Alexisonfire Announce “Otherness,” First Album in 13 Years

ALEXISONFIRE are excited to announce Otherness, the first full-length album in over 13 years from the band Rolling Stone declared “put Canadian post-hardcore on the map.”

Otherness will be released on June 24 via Dine Alone Records.

The album features 10 new tracks, including the explosive first single, “Sweet Dreams of Otherness,” which can be heard HERE.

Read the exclusive interview at SPIN HERE.

The album is produced by AOF and mixed by punk stalwart Jonah Falco (Fucked Up, Career Suicide).

Says George Pettit, “This song was largely Dallas’ brain child, but over the course of writing this record, it became more of a mission statement for the band. It’s kind of about performance and embracing a new found confidence in a state of peculiarity.”

Pre-orders for physical variants are available Friday, March 11 at 11am ET HERE.

Each vinyl variant is 2×12″ with a gatefold jacket and printed inner sleeves. A limited deluxe edition variant, with an alternate lenticular cover, will also be available alongside curated Otherness merchandise. See below for details on all physical variants available for pre-order.

The video for “Sweet Dreams of Otherness,” directed by the inimitable actor/director Jay Baruchel (Goon, This Is The End, Random Acts of Violence, How to Train Your Dragon), premieres via the Alexisonfire YouTube channel at 6pm ET today. Fans can sign up for reminders to view the premiere alongside the band, who will join fans worldwide in conversation in the moments leading up to the premiere.

A continuous thread through the fabric of Alexisonfire is the state of otherness. Otherness drew us all to spaces where a band like this could be formed. We attract the type of individuals that have all felt the sensation of being strange or unique. Perceived or otherwise, otherness has followed us through childhood, adolescence, and into our adult lives. It drives our tastes and proclivities. It bonds us with ourselves and others. And make no mistake, even at our most domestic and mundane moments, we are true outliers. —Otherness mission statement

Otherness is the band’s most cohesive and self-actualized record to date. For those who need a refresher, AOF released four hugely successful studio albums, all Music Canada Platinum-certified: Alexisonfire (2002); Watch Out (2004); Crisis (2006); and Old Crows/Young Cardinals (2009). Crisis debuted at #1 on the Top 200 Soundscan (Canada), and Old Crows/Young Cardinals debuted at #2, and charted at #9 on the US Billboard Independent Album chart. The number of albums made outside of Alexisonfire by different band members over the years — including City and Colour, Dead Tired, You+Me, Dooms Children, and Billy Talent — could fill several record store bins.

The mix of classic Alexisonfire and newfound textures of “Sweet Dreams of Otherness” became a roadmap for the rest of the record. Dallas Green’s engaging croon; the urgent attitude of Wade MacNeil; the heavy bellow of George Pettit; all anchored by a mix of vulnerability, confidence, iconoclasm, and celebratory recklessness. As every Alexisonfire song persistently expands and contracts, bassist Chris Steele and drummer Jordan Hastings remain impossibly tight, locked into unrelenting swinging grooves.

Alexisonfire produced Otherness themselves in roughly a week. They kept it a “family affair,” working closely with folks who’ve been with them for years. Writing took place at the Dine Alone Records clubhouse. The album includes organ, keys, and pedal steel from Green’s longtime collaborator Matt Kelly. Jill Zimmerman and Darren “Jeter” Magierowski (who is also Steele’s cousin) engineered, at Jukasa Recording Studios.

“The biggest difference is the space we are all in. We were all really thrilled to make a record, and it was such a respite from what was going on in the world. It felt like life could be beautiful,” MacNeil says. “We were supportive of one another. Everyone was in such a good mood. It was such a treat to be able to do it again.”

As Revolver noted in 2019, “It’s hard to overstate the influence Alexisonfire had in post-hardcore through the mid-2000s, their combination of singing and screaming setting the blueprint for many artists to come.” Five guys playing aggressive rock (with no less than three of them singing and screaming) grew to a hockey-arena headlining phenomenon while pushing and pulling between spirited guitar leads, melodic might, and emotional weight.

“As much as we love playing the old songs, we don’t want to be a nostalgia act. The only reason to come back is if we feel we still have something to say,” Pettit insists. “We spent so much time on the road thinking that if we stopped, people would lose interest. But when we went away, it only got bigger. We all carved new paths for ourselves, so coming back to Alexisonfire is a purely enjoyable creative venture. Something special happens when we get in a room together.”

