Produced by longtime collaborator Chris Funk (Murder The Mountains, Whales and Leeches), the 13-song album was recorded in December of 2019but as vocalist/bass player Aaron Beam understatedly said upon news of its forthcoming release: “something happened that is not worth discussing.” The collection, which looks to be one of the band’s most critically-revered releases, has born a pair of the year’s most memorable videos, from the Katana-gone-wrong clip for “Arrows” to the sad saga of Artie Von Party via the “Why” video.

CHVRCHES have today announced their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Screen Violence, due out August 27th on Glassnote Records. The band has also shared today the second single from the forthcoming record, titled “How Not To Drown,” featuring one of the trio’s ultimate heroes, Robert Smith. The Cure frontman’s signature voice melds perfectly with Mayberry’s, both supported by the dark, piano driven song that is based on the concept of staying conscious when you drown.
CHVRCHES is featured on New Music Daily on Apple Music, with Zane Lowe today inviting the band on his Apple show for their first ever interview with Smith.
Recorded almost entirely remotely between Los Angeles and Glasgow, members Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty and Iain Cook self-produced and mixed the album via video calls and audio sharing programs to create something that is unique and special, but inherently CHVRCHES.
Screen Violence was originally conceived as a name for the band. A decade later, and during a pandemic when the reality of screen violence has never been more pertinent, struggling to make the people you love feel more than the characters on a TV show, and experiencing a world of trauma as if it were another, CHVRCHES revived the term for their forthcoming album title. Narrating the theme of screen violence in three main forms – on screen, by screens and through screens – the album touches on feelings of loneliness, disillusionment, fear, heartbreak and regret.
“I think for me it was helpful to go into the process with the idea that I could write something escapist almost,” Mayberry says of the album. “That felt freeing initially, to have concepts and stories to weave your own feelings and experiences through but in the end, all the lyrics were definitely still personal.” While Martin Doherty adds, “To me, the screen aspect was a bit more literal. When we were making the record, it was like half of our lives were lived through screens. What began as a concept was now a lifeline.”
The making of Screen Violence also marked a decade together for the band – a decade whose sound they have helped to create and define from their 2013 breakthrough The Bones of What You Believe and 2015’s Every Open Eye, to their most recent 2018’s Love is Dead.
“How Not To Drown” follows the release of “He Said She Said,” a song Vulture called “A predictably huge song…And the hook is a fitting moment of pandemic catharsis.” The single is fast rising on the US Alternative charts, and debuted #1 on the NACC Singles Chart and went #3 on the Submodern Chart. The single is accompanied by an official video directed by multi-disciplinary artist Scott Kiernan.
Eager to get back out on the road where the band and their impressive stage production can truly connect with their fans, CHVRCHES are excited to announce an extensive North American tour beginning this November. The dates will kick off at Houston’s White Oak Music Hall on November 9th, followed by three nights at ACL Live in Austin, two nights at NYC’s Terminal 5 and finishing up on December 17th at The Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Radically evolving themselves by combining crossover genres with rock and metal, it has become clear that WITHIN TEMPTATION have never been bound by frontiers.
The band now takes it one step further by announcing the details of an immersive show that is out of this world — literally!
Welcome to Within Temptation: The Aftermath — A Show In A Virtual Reality.
Sharon den Adel says, “During the whole pandemic, we weren’t keen on doing a livestream. The magic of seeing and hearing a band perform live — combined with the energy of the crowd — is something you cannot simply recreate with a livestream. So, for a long time, we were clueless. One thing we knew for sure: We would not compromise on a livestream if we could offer something out of the ordinary, something jawdropping, intriguing, spectacular, and mythical!”
She continues, “Then we found it: A world that we could shape into our wildest fantasies and in which we, as a band, could perform while still maintaining the dynamics and magic of our traditional live show. We are absolutely thrilled to invite you to Within Temptation: The Aftermath – A Show In A Virtual Reality. A show that takes place in different scenes of a post-apocalyptic world, in which we are witness of the aftermath of destruction of mankind. A world in which it is unknown if anyone or anything of the human race survived. It is a search for answers about both its becoming as well as its legacy.”
The Aftermath is a show fueled by bleeding-edge technology that enables the band to do a performance that’s out of this world. In this one-hour show, Within Temptation will play a variety of newer and older songs in four different worlds that interact with both the band and the music. Expect guest singers from all over the world to join the band on stage for striking duets in even more striking settings.
With this show, Within Temptation build a bridge between the now and the next time the band will be able to play again.
The band says, “We are absolutely gutted that the Worlds Collide Tour has been pushed back again and we cannot perform live in the same venue as our fans. With this digital show, we hope that the fans can still feel our energy, our love for — and above all — our passion for music. Take care and we hope to see you on July 8 or July 9.”
WITHIN TEMPTATION — A BRAND NEW SINGLE: “SHED MY SKIN”:
Along with the immersive event, Within Temptation announce the release of a brand new single “Shed My Skin,” out on June 25 — two weeks before the show. For this song, the band has teamed up with German metalcore band Annisokay. This collaboration has resulted in a heartfelt, bombastic metal anthem.
“Shed My Skin” is the third single of the series of Within Temptation’s independent releases and will be out via all streaming services on June 25, 2021. The official music video of this song will premiere during Within Temptation: The Aftermath – A Show In A Virtual Reality on July 8 + July 9.

