Trivium Share New Recording Of “Coração Não Tem Idade (Vou Beijar)”

TRIVIUM SHARE NEW RECORDING OF
“CORAÇÃO NÃO TEM IDADE (VOU BEIJAR)” FEAT. TOY

GRAMMY-nominated group Trivium have teamed with the legendary Portuguese artist Toy to release a reimagined version of his song “Coração Não Tem Idade (Vou Beijar)” — listen here. Available now on all streaming platforms, the recording finds Trivium and Toy joining forces to deliver a heavy a take on the classic track sung entirely in Portuguese.

Trivium and Toy first connected after Trivium vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy shared a cover of “Coração Não Tem Idade (Vou Beijar)” on his Twitch channel back in 2018. A year later, Toy joined Trivium on stage in Portugal at VOA Festival 2019 for a performance of Trivium’s “Until The World Goes Cold.” A bond was cemented, and discussions of a collaboration began to build.

“The collaboration between Toy and Trivium has been nothing but unexpected and incredible — every step of the way,” says Heafy. “From its beginning, starting from a Twitch raid into my channel; into me doing a cover that would soon find itself on Portuguese national radio and national news; into a live duo that created madness not unlike a riot at a festival; then finally into a true, full band cover with a cameo by Toy himself.”

Heafy continues, “This cover, just like the original, makes you feel good. Whether you speak Portuguese or not, you’ll find yourself moving and singing along by the second chorus. We are proud to call Toy a friend, and we can’t wait to do this more and live together. We can’t wait to see what else we can create as a unit together.”

Trivium’s latest studio album, THE SIN AND THE SENTENCE, arrived to critical acclaim and earned the band a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Metal Performance” (“Betrayer“) at the 2019 awards. Recorded with producer Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God, Gojira) at Santa Ana, California’s Hybrid Studios, THE SIN AND THE SENTENCE is highlighted by the album’s title track, “Endless Night,” and “The Heart From Your Hate.” Moments of malevolent melodicism give way to taut technical thrash, black metal expanse, punk spirit, and heavy heart tightly threaded together by the musical union of the quartet—Matt Heafy [vocals, guitar], Corey Beaulieu [guitar], Paolo Gregoletto [bass], and Alex Bent [drums].

Trivium will finish out 2019 with a series of festival performances in Australia, which will include stops in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, as well as a headline performance in Canberra [full itinerary below]. Tickets for all dates are on sale now. For more information visit www.trivium.org.

STARSET Blasts into New York City | Photos

Photos of STARSET at The Gramercy Theater
All photos taken by Ana Santos
in New York City, NY on October 25th, 2019

It’s been almost two years since STARSET was last in New York City, then at the tail end of their tour in support of Vessels. With its third album, Divisions now out on Fearless Records, STARSET has undergone yet another striking evolution and with it, another chapter to the fascinating sci-fi lore that’s been interwoven into the band’s narrative since 2014’s Transmissions.

Having traded in the by now staple spacesuits for a Mad-Maxian dystopian aesthetic, this new era of Divisions demonstrations benefits from additional production both on stage and off. The idea of a conceptually-driven band isn’t new, and while very few truly manage to pull it off without feeling contrived, STARSET does a remarkable job with its use of technology to create a viral-like campaign surrounding every album release in a way that does not detract from the music.

And the music itself? Explosive.

With an uncanny ability to consistently improve and sound better and better with each tour, STARSET sounded phenomenal in New York City. The band sounded tighter as a whole – heavier – Bates’ vocals stronger, the inclusion of string instruments adding a new level of complexity to older songs I never realized I needed.

While the setlist naturally focused more heavily on new songs from Divisions, there was a hearty helping of older stand out tracks like “Monster,” “Carnivore,” “Telescope” and the finisher “My Demons” to make longtime fans happy.

After experienced most of STARSET’s New York City area demonstrations since late 2014, I’m constantly excited to see the band and gain more traction, improve and evolve. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

STARSET is:
Dustin Bates (vocals)
Brock Richards (guitar)

Ghost Perform A Ritual In Hershey, PA | Photos

Photos of Ghost at Giant Center.
All photos and review by Gretchen Smither
in Hershey, PA on October 24th, 2019.

