“Kid Rock, the controversial musician known for his outspoken political views, found himself in hot water after a recent Rolling Stone interview. According to journalist David Peisner, during their conversation, Rock allegedly brandished a handgun, waving it around while shouting. The interview also revealed Rock’s liberal use of racial slurs, including repeatedly uttering the N-word. This incident has sparked outrage and criticism, further fueling the debate surrounding Rock’s embrace of far-right ideologies and his polarizing persona in the entertainment industry.

“In 2021, Kid Rock was caught on video using a homophobic slur onstage and later doubled down on using the slur in a social media post. In 2017, he made transphobic comments during a speech at his annual Fish Fry event, questioning LGBTQ+ rights and saying “whatever you have between your legs should determine the bathroom that you use.” (Perplexity)

Don’t listen to Kid Rock. It’s a message I will continue to spread until Kid Rock is finally done talking, because every time he talks things only get worse for everyone.

Sum 41 Bids an Unforgettable Farewell to Norfolk

With the announcement over a year ago that Sum 41 would be disbanding following the release of their final album “Heaven x Hell” and the headlining tour to coincide with the release, I fully anticipated a packed crowd at The NorVa in Norfolk, VA on May 19. Even with the concert falling on a Sunday with the work week looming ahead, fans showed up for a concert to remember.

Before the Ontario based rock band took the stage, the crowd was treated to a highly energized performance from the ska punk band The Interrupters. Not only did the band manage to get the crowd hyped up early on, but their interactions with the crowd were top tier. At one point during the performance, singer Aimee Interrupter’s microphone power cut out, but the crowd didn’t miss a beat and picked up the vocals until the power came back. Once the set was over, the band continued to engage with the crowd by greeting fans along the barricade, passing out guitar picks and drumsticks, as well as signing anything fans had to offer.

Right before Sum 41 took the stage, I looked out over the crowd. I have never seen The NorVa quite so packed in all my times of attending shows there. It was clear no one wanted to miss the chance to see Sum 41 perform for what may be the very last time as a band.

Once the lights went down indicating the band was about to take the stage, the energy from the crowd never dwindled the rest of the evening. Sum 41 made sure they were going to go out big, offering not only hit after hit of both older and newer songs, but they were bringing out all the effects, such as confetti, streamers (which did end up getting caught in the giant metal fan spinning directly above the floor of The NorVa), lasers, smoke, and even giant balloons.

Singer Deryck Whibley kept the crowd energized and moving by encouraging jumping in place, as well as opening up pits on the floor, all while he was running from one side of the stage to the other. The energy from both the crowd and the band never faltered the entire night through what was an incredible setlist.

The first leg of the final tour featuring US tour dates wrapped up with this performance in Norfolk, but a second leg will begin later this summer. They will also be touring in the UK starting in June. If you are able to make it to one of Sum 41’s final performances, I highly recommend you do so for a fun and unforgettable event.

Dropkick Murphys returned to fully electric performances in late 2023 following a pair of critically acclaimed acoustic albums – 2022’s This Machine Still Kills Fascists and 2023’s Okemah Rising – interpreting the work of Woody Guthrie for a new generation. The albums, recorded in Tulsa with trusted collaborator and producer Ted Hutt, exposed the band to new audiences through airplay on stations like SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country, coverage in outlets such as Rolling Stone CountryPaste, CNN, Americana Highways and SPIN, and via Dropkick Murphys’ first-ever acoustic, reserved-seating theater tour in 2022.

Dropkick Murphys are: Ken Casey (lead vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, tin whistle, accordion, piano, vocals), Jeff DaRosa (guitars, banjo, mandolin, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, percussion, and vocals), James Lynch (guitars and vocals), and Kevin Rheault (bass). Joining the band for their live shows is bagpiper and multi-instrumentalist Campbell Webster.

Formed in the South Bay of Los Angeles—a neighborhood with a rich punk-rock history—in 1988, Pennywise went on to amass an international following with their relentless touring and a melodic, high-energy sound fusing classic punk, surf punk, and blistering hardcore. Resolutely working outside the margins of the mainstream, the band–singer Jim Lindberg, guitarist Fletcher Dragge, drummer Byron McMackin, and bassist Randy Bradbury–has emerged as an enduringly vibrant staple on SoCal radio airwaves and the worldwide festival circuit.

JINJER Releases Poignant Live Video For Hit Track “Home Back”!

