Established in 2000, The Used was brought to life and have since released a collection of albums that pioneered the scene of emo rock. High energy live shows, gut wrenching relatable lyrics, and melodies that blended pop sensibility and hard rock was the perfect combination to make an everlasting impression on fans globally.

The rock icons released their ninth studio album, Heartwork (Deluxe), in 2021 via Big Noise. The extended album features 11 never-before-heard tracks that were all written during the original Heartwork (2020) sessions. A variety of collaborators including producer John Feldmann, co-writer Mark Hoppus (Blink-182), guest artists Travis Barker, Jason Aalon Butler (Fever 333), Caleb Shomo (Beartooth) and more helped deliver this now 27-track album that simultaneously showcases what made The Used emerge as one of the most prolific bands of the early 2000s as well as what has kept them at the forefront of the genre ever since. The band locked in #4 spots on both the Top Alternative and Top Hard Rock Album charts, #11 on Top Rock Album charts as well as landing in the Billboard Top 200 at the #87 spot.

Pixies Announce World Tour & “Human Crime” Music Video

Pixies – Black Francis, Joey Santiago, David Lovering, and Paz Lenchantin – today announce “Human Crime,” a brand new digital-exclusive single and music video – and their first new release since September 2020 – both set for release on Wednesday, March 2 (Infectious/BMG). Written by Charles Thompson, the track was produced and mixed by Tom Dalgety, and recorded in Los Angeles in the fall of 2021. You can check out the “Human Crime” track here:  https://pixies.ffm.to/humancrime.opr

Directed by Pixies’ Paz Lenchantin and filmed in the Los Angeles area at the San Pedro abandoned bunkers and Santa Monica’s Gold Diggers Bar, the “Human Crime” music video gives the viewer a glimpse into a nether world of fairies, situated just around that next corner, parallel to our dimension, rarely seen or experienced. As Lenchantin said, “The storyline is loosely based on an ‘inside joke’ between Charles and I about going on tour. How we go through a door from our reality state into the altered state of becoming and being a Pixie.”

After what had to be the longest stretch of time not touring since their 2004 reunion – courtesy of COVID – Pixies are getting ready to hit the road for the first time in more than two years.   The band will kick off with a handful of sold-out, western U.S. warm-up dates, and then headline the Vive Latino 2022 festival in Mexico City before heading to the U.K. and Europe.   In addition, Pixies will open the BBC 6 Music Festival on Friday, April 1 at The Great Hall in Cardiff, marking the first time the band has performed in the U.K. since 2019. BBC 6 Music Festival tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at https://pixies.ffm.to/live.opr For those who cannot make it to the show, Pixies’ performance will be broadcast live, worldwide on BBC Radio 6 via TuneIn, and on BBC TV (in the UK only) on the BBC Red Button through iPlayer.

As is the band’s norm, Pixies will draw from some 100 well-rehearsed songs from their extensive catalogue (and possibly a surprise or two) to play whatever they want, whenever they want, in whatever order they want.  Indeed, no two Pixies sets are ever alike.  Confirmed 2022 Pixies dates are as follows, and tickets for all dates can be purchased at https://pixies.ffm.to/live.opr .

PUPPY Release New Single “Shame.” New Album out May 6

London rock band, PUPPY, have released heir incredible and introspective brand new single ‘Shame’ through Rude Records. Following on from both ‘The Kiss’ (currently zooming past 100,000 streams on Spotify) and the Brooklyn Vegan approved ‘…And Watched it Glow’, ‘Shame’ shows a different side to PUPPY, with its sombre and spooky tone.

“‘Shame’ is possibly our favorite song on the album (although they’re all stone-cold rippers). It marks a big step forward for us creatively in our minds because you’ve still got all the hallmarks of our “sound” (sweet harmony guitars, sad boi lyrics), but set against these big snappy groove between the drums and bass. We wanted you to be able to blast it out your low rider with the windows down whilst analyzing your life choices and maybe crying a bit.” – PUPPY

Stream “Shame” here: https://music.ruderecords.com/shame

The song is taken from the band’s upcoming new album ‘Pure Evil’, which will be released on May 6 through Rude Records. The album is now available for pre-order and pre-save here: https://music.ruderecords.com/pureevil