Tallah Announce New Album ‘The Generation Of Danger’

Nu-Core quintet Tallah, one of modern metal’s most explosive and unbridled forces, have announced their sophomore full-length album, The Generation of Danger, today. The album will be released on September 9th, via Earache Records and much like their debut album, will revolve around around an elaborate and horrific story, dreamt up by the band that will unfold over the coming months in the build up to release. Pre-orders are available now, HERE.

To further push the world-building boundaries the band are known for, Tallah have also released a desktop video that accompanies today’s announcement. Fans can play HERE to uncover aspects of the dark The Generation of Danger universe including the first new single ‘Telescope‘ and its accompanying music video that was also released today. Watch the video here or by clicking the image below and find the track on streaming platforms HERE.

Speaking on today’s announcement, Tallah frontman, Justin Bonitz shares

“’The Generation Of Danger’ is a completely new and fresh concept for us, both lyrically and instrumentally. We wanted to take what made ‘Matriphagy’ so good and jack it up to 150%. The tracks are monstrous, daunting, and the story the music tells dives into the idea of people hiding what they truly desire until someone else comes along and forces it to surface. It’s a concept album about a genius scientist who gets fed up with being swept under the rug. After the multi-billion-dollar corporation that employs him takes credit for his latest, award-winning invention, he snaps and retaliates against them by forcing them to take part in the greatest experiment the world of science has ever seen.”

Drummer, Max Portnoy adds

“Telescope is one of fastest and most chaotic songs on The Generation Of Danger. It was the first song I started working on for the record and it went through hundreds of changes. It’s one of my top picks from the album with the song having 2 different choruses. One being a melodic one and one with a more rap type of vibe. The song has a lot to offer.” “The TGOD game was something I’ve been wanting to do since we started thinking of unique ways to present this album. It was an idea I hadn’t seen anyone do before and it’s the perfect way of setting up the album’s concept while offering loads of easter eggs and teasers. You’re essentially placed directly into the story and I feel it’s the most immersive thing we’ve ever done. I’m super proud of how it turned out.”

As with Tallah‘s debut full-length, MatriphagyThe Generation Of Danger offers fans more than just an album of pioneering nu-core metal. Whilst it will most certainly be lauded for Justin Bonitz‘s acclaimed aptitude for embodying numerous characters and emotions in his outstanding vocal shape-shifting and ability to meld the ever-blossoming ingenuity of Tallah’s intrepid musicians, The Generation Of Danger will reward those who delve deeper into the album and its supplementary content. The album was recorded once more with producer Josh Schroeder at Random Awesome Studio and continues to build the fascinatingly dark nu-core metal beast Tallah have created and set loose.

Thrice Announce Co-Headline Tour with Bayside and Anxious

After a wildly successful past year following the release of their latest album Horizons/East, California rock band Thrice are embarking on a co-headlining tour with punk outfit Bayside. The tour kicks off on June 3 in McKees Rocks, PA, and will be visiting cities throughout the United States with special guest Anxious. Pre-sale tickets are available now at https://thrice.net/. All additional tickets go on sale Friday, March 11 at 12pm ET on www.thrice.net

On the upcoming tour, Thrice drummer Riley Breckenridge shares, “We had a blast on our Horizons/East headline tour last fall and can’t wait to get back on the road with Bayside and Anxious and share more of the record with you all.”

Released in September 2021 via Epitaph Records, Horizons/East conveys a palpable sense of danger, determination, and possibility. The album exemplifies art as a work of recognition — the human task of perceiving oneself amid details, disasters, and blessings as a relentlessly relational phenomenon among others. In this, Horizons/East is the rare rock album on which interrelatedness is a theme, painting an adventurous and lush landscape mixed by Scott Evans that the band self-produced and recorded at their own New Grass Studio.

A full list of tour dates are below with more information available at www.thrice.net

Thrice + Bayside Co-Headline Tour 2022 Dates

To emerge from a global pandemic with a renewed sense of situational awareness, hard won insight, and a new album is the kind of move we’ve come to expect from Thrice over the last twenty years. With the band’s newest album Horizons/EastDustin Kensrue and his bandmates address, with candor and courage, the fragile and awkward arrangements that pass for civilization, while inviting us to dwell more knowingly within our own lives. Without surrendering any of the energy and hard edge of their previous albums, they’ve given us a profoundly meditative work which serves as a musical summons to everyday attentiveness.

