ABOUT I PREVAIL:
Gold-certified Michigan quartet I Prevail refashion, re-up, and recharge rock music on their anxiously awaited 2019 sophomore offering, Trauma [Fearless Records]. If anybody can elevate the genre to mainstream ubiquity once more, it’s this band. Since their 2014 arrival, they set a precedent to catalyze rock’s evolution.

The band put up astounding numbers rarely synonymous with the genre or their peers, for that matter. Nearing half-a-billion streams and 115 million YouTube views, they moved over 500,000 albums worldwide, notched three #1 singles on SiriusXM Octane, and played 500-plus shows in just three years. Not to mention, they achieved a gold single in the form of their take on Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” from the Heart Vs. Mind EP. On the mega-anticipated 2019 offering Trauma, they uplift rock to a plateau where soundscapes can unpredictably toss and turn between heavy metal, alternative, hip-hop, and electronic moods without warning, boundaries, or rules.

Meanwhile, the lyrics team with confessional emotionality as if ripped from the pages of a secret diary. Vulnerable, vital, and visceral, the 15-track opus illuminates the future, and it’s as bright and bold as the singles “Breaking Down“and “Bow Down.”Rock may never be the same after this Trauma.

Starbenders Release New Single ‘Holy Mother’

Psychedelic glam rockers, Starbenders release their second single, ‘Holy Mother’ since signing with Sumerian Records. ‘Holy Mother’ is a bonafide rock n roll rager of a track that crescendos to full on punk fury once the first chorus hits. Complete with pounding drums and fuzzy distorted riffs, the new single sets the stage perfectly for an other-worldly performance from front woman Kimi Shelter. Find ‘Holy Mother’ here.

Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Starbenders are the half way home for misunderstood misfits, fringers and glam punks. Front-woman, Kimi Shelter and her gang have concocted a perfect alchemic blend of androgynous rock and roll power with ‘stuck-in-your-brain’ pop melodies.

Shelter began working with producer, Nico Consantine (Lady Gaga, Program The Dead) in 2014 who encouraged her to start a band. Aaron Lecesne was the first call Shelter made. The duo were best of friends and had intense musical crushes on each other. The genesis of Starbenders took form. Guitarist Kriss Tokaji, entered the scene in early 2015 after the band witnessed him laying waste to a guitar at a shitty house party in the middle of nowhere. The dream line up crystallized with the entrance of drummer Emily Moon.

Starbenders on the road with Counterfeit across the US now.
Tuesday September 10 – The Knitting Factory, Brooklyn, NY
Thursday September 12 – A&R Music Bar, Columbus, OH
Friday September 13 – The End, Nashville, TN
Saturday September 14 – Subterranean, Chicago, IL
Monday September 16 – The Moroccan Lounge, CA

Lindsey Stirling Showcases ‘Artemis’ in New York City | Photos

Photos of Lindsey Stirling’s NYC Artemis Showcase
All photos taken by Ana Santos
in New York City, NY on September 5th, 2019.

When Lindsey Stirling announced her one-off showcase shows in Los Angeles and New York City, I immediately knew I had to attend. After all, I’ve been making it a point to cover most of Stirling’s NYC-area shows for the past several years.  What I hadn’t anticipated was the small venue choice, or the uniquely intimate show that would follow. Having previously sold out large venues such as NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom, The Beacon Theater and Asbury Park’s Paramount Theater, it is really no surprise that Gramercy Theater’s 500-person capacity was sold out in a matter of minutes.

Thursday night’s show was definitely not your standard showy Lindsey Stirling live fare, but that did not make it any less noteworthy. The intimate setting and stripped down production allowed Stirling to shine in a way that few fans have ever experienced before. “I am up here giving my all without any costumes or dancers to hide behind, just me my band and my violin,” she addressed the audience at one point.

As a showcase show, New York City’s fans had the chance to listen to Stirling’s latest album, Artemis, before it even hit the shelves. Stirling was candid about her performance; stating that the art of playing songs live is very different from practicing them in her living room, but despite the violinist’s humble explanation, fans were dished out an incredible treat of raw, heartfelt talent.