JINJER 2024

JINJER, Ukraine’s most dynamic musical force, has just unleashed a new live video for their gripping anti-war anthem, “Home Back”. The live version of the song is cut from their highly anticipated first official live DVD/BluRay, Live in Los Angeles, set to be released this Friday, May 17 via Napalm Records. Originally the track appeared on JINJER’s 2019 studio album, Macro. This meaningful song holds profound significance and perfectly embraces the sense of the new live album. In fact, filmed on December 22, 2022 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA, USA, Live in Los Angeles not only honors their endurance through recent challenges, but also celebrates their triumphant 15-year journey.

During these years, JINJER attained remarkable milestones, touring globally and captivating millions at prestigious festivals like Hellfest, Rock am Ring, Graspop Metal Meeting, Download Festival and Rocklahoma USA. Moreover, their latest triumph, the acclaimed studio album Wallflowers, broke charts worldwide, soaring to #1 on both the US Billboard Top New Artist Album charts and Canadian Hard Music album charts, #2 on the US Hard Music album charts, #5 on the official UK Rock & Metal album charts and #7 on the official German album charts.

JINJER on “Home Back”:
“Since it‘s original release back in 2019, ‘Home Back’ has become another anthem for JINJER and our followers. From its upbeat musical groove to its lyrics charged with pacifism and unfortunate predictions about the state of the world we find ourselves in today, we felt like this was no brainer to release as the third single for the Live In Los Angeles DVD!”

Live in Los Angeles was a spontaneous decision by the band, recorded as raw as possible, to emphasize the passion that can come from a live show. This release is an explosive mixture of JINJER’s discography – featuring fan favorites like “Sit Stay Roll Over”“Call Me A Symbol” and the game changing “Pisces”. The live album contains 16 songs in various audio formats, with some strictly limited: the Deluxe Digipack features not only a DVD, but also two more songs, “Wallflower” & “Disclosure!”, recorded in Paris in 2023.

Pre-order your copy of Live in Los Angeles NOW

With feisty growls and soul-shattering clean vocals, the live energy of frontwoman Tatiana Shmayluk presented on Live in Los Angeles leaves the listener breathless, whilst lethally groovy riffs and multifarious drums culminate to a technical masterpiece, cutting sharp like a razorblade. Live in Los Angeles is JINJER at the top of their game – breaking every rule in heavy metal by doing things their very own way, and preparing fans for the next step of their world domination!

JINJER on Live in Los Angeles:
“Our sold-out Los Angeles show at the end of our 2022 tour was the perfect time and place to do something special – something like a long-awaited DVD/live album by JINJER! The totally packed, legendary venue, the crazy west coast vibes, and most importantly, the band delivering it with full force after being on tour for 6 months around the globe – from Europe to Australia and back to the USA – made this an extra special night. For the fans who joined us that night at The Wiltern, it was an unforgettable concert, but now every single JINJER supporter around the world can experience and enjoy an ideal set featuring our biggest hits from older albums as well as recent bangers. This is not just a DVD or a live album, but a celebration of the first 15 years of the JINJER story, right before we move on to the next chapter…”

Apocalyptica Drop New Single feat. James Hetfield

Apocalyptica 2024

Apocalyptica are thrilled to announce the third single from Apocalyptica Plays Metallica, Vol. 2 – the hotly-anticipated sequel to their legendary debut record. One falls hot on the heels of first singles The Four Horsemen and The Unforgiven II, and features none other than Metallica frontman James Hetfield himself.

Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2 will continue the journey that began in 1996 when cellists from Helsinki’s world-renowned Sibelius Academy played symphonic tribute to the biggest of the big four – heavy metal titans Metallica. For their tenth record the classically-minded dynamos are returning to their roots to bring a legendary story full circle. It also features a host of surprises, including an unprecedented collaboration.

Third single One, taken from Metallica’s 1988 landmark …And Justice For All is a breathtaking reinterpretation of one of the biggest of The Big Four’s greatest musical moments – a true crowning creative achievement in their staggering 40 year career. In a stunning development, the single sees Metallica frontman James Hetfield himself joining proceedings for a soul-stirring, spoken-word rendition of those inimitable, now immortal lyrics. More than a unique collaboration, this is history in the making.

“I think it’s incredible that James wanted to do it,” says Eicca Toppinen. “We were always thinking, ‘it’d be great to someday do something with Metallica!’ I think the excitement for him came from the different approach we were taking – sometimes the craziest ideas are what excites people and that was our challenge.”

“We used everything at our disposal to make it as bombastic as possible. It had to be epic! The result was truly cinematic, with James Hetfield narrating the story with those poetic lyrics. It was powerful and touching,” adds Perttu Kivilaakso. “As a fan I have to say it was unbelievable to finally hear it. I was in my home crying. My hands were shaking. It was an incredible journey.”

Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2 was produced by longtime collaborator and studio supremo Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Tool) and will be released via new label Throwdown Entertainment on June 7th.