Since forming Thrice with guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge, and drummer Riley Breckenridge in 1998, Kensrue has never been one to back down from a mental fight. Horizons/East communicates comfort with uncertainty, its uncertainty as the beginning of wonder. Not knowing something for certain can occasion a blossom, an opportunity, as opposed to a dead end.

This uncertainty is something the band seems to embrace with their entire career, and especially in their approach to this record, building out their own studio and recording completely on their own, unsure of what exactly they could extract from themselves this time around. Thrice seems ever eager to step out into these spaces unknown to them, unsure of where their feet will land, and the most recent record is no exception.

Horizons/East is available now at https://thrice.ffm.to/horizonseast

Formed in 1998, the Orange County-based four-piece is widely regarded as one of the most innovative rock bands of their generation. Featuring frontman Dustin Kensrue, guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge, and drummer Riley Breckenridge.

“I wanted to capture the confusion of what it’s like to be alive today,” explained Molko of the impetus behind Never Let Me Go, “the feeling of being lost, always walking in a labyrinth, continuously being overwhelmed by information and opinions.”

Daughtry & Tremonti Bring Dearly Beloved to Montclair, NJ

Ever since reviewing Tremonti’s latest studio release, Marching In Time last September, I’ve been waiting with bated breath for the Dearly Beloved Tour to come rolling through The Wellmont Theater.

And that’s just what it did.

Featuring headliners Daughtry with support by Tremonti and Lyell, the tour swept into Montclair NJ this past Wednesday, March 2nd and was greeted by a packed house. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed in the few shows I’ve had the pleasure to cover since live music started to make its comeback, is that fans are getting to the venues much earlier than they used to pre-pandemic. Opening bands are paying to mostly-crowded houses, people are engaging with the artists and just having a damn good time.

Newcomers Lyell kicked off the night with a short but sweet 30-minute set of high energy rock n’ roll. Frontwoman Alyssa Coco did a phenomenal job engaging the crowd, who for the most part were not familiar with the band, but ultimately that did not seem to matter.  I would not be surprised if we start hearing from Lyell much more after this tour. They have a great vibe and a really accessible rock sound that will go over well with many fans.

Shortly before 8pm, Tremonti took the stage and the excitement was palpable. Mine included. Having seen Tremonti before, I knew I was in for another banger of a show, but the real thrill was hearing the new material live for the first time. The band kicked it right off with “Thrown Further” and “If Not For You” from Marching in Time, saving the title track for the midway point in the 8-song set. Mark Tremonti and Eric Friedman’s technical guitar work was flawless and soaring. Bassist Tanner Keegan and drummer Ryan Bennett provided a matching unrelenting beat that was felt right in the gut, in the best way. Ever listen to an album and think, “This will sound absolutely freakin’ amazing live?” Yeah. It was that kind of night.

Headliner Daughtry kicked off its iconic set shortly before 9pm. Backed by an incredible lighting production, the band truly soared through its 14-song set. Having had no previous live-show experience with the band, I was pleasantly surprised by the energy and incredible vocal range on the part of Chris Daughtry throughout the entire night. With a set consisting mostly of new material from Dearly Departed, Daughtry kept the crowd on their feet and engaged through high energy tracks like “Changes are Coming,” and “World on Fire” to the short acoustic performance of “Home” and heartbreaking “Cry for Help.” It’s certainly made me look up Dearly Departed to have a good listen without the distraction of photographing the show. I’m sold and totally recommend you check out the album for yourself, and if you can, definitely grab yourself a ticket to this tour. You won’t regret it.

Knotfest Roadshow 2022 Kicks Off March 16; Wage War To Replace Jinjer

Slipknot are set to kick-off the 2022 iteration of their jaw-dropping Knotfest Roadshow Tour on March 16th. It was announced today that previously announced support, Jinjer, will no longer be joining the tour, as they focus on the safety of their families in their home country of Ukraine. Taking their place on this run will now be metalcore quintet, Wage War.

Eugene Abdukhanov of Jinjer shares the following statement:
“Thank you all for your concerned messages and prayers sent to us over the last week, we may not answer but we are reading them and they mean the world to us. As you know, there is war raging through the streets and cities of Ukraine right now. Many people have little or no food or water and are very afraid of what tomorrow may bring. Together with Napalm Records, we’re releasing two new T-Shirt designs to raise funds to be donated to various charities throughout Ukraine to help with medical and food supplies, water and so on. If you cannot donate then please share this or any news related to what’s really happening here. Each sale may save somebody’s life in Ukraine. Thank you.“

Jinjer have also released two new merch designs to help raise funds to support their country, you can check them out here. 100% of the proceeds will be distributed directly to charity organizations of Jinjer‘s choosing and the band will update fans on social media.