Artemis, now out via BMG, is a deeply personal album about Stirling’s struggle to overcome grief. As such, I feel like the intimate setting truly lent a hand to let those songs shine in their truest, most emotional form.

From here, Lindsey Stirling will embark on a number of international dates beginning on September 12th in Germany, followed by a slew of other major cities including Munich, Milan, Kraków, Warsaw, Berlin, Zurich and London.

TOOL Claims #1 Spot on Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart

TOOL celebrates their third consecutive #1 debut on Billboard’s Top 200, with Fear Inoculum (RCA Records) reigning over the U.S. sales charts, selling 270,000 units.

The news of Fear Inoculum’s impressive debut comes amidst news stories of the album release being met by lengthy lines at retailers as music lovers clamored to get a copy of the limited edition, physical version of the CD. The spectacular, groundbreaking packaging boasts a 4” HD rechargeable screen with exclusive video footage, charging cable, 2 watt speaker, a 36-page booklet and a digital download card. The Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) released a rare statement, describing the event-like album release: “Several stores had well-attended midnight sales on Thursday (it was my store’s first midnight sale in 10 years). When we returned to work on Friday morning, there were lines at the door… the TOOL release was the biggest thing to hit retail in years.”

The success wasn’t isolated to the U.S., with the album debuting at #1 in Australia, Norway, New Zealand, and Belgium, as well as Top 5 debuts in the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Ireland, Italy and Finland.

Critically, the album was met with equal enthusiasm. NPR proclaimed “Fear Inoculum was worth the 13-year wait,” NME awarded the 10-track offering a perfect 5 star score, The Atlantic dubbed it “precise and devastating,” Revolver declared it “a masterpiece that will be dissected for years to come” and Entertainment Weekly said the collection is “deeply satisfying, both as a distinct artistic statement and as accidental fan service to a base that expects nothing less than unflinchingly unique artistic statements.”

News of the Fear Inoculum’s impressive debut follows the announcement of TOOL’s first North American tour in support of the album.

Of Mice & Men Share New Song + Video “Taste Of Regret”

Of Mice & Men Share New Song & Video “Taste Of Regret”
New Album Earthandsky Out September 27

Of Mice & Men will release their sixth album EARTHANDSKY on September 27 via Rise Records. The album is available for pre-order here.

The band has just shared the new track and video “Taste of Regret.” Watch and listen here.

“‘Taste of Regret’ is a song about knowing when to pick your battles, and also knowing when to shut your mouth and bite your tongue,” said singer and bassist Aaron Pauley. “‘Loose lips sink ships,’ as the age old cliché goes. There’s a lot of truth in that though. One’s loud mouth can ruin their life.”

Drummer Tino Arteaga weighed in about the video, saying, “Pulling inspiration from old psychological thrillers and filmmaking from the ’70s and ’80s, ‘Taste of Regret’ continues our ongoing visual narrative of the previous three videos for this album at an alternate point in the timeline.”

Of Mice & Men also shared the video for the title track, stylized as “Earth & Sky.” Watch and listen here.

The band will embark on a headline tour this fall, with For the Fallen Dreams, Thousand Below, and Bloodbather in tow. All dates are below. A second leg set for 2020 will be announced shortly.

Otherwise Announce New Studio Album Defy For November 8th

Otherwise And Mascot Records Announce Global
Release Of New Studio Album Defy On November 8

Pre-order linkhttps://smarturl.it/OTHERWISEmusic

OTHERWISE and Mascot Records will release the band’s new studio album globally on November 8.  The record is the band’s fourth studio release of new repertoire, and first for Mascot Label Group.

