the birth
when he found out that the baby wasn’t his, the baby was a different race.
Though a wild story, the lyrics capture the gut wrenching feeling of first love
lost, betrayal, and regret. Other standout songs are his collaboration with
Young Thug on “Tokyo Ghoul”, and “Canals” which captures his frustration with
the Trump presidency, saying that his rage feels like “someone took a crack
pipe, lit it with a torch light, and threw it on a gas line- there is fire
everywhere”.
MCID is not just the third full length project from three guys who approach the rock genre with a hip hop ethos, but it’s a family meeting and an apology from singer Johnny Stevens whose lyrics demand accountability from himself and urge him to be more honest and to conquer the demons that made him who he is.

TOOL Release Tracklist And Details For 2019’s Fear Inoculum
After what seems like an eternity, we will finally be hearing new music from TOOL at the end of this month. The band has played some of the new music live such as jam session songs like “Invincible” and “Descending”, while the title track “Fear Inoculum” has broken the Billboard Hot 100. That is quite the feat, making the title track the longest song to ever break onto Billboard’s popular chart.

The physical and digital versions of the album will vary slightly as the digital album breaks some of the tracks down. Fear Inoculum revolves around the concept of seven, with the physical version having seven tracks ending with the mammoth song “7empest”.

Mr. Bungle Performs The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny In Trio Of February Shows
Scott Ian And Dave Lombardo Join Trevor Dunn,
Mike Patton & Trey Spruance For First
Mr. Bungle Performances In 20 Years
“Mr. Bungle will probably have a battle getting booked into mainstream clubs.” – Susan Nowak for The Times-Standard (Eureka, Calif.), Oct. 23, 1986
Mr. Bungle performs The Raging Wrath Of The Easter
Bunny, the Eureka-born band’s 1986 self-produced/released demo, in a trio
of February shows: Feb. 7 at the Fonda Theatre (Los Angeles), Feb. 8 at the
Warfield Theatre (San Francisco) and Feb. 10 at Brooklyn Steel (New York City).
The dates mark both the first time Mr. Bungle has performed in close to 20
years and the first time these songs have been played live in over 30 years.
Original Mr. Bungle members Trevor Dunn, Mike Patton, and Trey Spruance will be joined by Scott Ian (Anthrax, S.O.D.) and Dave Lombardo (Dead Cross, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies) for what is sure to be one of the most talked about musical moments of 2020.
Mr. Bungle plays The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny: February 7 Los Angeles, CA Fonda Theatre February 8 San Francisco, CA Warfield Theatre February 10 New York, NY Brooklyn Steel
Tickets are on-sale this Friday, Aug. 16 at 10 am local
time. There will be no additional cities added to this itinerary
Mr. Bungle plays The Raging Wrath Of The Easter
Bunny featuring Scott Ian and Dave Lombardo in their own words:
“Ever since Trevor hatched The Raging Wrath of the
Easter Bunny v.2 idea a few years back, Patton, Lombardo, he and I had
each been incubating some idea of that egg. Lombardo called me one day and
asked me to make some guitar demos so he could learn the songs. He had this generous
idea to surprise the other guys with being totally ready to go with the tunes.
It just so happened that I was in Eureka at the time. So, I found myself
re-visiting all of those riffs in the same goddamned town and in the
same goddamned house where I recorded all the original guitars on that
demo 33 years earlier. There was something about actually physically working
out the mania of those riffs again at DAVE LOMBARDO’S request, in that
environment — it just split my head open. It wasn’t long before the train of
destiny had picked up too much speed for any of us to jump off.” – Trey
Spruance
“When we recorded that demo, we were 16 and 17 years old and
we were absolutely serious about the music. At the time, we were living the
deluge of ’80s metal and absorbing every riff and every drum fill from every
known band from Denmark to San Francisco. The recording and playing were
amateurish (save for Trey’s video-game-solos) but the schooled composition and
spirit were solid. I always felt like this music held its own and deserved to
be presented in a clearer and more defined package even if it meant being 33
years later.” – Trevor Dunn
“I remember writing riffs for this cassette in my parent’s
garage, with no heat, so I recorded in a sleeping bag for analog warmth,
playing a one-stringed acoustic guitar that was piped into a ghetto blaster.
Thank god I had Trevor and Trey to help decipher my rotten riffs into something
intelligible!” – Mike Patton
“When Mike hit me up about this my brain thought he was
asking me if I wanted to come to a show, him knowing I am a HUGE Bungle fan.
When I realized he actually meant for me to play guitar with them it broke my
brain, I was a giggly drooling mess. Somehow I pecked out Y E S on my keyboard
and holy crap I’m playing in Mr. Bungle. Seriously, it’s an honor and a
privilege to get to play with my favorite ‘Mr.’ band of all time.” – Scott Ian
“I don’t know what was in the water in Eureka California,
but it certainly wasn’t clean. This is going to be a ridiculously, insane band
to play with and I am honored to have been asked to join the wrath.” – Dave
Lombardo
The idea that Dunn, Patton and Spruance will be joined by
their early musical heroes is not lost on the musicians:
“They are a significant percentage of ‘The Big Four’, all of
which had a major impact on us. Aside from their obvious skills and –for
crying out loud, INVENTION of this genre– there’s nothing like being in a band
with those whom which you have rapport. If we are going back to the source with
this stuff we might as well go ALL THE WAY back.” – Trevor Dunn
“To have Scott and Dave with us on this suicide mission is
more than an honor. THEY are a big part of the reason we wrote this stuff in
the first place, and to realize it 30+ years later with these maestros is an
absolute miracle… we can finally play this teenage nonsense correctly! A total
catharsis for us. “ – Mike Patton
“At our very first show, at the Bayside
Grange Hall, Nov. 30, 1985, we played Slayer’s ‘Chemical Warfare’ and a S.O.D.
cover. I mean, are you kidding?? We WORSHIPPED those guys! And now they’re
gonna PLAY in our band?” – Trey Spruance