Hershey may be the sweetest place on earth, but no one was there for the chocolate on October 24. Instead of perusing Chocolate World, a ritual was taking place elsewhere that drew quite the crowd. If you’ve never attended a ritual directed by Cardinal Copia, you’re missing out on a truly religious experience.

Aside from this night’s performance, I had only seen Ghost perform twice prior. The first time, I was still learning about the band and the music, so I wasn’t expecting the performance they are known for. It was also at a smaller, intimate venue located in Richmond, VA. The second time I saw Ghost perform was when they closed out the first night of Sonic Temple in May 2019. This alone was a far different experience for me from the first time I saw them a few months prior. This third time was probably the best I’ve seen them, which is saying something, because I was blown away with their performances before.

Kicking off the set was “Rats,” their first single from their most recent album, Prequelle. Immediately, concert goers were off their feet, rocking hard to the sounds of Cardinal’s vocals and the Nameless Ghouls’ instruments. Speaking of the Nameless Ghouls, it almost seems unfair how they’re forever nameless, as their talents are vast and fans everywhere would love to shower each member with praise. But that surrounding mystery is just one part of the band’s appeal.

The band played their newest releases, “Mary on a Cross” and “Kiss the Go-Goat,” both of which have 60s vibes to them. Papa Nihil graced everyone with his sweet saxophone playing skills during “Miasma” and we were showered with Papa money and confetti during “Mummy Dust.” The night closed out with chart topping songs, “Dance Macabre” and “Square Hammer.”

Although Cardinal Copia’s arrival in April 2018 was met with some pushback from fans of the Papa incarnations, the leader of the band has become well-received. This was quite apparent in Hershey, as fans greeted Cardinal with jubilant shouts and enthusiastic calls. There was no denying that although Cardinal is not a Papa, yet, he can still lead with great vigor. By the end of the evening, everyone had their asses sufficiently wobbled and taints abundantly tickled. The Ultimate Tour Named Death in North America wrapped up on October 26 in Glens Falls, NY. Rituals will continue throughout Europe in mid-November.

Highly Suspect Release New Single “Canals”

Highly Suspect release new single “Canals”

Announce 2020 North America Headline Tour Album MCID drops November 1st

Gearing up for their upcoming album release, MCID, Highly Suspect drops single Canals via 300 Entertainment.  In the midst of their US headline tour, alongside supporting act Slothruth, the group is anticipating their forthcoming album while connecting with fans in every city. Today, Highly Suspect also announced their 27 city North America Headline with a show at NYC’s Terminal 5 in May. Tickets go on sale 11/1 at 10am local time.

“Canals,” is the second single from the band’s highly anticipated Junior album, MCID. The song meshes classical rock with the soulful chants of a Swahili choir, and captures lead singer Johnny Stevens’ frustration with the Trump presidency, saying that his rage feels like “someone took a crack pipe, lit it with a torchlight, and threw it on a gas line- there is fire everywhere.”  “Canals” sets the bar high for the remainder of the album and excites fans for the sounds that Highly Suspect has in store.

After dropping a genre-bending collaboration with Young Thug titled “Tokyo Ghoul,” the 3x Grammy Award-nominated rock band surely is turning rock music on its head. The rock band, who have topped the active rock charts multiple times, are also leading with a track with not a single guitar in it, ’16’- which is currently top 10 at active rock radio and is climbing the alternative charts.

The integrated genre of MCID is not just the third full-length project from three guys who approach the rock genre with a hip hop ethos, but it’s a family meeting and an apology from singer Johnny Stevens whose lyrics demand accountability from himself and urge him to be more honest to conquer the demons that made him who he is. With stories of heartbreak and hope, it’s not surprising that his most vulnerable collection of songs is addressed directly to his chosen family, his followers, and his comrades. The transparency and emotion of the new music only showcases the intensity that MCID will have throughout.
