Avatar share dark new single “Colossus” from ‘Hunter Gatherer’

As AVATAR steps closer to the highly-anticipated release of their eighth full-length, Hunter Gatherer, the band has delighted fans once again with the debut of their third single from the record, “Colossus”. Unsettling electronic instrumentation sets the tone as Johannes Eckerström provides the introduction to the track, from which the band bursts into chugging guitar lines, eerie verses and soaring choruses – culminating in one of the most dynamic tracks on the album. The accompanying video for “Colossus” mirrors the dystopian reincarnation of the band as it explores humanity’s vicious and complex relationship with technology and control. “Colossus” serves as the dark counterpart to previously released singles from Hunter Gatherer – “God of Sick Dreams” and “Silence in the Age of Apes” – the latter of which is already named one of the best metal songs of the year so far by Loudwire.

Their bold manifesto, Hunter Gatherer, is an unflinchingly ruthless study of a clueless humankind’s ever-increasing velocity into an uncertain future, furthering the reach of the band’s always expanding dark roots. The forthcoming album is the darkest, most sinister version of the band yet, with deep studies of cruelty, technology, disdain, and deprivation. Already one of Metal Hammer’s most anticipated metal albums of the year, Hunter Gatherer is now available for pre-order here ahead of its official release on August 7th.

Earlier this year the band marked the end of the Avatar Country storyline with the heartfelt thank you video A Farewell To Avatar Country, concluding the realm created by the band and actualized in their epic featurette Legend Of Avatar Country: A Metal Odyssey that blew past a $50,000  Kickstarter campaign goal in less than  90 minutes. Released in 2018, Avatar Country debuted at #2 Indie, #4 Hard Music, #8 Rock, and #25 on the Billboard 200 Chart and gathering support from Loudwire, Revolver, Metal Hammer, Metal Injection, Rock Sound, Alternative Press, New Noise and many more for their music and storytelling ability.

In 2019, AVATAR reunited with producer Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Anthrax) at Sphere Studios in Los Angeles, California, where the foundation for each song on Hunter Gatherer was laid with the band performing altogether, as they’d done only once before, on Hail the Apocalypse (2014). The old-school method of playing as one in the studio, more akin to how they are on stage, captured the essence of AVATAR. Recorded entirely to two-inch tape, Hunter Gatherer exhibits everything that makes AVATAR standouts in the vast, rich landscape of heavy metal’s past and present.

Through ambitious compositions and vibrant visual storytelling AVATAR seamlessly blurs the line between sights and sounds. AVATAR songs are new anthems for the ages, precision heat-seeking missiles targeting a cultural landscape ready for fresh songs to champion from a band with a giant persona to rally behind. The AVATAR experience is challenging, daring, and altogether captivating.

Tracklist:
1. Silence in the Age of Apes

3. A Secret Door

THE DEVIL’S TRADE Releases New Song, “Három Árva”

Dark singer-songwriter act THE DEVIL’S TRADE has shared the new song, “Három Árva.” The song is taken from the band’s upcoming record, ‘The Call of the Iron Peak,’ due on August 28. The emotional song can be heard along with an accompanying video here or below:

Frontman Dávid Makó comments on the track: “‘Három Árva’ is a cover of a Hungarian folk song, so called legend ballad from Kalotaszeg, Transylvania. It is about three orphans maltreated by their stepmother so trying to connect their dead mother to call her back. Christianity and occultism lives perfectly together in this song. The orphans manage to talk to their mothers but she can’t help them. I heard this song from Maria Sebestyén and Gergely Agócs but I never thought of singing it. If you listen to those two sing any songs you would understand why. It is another dimension of vocals that I feel blasphemy to try to enter.  Also there is nothing wrong with a little blasphemy so I made my own version of the song. There are folk songs that will find their way into your life no matter how hard you try to avoid them.”

‘The Call of the Iron Peak’ can be pre-ordered HERE.