A little danger makes rock music memorable. The edges cut deep and hit just as hard as any hook does, leaving a mark forever. Tapping into the spirit of rebelliousness, OTHERWISE embrace those edges on Defy. The Las Vegas quartet—Adrian Patrick [lead vocals], Ryan Patrick [guitar, vocals], Tony Carboney [bass, vocals], and Brian Medeiros [drums]—push the boundaries of their signature style in terms of both songcraft and sonic experimentation alike. Most importantly, the boys hold nothing back…

“Rock ‘n’ roll was always meant to be dangerous,” Adrian proclaims. “We grew up in the last era where nineties bands were Soul Rebels. They stood for something. They didn’t conform. Since the greatest risks yield the greatest return, why play it safe? We decided to swing for the fucking fences this time. In between the last album and now, we changed everything. I had two sons, and it took their births for me to go, ‘Fuck it, we’ve got to shoot for the goddamned stars’.”

An impressive run thus far fortified a launchpad for them to shoot for the stars. OTHERWISE’s quiet grind quietly elevated the group to the forefront of 21stcentury rock. Since their self-titled independent debut in 2006, they unleashed a string of fan favorite albums—True Love Never Dies[2012], Peace At All Costs[2014], and Sleeping Lions [2017]. Along the way, they tallied 40 million-plus streams and shared the stage with everyone from Stone Sour to Papa Roach in addition to shutting down Welcome To RockvilleRocklahoma, and Shiprocked!, to name a few. Sleeping Lionssignaled the current turning point. They welcomed Tony and Brian into the fold, and it would be their last offering for their previous label.

In 2018, they enlisted a new team and signed to Mascot. They also linked up with producer Matt Good [Asking Alexandria, Hollywood Undead] for the first time, commuting from Las Vegas to his Phoenix studio in order to cut these eleven tracks.  “We hinted at an explorative spirit before, but Defy is the full embrace of that adventurousness,” he goes on. “We got to a point of where we’re supposed to be, creatively speaking. It’s a new chapter all-around, and we’re fired up about it. Matt is the fastest and most creative, prolific producer we’ve ever worked with. He’s the kind of guy we’ve always wanted in our corner. This is also the second album with Brian and Tony. Everybody locked in. We got to explore together. It’s still familiar, but it’s a different beast.”

The first single “Lifted” proves that. A wiry riff snakes around blunt lyrics “about getting fucked up, alcohol, and drugs…it got me kicked off tours and banned from festivals.”Over handclaps, he admits, “I’m living it up with a cup full of God knows what, got lines to cut.” “It’s about all of the same shit that got me in to trouble, and the label thought it was the best single to lead with,” chuckles Adrian. “It’s fun. I’ve been the guy the song is about. I’ve lived that life. I’ve been there. It’s real.”

The opener “Bad Trip” kicks down the door with ominous electronics and glitchy echoes before a hard-hitting and hypnotic chant inspired by “an experience where my wife and I had a bad vacation together, but it ended up being a good time. It also serves double duty as commentary on the current nebulous state of affairs we find ourselves mired in a as a nation…as human beings on this planet.

Elsewhere, “Don’t Even” takes no prisoners with a stranglehold groove and knockout chorus. “We were without a label and back to being a garage band,” recalls Adrian. “We just decided to call everybody out on ‘Don’t Even’.”  The anthemic “Ain’t Done Yet” doubles as “OTHERWISE’s mission statement.”Meanwhile, the emotionally charged closer “Good Fight” strikes a different chord with its orchestral buildup and soaring refrain. “It’s for my wife and sons as well as all of our families and friends who’ve had our backs in this crazy life by music,” smiles Adrian. “It’s the last one we did. My dad always said, ‘You’ve got to fight the good fight’.I felt some deeper connection to the phrase. It’s like it came from eons and generations ago. This notion of fighting the good fight is part of our DNA.”

In the end, OTHERWISE do the most dangerous thing possible and uproot all expectations.

“When you listen to the record, I hope you go, ‘I did not expect that, but I love it’,” Adrian leaves off. “It’s real rock ‘n’ roll with live guitars and drums, but it’s personal. This is my fucking life. There’s no turning back. This band is the future of my family. It means everything to me—and all of us. This is OTHERWISE.”
