Stick To Your Guns sign to SharpTone, release “Invisible Rain” EP

Out of nowhere, legendary melodic hardcore group Stick To Your Guns have signed to a new label, SharpTone Records, and released a new two-song EP, “Invisible Rain”.

The two-song EP from Stick To Your Guns marks a new era for the long-standing band. For one that’s been around for more than two decades, it’s enthralling to hear such a polished, modern sound that’s no fluff and all headbanging. Five minutes of ferocity is on display, as impassioned and eclectic as ever from the five-piece. Segued by a quote from Jiddu Krishnamurti, “One is never afraid of the unknownone is afraid of the known coming to an end“, think piece lyricism complements the band’s ever-present message of hope through adversity.

Coming on to SharpTone Records is a no-brainer in the 2020s – the label, home to other greats such as August Burns Red, Story of the Year, and Bleeding Through, has kept a keen eye on the more weathered bands staying strong, and Stick To Your Guns fits that description like a glove. A considerably consistent group, it’s hard to pick a weak record in their discography – from 2010’s The Hope Division to 2022’s Spectre, this is a damn-impressive band that has stayed true to their roots whilst evolving their sound over the years.

Stick To Your Guns has kept busy in the 2020s with no signs of slowing down. They headlined the Pure Noise Records tour and also had a headliner for their Spectre record in 2022, in addition to recent international shows. I’m also a big fan of frontman Jesse Barnett’s other project, Trade Wind, who had a solid offering in 2021’s “The Day We Got What We Deserved”. There’s no shortage of talent in STYG, and it looks like they have a lot left in the tank. With this new signing and release, here’s hoping we get even more from this excellent band.

Sanguisugabogg Share “Permanently F**ked” Video

SANGUISUGABOGG

Ohio’s notorious, boundary-pushing, and bloodsucking death metal outfit Sanguisugabogg — Cody Davidson, drums; Drew Arnold, guitars/bass; Devin Swank, vocals; and Ced Davis, guitars/bass — have shared the video for the brand new and gloriously irreverent single “Permanently Fucked.” The video finds the band in performance mode… with some bloody imagery woven throughout.

“The meaning of the song is a drastically blown out of proportion way of showing how much you love someone,” the band states. “We got inspiration of the song from the 2018 horror film Pet where Dominic Monaghan’s character volunteers himself as a vice for Ksenia Solo’s character so she can torture and humiliate them and they’re bound to their cage so she doesn’t free the urge to murder someone instinctively and doesn’t get arrested or imprisoned for killing people.”

This is the first taste of new music since last year’s 2023’s Homicidal Ecstasy. That album followed 2021’s Tortured Whole. The band continues to slice up uncompromising, in-your-face, and not-for-the-weak death metal that siphons inspiration from early to mid-’90s and early ’00s death metal and brutal death metal/grindcore presented in their own style with a unique twist that pleases every style of metal maniac.

In other Dayseeker news, the band’s acoustic album Replica arrives physically on June 14 via Spinefarm. Pre-order it here.

The stripped down, intimate renditions of familiar fan favorites highlight the band’s songcraft and allow the listener to experience Dayseeker in an entirely new way. The collection also includes appearances from Holding Absence’s Lucas Woodland and indie artist Amber DeLaRosa.

Replica is the somewhat unexpected (yet welcomed) result of a specific gig in 2022, when the band’s gear overheated at Blue Ridge Rock Festival. Thinking on his feet, Rodriguez grabbed an acoustic guitar from the van, plugged in, and performed “Without Me.” Soon, he had pulled together a five-song set on the fly as thousands of fans flocked to the stage.

“I felt like we let people down, but I had so many friends say, ‘Everyone will remember the day your equipment stopped working and you still played the set as a really special moment’,'” he recalls. “It felt natural for our songs. We usually will do extra tracks for a Deluxe version or re-release, but we decided to commit to an entire acoustic album this time.”

Bring Me The Horizon – Post Human: NeX GEn | Album Review

The surprise full album and next in the Post Human series that proves Bring Me The Horizon can evolve in several directions and make it work. The delay was long but appears to have been worth it. The collaborations, singles, and deep cuts all feel like they belong on the album. Outside of short OST sequences, NeX GEn flows smoothly. Tracks like “YOUtopia”, “liMOusIne”, and “LosT” hit hard and bolster the variety and genre-bending shapes that Bring Me The Horizon has developed. This is described as an emo album but it also is reminiscent of 90’s alternative with remnants of The Smashing Pumpkins and Deftones. The riffs and hooks hit hard. Oli Sykes is in his groove at delivering loud and smooth choruses. Even if I don’t adore every moment, the encompassing project swells with creativity and replay value. This band promised more of an emo sounding record, and with some extra elements thrown in, Bring Me The Horizon delivered something unique. 8/10

Standout tracks like “YOUtopia,” “Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd,” and the Lil Uzi Vert-featured “AmEN!” have garnered widespread acclaim for their infectious melodies, intricate guitar work, and Oli Sykes’ dynamic vocal delivery. I’m Afraid of Americans” is a song by the English musician David Bowie, released as a single from his album Earthling on 14 October 1997 through Virgin Records.  The maxi-single release contained six different remixes mostly created by Trent Reznor and his Nine Inch Nails band members; the V3 mix featured Ice Cube while the V5 mix was created by Photek. Reznor subsequently appeared in the music video, which reflected the song’s theme of a frightened European in an American city. The single was Bowie’s final single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 until 2015, reaching number 66.

Numb/Encore” is a song by American rapper Jay-Z and rock band Linkin Park from their EP Collision Course (2004).

Have a Cigar” is the third track on Pink Floyd‘s 1975 album Wish You Were Here. It follows “Welcome to the Machine” and on the original LP opened side two.

Paradise (What About Us?)” is a single and studio EP by Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation from their sixth studio album Hydra. The song features former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen.

V.A.N” (an acronym for “Violence Against Nature”) is a song by American band Bad Omens and American singer-songwriter Poppy.
