Stabbing Westward Drops Surprise Covers EP Hallowed Hymns

Halloween may look different this year, but Stabbing Westward is intent on making it feel special by releasing a brand-new covers EP today as a special “treat” for fans.

Hallowed Hymns, released on COP International Records, features 4 tracks that were instrumental to the industrial band’s beginnings and conjure the feeling of the season. It includes original takes on “Burn” from The Cure (famously featured on the soundtrack to The Crow), the classic “(Every Day Is) Halloween” by Ministry and Echo And The Bunnymen’s eternal hit “The Killing Moon.” There is also a special “Devil’s Night Mix” version of Stabbing Westward’s “Burn” cover to round out the surprise release.

Digital and physical copies are on sale now HERE.

Stabbing Westward— featuring original founding members Christopher Hall (vocals/guitar) and Walter Flakus (keyboards/programming) as well as longtime bandmate Carlton Bost (bass) and newest member Bobby Amaro (drums)—originally released their cover of “Burn” to much fanfare for the Cold Waves Festival compilation album in September; the track was premiered by Revolver magazine that called it a “reverent cover” that kicked off the compilation “with a bang.” Read more about it HERE.

Says frontman Christopher Hall about this special surprise release:
“2020 has been a shit year. We were supposed to release our new album and tour the U.S. to support it. But clearly that’s not happening. We know Halloween is different this year with no parties and no Trick or Treating so we wanted to give fans something special …. something that will help tie you over until we can release some new music.

We picked these three tracks because, for us, they represent the feeling of Halloween and they were very important songs during our early musical stages. If there were ever two bands that I would say most influenced Walter and I to form Stabbing Westward it would be Ministry and The Cure. From the earliest days of Ministry’s With Sympathy through the evolution of Twitch, they were the band that opened our minds and hearts to industrial music. To be able to reimagine these songs as Stabbing Westward while still trying to pay homage to the brilliance of the original versions was a terrifyingly fun adventure.

We have been working on the album so hard for so long that it was really a joy to take a break and explore all these tracks had to offer. As often as you listen to your favorite songs it’s a totally different experience to take one apart and see how it was built. It gave me such an immense appreciation for what these amazing artists created—especially the Ministry track knowing how primitive the gear was that Al Jourgensen had to work with back then with none of the modern tools we take for granted today. He literally created new techniques in the studio that we still use today. He was light years ahead of his time. We hope you enjoy listening to these tracks as much as we have enjoyed recording them.”

Stabbing Westward recently reunited for the first time in decades, releasing the Dead And Gone EP with new material in January 2020 and announcing a new record deal with indie label COP International to release the band’s upcoming fifth studio album Wasteland—their first new LP in 20 years—set for 2021.

The EP’s title coyly illustrates that Stabbing Westward is in fact neither dead nor gone, but rather ready to pick up where they left off after a string of mid-‘90s hits that dominated alternative radio and film soundtracks, including “Shame,” “Save Yourself,” “So Far Away” and “What Do I Have to Do?”, and resulted in two Gold records.

To recapture that early chemistry, the band has again recruited their original producer, the legendary John Fryer for the upcoming Wasteland release. It will be the first LP from the band since 2001. Fryer, whose production credits include Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, 4AD, Cocteau Twins and Love and Rockets, was behind the boards on Stabbing Westward’s seminal early albums Ungod (1994) and Wither Blister Burn + Peel (1996).

More information will be released soon regarding Wasteland and a new single from the album, as well as other developments Stabbing Westward has in store for 2021 and beyond.

Cane Hill Return With New Video For “Power of the High”

New Orleans band CANE HILL return with the brand new song and video “Power of the High.”

The song debuted at SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal and the video premiered over at Revolver. Watch it here.