The Knotfest Roadshow tour will take place over two legs, both headlined by Slipknot. The first leg will feature special guests In This Moment and Wage War. The second leg will feature special guests Cypress Hill and Ho99o9. Tickets for all Knotfest Roadshow dates are available now from Knotfest.com/Roadshow/.The first leg of the 38-date run, produced by Live Nation, kicks off in Fargo, ND on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022 and hits a further 17 cities before wrapping up in Vancouver, BC on Sunday, April 17, 2022. The second leg kicks off on Wednesday, May 18th, 2022 in University Park, PA and hits a further 17 cites before culminating on Sunday, June 18, 2022 in Chula Vista, CA. Full routing below.

Knotfest Roadshow‘s return will also feature on-site merchandise from official tour sponsor, Blackcraft Cult.

2021 marked a banner year for Slipknot. Making a triumphant return to the road, their Knotfest Roadshow 2021 tour sold out amphitheaters across the country, bookended with the record-breaking Knotfest Iowa and the biggest headline show of their career, Knotfest Los Angeles at Banc of California Stadium where they debuted their first new music in two years – the furious The Chapeltown Rag taken from the highly anticipated new Slipknot album, expected to release this year. In addition, they topped the bills of multiple, internationally renowned festivals including Riot Fest, Rocklahoma, Inkcarceration, Welcome To Rockville, and more.

Tickets for all Knotfest Roadshow dates are available now from Knotfest.com/Roadshow/.
The tour will be part of Live Nation’s Live Stubs initiative which provides digital collectible NFT ticket stubs to ticket holders. The L.I.F.E. Project Reveal ‘Big F.O.U.R.’ EP and New Single

THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT, the musical meeting of minds between Grammy-nominated STONE SOUR guitarist, Josh Rand and PARALANDRA vocalist/guitarist Casandra Carson, are set to release a new 4-track EP, titled ‘Big F.O.U.R.’ on March 18th via Bloodblast.

The collection features a clutch of cover versions, one each from heavy music’s pioneering icons; METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX. The duo’s take on Anthrax’s ‘Caught In A Mosh’ is revealed today, to coincide with the EP’s pre-order/pre-save here. In addition, the single’s sleeve artwork was designed by none other than ANTHRAX drummer, Charlie Benante.

Discussing the release, Josh Rand tells us:
“Recording a Big F.O.U.R. cover EP is something that I have wanted to do for a very very long time, and last Fall I decided to finally do it with THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT. Without these four bands (METALLICA, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, and SLAYER) my musical career wouldn’t be where it is today. In some ways you could say this project is paying homage to them or, how I see it, a return to where it all started in my parents house as a teenager trying to learn just a piece of the music. Each of the four songs that I picked were pivotal in my development as a musician. Whether it was learning the intro to ‘One’ on guitar, drums on ‘Symphony [Of Destruction]’ or bass lines in ‘Caught in A Mosh’. This EP was a true love and passion project for myself. I feel I captured the vibe and the spirit of the original but with THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT sound. Hopefully you hear it too!”

Rand continues; ‘Among the Living’ is a top three album of all-time for me, so covering ‘Caught in A Mosh’ was a no brainer for us to do.”

CasandraCarson also elaborates;
‘Caught In A Mosh’ has an infectious energy to it, and I’m absolutely stoked with how it turned out.”
Meanwhile, ANTHRAX‘s own Frank Bello comments;
“Casandra sounds great and Josh did an amazing job nailing all the parts on ‘Caught In A Mosh – great job guys!”

Check out the track below.

Stylistically, THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT is a fluid combination of classic metal sensibility and Rand’s penchant for pushing the boundaries of contemporary heavy. Released last summer, THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT‘s debut self-titled EP can be streamed here, with physical CDs and vinyl options available exclusively through the band’s webstore or via the Nuclear Blast store.

Josh and Casandra’s debut single, The Nothingness‘ was featured on several major playlists across streaming platforms including Rock Hard on Spotify, Breaking Metal on Apple Music, Break Through Rock on Amazon and Metal Radar on Deezer. ‘The Nothingness’ was also included on SiriusXM Octane’s Test Drive show on release.

