Sessanta V2.0 Celebrates Maynard with A Perfect Circle, Primus, Puscifer

This time it’s P-P-Personal…AGAIN!

Celebrating your 60th birthday is an achievement. Celebrating your 61st birthday is proving you know how to enjoy your life. The Sessanta V2.0 celebration tour of Maynard James Keenan touring with A Perfect Circle, Primus, and Puscifer for so long proves that Maynard knows how to appreciate life in true rockstar fashion.

Seeing this three act breakdown of bands taking turns performing was a refreshing change of pace from standard concert lineups. While all three groups have had their share of success and hits, watching each band enjoy the other bands’ performances from the side is a rarity in the live music world. A Perfect Circle, Primus, and Puscifer are a weird extended family that all love each other.

At the end of the show, all three bands joined the stage to perform several songs together, including a three drummer performance of Primus’ Southbound Pachyderm and the Puscifer song “Grand Canyon” featuring all members of each band performing.

I’m happy this tour continued on from Maynard’s 60th to his 61st. There was a definite comradery with the musicians on stage that you don’t get to see with most concerts as you NEVER get to see all the bands on stage at the same time. You also know this wasn’t a label forced tour with bands who don’t care about each other. A Perfect Circle, Primus, and Puscifer are the weird family, but the family reunion is always a blast.

“Bands often find their creative stride and mainstream success with their third album, delivering a breakthrough that defines their careers. Incubus’ Make Yourself is a prime example, marking a dramatic shift from their earlier funk-metal roots to a polished alternative rock sound. This album produced hits like “Pardon Me,” “Stellar,” and the chart-topping “Drive,” catapulting the band onto radio and MTV, and introducing their music to a global audience for the first time. Similarly, Ghost’s third album, Meliora, saw the Swedish band refine their theatrical heavy metal style, earning widespread acclaim and solidifying their place in the modern rock scene. Slayer’s Reign in Blood, their third studio effort, is often hailed as a landmark in thrash metal, delivering relentless speed and aggression that brought the band critical and commercial recognition. These third albums not only marked turning points for their creators but also left enduring marks on their respective genres, illustrating how the third time can indeed be the charm for bands seeking their breakthrough moment.” (Perplexity)

“Fans initially expected both bands to visit South America, Australia and more, but Bullet for My Valentine will instead “divert [their] full attention towards the next chapter” of the band with plans to enter the studio in the summer.

“As we head into the final shows of The Poisoned Ascendancy tour, we want to thank everyone who’s come out to celebrate with us,” the band wrote. “The shows have been phenomenal and we’ve loved connecting with every single one of you. Being in this band is the most important thing to the four of us. We’re incredibly grateful to have been given the chance to look back at a pair of life-changing albums for us & Trivium, who we have nothing but respect and admiration for.”

After acknowledging the “incredible achievement” of a 20-plus-year career, Bullet for My Valentine said they “can’t wait to get back in the studio later this summer and finish what we promise you is our best album to date. To go along with this, we are already starting to make plans for the 2026 & 2027 touring cycles, hitting every corner.” They ended their statement with a note of gratitude for their fans plus the promise, “We’ll be back with all of you very soon.”

What Did Trivium Say About Bullet for My Valentine Tour Ending? Earlier this week, Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto blamed Bullet for My Valentine frontman Matt Tuck for the Poisoned Ascendancy tour coming to an apparently premature end.

“Matt Tuck didn’t want to do it, after we had planned it, after stuff was already in the works — don’t know why,” Gregoletto said in a livestream. The band later said in a TikTok comment that Tuck was “the sole decision maker of the band and he has no respect for us or our crew.” Despite the public drama, Trivium frontman Matt Heafy expressed his joy and gratitude for the tour in his own statement on Tuesday. “I have loved every show, every day, every minute; from the work I did – I have found myself more present and more appreciative than ever,” he wrote.” (Loudwire

Sleep Token – Even In Arcadia | Album Review

_ _

In Sleep Token’s ongoing takeover of 2025, the band make Even In Arcadia a different and unique album compared to 2023’s Take Me Back To Eden. While a song like “Caramel” shows off the struggle of dealing with fame while trying to stay anonymous and hide in the limelight, the closing tracks “Gethsemane” and “Infinite Baths” are meant to destroy you as a human. The electronic elements are ramped in quantity but still subtle. It’s never overbearing or overtakes Vessel’s vocals or II’s incredible drumming. The fourth wall is not broken in Arcadia, it’s demolished. Sleep Token don’t hold back on their exposure and what they are dealing with now, but they explained in the best way possible. The heavy moments, when they do hit, are thunderous. The piano and keyboard arrangements are great as well. This album will not be as heavy as some people want, but with Sleep Token it’s hard to know what to expect. If genre fusion is the future of metal, then Sleep Token made their Emergence as the front runner.