‘Pure Evil’ is an album created, like so much music and art the last few years, from a forced upon circumstance. Whilst obviously not influencing any of it in any way, the current pandemic has certainly created a specific path for PUPPY and this brilliant album, for good and bad. Vocalist and guitarist Jock Norton explains a bit about marrying creative drive with a global health meltdown, “We had to dig fairly deep to find the purpose in doing any of it, because the global narrative was rightly shifted to more important things. But I think to be honest that sort of introspection had filtered through into other aspects of our lives, so being able to record this album sort of gave us a bit of purpose and something to cling on to. Ultimately for us we wanted to feel engaged and productive and useful, even if it was only for ourselves and each other. Like I said, there’d be times when it would feel a bit meaningless, but getting to a place where you’re comfortable with that and happy to let the work be its own reward really helped us grow as a band and as people I think.”

Summing up this wonderful new album, and the struggle to create and carry on during all of *this*, Jock puts it neatly and perfectly, “To us the whole thing feels like a time capsule of this weird limbo period and I think that comes across on the album, or at least I hope it does. Postcards from the edge or whatever.”

‘Pure Evil’ Track Listing
01. Shining Star
02. The Kiss
03. My Offer
04. Wasted Little Heart
05. Hear My Word
06. Spellbound
07. Dear John
08. … And Watched It Glow

Dirty Honey Reveals New Music Video “Another Last Time”

Today, Dirty Honey releases a brand new music video, “Another Last Time,” a real-time, meticulously crafted escapade that immerses the viewer into the action from the first frame to the last, unfolding as one continuous, five-minute take.  Four separate but intertwining storylines take place simultaneously at a no-frills, budget motel someplace out in the California desert – a married cop and his mistress, a cheating gambler, two girls’ shared thrill of committing robbery, and a drug-scoring addict.   You can check out the video HERE.

With the band’s previous music videos having been primarily performance-based, Dirty Honey’s Marc LaBelle and APLUSFILMZ’ director Scott Fleishman (Dirty Honey’s “Rollin’ 7s,” “California Dreamin’,” and “The Wire” videos) wanted to do something completely different for this video.  Said LaBelle, “The song’s lyrics tell the story of a toxic relationship you can’t seem to get out of, and you keep going back for more.  But it’s as much a song about any addiction or compulsion, anything you just can’t kick – drugs, money, danger, whatever.  Shooting the video the way we did presented a real challenge, but I think that when you take on doing something special like this and you succeed, you come out with something really great.  And I think we did.”

Fleishman adds that shooting this video was no small feat.  “This was an ambitious technical undertaking, especially as in this video, the camera was as much a performer as a recorder.  Also, we used an anamorphic lens that captures an extremely wide viewpoint and really puts the viewer in the room.  Every sequence was planned and timed out to the second and rehearsed multiple times.  Everything had to be in synch, the actors’ performances, the camera movements, particularly when the camera emerged from one of the motel rooms to find Marc on the walkway singing the song’s lyrics.  It took us about 12 hours to shoot this video, and we probably did a total of 40 or so takes to get it all right.”

The “Another Last Time” video features Derek Phillips – Billy Riggins from the NBC-TV series “Friday Nights Lights” – TikTok influencers Elizabeth Marochok and Emma Jade, and actress Christiana Lucas from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “The Last Stand.”

Dirty Honey just launched the Young Guns tour, the 34-city, co-headline trek with Mammoth WVH, with both bands firmly intent on proving that rock’n’roll is very much alive and well.  Upcoming tour dates and ticket purchasing information can be accessed HERE.

Stabbing Westward Announces New Single “Ghost”

As the anticipation grows for the brand-new Stabbing Westard album Chasing Ghosts to be released – the band’s first new LP in more than 20 years – the four-piece gives another taste of the new music with their latest single, “Ghost.”

Hear “Ghost” and purchase the limited-edition single release here.

Fans who buy the physical or digital editions of the single will be gifted with several additional tracks including remixes of “Ghost” lead by Stabbing Westward frontman Christopher Hall and Assemblage 23 along with a reworking of early hit “Why,” from 1996 RIAA Certified Gold album Wither Blister Burn & Peel.

“Ghost” is from the new album Chasing Ghosts that will be out March 18, 2022 via COP International Records. It features 10 tracks that showcase the industrial rock band’s characteristic sound with a modern sheen that picks up right where they left off with their last full-length in 2001. With the new tracks, Stabbing Westard has not only managed to stay true to their original sound, but also expanded it to fit the frantic new reality of the 21st century.