Expect more from THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT in due course.

Shinedown Releases New Music Video “Planet Zero”

Multi-platinum, record-breaking band Shinedown have released the thought-provoking and cinematic music video for lead single “Planet Zero” – PRESS HERE to watch. The video arrives as “Planet Zero” hits #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart this week. The explosive single, the title track from the band’s seventh studio album out April 22 on Atlantic Records, is Shinedown’s 17th #1 and sixth consecutive chart-topper, breaking a new record for the most #1s in the 40-year history of the chart.

Directed by Charles De Meyer, the video brings to life a glimpse of a dystopian future (complete with a menacing A.I. character named Cyren from the album’s interludes who we hear at the end of the music video) that warns of the dangerous dehumanizing consequences of cancel culture run rampant.

On Planet Zero, Shinedown is serving up an incisive look at some of society’s most critical issues, including the increasingly toxic division among those of differing ideologies, the need for honesty in our public discourse, and the corrosive effects of social media and cancel culture on mental health and humanity. The “Planet Zero” single rings the alarm with a cautionary warning that if we shut each other down, we risk losing empathy, respect for one another, and our ability to communicate and unify in a way that leads to actual progress and understanding.

Pre-order Planet Zero HERE. Each pre-order includes an instant download of “Planet Zero.”

Over the last two decades, Shinedown have cemented their status as one of the most vital and forward-thinking powerhouses in modern rock. Their most ambitious and masterfully realized work to date, Planet Zero is a high-concept, ultra-vivid, viscerally charged saga.  A critical yet optimistic look at the fractures and frays of a society that has undergone many challenges in the last few years, the album is part social commentary and part in-depth exploration of the human psyche.  Produced by Shinedown’s Eric Bass (who also produced the band’s 2018 acclaimed album ATTENTION ATTENTION,)and recorded at Bass’ newly built Big Animal Studio in South Carolina, Planet Zeromatches its immersive world-building and takedown of authoritarianism with a deliberately unvarnished sound, and the album is spliced with interludes featuring Cyren, an insidious and unsettling robot character that appears throughout the Planet Zero journey. While a raw ferocity fuels much of Planet Zero on tracks like “The Saints of Violence and Innuendo,” “No Sleep Tonight,” and “America Burning,” there is also hope, triumph, and reminders that we all need one another on songs like “Daylight,” “Dysfunctional You,” and “A Symptom of Being Human.”  After all, it is the band’s impassioned striving for unity that has long been at the heart of their creative output and deeply informed the making of Planet Zero. Not only a driving force for their songwriting, their humanitarian outlook led Shinedown to be one of the first artists to fundraise for non-profit humanitarian aid organization Direct Relief in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, raising more than $400,000 with their “Atlas Falls” relief effort. Full Planet Zero tracklist is below.

Shinedownwill kick off The Revolution’s Live Tour beginning April 1, propelled by the undeniable power of front man Brent Smith’s voice and their biggest stage production yet.  Following this April and May run with special guests The Pretty Reckless and DIAMANTE, Shinedown will head to Daytona Beach for Welcome To Rockville 2022 where they’ll headline Saturday, May 21 alongside Guns N’ Roses and Rise Against. In June, Shinedown will head overseas for a UK and European run featuring festival appearances at Rock im Park and Rock am Ring in Germany, Download Festival in the UK,and HellFest in France along with select shows with Iron Maiden. The band will then embark on a run of Canadian dates beginning in July with support from Pop Evil and Ayron Jones. Full routing below and stay tuned for more touring announcements. For tickets and all show details, please visit www.shinedown.com.

Planet Zero follows Shinedown’s 2018 acclaimed album ATTENTION ATTENTION, which was certified RIAA Gold. The band recently brought the LP to life in a riveting feature film. A visual counterpart to the album’s narrative about a mental health journey and the resolve of the human spirit, the ATTENTION ATTENTION film weaves together the album’s 14 songs into a provocative and thought-provoking cinematic story that illuminates yet another dimension of Shinedown’s limitless creativity. PRESS HERE to watch the trailer. The film, directed by Bill Yukich (Beyoncé, Metallica, Wiz Khalifa) is available for viewing on digital and cable VOD in the U.S. and Canada via iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Vudu, Comcast, Dish Network, Verizon Fios, and Mediacom, and is also available for purchase on Blu-ray and DVD – PRESS HERE to purchase and watch. It will soon be available in other international territories.