The wait is finally over! The hottest new band in heavy music, Canadian metal outfit Spiritbox, have today announced the long-awaited release of their debut album, ‘Eternal Blue’. The album will drop on Friday, September 17th, 2021 with pre-orders available now by clicking here.
The band have also released a brand new single titled “Secret Garden” today. Find the track on streaming platforms here.
Speaking on the announcement of their debut album, Spiritbox vocalist, Courtney LaPlante shares
“We are very anxious to release our album, it is a body of work we have been accumulating for over two years. Having the recording process put on hold for so long due to the pandemic has made me see that I can never take the experience of tracking an album for granted ever again.
I must say that although we never intended to wait so long to do this record, I think it did help the songs become stronger. I am so happy with every single song, I wish I could release each one as a single with a music video. They all reflect different moments and influences in our lives.
We have had enough time to release the exact music we would like to put out into the world, with no need to compromise. Every single note and every single syllable is the music that we have always dreamed of making and we are very proud of it.”
Speaking on the release of new track, “Secret Garden” she adds
“I think this is the most scared I’ve been to put out a song, because I realize as we continue to release music in single format, listeners can start to assume what kind of band we are, and are alarmed when we do not meet those assumptions. I want to continue to showcase the fluidity that is inherent in heavy music, and Even though this is just one part of a full body of work that may not sound exactly like this song, it is a song that we love and are obsessed with. I celebrate variation. ‘Secret Garden’ is exciting to me, for this reason. I’m scared but excited, like I’m about to hit the big drop on a roller coaster, and I’m fully embracing that.”
Today’s announcement comes hot on the heels of the band’s previous single release at the end of May for track “Circle With Me” which charted on Billboard at #1 Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, #5 Hot Hard Rock Songs, #9 Rock Songs Core Genre, #12 Rock Digital Songs, #50 Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, #71 Digital Songs. The track has already clocked up 4.3 million streams to date.
Prior to “Circle With Me” the band released two break-out, hit singles last year – the heartbreaking and otherworldly “Constance” and the unrelentingly brutal “Holy Roller” which debuted at #25 on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs and charted as the #1 song of 2020 on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal.
The band released Constance Reimagined this past weekend, in conjunction with The Grammy Museum COLLECTION:live #spotlightsaturdays in partnership with BMG. The band performed an incredible acoustic rendition of the song featuring a string quartet and filmed in a church. Watch the full performance here.

Named after a device some believe is capable of communicating with the dead, there’s a sense of the paranormal running through all that Spiritbox do, but this is a group of artists who are very much brimming with life and creating something remarkable with their music.
Characterized by fierce intensity, unwavering emotion and technical splendor, their debut full length album ‘Eternal Blue’ is destined to latch onto the hearts and minds of those who hear it. It is that connection between fan and artist that drives Courtney, Mike and Bill in all that they do as the Spiritbox phenomenon continues to grow bigger and bigger.
Having toured the world many times over with their previous bands – metal outfit iwrestledabearonce (Courtney and Mike) and pop punk band Living With Lions (Bill) – Spiritbox absorbed the highs and lows of living as working musicians and decided to try a different and more sustainable approach when it came to releasing their music. In doing so they quickly garnered a cult-like online following which has led to over 75 million streams across all platforms and sell outs on every physical release and most merch items they’ve released to date. Towards the end of 2020 they announced that they had signed with world renowned label, Rise Records in partnership with Pale Chord.
The band are scheduled to perform at a number of major festivals across Europe and the US this year, including:
Aug 28th – Reading Festival, UK Aug 29th – Leeds Festival, UK Sep 9th – Blue Ridge Rock Festival, Danville, VA Sep 25th – Louder Than Life Festival, Louisville, KY Oct 26 – 29th – Coheed & Cambria S.S. Neverender Cruise, Miami to Bahamas Nov 11th – Welcome To Rockville Festival, Daytona Beach, FL