Sleep Token – Even In Arcadia | Album Review

“Even in Arcadia is the fourth studio album by anonymous English progressive metal band Sleep Token. It was released on 9 May 2025 by RCA Records. The album garnered significant media attention amid an unorthodox marketing campaign that has included a weatherman at WRAL in North Carolina providing hints to release dates and album singles.” (Wikipedia)

“Ghost grabs the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the first time, as the Swedish hard rock band’s new studio effort Skeletá debuts atop the tally (dated May 10) with 86,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week ending May 1, according to Luminate. Of the album’s starting sum, 89% was driven by traditional album sales — buoyed by a big vinyl sales figure. Skeletá launches with Ghost’s best week ever by both equivalent album units and traditional album sales.” (Billboard)

ICE NINE KILLS Slaughters Crowd in Richmond, VA

On Tuesday, April 28, 2025, fans of the heavy metal band Ice Nine Kills descended upon Richmond, VA to pack into The National. As someone who has grown up around Richmond and has attended many a show at that venue, I have never seen a crowd as large as it was for this show; in fact, I don’t think there was ever a time I saw the line to get in the venue stretch back several blocks like it did for this one.

This particular show was bound to draw a crowd, as it was one of only three like it. The “Pick Your Poison” shows, with the first being Richmond’s, left the setlist up to the discretion of the fans. This show’s setlist was entirely curated by the fans, who were able to vote on which songs they wanted to hear performed live. The other two shows will be in Omaha, NE on May 15 and St. Louis, MO on May 27. This type of show showcased not only the theatrical prowess of the band, but their dedication to the fanbase by granting them the opportunity to select their favorites to hear and see live.

The spine-chilling show opened with “Funeral Derangements,” setting the horrifying mood for the evening. Because the setlist was fan voted, no one knew what songs to expect, so every song played was a surprise. If you’ve never experienced an INK show, it truly is a theatrical performance. From the haunting props and visuals, to the actors that perform on stage with the band, each song is its own separate show. This was not just a concert – it was an immersive horror experience.

This show was truly one-of-a-kind. By allowing the fans to have a hand in deciding the fate of the setlist, the band created what was undoubtedly an unforgettable experience.

Setlist:

  1. Funeral Derangements
  2. The American Nightmare
  3. Thank God It’s Friday
  4. Ex-Mortis
  5. Rainy Day
  6. Stabbing in the Dark
  7. The Shower Scene
  8. The Fastest Way to a Girl’s Heart is Through Her Ribcage
  9. IT Is the End
  10. Walking on Sunshine
  11. Communion of the Cursed
  12. Hip to Be Scared
  13. A Grave Mistake
  14. Wurst Vacation
  15. Meat & Greet
Encore
  1. Welcome to Horrorwood
  2. A Work of Art

Recently, Ice Nine Kills also released “A Work of Art (Live In Australia). Filmed at the band’s recent sold-out show at Melbourne’s John Cain Arena, the bloodthirsty video offers a visceral examination of INK’s latest single, which was featured in the No. 1 horror blockbuster Terrifier 3 and has slayed Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart for 18 weeks and counting.

STARSET Share Cover of “Head Over Heels”

Visionary, sci-fi-inspired rock collective STARSET
are back with a new song, but it’s not an original new single.

Rather, it’s a cover of an ’80s classic — “Head Over Heels” by English pop rockers Tears for Fears. The track is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and this rendition demonstrates how timeless the songwriting is, as it lends itself to a reworking with STARSET’s unique hard rock flair.

With a staggering 5 billion streams and a rapidly growing rabid global fanbase, 2024 sees STARSET poised to rise as one of rock’s next superstar acts.

Starset is an American rock band from Columbus, Ohio, formed by Dustin Bates in 2013. They released their debut album, Transmissions, in 2014 and their second album, Vessels, on January 20, 2017. The band has found success in expanding the ideas of their concept albums through social media and YouTube, with the band generating over $230,000 in revenue from views from the latter as of November 2016. The hip-hop duo Outkast fills out the Performers category, also on its first nomination. Ghost – Skeletá | Album Review

_

The next chapter of Ghost relishes in the soundtrack of 80’s and classic metal. With comparisons to Yes, Journey, Dokken, and even some Blue Oyster Cult thrown in, Skeletá is much less groove filled rock tracks but instead power ballads for days. The singles, also the first three tracks on the album, are somewhat more tame compared to later in the album when solos and instrumental arrangements come out swinging. Skeletá feels like a dark arena show in 1984 and that vibe holds up until the end, especially with tracks  like “Marks Of the Evil One” and “Umbra”. All that said, this album will further divide the metal elitists and Ghost fans. Whatever arguments people say about Ghost not being heavy enough will only be amplified with this album as evidence. Skeletá is a complete album experience, and potentially a great daily soundtrack.  I need to study up on my Latin, but I still enjoy what Tobias Forge is creating.
