Whitechapel Reveals Details For New Album, ‘Kin’

At this stage in the game, the name Whitechapel commands respect. Already sitting on one of the most enviable catalogs in contemporary metal, in 2019 they dropped The Valley, showcasing a confident evolution in their sound and standing as a true landmark release that sets a new standard for the genre.

“To me, it was like the stars aligning for us to create our almost perfect record in regard to songwriting, vocal performance, the mix and master, and the artwork,” says guitarist Alex Wade. “We like to look at our albums as chapters of our career, and that is one chapter I will never forget. I think it really solidified that we can embrace a new sound, and if we execute it properly, then the fanbase is going to support and enjoy it.”

In 2021, they return with that album’s successor, the mighty Kin, which is an even more dynamic and diverse collection, further advancing the band’s sound into new territory without losing sight of what brought them to this point. “I feel with every album, we learn what worked best on the last one and try to utilize that in our writing. Early in the writing, there was some discussion of the album being like ‘The Valley‘ part II, not literally called that, but in how the songs sound and flow through it. It’s very much a storytelling type record like ‘The Valley‘ was,” adds vocalist Phil Bozeman, “Musically, we just want to create what we vibe with at the given moment. We write music with how we feel and not what is expected of us, while lyrically the idea of continuing from the story of ‘The Valley‘ was always the goal.”

The resulting record explores a lot of sonic and emotional territory, and for the first time, it could be said that a Whitechapel record is as much a rock album as it is a metal one, an assertion Wade agrees with. “It’s still very much a metal album, but there are elements of the record that have more of a rock and open vibe. We really wanted these songs to breathe and have life and to sound bigger than anything we’ve made so far. We have explored more singing on ‘Kin’ too. It wouldn’t make sense to have the majority of the fanbase enjoy that sound and then shy away from it.” This is not to say that the band have lost their hardest edges, with the full-on death metal assault that kicks off both “Lost Boy” and “To The Wolves” as brutal and serrated as extreme metal gets, and while Bozeman explores his wide-ranging singing voice more, he also cuts loose with his trademark roar across the album’s eleven tracks.

Tracking of Kin was predominantly done at guitarist Zach Householder’s home studio with producer Mark Lewis producing his fifth straight Whitechapel album, making for a very comfortable working environment.

“Creating records with him has an effortless flow to it, and we can track things pretty quickly and efficiently these days,” says Wade. “Mark has a great ear for giving us unique and complementary guitar and drum tones for the songs we are trying to record.” The tracks were then sent off to David Castillo at Ghostward Studios in Sweden for mixing, with Ted Jensen mastering it in Nashville, TN. Now, having another album they can be as proud of as its predecessor, it stands them in good stead as they look toward the future.

“I see more growth and a limitless potential,” says Wade. “I think we found a great formula on ‘The Valley’, and we used that to create another monumental record for our career that I can’t wait for people to hear. We hope to continue to grow our fanbase with this new album, and always seek to move in a positive direction. I’m excited as the pandemic lessens for the touring world to come back to life and to be able to perform these massive songs we have created in the manner they were meant to be heard – live and loud.”

Tremonti Releases Live Music Video for “A World Away”

With the excitement for the new album increasing and as the band gets ready to hit the road in support of the new album Marching In TimeTremonti has released a live music video for the crushing album opener. The live video version of “A World Away” opens with a musical intro before switching into the driving metal riff that kicks off the upcoming album. The video was recorded live in Orlando, FL and features live vocals and instrumentation that gives fans a taste of what they can expect when Tremonti heads out on tour.

The live video for “A World Away” can be seen here:

Marching In Time is scheduled for global release on September 24th via Napalm Records and fans that pre-order the album digitally will receive instant downloads of “A World Away,” “Marching In Time” and “If Not For You.” Marching In Time is now available for pre-order here.

Mark Tremonti is no stranger to storytelling. Throughout his years with top-charting bands Alter Bridge and Creed, and most recently his solo band, Mark has never strayed from his love of writing memorable songs. With the upcoming fifth album, Marching In Time, the band looks to continue this trend while exploring their love for heavy music, drawing from current events from the last year to form the basis of each song. While its predecessor, A Dying Machine, was an overall concept album seeped in darker sentiments and story, the vibe of Marching In Time is different – emerging as a charging rock/metal offering that takes the listener on 12 individual journeys.

From the driving drum beat of opener “A World Away” to the epic closer “Marching In Time,” the new album is a reflective look at the world around us today. Tremonti’s unmatched musicianship bleeds through the album, showcased on tracks like “Thrown Further,” “In One Piece” and the thought provoking “Would You Kill.” Alternatively, the band displays their softer side on pensive tracks “The Last One Of Us” and “Not Afraid to Lose.” The debut single “If Not For You” shows the evolution of the band’s sound in 2021 and the music video is a frenetic, high-energy performance video that visually compliments the single that is currently impacting radio. The music video can be seen here. The album closer “Marching In Time” clocks in at 7:34 and a recently released music video for the epic can be seen here. Marching In Time was produced longtime friend and collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette – the producer Mark has worked with exclusively since 2007.

