Aftershock Festival Welcomes 145,000 Fans Over Four Days

One of the largest events to be held in Sacramento, California in two years, Aftershock returned to Discovery ParkOctober 7-10 with a memorable four-day weekend for the first time in the event’s history, welcoming a record-setting attendance of 145,000 fans and retaining its title of the West Coast’s Biggest Rock Festival.

Aftershock has also announced dates for 2022, to be held the weekend of October 6-9, once again returning to Discovery Park. Passes are available now for just $10 down for a limited time at https://aftershock2022.frontgatetickets.com.

Producer Danny Wimmer Presents is pleased to report that almost 99% of festivalgoers this year arrived with proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test – and others were able to receive convenient rapid testing onsite in order to access the event without delay.

Metal giants Metallica continued their partnership with DWP at Aftershock, delivering an incredible two unique sets over two nights including hits from the band’s 40-year catalogue on Friday, October 8 as well as playing Metallica (The Black Album) in full from back to front in honor of the record’s 30th anniversary.

Other memorable moments at the 9th edition of Aftershock included a headlining appearance from The Original Misfits on Saturday, October 9 who helped usher in the Halloween season with a rousing horror-punk performance as well as a Thursday closing set from Cypress Hill. Earlier that day, the festival offered a not-to-be-missed Bay Area thrash metal showdown with Testament, Exodus (reuniting with drummer Tom Hunting) and Death Angel providing an apt preview for fellow locals, Metallica. A recently reunited Mudvayne also appeared on Saturday, October 9.

Some sets also featured guest stars such as Tye Trujillo (son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo) appearing with his dad’s former band Suicidal TendenciesRise Against’s Tim McIlrath joining Pennywise to cover Minor Threat; and Dropkick Murphys on stage with Rancid.

Aftershock also honed in on rising talent including the first major festival appearance for Mammoth WVH, the project of Wolfgang Van Halen, son of the late Eddie Van Halen.

East Bay Express and Mercury News said Aftershock was “shaping up to be a tremendously successful festival,” adding, “While some festivals try to be everything to everybody, booking a diverse lineup that will hopefully appeal to the broadest amount of listeners, Aftershock goes the other direction and keeps a tight focus on all things heavy — mostly metal and hard rock, sprinkled with a bit of punk and hip-hop. In that sense, it’s a niche festival, but one that is also able to draw 30,000-plus fans per day. It’s become the place to be for headbangers over the years, annually offering up the best that these heavy music genres have to offer.”

As well, Sacramento Bee said, “The return of the Aftershock Festival following a 2020 hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the country’s most anticipated hard rock events this year. With a combined attendance of about 150,000 from the festival’s opening night on Thursday to a show closing set from Metallica on Sunday, Aftershock is also music to the ears of civic and tourism officials who are eager for a much needed economic boost.”

The event (sold out for the fifth consecutive year) is estimated to have brought in $30 million to the local economy with 75% of the attendees traveling to Aftershock from outside the region, according to Mike Testa, CEO of Visit Sacramento.

In addition to the 60 music acts over 4 days, with performances on three stages, festivalgoers were able to enjoy some of the best food and drinks that the Sacramento area has to offer, as well as various sponsor activations and experiences.

As well, all weekend long, festival fans were treated to exclusive interviews with bands playing Aftershock courtesy of the crew behind “That Space Zebra Show, including Cypress Hill, Rise Against, Seether, Steel Panther, Body Count and dozens more. Interviews can be watched now on DWPresents Twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/dwpresents. As well, Metal Ambassador and SiriusXM host Jose Mangin was a part of the weekend, introducing various acts ahead of their performances.

Danny Wimmer Presents will wrap up the 2021 festival season with Welcome To Rockvillein Daytona Beach, Florida November 11-14 with two unique sets over two nights from Metallica, as well as Slipknot and Disturbed in headlining performances, plus Rob Zombie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, A Day To Remember, The Offspring and many more. Tickets are on sale now at https://welcometorockvillefestival.com/.