“Ghost” follows the single “I Am Nothing” that was released in November 2021, with Loudwire saying, “20 years later [Stabbing Westward] are back in the studio making the same intense electro-goth bangers they were doing two decades earlier. Now, the compressed crunchy guitar riffs, steady pounding beats, and signature wail of singer Christopher Hall highlight a tension that seems to fit perfectly to this day and age.”

Chasing Ghosts will feature brand-new songs as well as re-workings of the band’s acclaimed 2020 reunion EP Dead and Gore that finds original founding members Christopher Hall (vocals/guitar) and Walter Flakus (keyboards/programming) honing in on the incredible partnership that once produced a string of hits that dominated alternative radio and film soundtracks, including “Shame,” “Save Yourself” and “What Do I Have to Do?” – and resulted in two Certified Gold records.

To recreate that original chemistry, the band recruited the legendary producer John Fryer to again helm Chasing Ghosts. Fyrer, whose production credits include Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, 4AD, Cocteau Twins and Love and Rockets, originally worked with Stabbing Westward on their best-selling early releases Ungod (1994) and Wither Blister Burn + Peel (1996). Chasing Ghosts was also mastered by Tom Baker who, like Fryer, worked with Stabbing Westard on their early releases and is part of the reassembled production team on the latest album. The current Stabbing Westard band lineup also includes Carlton Bost (guitars and programming) and Bobby Amaro (drums).

Presales for Chasing Ghosts are on sale now here.

With artwork by David Seidman (who has worked with Coheed and Cambria and is known for his ethereal and surrealistic imagery), formats include digital, 6-panel digipack CD, and limited-edition vinyl including a run of 2,000 double-gatefold 180gr black vinyl with an additional insert. Exclusive limited-edition merch will also be announced soon.

The full track listing for Chasing Ghosts is as follows:
1. I Am Nothing
2. Damaged Goods
3. Cold
4. Push
5. Wasteland
6. Ctrl Z
7. Crawl
8. Dead & Gone
9. Ghost
10. The End

EVERGREY Announce New Album “A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament)”

Gothenburg’s finest export of darkness, EVERGREY, enters an bewildering new chapter in the band’s history with their thirteenth studio album and Napalm Records debut, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), to be released on May 20, 2022 via Napalm Records. This overwhelming journey through progressive heaviness and searing emotionality reaches new heights and is preceded by the arrival of the soaring first single “Save Us”, in which heavy prog and melancholic beauty climax in a soulful chorus that proves EVERGREY to be top songwriters in their genre!

The pounding album opener reflects everything the new full-length stands for, as it kicks in immediately with stunning guitar work and unveils a chorus sure to top the annals of EVERGREY history. Listen carefully and you will hear the voices of hundreds of fans who were invited by EVERGREY to send recordings of their voices to later provide group vocals for the track – making their everlasting mark on EVERGREY history.

For the astonishing music video, the five-piece teamed up with longtime companion Patric Ullaeus to create a bewitching visual experience that exemplifies EVERGREY.

Tom S. Englund on “Save Us”:
“’Save Us’ is about us. It’s about you and I. It’s about how I see our minds becoming hostages in a world where painting optimal portraits of ourselves is more important than being who we really are. It’s about my observation of watching people around me who are feeling that they’re not good enough for the world, or for themselves. I’m afraid we’re lost, and I think we need to help each other to find our way back to what is important, to rediscover a true sense of self. As we, as artists, also contribute to content and social media as a livelihood, it’s about the paradox of being caught in a world which is hard to free yourself from. I can only wish that our music brings some balance to that equation.”

Celebrating over 25 years of metal mastery, EVERGREY, led by founder, singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund, are known for wandering the realms of progressive and heavy melodic metal and painting sonic renderings with their twelve studio records released as of today. A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), the follow-up to the unit’s highly successful 2021 full-length, Escape of the Phoenix (which landed at numerous chart positions worldwide), reveals a 10 track mélange of which every note, every riff and every word seeps pure poetry – creating a ceaseless intensity that mesmerizes from the very first second.

The new album was recorded at Top Floor Studios Gothenburg, engineered by Jakob Herrman and   produced by Tom S. Englund and Jonas Ekdahl, with mixing and mastering by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios (VolbeatDestructionEpica and many more), whereas the hauntingly beautiful album artwork was conjured by Giannis Nakos at Remedy Art Design. Nakos is known for creating artworks for acts like Oceans Of SlumberAmarantheThe Agonist and The Crown as well as merchandise for Morbid AngelSuffocation or Cryptopsy – just to name a few.

