RIOT FEST 2025 Lineup Announced ft. Green Day, Blink-182, Weezer, More

RIOT FEST 2025
Festival turns 20 featuring
Green Day, Weezer, Blink-182

What’s my age again? Riot Fest is turning the big 2-0, and to celebrate it’s throwing the biggest party yet, headlined by Green Day, Blink-182, Weezer, Jack White, and a total of over 90 bands performing throughout the festival weekend. “I just wanted to put a show together with all of my favorite bands”, festival founder Michael Petryshyn reminisced before the inaugural Riot Fest back in 2005.

Throughout the next 20 years, the festival has grown to become one of the biggest independent festivals in the country, known for eclectic lineups, high-profile band reunions, full album plays, and even a butter sculpture tribute to John Stamos. Along with headliners Green Day, Blink-182, Weezer, and Jack White, the festival will also include performances by the Sex Pistols (Frank Carter and Steve Jones, Paul Cook, Glen Matlock), Idles, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Alkaline Trio, All Time Low, Knocked Loose, Rilo Kiley, The Beach Boys, Jawbreaker, Dropkick Murphys, Bad Religion, The Pogues, The Hold Steady, The Academy Is…, Cobra Starship, Gym Class Heroes, Texas is the Reason, Dance Hall Crashers, The Front Bottoms, Knuckle Puck, The Wonder Years, James, and many many more.

RIOT FEST 2025 Lineup Announced ft. Green Day, Blink-182, Weezer, More

Born and raised in Chicago, Riot Fest began as a punk rock festival spread across the city’s favorite local venues. Over the years, it’s earned a reputation for reuniting bands that fans had lost hope of ever seeing again, including The Replacements, The Original Misfits, Slayer, Jawbreaker and many more. While the festival remains the centerpiece, the music isn’t limited to one weekend a year. For over two decades, Riot Fest has hosted thousands of shows in independent venues throughout the city, supporting Chicago’s thriving music scene.

“We didn’t plan on making it for twenty years. We planned on making it through one weekend. But here we are – still loud, still weird, still building something bigger than we ever meant to.” ‘Riot Mike’ Petryshyn Riot Fest returns to Chicago’s Douglass Park from September 19-21, its home since 2015. A newly announced long-term agreement with the Chicago Park District ensures the festival will remain a Chicago staple for years to come.

Along with the massive lineup, Riot Fest will also be celebrating 20 Years, 20 Essential Albums. 20 full album playthroughs from 20 bands across the weekend.

10 Bands Whose DEBUT ALBUM Was Their Best Album

There is something impressive about a group that has their debut album stand the test of time AFTER releasing other big albums. This video looks at 10 Bands Whose Debut Album Was Their Best Album.

10 Bands Whose DEBUT ALBUM Was Their Best Album

“Few achievements in music rival the impact of a debut album that becomes an artist’s magnum opus, and Pearl Jam’s Ten (1991) alongside Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction (1987) epitomize this rare feat. Ten catapulted Pearl Jam into grunge royalty, blending Eddie Vedder’s haunting vocals with anthemic tracks like “Alive” and “Jeremy,” solidifying its legacy as a cornerstone of 1990s alternative rock. Similarly, Appetite for Destruction redefined hard rock with raw energy and hits like “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” becoming the best-selling debut album ever with over 30 million copies sold.” (Rolling Stone)

WE CAME AS ROMANS Return With “Bad Luck”

WE CAME AS ROMANS
Return With Defiant New Anthem
“BAD LUCK”
Listen HERE | Watch Visualizer HERE

Beloved metalcore torchbearers We Came As Romans are back today with a searing new single, “Bad Luck”. The track marks the band’s first release of 2025 and kicks off a bold new chapter following their critically acclaimed 2022 album ‘Darkbloom’. Fueled by thunderous grooves, anthemic hooks, and raw reflection, “Bad Luck” is a statement of defiance from a band that’s weathered more than most. Listen HERE and watch the visualizer HERE or by clicking the thumbnail below.

Speaking on their new single, frontman Dave Stephens shares

“Bad Luck is a song that is so important to each of us. Lyrically, it’s about our journey as a band since the very beginning. We’ve faced so many setbacks and problems behind the scenes, and sometimes it feels like Bad Luck is all we have — but the way that we’ve persevered through all of them to become who we are today is the real story, not the issues along the way.”

We Came As Romans “Bad Luck”

Bad Luck” opens with an eerie, looped vocal sample before exploding into a hammering riff and a soaring chorus. The lyrics lay bare years of struggle, survival, and growth, culminating in another of their signature, arena-ready choruses –  “I spent all my life wondering why the bad luck always comes so easy… All this time, I’ve realized the worse things in life are free.” It’s a fierce reckoning with everything the band has persevered through together and a hard-earned rally cry—one that captures the essence of We Came As Romans’ evolution and unwavering commitment to push forward.