Aftershock partners included: Blackcraft, California’s Finest CBD, Clown Cannabis, Coors Light, Deep Eddy Vodka, Dr. Greenthumb’s, ESP, Fearless Records, FC Cancer, Heavy Grass, Hellflower Soap Company, Helpful Hemp, It’s Ronz World, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, KOLAS, Mortus Viventi, Musician’s Institute, Revolver & Inked Magazine, Sammy’s Beach Bar Cocktails, Space Zebra, The Pretty Cult, Thunder Valley Casino Resort, TickPick, TWLOHA and weedmaps.

Aftershock also celebrated many non-profits including Animal Place, FC Cancer, Headcount, Rock Against Racism and Take Me Home.

Aftershock is produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, one of the largest independent producers of destination music festivals in America. Additional DWP events include Bourbon & Beyond, Epicenter, Hometown Rising, Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival, Louder Than Life, Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival, and Welcome To Rockville.

Palaye Royale Share New Single & Music Video “Paranoid”

Enigmatic trio Palaye Royale share their adrenaline-fueled new track “Paranoid,” along with its accompanying knock-out music video, out today via Sumerian Records. Stream/download the track HERE and watch the music video HERE.  Premiered exclusively with Daniel Carter at the UK’s BBC Radio 1 yesterday, “Paranoid” was co-written by the band and GRAMMY-nominated Chris Greatti, who also produced the track.

Confessional and raw, “Paranoid” presents a spellbinding examination of insecurity and self-doubt, unfolding in gorgeously spectral textures before reaching a furious urgency at the bridge.  The band comment on the track, “Paranoid is about all the little insecurities in your head holding you back from living your life. It’s about the doubt and that voice in your head telling you that you cannot do something. It’s about the journey to silence that voice and your fears and to rise above it“.

The video, directed by frequent Palaye Royale creative collaborators Harrison Sanborn and Michael Bolton, finds the band in a robust downtown Los Angeles subway scene going about their day-to-day lives, but seemingly losing sense of themselves. The images subliminally portray the themes of depression and anxiety reflected lyrically in the song.

Stream “Paranoid” Here

The release of “Paranoid” comes on the heels of the band’s sold-out, headline concert for a rabid packed house at LA’s Wiltern Theatre on October 1st.  A significant milestone, it was one of their first live shows in over a year and a welcome opportunity to showcase the bold new material written during lockdown, with more new music to come.  The Wiltern also serves as a landmark where the band once stood following other artist’s shows handing out flyers to spread the word about their own music.  Making more noise around town, they also performed as part of bi-annual Cars & Fashion Gala kicking off LA Fashion Week (LAFW) on October 7th on the rooftop of the Petersen Automotive Museum, one of the world’s premier car museums and historical landmarks in Los Angeles.

Paranoid” follows the latest two new tracks and videos the band unleashed over the summer including the undeniably infectious “No Love In LA,” and the darkly addictive “Punching Bag.” “No Love In LA” is on an upward trajectory at Alternative Radio, currently #35 on the chart, and was the 4th most added song in its first week ahead of the official impact date, in the company of Twenty-One Pilots, Billy Eilish and Imagine Dragons.  Listen to “No Love in LA” here and watch the colorful music video here.  The video has over 2 million views since its release, making it the band’s fastest growing viewed video ever, while the song has also amassed over 4 million streams. Palaye Royale also released a stirring unplugged version of “No Love in LA,”  showing off their musicality with their classically-trained chops on full display.  Check out the video for “Punching Bag” here

The gritty and authentic Palaye Royale has earned an obsessive cult-like following, boasting over 345 million streams, 30 million+ YouTube views and 1.7 million monthly Spotify listeners, with the band gracing the cover of such notable Spotify playlists as New Noise. Their social following between the band and its individual members is at almost 2 million across platforms and growing. Living out a wild odyssey worthy of legends, Palaye Royale’s rock n’ roll circus is leading a generation in togetherness through truth, honesty, and change. First landing in Los Angeles as teenagers, the Las Vegas-bred brothers worked their way up through the ruthless L.A. rock scene while briefly living out of their car, soon finding themselves playing arenas with the likes of Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and Stone Sour. The trio are readying their fourth full-length studio album and follow-up to 2020’s The Bastards.