The track listing for Marching In Time is:
1.    A World Away
2.    Now And Forever
3.    If Not For You
4.    Thrown Further
5.    Let That Be Us
6.    The Last One Of Us
7.    In One Piece
8.    Under The Sun
9.    Not Afraid To Lose
10.  Bleak
11.  Would You Kill

10 Intense Live Concert Injuries!

Thanks to everyone who watched, listened, and voted during the New Music Streams. Keep spreading the word to get more people involved in the New Music Night discussions. It’s much more than people just playing random sound effects during bad songs and trying to make me laugh (though that is a fun part of it). Two hours of new rock, metal, alternative, indie, punk, industrial, etc for every stream.

Also, if you have suggestions on how to make New Music Night streams better, just let me know on Twitter or during a stream. I’m always looking for improvement to make the stream better for everyone. This is something I look forward to every week now and am happy people are enjoying it.

Rise Against Bring Nowhere Generation To St. Louis

This was my first concert in 17 months. I say that because I am confident it’s been roughly the same amount of time for many (if not most) fans who saw Rise Against in St. Louis on August 27th. A few songs into the set, Tim McIlrath took to the mic saying how it’s been a crazy two years and the band wasn’t sure if they’d ever be able to play live again.

Supporting their ninth studio album Nowhere Generation, Rise Against came to Music Park as the band’s second to last stop before heading home to Chicago. “Nowhere Generation” truly feels like an apt description of our current age of music fans. We know we need to progress but are incapable of moving forward due to those in front of us. The setlist included several songs from the band’s latest release that helped reflect many of these notions. As always, Rise Against stands at the forefront of making topical and sociopolitical punk rock.

The stage design was unique with screen covers in front of speaker stacks with the simple but giant zero as a symbol and banner. It was undeniably a hot night in St. Louis but the crowd was clearly willing to sweat for the show. While I admit I would have loved to see more light and shine on the band, the group sounded great. Rise Against has been going strong for roughly 20 years and the live performance still sounds vibrant and tight. It was good to see a true concert again as the world slowly (and in this case cautiously) begins to open up.

Dance Gavin Dance Afterburner Tour Kicks Off On 9/7

Sacramento chart topping, genre defying quintet, Dance Gavin Dance are finally set to kick-off their long awaited North American Afterburner Tour on September 7th. It was announced today that previously announced main support, Animals As Leaders will no longer be joining the tour due to unforeseen circumstances. However, taking their place on this run will now be genre bending, prog masters, Polyphia. Rounding out the line-up, as planned, will be Veil Of MayaEidola and Wolf & Bear. Many shows on the Afterburner Tour have already sold out and several are on low ticket alert. Remaining tickets and VIP packages are available here.

The Afterburner Tour is in support of Dance Gavin Dance‘s 2020 chart topping album of the same name. The album hit the Billboard charts twice last year due to the band’s decision to choose their fans over a chart position and release the digital-only version of the album first, forfeiting physical sales due to the COVID-19 induced manufacturing shut-down. In a hugely impressive turn of events, Dance Gavin Dance once again proved their undeniable popularity as the digital-only release of Afterburner (Rise Records) soared straight to the top of the charts hitting #1 across the Current Album, Alternative, Digital, Rock and Heavy Rock charts and #14 on the Billboard Top 200. This certifiable success was further cemented when the physical release of the album dropped months later and once again propelled Afterburner to the top of the charts, hitting the #1 spot on Billboard’s Vinyl, Internet, Alternative, Rock, Hard Music and Independent Current Albums as well as hitting #3 on the Top Albums and Top Current Albums charts and re-entering the Top 200 at #47.

Fans have patiently awaited the opportunity to celebrate the album with Dance Gavin Dance in the live setting since March of 2020 when the tour was originally due to start and the time is finally here. The Afterburner Tour will kick off in Portland, OR on September and play a further 33 cites across North America, before culminating in Las Vegas, NV on October 20th. Wage War to Release New Album “Manic” on 10/1

Florida hard rock quintet WAGE WAR — Briton Bond [lead vocals], Cody Quistad [rhythm guitar, clean vocals], Seth Blake [lead guitar], Chris Gaylord [bass], and Stephen Kluesener [drums] — have officially announced their fourth full-length Manic. The album is due out October 1 on Fearless Records. Pre-order it here.

The band is sharing the new single “Circle the Drain,” one of the most anthemic songs in the band’s catalog to date. Listen here.

“‘Circle the Drain’ is a song about learning from past mistakes and accepting responsibility in a world that needs change,” the band shares. “It starts with us deciding to be a part of the solution.”

As for the album, Wage War offer, “After a long wait, and endless hours of work, we could not be more ecstatic to announce our new album Manic. We’ve spent the entire last year working so hard to bring you the best Wage War yet, and we’ve never been more sure that we’ve accomplished that.”

The band previously shared the video for “High Horse.”

On Manic, the band masterfully strikes a delicate and well-crafted balance of grooves, riffs, melodies, and electronic flourishes.