“‘Power of the High’ is inconsolable fury and anguish. An accumulation of the woes, trails, and tribulations of our recent years from mind-altering aficionados to unwilling servants drowning in the unforgiving tides of the music industry, we’ve found ourselves passionately emboldened by the rage fostered whilst stuck between our realities. A declaration of third-eye-rebellion, ‘POTH’ is a calling to everyone we know and may meet to join us in breaking the mold that’s been given to you by a higher power and realize the divine being you always have been.”

Regarding the music video, singer Elijah Witt told Revolver, “We dove back into our horror roots by joining forces with the local production company, Dreamseeker, to create a psychedelic twist on Louisiana folklore such as The Rougarou. ‘Power of the High’ kicks off Krewe De La Morte, which is Volume 1 of larger vision. Join us, live with us, die with us. Welcome to The Krewe.”

Stay tuned for more from Cane Hill.

“Teardrops”

For what it’s worth, I hope this focus from Bring Me The Horizon continues on the next few EPs. I know the band said each EP would sound different, but so long as the creativity is matched and it’s as inspired as Survival Horror, I’m happy.

HIT PARADER is proud to announce their all-star judges for NO COVER, their first-ever music competition TV show.ALICE COOPER, BISHOP BRIGGS, GAVIN ROSSDALE, LZZY HALE and TOSIN ABASI have been selected as the judges to help find the world’s next greatest unsigned original artist.

While most music competition shows such as American Idol and The Voice encourage musicians to cover other people’s songs, NO COVER will spotlight artists and bands that write and record their own original music. At the end of season one, winning artist(s) will secure a six-figure recording contract with SUMERIAN RECORDS, booking agency representation from UTA, management from the SHELTER MUSIC GROUP, high-profile festival slot(s) via DANNY WIMMER PRESENTS, studio time at NIGHTBIRD RECORDING STUDIOS, new gear from GIBSON, brand endorsements, licensing opportunities and more.

The entire first season will be shot at the legendary TROUBADOUR in West Hollywood, CA. Since 1957, the Troubadour has been at the forefront of musical discovery. From the early years of BOB DYLAN, NEIL YOUNG, JONI MITCHELL and THE EAGLES to the U.S. debut of ELTON JOHN, the Los Angeles headline debut of METALLICA and the debut of the Appetite For Destruction line-up of GUNS N’ ROSES.
Additionally, NO COVER will be filming on location at the fabled SUNSET MARQUIS HOTEL in West Hollywood, CA. This exclusive sanctuary in the heart of the Sunset Strip, is a home-away-from-home for generations of entertainers, creators and innovators, movers and magic-makers. The Sunset Marquis Hotel is also home to the famed NIGHTBIRD RECORDING STUDIOS, BAR 1200 and CAVATINA RESTAURANT

Unsigned bands and solo artists all over the globe are encouraged to enter for a chance to perform live on NO COVER by simply filling out an application at https://www.nocovershow.com/apply. Entries are open to the general public and musicians will submit their original songs, photos and videos for the show’s producers to select from. Once bands are selected, our celebrity judges will grade these artists on three key factors: originality, presence and songcraft.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer ALICE COOPER is widely known as the original “shock rocker” with a wildly successful career in music spanning six incredible decades. His hit songs “School’s Out,” “No More Mister Nice Guy” and “Poison” are staples of rock radio and his iconic appearances in movies like Wayne’s World and Dark Shadows have endeared him to multiple generations of fans.

“I can’t wait for No Cover.” said ALICE COOPER.  “To me, a band really isn’t a band unless they are writing their own material, and if you know anything about me you know that I have a very high standard for not only the songs but also the performance. I’m looking for the band who has it all – the one who can not only write it and play it, but perform it and make me BELIEVE it.”