Ice Nine Kills Drop “Funeral Derangements”

Slashercore outfit, Ice Nine Kills have dropped the fourth and final new track from their upcoming album The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood‘ prior to its release this coming Friday, October 15th via Fearless Records. Today’s offering submitted into evidence is titled “Funeral Derangements” and is inspired by the Stephen King horror classic, Pet Sematary. The accompanying music video features Horror icon Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses), a show stopping cameo from Miko Hughes, the actor from the original 1989 Pet Sematary, a cameo from Josh Katz from Badflower portraying the undead Victor Pascow and James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca creators of the wildly popular Dead Meat James “Kill Count” Youtube series. Stream the track here and watch the official music video here or by clicking below.

Ice Nine Kills frontman and driving creative force, Spencer Charnas shares:

“In perhaps the most ironic cameo in recent horror memory, we’ve tapped the amazing Miko Hughes, (Gage from the original Pet Sematary), to play the role of the reckless truck driver. An 18 wheeler, a twisted cat, a scalpel and an evil burial ground all come together in what I’d call our most ambitious homage yet. Dig in…”

The band also released their latest Nightmare On The Ninth merch capsule in conjunction with the new track/video. All items are available for a limited time here.

Funeral Derangements” follows the release of previous singles “Rainy Day” ‘Assault & Batteries‘ follows the release of “Hip To Be Scared, the first single from ‘The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood‘, that paid homage to the Bret Easton Ellis classic, ‘American Psycho‘. The three tracks combined have already clocked up 15.7 million streams with 3.6 million YouTube views.

No matter how many advances there are in cinematography, practical effects, or CGI, there’s a single scene in the 1989 adaptation of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary almost unrivaled in its shockingness, and things only unravel for the characters from there. The story involves a burial ground capable of reanimating the dead, though the versions of pets (like Church, the movie’s family cat) and people that return are devastatingly malevolent. John Feldmann cowrote the track, lending a Bad Religion-style anthemic vibe. Bassist Joe Occhiuti spent time on the tour bus working on discordant noises to match some of the movie’s frightening animalism. It also contains some of the best lyrics of Spencer Charnas’ career, including, “It all began with a skid on the pavement / it ends now with Funeral Derangements / the flesh is living, but the souls have spoiled / the wrath of God lays beneath the soil.” Cue the mosh pit going wild.

A sequel of franchise proportions to the No. 1 Billboard Hard Rock Album ‘The Silver Scream’, ‘The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood’ doubles down in pursuit of the anthemic band’s cinematic muse.

Decadent, devious, and fiercely insane, with sardonic wit to spare, Ice Nine Kills celebrate pop culture’s darkest edges, mining a cinephile library’s worth of b-movie schlock and iconic horror on ‘Welcome to Horrorwood:The Silver Scream 2′ and it’s prequel, ‘The Silver Scream’. Physical pre-orders of the album are available now here.

Like the undead slashers celebrated in their songs, Ice Nine Kills return with The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood, a sequel of gruesome movie-sized proportion to their No. 1 Billboard Hard Rock Album, The Silver ScreamWelcome to Horrorwood carves out a fresh, bloody homage to the VHS celluloid classics that possessed singer Spencer Charnas at an early age, with a devilish new twist.

Drew Fulk (Motionless In White, Dance Gavin Dance, Pop Evil) produced The Silver Scream and returned for Welcome to Horrorwood. Album guests include Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach), George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher (Cannibal Corpse), Brandon Saller (Atreyu), Ryan Kirby (Fit For A King), and Buddy Nielsen (Senses Fail). The album mixes the melodies, riffs, and wit that are the band’s signature, as heard in the Top 10 Mainstream Rock single “A Grave Mistake” and Top 20 hit “Savages.”

