EPICA Launch Music Video For Mystical New Single ‘Arcana’

Epica

Hidden wisdom, long-lost secrets, and esoteric knowledge—with ‘Arcana,‘ the frontrunners of symphonic metal, EPICA, herald a new chapter in their two-decade-long band history. This is the band’s first new release since their chart-topping album Omega and their collaboration EP The Alchemy Project. It offers a glimpse into the band’s future music, coming in 2025.

“Arcana guides you through the universal stages of spiritual evolution in life. It leads the way to a higher consciousness and spiritual self-awareness,” the band comments. “Writing this song was a spontaneous effort, so it came together quickly, which felt so natural that it wrote itself. The music contains classic Epica elements but has some vibes that might remind you of 80s alternative rock or modern metal.”

The single is now available on all streaming platforms. It also includes ‘The Ghost in Me‘, a special collaboration with the Netherlands’ most popular theme park, de ‘Efteling’.

The music video, directed by Remko Tielemans, is now premiering on YouTube:

The song has already made its live debut at the band’s monumental ‘Symphonic Synergy’ shows in Amsterdam this September, and fans in Latin America will have the chance to be the next to hear it live at two shows that EPICA will perform exclusively with a full orchestra and choir.

“The 67th annual Grammy Awards, set to take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, have unveiled a compelling lineup of nominees in the metal and rock categories. In the “Best Metal Performance” category, heavyweights Metallica, Judas Priest, Gojira, Knocked Loose, and Spiritbox are vying for the top spot. Metallica is nominated for “Screaming Suicide” from their 2023 album 72 Seasons, while Judas Priest is recognized for “Crown of Horns”. Gojira’s powerful performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira!)”, which gained widespread attention during the Olympics, is also in the running. Knocked Loose’s intense collaboration with Poppy on “Suffocate” and Spiritbox’s haunting “Cellar Door” round out the nominees.

In the “Best Rock Performance” category, a diverse range of artists is represented. The Beatles, with their historic track “Now and Then” featuring John Lennon’s original vocals enhanced by Artificial Intelligence, are nominated alongside contemporary rock acts. The Black Keys are up for “Beautiful People (Stay High)”, Green Day for “The American Dream Is Killing Me”, and Idles for “Gift Horse”. Pearl Jam’s “Dark Matter” and St. Vincent’s “Broken Man” also make the list, showcasing the breadth of talent in the rock genre.

These nominations highlight the evolving landscape of metal and rock music, with both veteran bands and newer acts receiving recognition. The final voting round, which will take place from December 12, 2024, to January 3, 2025, will determine the winners, as decided by the Recording Academy’s voting members. This year’s Grammys also introduce several updates, including new eligibility criteria and the “Harry Belafonte Best Song For Social Change Award”, reflecting the Academy’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation in the music industry.” (Perplexity)

“As I Lay Dying is facing a significant transformation in 2024, with the departure of key band members, including guitarist Ken Susi, bassist Ryan Neff, and drummer Nick Pierce. This exodus has left frontman Tim Lambesis and guitarist Phil Sgrosso as the only remaining members of the band. In response to this upheaval, Lambesis acknowledged the “toxic atmosphere” that contributed to the departures, revealing that he and Sgrosso no longer aligned on personal, creative, or financial matters. Despite these challenges, Lambesis expressed a commitment to moving forward with a new lineup for As I Lay Dying, indicating that the band plans to continue its musical journey. The band’s eighth studio album, titled Through Storms Ahead, is set to release on November 15, 2024, suggesting that while the lineup may change, their dedication to creating music remains strong. This situation highlights the complexities within the band and raises questions about its future direction as they navigate these internal conflicts and member changes.” (Perplexity)

“In a dramatic turn of events, the metalcore band As I Lay Dying has been hit by a significant exodus of members over the past week. Bassist and clean vocalist Ryan Neff was the first to announce his departure on October 19, 2024, citing personal and professional reasons after two years with the band. This was swiftly followed by the exit of tour manager Alex Kendrick on October 22. On October 24, guitarist Ken Susi and drummer Nick Pierce also revealed they were leaving the band, with both members expressing that their personal morals had been tested to a breaking point. Susi, formerly of Unearth, and Pierce emphasized their gratitude for the support they received but felt compelled to distance themselves from the band to maintain their personal health and integrity. These departures have led to the cancellation of As I Lay Dying’s European tour, leaving only frontman Tim Lambesis and guitarist Phil Sgrosso remaining in the band as they prepare for the release of their new album, Through Storms Ahead, on November 15.” (Perplexity)

JINJER Announces Highly-Anticipated Fifth Album, “Duél”

JINJER 2025

Modern progressive leaders JINJER have announced their powerful, long-awaited fifth studio album, Duél, set to be released on February 7, 2025 via Napalm Records! Technical grooves and heavy progressive passages, brutally clear vocals and skillful growls by matchless vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk have garnered the Ukrainian outfit millions of cross-platform streams and views worldwide, as well as revered renown with fans and critics alike. JINJER have traversed glorious paths of tireless touring and extremely successful album releases, including their most recent chart-topping studio album, 2021’s WallflowersDuél showcases the band at the very top of their game and marks yet another matchless milestone in the world of modern metal!

