Korn is an American nu metal band from Bakersfield, California, originally formed in 1993 by James “Munky” Shaffer, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu and David Silveria, who were members of the band L.A.P.D. Killswitch Engage – This Consequence | Album Review

This was first time since Alive Or Just Breathing that the band hashed everything out together in the same room as a combined effort. You get that vibe because this is definitely a dyed in the wool Killswitch album. “Abandon Us” kicks off with a lot of fire and great guitar work, the closing track “Requiem” also ends the album with a big statement. The writing through the album is reflective of current issues going on in the world and in our own backyard. Killswitch is paying attention and trying to relate some issues. If you enjoyed the previous release Atonement, then This Consequence should be up your alley. It does not venture far away from past Killswitch material in tone or energy. The writing and hooks are solid, Adam’s guitarwork still has plenty of fire, and with some updated production Killswitch Engage still no how to execute modern melodic metalcore. 7/10

Killswitch Engage – This Consequence | Album Review

Killswitch Engage – This Consequence (Full Album)

“Get ready to immerse yourself in the latest metalcore masterpiece from Killswitch Engage, as they unveil their highly anticipated ninth studio album, “This Consequence”. Released on February 21, 2025, via Metal Blade Records, this album marks a significant milestone in the band’s 25-year career. With Jesse Leach at the helm, Killswitch Engage continues to blend melodic brilliance with unrelenting aggression, showcasing intricate guitar riffs and dynamic drum patterns. Tracks like “Discordant Nation,” “Aftermath,” and “Forever Aligned” highlight the band’s technical prowess and fresh spirit. While maintaining their signature sound, Killswitch Engage explores themes of love, resilience, and societal corruption through Jesse Leach’s powerful vocals. This album is a testament to their enduring influence in modern metalcore and promises an exhilarating experience for both new fans and long-time enthusiasts alike.” (Perplexity)

MANY EYES Shares New Music Video for “Speechless”

Emerging metallic hardcore outfit MANY EYES is now debuting the official music video for the song, “Speechless,” which was filmed on day off during the band’s recent North American tour at Mahall’s Lanes in Lakewood, OH. The video can be found at THIS LOCATION.

“’Speechless’ was the first song I ever demoed for Many Eyes,” explains Buckley. “It set a standard for us that we still aspire towards when writing even to this day-make it heavy, make it good, make it cool.”

“Speechless” is taken from the band’s debut full-length, ‘The Light Age,’ which was released in September 2024 via Perseverance Media Group! The album can be found HERE.

Many Eyes began in the winter of 2022 when Keith Buckley (Ex-Every Time I Die, The Damned Things) connected with brothers Nick (Producer/ Owner of Dexter’s Lab Recording) and Charlie Bellmore (Corpsegrinder/ Toxic Holocaust) through their mutual friend, Jamey Jasta, frontman for metal legends Hatebreed. ‘The Light Age’ was written and recorded over a few weeks in both Buffalo, NY, and Milford, CT, where the members reside.

Many Eyes is currently working on their second album.

MANY EYES is about to embark on its third U.S. tour, supporting THE AMITY AFFLICTION alongside HAIL THE SUN. Recently, they supported the legendary SUM 41 on their final tour, stoner rock stalwarts CLUTCH, and post-hardcore icons, THURSDAY. Their ability to engage an array of audiences shows a prowess in crossing genres. With Alan Hague now on guitar and Sean Vallie on bass, alongside Nick Bellmore’s powerful drumming and Keith Buckley’s commanding vocals, the band remains focused on pushing forward and exploring new creative horizons.

MANY EYES will hit the road next week on February 27 in Phoenix, AZ. The band has now added several headlining shows to the itinerary, which can be found below while tickets will be available HERE.

Lacuna Coil – Sleepless Empire | Album Review

This album has rekindled my appreciation for Lacuna Coil. The speed is fairly consistent through the runtime of Sleepless Empire and it’s the tone that shifts from bright and energetic to dark, low and horrifying. Some of the guitarwork is crushing. Salomone’s flourishes and solos add a ton to bolster the tracks. As is standard, the presence of Cristina’s amazing high singing with Andrea’s bombastic growl and low range is excellent. Adding collaborations including a killer Randy Blythe performance makes everything feel big. I’m not going to say this is far outside of Lacuna Coil’s wheelhouse, but most all of it feels fresh for Lacuna Coil. Lyric writing is vicious and haunting, riffs and percussion are huge, there is a lot that works. No one is going to sleep while listening to Sleepless Empire and that’s a great thing. 8/10.

Lacuna Coil “I Wish You Were Dead”
Lacuna Coil “Hosting The Shadow” ft. Randy Blythe

Sleepless Empire is the tenth studio album by Italian gothic metal band Lacuna Coil, released on 14 February 2025, through Century Media Records. It follows their 2019 album, Black Anima, and marks a return to a heavier, more experimental musical direction. The album was preceded by five singles: “Never Dawn,” “In the Mean Time,” “Hosting the Shadow,” “Oxygen,” and “I Wish You Were Dead”.

“The Best Metal Performance category, which has been a Grammy staple since 1990, has long been a platform for recognizing exceptional heavy metal talent. Metallica holds the record with seven wins, demonstrating the category’s significance in honoring artistic achievement in metal music. This year’s win by Gojira not only celebrates their innovative approach to metal but also underscores the genre’s ability to blend historical themes with contemporary performance art.

The 2025 Grammy Awards showcased the vibrant world of metal music with an electrifying Best Metal Performance category that celebrated the genre’s dynamic evolution. French metal band Gojira made history by winning their first Grammy for “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira!)”, a powerful track originally performed during the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony. The competitive category featured heavyweight metal acts including Metallica, Judas Priest, Knocked Loose (featuring Poppy), and Spiritbox, highlighting the breadth and depth of contemporary metal music.” (Perplexity)

“The 2025 Grammy Awards showcased an electrifying celebration of rock and metal music, with Gojira emerging as the standout winner in the Best Metal Performance category for their powerful Olympic performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ca Ira!)”. The rock categories featured an impressive lineup of legendary and emerging artists, including nominations for iconic bands like The Beatles, Pearl Jam, and The Rolling Stones, alongside rising acts like Green Day and Fontaines D.C.. The metal category was particularly competitive, with heavyweight contenders like Metallica, Judas Priest, and Spiritbox competing for the top honor. Music fans celebrated the increased diversity in the rock and metal nominations, noting the notable presence of female artists like Marina Viotta, Poppy, and St. Vincent, marking significant progress in genre representation. With a mix of classic rock veterans and innovative new artists, the 2025 Grammy Awards demonstrated the continued vitality and evolution of rock and metal music.” (Perplexity)

Metal Is Not Controversial Anymore

Metal had an amazing year in 2024 and it leads to prove (along with other reasons) how as time has gone on, metal is not controversial anymore.

“Metal music has evolved beyond its controversial origins, transforming into a diverse and mature musical genre that challenges early stereotypes. The genre has moved past its initial shock-value reputation, with subgenres ranging from progressive and folk metal to more nuanced artistic expressions. While early perceptions painted metal as exclusively about “hatred” and “extreme violence”, contemporary metal has become a complex musical form that attracts fans across different age groups, with many metal show attendees being in their 30s and 40s. The music now encompasses a wide range of themes and emotional depths, moving beyond simplistic narratives of rebellion or Satanism. Modern metal fans appreciate the genre’s musical complexity, technical skill, and diverse storytelling, demonstrating that what was once considered controversial has now become a respected and sophisticated musical art form.” (Perplexity)