Dan Sugarman (guitar), Ricky Armellino (guitar), Patrick Galante (drums), and Joe Occhuiti (bass) are the current co-conspirators behind Charnas, who founded the band as a teen in the early 2000s. Decadent, devious, and fiercely insane, Ice Nine Kills celebrate pop culture’s darkest edges, mining a cinephile library’s worth of iconic horror on The Silver Scream and The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood. The creative marriage made in hell of music and fiction began in earnest with the Top 5 Hard Rock album, Every Trick in the Book, which brought the previous three records’ themes to new levels.

The band’s synergy of music and lifestyle draws favorable comparisons to Slipknot and Rob Zombie. Visionary trailblazers and multimedia raconteurs, INK built a thrilling world for a growing legion of devoted true believers, with theatrical shows, high-concept videos, and inventive band-to-fan communion. Their wildly creative output has seen them become recent recipients of the prestigious Clio Award for Music Marketing for their “Merry Axe-mas” mobile game and their live streaming event from October 2020, The Silver Stream be nominated for 5 awards at this year’s Horror Hound Film Festival Awards in the categories of Judges Choice, Best Sound, Best Supporting Performance, Best Cinematography and Best Feature. With over 1.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify410 million career streams to date, a combined social media reach of over 950k and over 73 million views on YouTube, the band are firmly cemented as one of modern metal’s most vicious forces.

Crossfaith Return With “Feel Alive”

Japanese genre-blenders CROSSFAITH have today released a brand new single “Feel Alive.” Listen here.

“‘Feel Alive’ was the first song that we wrote since COVID-19 brought our world down into chaos,” says frontman frontman Kenta Koie.”Everyone was forced to be alone and divided by the virus, thus we decided to make this song as a hope that cast the shadow. Also, we wanted to make it with our fans, so we recorded our fans clapping at our first show back since this unexpected disaster. In addition, we worked with Josh from Modestep on ‘Feel Alive’ so you can hear true essence of UK bass music! This song means a lot to us, and hope this will be the light that shines on you.”

Last month, the band shared “Slave of Chaos.” Listen here.

“Playing heavy music is how I feel alive,” says singer Kenta Koie. “We want Crossfaith to be the band making music that no one has ever heard before. Crossfaith formed in 2006 and released their debut album The Artificial Theory for The Dramatic Beauty in 2009, followed by The Dream, The Space (2011), Apocalyze (2013), Xeno (2015), and Ex Machina (2018). Each one saw the band blend its love of punk rock, metal, and electronic music in daring new ways. “Good art is how I express myself to other people. It’s hard to talk from the bottom of my heart, that’s why I write these songs,” Koie says. In keeping with their progressive musical journey, 2020’s SPECIES EPsaw the band continue to push their own sonic soundscape to new grounds.

When Koie was younger, he was drawn to heavy music because it was unlike anything he’d ever heard before. “I heard Slipknot’s ‘People=Shit’ and it changed my life. I didn’t know I had this anger inside me and it was the most inspirational moment for me. I wanted to be the one blowing minds.” At 12 years old, he had one big question that he wanted to answer. He grew up listening to Western music and could find it easily in all Japanese record stores, but he knew not many people listened to Japanese music in the west. He wanted to change that. “I had a dream to play my music outside of Japan,” Koie shares. “I wanted to be the Japanese band that was listened to by people all across the world. That dream came true but we’re not done yet.”

“You need bands who are leaders,” the singer says. “Especially in rock music. We focus on making new things and making new movement. That’s our role. We don’t want to be getting old. It’s so sad when you see your heroes starting to sound old, so we brush ourselves off everyday and always try to find a new way to make music. Exploring is very important.”

STARSET Reveal New Transmission “Earthrise”

STARSET will release their fourth studio album, HORIZONS.  The album arrives October 22 via Fearless Records.

Today, the band has shared the latest transmission “EARTHRISE.” Listen here

A continued voyage through a captivating narrative, HORIZONS delivers a cinematic soundscape that accompanies the listener through pain, love, descent, and triumph. The world has been consumed by synthetic methods of escaping reality. It is with this technology that we are able to explore life through other users experiences — finally, the ability to be someone else. STARSET’s epic hard rock styling does not disappoint, as we travel a newfound digital frontier along with them.