The stunning cover artwork of ‘The Call of the Iron Peak,’ which is created by ‘Grindesign’ (BENIGHTED), can be found below along with the tracklist.

Listen to the call of the Iron Peak. It is calling for you to find your true self in a world you want to be isolated from. It is calling for you to make peace with yourself, with the inevitable end. It is calling for Hungarian singer-songwriter Dávid Makó, who redefined himself as The Devil’s Trade a few years ago, embarking on a long journey with his deeply personal and dark, sometimes doom infused folk songs.

Be it the folk of the Appalachians or the tales of Hungarian and Transylvanian traditionals, The Devil’s Trade fuses his past of metal and his roots laying deep in the folk songs of his immediate surroundings.

Very much like how the Iron Peak, a mountaintop both metaphorical and literal is calling for Makó, he is calling for you to share his rituals of loves and hopes lost and found along the pilgrimage of his. It is after all, the journey itself that matters the most, and how you adapt. From basements in his hometown of Budapest, to all corners of Europe, stages small and big, The Devil’s Trade has been relentlessly walking on his path finding his voice and calling, and that is to let listeners to glimpse into himself through his heart wrenching songs.

His new album, and his debut for Season of Mist, titled ‘The Call of the Iron Peak’ is to be released August 28, 2020.

IN HEARTS WAKE Debut “Dystopia” Music Video

Australian melodic metalcore outfit IN HEARTS WAKE have just released a fourth single, “Dystopia,” from their upcoming entirely carbon-offset album KALIYUGA, due out August 7 via UNFD. “Dystopia“–as seen below– takes a new musical approach for the band, with compelling drive, progression and layered melodic intricacy. The track, like the album, is inspired by the ‘Four Ages of Humanity.’

“‘Dystopia’ speaks of the fourth cycle and present age of the world known in Hinduism as ‘Kaliyuga,'” explains vocalist JAKE TAYLOR. “‘Kaliyuga’ is often referred to as the dark age due to the predominate traits of discord, disconnection, destruction, materialism, oppression, cruelty and fear. We look for the cause to cast the blame, but humanity need only look at itself in the mirror. It is time for us to face and overcome the issues and challenges that currently threaten all life on Earth.”

Dystopia” offers a way forward by encouraging listeners to question and see through the deadening status quo while providing inspiration to believe that our capability to grow and change the way we live on earth and with each other is limitless. The video for “Dystopia” takes the viewer through the different age cycles and acknowledges the challenges before us. Watch it below or HERE.

KALIYUGA is a ruthless scrutiny of self and the social and eco injustices and abuse at play today. The power and purpose of the record is evident in every facet of its making. IN HEARTS WAKE measured each power socket, light bulb, pound of freight, travel and food consumed during the recording process to find the total carbon footprint came to 26.37 tonnes of CO2e. This has been entirely offset through the purchase of carbon credits in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor of Western Australia. The album will also be packaged and manufactured plastic free, using recycled materials.

Vinyl copies of the album have been pressed on calcium based eco-plastic with recycled and eco-friendly packaging, coming in four different variants (molten, ash, flame and ignite). Having sold through most vinyl options globally within hours, today the band release a fifth ‘smoke’ variation. This white ‘smoke’ variant was set aside for an exclusive tour release but due to COVID-19 halting all tour plans for now, it has been made available. These are high demand products and will sell through quickly. Pre-order via the UNFD store here.

VantaVoid Debut New Single “Outcast”

The metal outfit, VantaVoid, comprised of Frank Gioia (CrankThatFrank) and Tyler Young (Makeout), have released their first single “Outcast.” This marks the first time the duo has released a song under the name VantaVoid, since previously working together and releasing a track for CrankThatFrank titled “Drowining” in July 2019.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7hq5sm83to&feature=youtu.be

STREAM “OUTCAST”:
Apple Music – https://apple.co/31FGXCA
Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3iodCm6

“The release of ‘Drowning’ went better than we ever could have imagined,” says Tyler“After a release like that, we knew we had to keep making songs.”