After amassing nearly 300 million streams and receiving widespread acclaim from BillboardLoudwireModern Drummer, American SongwriterAlternative Press, and more, the group delivered 11 anthems meant to connect through turbulence.

Manic encompasses everything we’ve gone through as musicians in the last year-and-a-half,” says Kluesener. “The whole industry halted, and we technically lost our jobs. Our scene was among the first to leave and the last to come back. The album captures the whole period.”

Quistad pulls back the curtain even more, saying, “Mania is a wild emotion. The last year was all severe highs and lows. We had some victories, but we’ve also had so many low points. We’ve built this thing for the last 10 years and put all of our chips into it. We’ve missed birthdays and funerals, but we’ve done some extraordinary things. Last year, we found ourselves wondering if it would ever come back. That’s really what the album is about.”

Ultimately, Manic is a triumph and a definitive artistic statement for Wage War. It represents the apex of an intense creative journey. They built a diehard audience with Blueprints [2015] and Deadweight [2017] and through incessant touring. 2019’s Pressure exploded right out of the gate. “Low” piled on 24.9 million Spotify streams with “Who I Am” at 10.7 million Spotify streams and “Me Against Myself” at 8.4 million Spotify streams. Beyond bringing their total stream tally past a-quarter-of-a-billion, it landed on Loudwire’s “50 Best Metal Albums of 2019,” while Billboard praised the album’s levity. American Songwriter called attention to the evolution of the band’s songwriting and sound, while New Noise Magazine awarded it 4-out-of-5 starsElsewhere, Alternative Press raved, “Wage War are unapologetically changing the game on all fronts on Pressure.”

The Bronx Debut “Peace Pipe” Video

The Bronx, who release their highly-anticipated new album, Bronx VI (Cooking Vinyl) this Friday, have released a Craig R. Stecyk-directed video for the song “Peace Pipe.”

“Working with Craig Stecyk on the ‘Peace Pipe’ video was the first fit and a dream come true,” says Matt Caughthran of the Joshua Tree set performance clip. “The feel of the song matches Craig’s aesthetic perfectly and honestly just being around him is very inspiring. His style and vision will always be completely original and unique. They just don’t make ‘em like CRS anymore!”

The SoCal band previously partnered with Stecyk, founder of the famous Zephyr Surfshop that birthed the skate team of the same name and was the basis of the Dogtown documentary and film, for a limited edition Bronx X Craig Stecyk skate deck. Sabaton Debut New Music Video “Steel Commanders”

Get ready to headbang with the latest collaboration between Swedish metallers SABATON and World of Tanks.  The two facets of heavy metal are about to really put on a show.  Kicking off in full force with the “Steel Commanders” music video that is an essential addition to every tanker’s battle music playlist, the band will also be staging a massive in-game event that will reward tankers with a little bit of history:  the first-ever Tier IX Premium tank.

“It’s been a great experience working with the World of Tanks and Wargaming guys on this huge project,” said Joakim Brodén, lead vocalist of Sabaton.  “Together, we made epic music for ‘Steel Commanders,’ and it’s the perfect way to kick off our massive collaboration.  We’re proud to be part of this brand new, in-game event that features the first-ever Tier IX Premium tank as the ultimate prize, as well as us as crew members.”

Watch the “Steel Commanders” music video here:

The music video also features GRAMMY Award-nominated and BRIT Female Artist of the Year-nominated Tina Guo.  Having established an international career as a virtuoso acoustic/electric cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and entrepreneur, Tina Guo is known for her unique genre-crossing style, is one of the most recorded solo cellists of all time, and can be heard on hundreds of blockbuster film, television, and game soundtracks.

“Steel Commanders” will be available on all digital streaming platforms on September 17.  You can pre-save the song here:  https://spotify.sabaton.net

All pre-savers will be eligible to win prizes including “Steel Commanders” merchandise, as well as World of Tanks bonus codes with exclusive Sabaton in-game content.

Apart from the music video, Sabaton is headlining a new in-game event, Spirit of War.  The event will see tankers take on challenges to reap the maximum reward:  the game’s first-ever Tier IX Premium tank, the Strv K. Eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed it in the “Steel Commanders” video, and it will be manned by a Sabaton crew that includes Brodén, who recorded a custom voiceover that is full of Easter eggs for fans to discover.  Once tankers earn their Strv K, they will be tasked with getting the exclusive “Spirit of War” 3D style.

“We’re really enjoyed working with the Sabaton guys, and we’re happy to have them on board this project,” said Max Chuvalov, Publishing Director, World of Tanks.  “Our players love their music, and we complement each other as we are both fascinated with military history.  Plus, we hope the new tune will inspire tankers to go that extra mile for the victory.”

Even if players ultimately do not finish the marathon, they will earn plenty of goodies along the way, and each stage they clear will allow them a set 10% discount on purchasing the Strv K, and the same is true for the 3D style.  The Strv K also features its own Sabaton soundtrack and will allow you to earn bonds in Random Battles, so it’s a vehicle no tanker will want to miss out on, if not for owning a piece of World of Tanks history.  The Spirit of War event will run from August 27 through September 6.