EVERGREY on the new album:
“Here it is! A new album! Yet again! This is what we love about music, it never ends! Our mission is to write music so here you are! 10 new songs! 10 new EVERGREY songs that we hope you will have by your side as your life continues to shift and grow. 10 songs that we wish will be part of the soundtrack when you’re creating new memories and new possibilities in your life. 10 songs that we feel privileged to have you listen to. 10 songs that have risen through the ashes of two years where our creativity has had more time than ever to flourish.

10 songs we really hope you will enjoy as much as we did writing them. As usual we have given it our best and we can’t wait to hear what you have to say! A new year, a new album, a new record label = new possibilities. All this can only be positive, right?

Enjoy!

Tom, Jonas, Rikard, Johan & Henrik”

Get your copy of A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) NOW!

A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) impresses with flawless, meticulous production that deftly depicts both heartfelt honesty and scorching metallic intensity, while its instrumental force of furious, technically driven riffs, skyrocketing solos and dramatic synths merges with the expert, brooding vocal performance of Englund – one of the most distinctive vocalists in metal. He skillfully balances harsh and heavy tones with an inarguably soulful approach, all topped by melancholic, thought-provoking lyricism that digs deeper with every spin, leaving a long-lasting impact. Songs like “Midwinter Calls”, which also contains fan participation with atmospheric audience recordings from the band’s latest tour through Sweden, and “The Great Unwashed”, draw the listener in with grooving, glistering instrumentation, flowing between boisterous dynamics and a next level vocal performance, while emotive “Wildfires” turns the volume down as a goosebump-worthy ballad that hurts and heals all at once. “Call Out The Dark” begins atmospherically with accented keys, suddenly evolving into an intense opus of symphonic and power metal attributes in the blink of an eye, whereas the record’s longest track, “The Orphean Testament”, impresses by revealing its heaviest facet. A sensitive introduction lures the listener into “Heartless”, and offers one of the album’s most engaging verses, followed by a hauntingly beautiful chorus and variety in pace to create a magnificent listening experience.

A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) tracklisting:
1. Save Us
2. Midwinter Calls
3. Ominous
4. Call Out the Dark
5. The Orphean Testament
6. Reawakening
7. The Great Unwashed
8. Heartless
9. Blindfolded

A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) is a striking testament to the fact that while the Swedish five-piece doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone at this phase, they still impressively showcase that, after over 25 years of existence, their creativity sees no bounds – dropping yet another sensation within their impressive catalog!

Fans can  look forward to seeing EVERGREY live, as in 2022, the powerhouse will go on an extensive tour through Europe!

ERRA Share Visualizer for Cover of “Stockholm Syndrome”

Last month, prolific metalcore progressives ERRA announced the deluxe version of their latest album S/T, out March 18 via UNFD. The album is available for pre-order here.

Today, the band has shared the visualizer for its unexpected yet unforgettable cover of Muse’s “Stockholm Syndrome.” Listen here

ERRA put its own DNA-distinct stamp on the track and the accompanying visualizer takes fans through a labyrinth of twists and turns.

“The first time I heard Muse’s ‘Stockholm Syndrome,’ I thought, ‘This song is begging to be covered by a metal band,'” shares guitarist and clean vocalist Jesse Cash about the impetus for choosing to interpret this song. “It has aggressive riffs, soaring vocals, keyboard arpeggios, and a big ending breakdown. It has all the necessary materials to be contextualized into an ERRA song.”

He continues, “The chromatic guitar octaves in the verses also left me a lot of room to play with some chromatic groove riffs in the style of Meshuggah. I realized as long as I maintained the root notes of those original octaves, I could kind of be as creative as I wanted during those verses. I also adjusted the original tuning from Drop D to Drop E and tuned the guitar down an entire octave to make the song low, heavy, and more akin to the range ERRA generally tunes in.”

The expanded edition of S/T is beefed up with seven additional tracks, including a feature from Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante, along with three covers. The full track listing is below.

With touring off the table for most of 2021, the band found other means of creative outlet, and opted to re-enter the studio with producers Carson and Grant around the time of the release of what would go on to become their career-defining self titled album. On that album, the band confronted depression, anxiety, and desperation throughout. They took listeners on a near-out-of-body journey to Aokigahara, the infamous Suicide Forest of Japan; into episodic storytelling that would make Black Mirror writers proud; and into the literary works of Cormac McCarthy and Hubert Selby Jr. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, it served as a definitive mission statement for the band, the members of which are already well-respected players revered for their inspiring technicality and raw, natural talent. The deluxe edition builds upon that foundation.