“Drowning” debuted at #1 on the iTunes metal charts, and the two knew that they had created something special. After some deliberation, they settled on the name VantaVoid, and went on to record a batch of new songs.

When asked about the meaning behind the new single, Frank explains, “Outcast is a song about a time in my life where I completely isolated myself from society. I was nihilistic, addicted, and trapped in my own hell. This song is cathartic for me because writing it made me feel like I buried a version of myself that I loathe. The lyrics sound like I’m talking about someone else, but I’m really just screaming at myself. I wrote the lyrics that way to tap into the gut-wrenching feelings we all get whether it be from a sour relationship, substance, or traumatic life experiences. I think it’s important to let songs have their own meaning for you.”

Frank went on to explain how the duo wrote their new tracks,

“We recorded a batch of songs that we plan to release in the coming months. All of these songs were recorded by Tyler in his apartment in LA and honestly, it’s a miracle he didn’t get an eviction notice. We were fortunate enough to have Drew Fulk (WZRD BLD) mix & master our tracks and he really dialed these songs up. The tracks are raw, visceral, and heavy.”

ALESTORM Releases New Official Animated Video

The notorious Pirate Kings ALESTORM hit the worldwide charts with their long-awaited long-player Curse Of The Crystal Coconut. Now the time has come to unleash the fourth video off the new album, “Shit Boat (No Fans)”. The animated masterpiece takes you straight onto the worst pirate ship you could possibly imagine – and ALESTORM takes no prisoners!

“Shit Boat (No Fans)” is about 75 seconds of music that will be stuck in your head forever. It’s pure hedonism and unadulterated fun – a trademark ALESTORM tune!

ALESTORM on “Shit Boat (No Fans)”:
“Oh wow, everyone knows that short songs are the best songs, so naturally we had to make a music video for the shortest song on our album. This animation was put together by the lovely people at RMIT University in Melbourne, and it features all the classic elements of an ALESTORM video: Magical Girl transformations, giant Hungarian men dropping turds on your garden, rubber ducks, and crudely drawn cartoon penises. Enjoy!”

Producer Aaron McLoughlin on the video:
“Yeah, the pandemic has been tough on everyone, but it’s going to take a helluva lot more than that to stop RMIT Animation students from drawing pirates. The video took 17 weeks to complete and lecturer Simon Norton did an awesome job producing and directing it under quarantine. Each team member worked from home to create the most epic swashbuckling pirate adventure you’re likely to see this year!”

The “Pirate Metal Drinking Crew” is back to show all the filthy landlubbers what they’re made of. ALESTORM’s sixth long-player, Curse of the Crystal Coconut, features eleven tracks presented in ALESTORM’s signature unadulterated, chaotic fashion. Adding to that are guest performances from musical greats like Ally Storch of SUBWAY TO SALLY (violin on the entire album) and Captain Yarrface of RUMAHOY!

A must-have, riff-laden anthem at any party, “Treasure Chest Party Quest” takes the listener onto a journey into the depths of the darkest taverns of “Tortuga” and Christopher Bowes’ unique sense of humor. The smashing, lively track “Chomp Chomp”, featuring vocals of Vreth of FINNTROLL, may make you never want to enter the open waters again, but will definitely entice you to dance along with its addictive melodies. “Pirate Metal Drinking Crew” is yet another foot-stomping anthem on the album that excels with a catchy rhythm and indelible hook. Be careful to not anger the great pirate Scurvy, or he might just unleash the Curse Of The Crystal Coconut with the brutal riffs of the “Pirate’s Scorn” upon you.

Whether the album makes you want to grab a fresh coconut and sip it or open up a nice bottle of beer – it will definitely lead to a wild piratical escapade. For the extra-adventurous pirates amongst you, ALESTORM have released a 2-CD Mediabook with ground-breaking 16th century interpretations of the songs. Be sure to get yours.