Tracklisting:

  1. Ride the Lightning
  2. St. Anger
  3. The Unforgiven II
  4. Blackened
  5. The Call of Ktulu (in memory of Cliff Burton)
  6. The Four Horsemen (ft. Rob Trujillo)
  7. Holier Than Thou
  8. To Live Is To Die
  9. One (ft.. James Hetfield)
  10. One (Instrumental)

Mortal Reminder’s debut album now available

Mortal Reminder, a metalcore group just making their debut now in 2024, has released their debut self-titled album as of now.

It’s almost impossible to track all the newcomers in the metal scene, as the genre is in something of a boom period now. To truly stand out, you need to have a catchy/unique take on the genre that listeners can’t find somewhere else. Mortal Reminder turned a lot of heads in their debut at the start of this year with singles “Stand Aside” and “Suffer to Love” truly captivating tastemakers and newcomers alike. Combining members of Sirens & Sailors, Deadculture, and Degrader, it’s a melting pot of ghost snare notes, syncopated guitar lines, and in-your-face vocal attacks across the self-titled record. Mixed and mastered by Scott Seigel (Woe, is Me, Darknet), the monstrous sound is bassy, punchy, and just downright vicious at points.

Accompanied by a captivating black-and-white music video, Mortal Reminder’s single “Stand Aside” features lophiile (ex-Issues) on the turntables who would seem out of place if it weren’t such a seamless bridge within the heaviness. Doug Court, Nick Lord, and Nick Smith coming together for this album embodies the phrase “supergroup” as there’s no lull on Mortal Reminder – just a bevy of riffs, breakdowns, and screams. This is evident outside of the singles, with “Love to Suffer” seguing the controlled chaos and the ending of closer “Last Whisper” being so catastrophically gargantuan that it led to the album’s release on Spotify being delayed due to file corruption.

Reminding me why I fell in love with the genre, Mortal Reminder’s 30-minute offering is chock full of the good stuff and lax on the filler. It’s a record that doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but doesn’t have to – just a solid come-up and a debut that deserves more ears after the launch hiccup on Spotify. Keep an eye on Mortal Reminder as this is just the beginning.

WAGE WAR Share “Tombstone” From Upcoming Album Stigma

WAGE WAR — Briton Bond [lead vocals], Cody Quistad [rhythm guitar, clean vocals], Seth Blake [lead guitar], Chris Gaylord [bass], and Stephen Kluesener [drums] — have entered their world domination era. Last month, the Florida band has announced its fifth album STIGMA, which arrives digitally on June 21 via Fearless Records, while the physical version will land in stores on September 6. Pre-order it here.

Today, the band has shared “TOMBSTONE.” Listen here.

The band has also dropped the visualizer. Watch it here

“Metal riffs meet country western tropes in our new track ‘TOMBSTONE,'” the band explains. “A final showdown with an enemy.  One fight. Two dogs unleashed.”

From its ominous, tension-building opening seconds through the deadly breakdowns, Wage War go hard on “TOMBSTONE.” It’s got vocals that sound like screamer Briton Bond gargled with a razor blade cocktail, thick and groovy riffs that’’ll have you nodding your head, and battering ram percussion. “TOMBSTONE” finds Wage War, unleashing a hellacious anthem that brings the heavy artillery from start to stomp to finish.

STIGMA TRACK LISTING:
“THE SHOW’S ABOUT TO START”
“SELF SACRIFICE”
MAGNETIC
NAIL5
“BLUR”
“TOMBSTONE”
“HAPPY HUNTING”
“HELLBENT”
“IN MY BLOOD”
“IS THIS HOW IT ENDS?”

ABOUT WAGE WAR:
Traveling a constant forward trajectory at lightspeed, Wage War not only push their own sound forward, but they also propel heavy music into new territory. The Florida quintethave always tempered a pummeling metallic onslaught with unshakable melodies. A near-decade grind naturally brought Wage War to this point. They have unleashed a string of fan favorite albums, including Blueprints [2015], Deadweight [2017], Pressure [2019], and Manic [2021]. Beyond looks from SPINModern DrummerAmerican SongwriterRevolverGuitar World, and more, KERRANG! hailed the latter as “their greatest album yet,” and DORK raved, “It’s an embracing of being metalheads, popheads and just fans of good songs. On more than one occasion, there’s an earworm poking its head up through the dirt.” They also put up numbers, tallying hundreds of millions of streams boosted by the likes of “Stitch,” “Low,” “Manic,” and “Circle The Drain.” On their fifth full-length offering STIGMA [Fearless Records], Wage War outfit their signature style with industrial grit and electronic sheen, leveling up into the future in the process with singles such as “MAGNETIC” and “NAIL5.”