RiverGhost Make Their Shaking Debut With “DarkHorse”

RiverGhost hit the ground running with their first single “DarkHorse”. While the band has been in action since 2021, they bring their bluesy rock and roll sound to 2022 with their long awaited on-record debut. “DarkHorse” has all the guitar-driven grit that hard rock fans love meshed with that signature Southern rock groove that’ll make listeners shake and shimmy. This blues rock act captures the essence of classic bands like Guns n’ Roses, The Black Crowes and Aerosmith with a fresh take on that sacred sound. “DarkHorse” is just one of many hard-hitting singles in RiverGhost’s arsenal, and listeners can expect much more to come.

“DarkHorse” is a song about being faced with the troubles of our times and life, and beating it all back. It’s a song about changing the story, a song about thriving. RiverGhost is not afraid of tackling important issues or just writing about having a fire-filled good time! When Boots Roberts and I sit down to write, we often do a lot of improv. Those bones usually end up being most of what turns out to be the final tune.” says Kaige Dvelle, RiverGhost leader and frontman.

“Kaige and Randy (Boots) work together like they have been on the same team for their entire lives, kind of a Steven Tyler/Joe Perry synergy when they are in the room together. In the studio, working with the team was just effortless. All I had to do was stay out of the way and not mock it up.” – Tim Dolbear, producer.

“This is a great song! Exceptional groove between the bass and drums, there’s excellent melody and a great guitar solo. Don’t miss out on RiverGhost, you’ll really like this.” – Jon Wysocki, Staind

“Takes me back to the glory days of 70’s blues rock. Reminiscent of Free, Humble Pie, and The Black Crowes. A slice of feel good, earthy rock and roll!” – Tony Harnell, TNT

In the words of RiverGhost: “If you love that four on the floor rock’n roll, if you love songs that hang in your mind, pump your heart and haunt your soul…buckle up, it’s coming fast!”

Temple Of Shadows Release “The Hanged Man”

TEMPLE OF SHADOWS RELEASE “THE HANGED MAN”
FEATURING JUSTIN DEBLIECK (EX-ICE NINE KILLS)
& JOEL DEMARTINO (MOONSTRIKER)

Temple of Shadows is a brand new band fronted by long-time friends, Justin ‘JD’ deBlieck (Ex-Ice Nine Kills) and Joel DeMartino (Moonstriker). Together they deliver dueling vocals shrouded in cryptic lyrics over high-energy progressive rock. Their music explores the parallels between the Tarot and alchemical transmutation. “The Hanged Man” is the second single in their tarot-themed series of releases, following their debut with “The Hermit”. Alike the alchemists of old, their songs are riddled with hidden meanings sending the listener on a mystical journey through the collective subconscious.

Temple of Shadows is our musical interpretation of the vast depth that exists in the world of Tarot. We find personal connections to the characters and have the opportunity to gain fresh perspectives on the challenges that this life has for us. Through understanding, kindness, focus, meditation, patience and much more we are given a chance to elevate our way of thinking to a peaceful state of mind. “The Hanged Man” is our take on the message of knowing your surroundings and finding peace in the madness.” – Justin deBlieck

Temple of Shadows, while only on their second release, is making their mark among listeners- closing in on 7,000 followers and over 12,000 likes on TikTok in a matter of weeks. The duo closed out 2021 with their debut release, “The Hermit”, which can be heard here.
“Our vision for this project was to combine our mutual love for various genres. The result is a very forward-moving type of energy that propels you from moment to moment.” – Justin deBlieck
Temple of Shadows is more than a couple guys getting together to write songs. It’s a conceptual journey, where we explore the archetypes and their relationship to the alchemical process in pursuit of the philosophers stone” – Joel DeMartino

“…“The Hanged Man” doesn’t appear to be uncomfortable in his suspended state. It suggests he is there by choice and has found peace within the chaos. This card symbolizes new insight, awareness and enlightenment- a way to see the world with a new perspective. So, when we find ourselves getting hung up on the things that are beyond our control, this card reminds us to let go and meditate on the greater good.”- Temple of Shadows (deBlieck & DeMartino)