Alt Pop powerhouse BISHOP BRIGGS has positioned herself to empower. With the platinum-certified, viral hit “River,” over 3.2 billion streams worldwide, and opening for COLDPLAY under her belt, BISHOP is showing no intentions of slowing down.
“I am beyond excited to be a judge on NO COVER! Songwriting is such a therapeutic outlet for me to express myself so I cannot wait to dig deep and learn more about each person who gets on that stage.” added BISHOP BRIGGS

As the lead vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and founder of iconic multi-platinum rock band BUSHGAVIN ROSSDALE has sold over to 20 million records in the U.S. and Canada alone. BUSH has compiled an amazing string of 23 consecutive Top 40 hit singles on the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts. Eleven of those hit the Top 5, six of which shot to No. 1: “Comedown,” “Glycerine,” “Machinehead,” “Swallowed,” “The Chemicals Between Us” and “The Sound of Winter.” BUSH recently released its eighth studio album, The Kingdom.
“I’m thrilled to be part of NO COVER – what a talented panel of artists to be collaborating with.” said GAVIN ROSSDALE. “We’ve seen the shows singing the hits -finally the chance to find a real band with their own sound and their own vision.I hope we catapult some great artistsinto the spotlight.”

Grammy Award-winning singer/guitarist LZZY HALE brings a strong, powerful perspective to NO COVER as she’s been fronting the band HALESTORM with her younger brother, Arejay for over 20 years. Lzzy is a leader amongst her peers and fearless voice for her legions of young fans. Star of many music magazine cover stories, she has won multiple industry awards such as the Golden Gods and was recently named Loudwire’s “Artist of the Decade.” Lzzy also has her own Gibson artist series guitar, the Lzzy Hale Explorer.

“I’m beyond excited to join my friends, peers and fellow rockers as a judge for Hit Parader’s music competition TV show “NO COVER”. I hope that my passion and experience will help to inspire and encourage these young bands to carve out their own path in this world.“ said Lzzy Hale.

Visionary guitarist, TOSIN ABASI is best known from the prog-metal band ANIMALS AS LEADERS and as part owner of the custom guitar company Abasi Concepts. Tosin was recently named “Guitarist of the Decade” by Guitar World Magazine and is coming off his first big role in the new film BILL & TED: FACE THE MUSIC.

“I’m really looking forward to being on this incredible panel of judges. It’s the first time I’ve seen a show like this that actually connects with the music I’m into. This is going to be rad!” said Tosin Abasi
NO COVER will be co-hosted by singer KELLIN QUINN (Sleeping with Sirens, Paradise City) and radio personality CAITY BABS (SiriusXM’s Octane) with behind the scenes interviews conducted by music industry veteran MATT PINFIELD (MTV, Vh1)

“I’m pumped for the opportunity to co-host NO COVER! I’m excited to join the artists on their journey!” Said KELLIN QUINN “I’ve seen first-hand the amount of gifted musicians that are just waiting to be discovered! I’m ready for the rest of the world to share that experience! Get ready!”

Dead Posey Release Official Music Video

‘Malfunction’ EP Available Now
via Sumerian Records/Position Music
Order and Listen Here

Los Angeles-based rock duo Dead Posey have released the official music video for their chilling single, “Head Of The Snake“, the second release from their latest EP ‘Malfunction’ released via Sumerian Records/Position Music in June 2020. The music video for “Head Of The Snake” is a brooding, thrilling ride through a David Lynchian frenzy in this psychological horror-tinged visual accompaniment. Watch the video here or by clicking the image below.

Speaking to the “Head Of The Snake” video, Dead Posey shares:
“We started thinking about a “Head of the Snake” video during the initial heavy days of Covid-19 quarantine, and quickly realized we were gonna need something that we didn’t have to physically shoot. That’s where the idea of doing an animated video came from. We worked with the very talented animator/illustrator Tony Celano at Sumerian Records to put this together. We wanted to show DP in a warped 50’s horror B-movie, with some surrealist Lynchian twists thrown in. The song is about throwing off the shackles imposed by long-standing oppressive institutions and belief systems; we wanted the imagery to give that impression in an abstract way…while also throwing a couple direct gut punches to the system.”
