Avatar – Hunter Gatherer | Album Review

A video album review on Hunter Gatherer, the eighth studio album from Sweden’s Avatar.  After the legend of Avatar Country, this album is a return to form for Avatar’s heavier and chaotic sound.

Album Review

Avatar is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in Gothenburg, in 2001.  The band has had some success on US rock radio as well, notably with their song “New Land“, which peaked at number 20 on the BillboardMainstream Rock Songs chart in May 2017. Hunter Gatherer is the eighth studio album by Swedish metal band Avatar, to be released on August 7, 2020.

From Avatar’s Hunter Gatherer press release:
“Hunter Gatherer (2020) shares the determined focus of the conceptually driven Feathers & Flesh and Avatar Country while decisively emphasizing the individual songs above any overarching story. At the same time, there are thematic threads throughout the album, reflecting the members’ shared state of mind. Hunter Gatherer is the darkest, most sinister version of Avatar, with deep studies of cruelty, technology, disdain, and deprivation.”

SEVENDUST Announce Lucky Album #13 ‘BLOOD & STONE’

On the heels of the current single “The Day I Tried To Live” moving up the radio charts, heavy metal legends Sevendust are announcing their 13th studio album Blood & Stone. The new album is scheduled for release on October 23rd via Rise Records (the second for the band on the label). The latest release also marks a return for the band with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette, known for his work with Alter Bridge; Tremonti; Slash; and others.

Blood & Stone is available for pre-order in various configurations at https://RiseRecords.lnk.to/BloodAndStone

From the pulsating intro of album opener “Dying To Live” to the now popular album closer “The Day I Tried To Live,” Sevendust continue to push the sound they have made their own for more than 25 years. Tracks like “Love,” “Blood From A Stone,” “Kill Me” and “Against The World” showcases why the band has been adored by fans and critics alike. Lajon Witherspoon, Clint Lowery, John Connolly, Vince Hornsby and Morgan Rose have raised the bar with Blood & Stone. The new music fits perfectly alongside with the bands most seminal tracks that have become the cornerstone of the band’s live performances.

Recently, Sevendust impacted rock radio and unveiled a lyric video for their cover of the Soundgarden classic “The Day I Tried To Live.” The song is currently moving up the charts and the reaction to the track has been overwhelmingly favorable to the unique interpretation the band put on the classic track. The lyric video for the song was created by Wayne Joyner (known for his work with Dream Theater). It features a lone figure walking down a road thinking about his life with clips of the band woven throughout.

The video can be seen here:

In 1994, Sevendust first forged a familial tie amongst each other that translated into one of the most diehard audiences in the game. To this day, the connection between fans and the GRAMMY® Award-nominated gold-certified hard rock outfit only grows stronger. A trifecta of now-classic gold albums—Sevendust [1997], Home [1999], and Animosity [2001]— ignited their journey. Known as an equally intense and unforgettable live force, they’ve consistently packed houses around the world and decimated stages everywhere from Rock on the Range and Woodstock to OZZfest and Shiprocked! 2015’s Kill The Flaw represented a high watermark. Bowing at #13 on the Billboard Top 200, it scored their highest debut on the respective chart since 2010 and marked their fifth consecutive Top 10 on the Top Rock Albums Chart and third straight Top 3 on the Hard Rock Albums Chart. Most impressively, the lead single “Thank You” garnered a nomination in the category of “Best Metal Performance” at the 2016 GRAMMY® Awards, a career first. All I See Is War continued the band’s success debuting at #28 on the Billboard 200 and has become a favorite among critics and fans alike thanks to singles like “Dirty,” “Medicated” and “Risen.”

Halestorm Announce “Reimagined” EP

Grammy Award-winning rock band HALESTORM have announced their new Reimagined EP, set to arrive as a webstore exclusive and at all streaming services on August 14, 2020. Pre-orders are live here.

For the new EP, the group re-envisioned and reconstructed various fan favorites from their multi-platinum catalog.

To introduce the project, Halestorm have shared the first single “Break In,” featuring Evanescence’s Amy Lee. “Break In” originally appeared on the band’s gold-selling 2012 album, The Strange Case Of… During the Carnival of Madness Tour, the Evanescence frontwoman joined the group for a stunning live rendition of the tune on a nightly basis. Recently, Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale hosted Lee on her We Are Hear interview series Raise Your Horns With Lzzy Hale. Together, they teamed up for a powerful performance of “Break In”online, inviting anticipation for the official duet. Over stark and shuddering piano, their voices reach soaring heights on this poignant ballad, uniting two of rock’s most recognizable voices.

Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale commented on the new EP and collaboration, saying, “Over the last decade, we’ve been putting out cover EPs in between every original album cycle just for fun…But this time around we decided to shake it up! For our Reimagined EP, we committed to only one cover but filled the rest with reimagined versions of Halestorm songs. It was such a blast to remake some of our favorite originals.  One of the standout moments on this EP is a duet of our song ‘Break In’ featuring the amazingly incomparable Amy Lee. Produced by Nick Rasculinecz, we recorded this duet pre-COVID-19, together in the same room, live, as a full performance from beginning to end. Amy brought new meaning to this song, turning what was once just a love song into a statement of unity and support for each other. I hope you find something in Reimagined that brings you joy and hope in these crazy times we live in!”

In addition to “Break In,” Halestorm have reinvented their 2009 single “I Get Off” and the incendiary track “I Am The Fire.” They also cut an official cover of Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You,”another long-requested live gem.

Halestorm also recently launched the #ROADIESTRONG support campaign aimed at providing essential financial assistance to road crews all over the world who make live music possible. Fans can purchase #ROADIESTRONG merchandise and make donations, with all proceeds going to Live Nation’s Crew Nation — a global relief fund for live music crews.

The Sword Release ‘Children Of The Revolution’

Texan riff masters The Sword have unveiled “Winter’s Wolves“, the second installment of their 3-song Conquest Of Quarantine lockdown session.

Bassist Bryan Richie adds, “Envision large plumes of cannabis smoke or get DIY on it and create your own as you listen to this quarantine rendition of our classic track Winter’s Wolves. It was just as fun and lively as the original version we cranked out in my bedroom some 15 years ago now! Hope y’all enjoy!”

The lockdown session marks The Sword‘s first live performance together since the band went on hiatus in 2018. The first track shared, which premiered last week with Consequence Of Sound, showed the band putting their own inimitable spin on the T-Rex classic, “Children of the Revolution“. Watch that here and stay tuned for the final installment soon.

The Sword’s triumphant live return from hiatus was scheduled to be with Primus this summer as part of their mammoth A Tribute To KingsUS trek. But the pandemic had other plans. Not wishing to deprive fans of the live performances they’ve been waiting so long to see, The Sword got creative and so was birthed the Conquest Of Quarantine lockdown session.

Explains bassist Bryan Richie, “It was a lot of fun getting together with Kyle and Jimmy to record these tracks, and thanks to the miracles of modern technology we were able to lay down a wicked session with JD all the way from North Carolina. Crank this from the comforts of your couch, Conquest of Quarantine brought to you with minimal overdubs and maximum rocking.”

“Children Of the Revolution” and “Winter’s Wolves” will be followed by one final clip, released next week, so be sure to keep it locked to their socials or subscribe at YouTube so you don’t miss the full epic session.

Marilyn Manson Returns With New Album “We Are Chaos”

Marilyn Manson announces the release of his eleventh studio album WE ARE CHAOS out September 11 via Loma Vista Recordings. Co-produced by Manson and GRAMMY® Award winner Shooter Jennings [Brandi Carlile, Tanya Tucker], the ten-track opus was written, recorded, and finished before a pandemic blanketed us all. Manson heralds the record’s arrival with the title track and lead single “WE ARE CHAOS,” released today. The accompanying video is directed, photographed and edited by Matt Mahurin.

Manson’s painting, Infinite Darkness, which can be seen on the album cover, was specifically created to accompany the music. His fine art paintings continue to be shown all over the world, including gallery and museum exhibitions from Miami to Vienna to Moscow.

Manson says of the album, “When I listen to WE ARE CHAOS now, it seems like just yesterday or as if the world repeated itself, as it always does, making the title track and the stories seem as if we wrote them today.  This was recorded to its completion without anyone hearing it until it was finished. There is most definitely a side A and side B in the traditional sense. But just like an LP, it is a flat circle and it’s up to the listener to put the last piece of the puzzle into the picture of songs.

“This concept album is the mirror Shooter and I built for the listener – it’s the one we won’t stare into. There are so many rooms, closets, safes and drawers. But in the soul or your museum of memories, the worst are always the mirrors. Shards and slivers of ghosts haunted my hands when I wrote most of these lyrics.

“Making this record, I had to think to myself: ‘Tame your crazy, stitch your suit. And try to pretend that you are not an animal’but I knew that mankind is the worst of them all. Making mercy is like making murder. Tears are the human body’s largest export.”

WE ARE CHAOS – Tracklist:
1. RED BLACK AND BLUE
2. WE ARE CHAOS
3. DON’T CHASE THE DEAD
4. PAINT YOU WITH MY LOVE
5. HALF-WAY & ONE STEP FORWARD
6. INFINITE DARKNESS
7. PERFUME
8. KEEP MY HEAD TOGETHER
9. SOLVE COAGULA
10. BROKEN NEEDLE