After releasing their breathtaking single and video “Someone’s Daughter”, followed by the heavy-hitting single “Rogue” earlier this year, JINJER now unleash another untamed beast with their new track “Kafka”. Dominated by Tatiana’s remarkably clear vocals, “Kafka” is a heavy and slow tamper, digging deep under one’s skin just to break right through with venomous growls in the end.

Tatiana Shmayluk on “Kafka”:
“Being an artist is sometimes beautiful but most of the time it’s brutal… as our art is dissected word for word and ripped apart note by note, we‘re expected to be on point all-the-time … and when we aren’t, we are scandalized. A true artist is vulnerable but the crowd is most often plagued with vultures who pick at every single move you make. It’s a slippery slope when music means the world to us but how quickly praise turns into prosecution… We are all Kings and Queens for a day but most of the time it feels like a Kafka novel for a lifetime. It‘s exciting but surreal and absurd at the same time …”

While JINJER’s previous album, Wallflowers, was slightly more alluring and contained noticeably more clean vocals, Duél now takes on a much more aggressive tone. This is proven by songs like “Rogue”“Green Serpent” and “Dark Bile”, with their brutal and hefty breakdowns. Fans of super-talented vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk’s clear vocals also get their moments, as tracks such as the opener “Tantrum” show the potential of the frontwoman’s outstanding vocal prowess. Duél presents itself way more cruelly – and JINJER are more vicious than ever before. “Fast Draw” is a wild death metal beast with grooving drums from Vlad Ulasevich, Roman Ibramkhalilov’s one-of-a-kind riffs and Eugene Abdukhanov’s trademark bass wizardry – showing what this band does best: brilliant state-of the-art modern metal.

On DuélJINJER continue their long-lasting collaboration with accomplished producer Max Morton, who co-produced, mixed and mastered the album. This new masterwork lives up to JINJER’s reputation as metal visionaries, once more showing that the band refuses to follow any set rules in their genre, but choose their own path of creativity.

Eugene Abdukhanov, JINJER bassist on the new album:
“First of all, it‘s hard to believe that we’re about to release our fifth full length album! After all the releases we’ve made, finally having Duél in our hands and ready to be shared with the world, makes us very proud that our band still hasn’t run out of creativity and inspiration. The fact that we still challenge ourselves to release the best music we have ever made with each new release, is what keeps JINJER moving forward. This upcoming album was the longest songwriting process we’ve ever had and it took almost two years to complete. We worked very hard with every free minute we weren’t on tour, recording demos over and over again and always searching for the perfect sound for guitars, bass and drums. It was also the first time that Tatiana did vocal pre-productions, so it’s safe to say that none of our releases were so well thought out and calculated as this one. It pulverizes the boundaries of the modern progressive metal genre but still remains sophisticated, exciting and extreme all at the same time. We took up the challenge to expand our musical horizons even wider than before in order to cement Duél to be the next step in JINJER‘s musical growth and hopefully the evolution of metal music in general.”

The band’s latest album Atonement is out now via Metal Blade Records.

In other KsE news, the band has teamed up with Revolver for a special collector’s edition deluxe magazine that is “must own” for fans!

Revolver celebrates Killswitch Engage’s 25th anniversary with this issue. In new, exclusive interviews, the band members tell the story of Killswitch Engage in their own words — from the group’s humble beginnings to the dramatic lineup changes to their rise to the top of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement.

This 100-page deluxe magazine is thicker than a standard issue of Revolver, without any ads, features embossed type, and UV coating on its covers, as well as rare, all-access photography throughout.

The Killswitch Engage special collector’s issue comes with two alternate, collectible covers — a band cover with photography by Travis Shinn and an illustrated cover by the group’s own bassist and resident visual artist Mike D’Antonio.

All of the below items will be available as a bundle or a la carte and all items are exclusive in honor of the band’s impressive 25-year history.

*2 special collector’s edition covers
*New vinyl re-pressings of: Alive or Just Breathing, The End of Heartache, As Daylight Dies, Incarnate, Atonement (each limited to 1K or less; wax colors to come)