With performances already announced at major US summer festivals including Welcome To Rockville, Inkcarceration, the returning Warped Tour, Louder Than Life and When We Were Young and with plenty more news to come from We Came As Romans, 2025 is shaping up to be another stellar year for a band that have remained a defining force in heavy music for almost two decades. Keep an eye out for more coming very soon.

ABOUT WE CAME AS ROMANS

We Came As Romans continue to progress and evolve at lightspeed, maintaining a place at the forefront of heavy music and culture. Never content to follow, they seamlessly alchemize crushing groove-driven catharsis, spacey electronics, and arena-size singalongs into a sound that refuses to sit still—effortlessly moving between metal, alternative, hardcore, and rock.

The Michigan-born five-piece—Dave StephensJoshua MooreLou CottonAndy Glass, and David Puckett—first broke through with Tracing Back Roots (2013), which cracked the Billboard 200 Top 10 and hit #1 on both the Independent Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts. Their self-titled 2015 album followed, debuting at #11 on the Billboard 200, cementing their status as modern metalcore royalty.

Following the tragic loss of original vocalist Kyle Pavone in 2018, the band has continued to honor his legacy with their 2022 album, Darkbloom, their highest-praised record to date. Kerrang! awarded it 4 out of 5 stars, calling it “a carrier for a knot of emotion, and a tribute to their friend.” It featured career-defining tracks like “Black Hole” (ft. Caleb Shomo), now over 102 million Spotify streams, and “Daggers” (ft. Zero 9:36), which surpassed 32 million streams. Media outlets including Loudwire and Consequence praised the album for its emotional range, sonic heft, and unapologetic vulnerability.

Bad Luck” is the next step in their journey—an anthem born of loss, scars, heart, and unrelenting drive.

“Disturbed’s David Draiman has responded to Billie Joe Armstrong’s viral moment at Coachella in which he changed the lyrics of “Jesus of Suburbia” to “Running away from pain like the kids from Palestine. Draiman has been very vocal on social media in his support of Israel since tensions reignited after Hamas militants launched an attack and took hostages at the Tribe of Nova music festival east of Gaza in 2023. More than 1,200 people were killed and over 250 hostages were taken by the terrorists in the attack. Among those who lost their lives was former Desolated bassist Jake Marlowe, who had been working security at the festival.” (Loudwire)

SPIRITBOX Crash Maryland With Tsunami Sea Tour

Tsunami Sea has helped solidify Canada’s Spiritbox in heavy music. They were already a big deal in that realm but with the force this band has brought in 2025, it truly feels like Spiritbox have stepped up several levels above their peers. The Tsunami Sea North American Tour reinforced that belief with a high-end stage setup and the band able to perform a variety of tones and sound that even the MGM National Harbor staff who were not into that style, all nodded their head in approval.

The setlist featured many of the new tracks from Spiritbox’s latest release and it was refreshing to hear and see how well the new material translates live. So often bands will nail a recorded performance with endless production enhancement. Spiritbox was able to showcase everything they make live in front of an almost all black wearing audience (the MGM National Harbor Staff probably wasn’t used to that either).

I arrived to this concert with no voice and feeling under the weather. I left happy knowing I got to see a great performance from a band that has earned the sold out venues they are currently achieving. Spiritbox is on the path to headlining festivals if this trajectory continues.

Scroll below to see the Maryland setlist, our album review of Tsunami Sea, and music videos for the new album.

SLAYER To Perform Massive Headline Show In Hershey, PA

SLAYER ADDS MASSIVE U.S. EAST COAST HEADLINE SHOW
TO THE BAND’S 2025 NORTH AMERICAN CONCERTS RUN
WWE SUPERSTAR DAMIAN PRIEST WILL HOST
Fans Treated to a Truly Epic Heavy Metal Concert Line-up that Features
a Mix of Legendary Bands with Acclaimed Newer Artists

Today, Slayer announces a one-night-only show just added to the band’s handful of headline concerts set for this summer.  Marking the band’s only U.S. East Coast performance in 2025, Slayer will headline Hershey, PA’s 30,000-seat Hersheypark Stadium on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Ticket pre-sales are available beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, April 8 at 10AM ET, ahead of the general on-sale set for Friday, April 11 starting at 10AM ET. All tickets can be purchased at www.slayer.net. Doors are at 3PM ET and the show kicks off at 4PM ET.

The concert will be hosted by WWE Superstar Damian Priest, a well-known “metalhead” and a long-time Slayer fan. Priest’s signature “finisher” is Slayer’s “South of Heaven,”and Slayer’s Kerry King provided guitar for Priest’s “Rise For The Night” Theme.

This exclusive concert brings together a multi-generation, powerhouse line up:
Slayer
Knocked Loose
Suicidal Tendencies
Power Trip
Cavalera (performing Chaos A.D. – exclusive)
Exodus (performing Bonded by Blood)

For more than four decades, Slayer’s onslaught has proved the band to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the planet, the band that other heavy acts are still measured against and aspire to. Their membership in “The Big Four” – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – the four bands that defined the thrash/metal genre – secures their place in music history.

The five-time nominated, two-time Grammy winners have also accumulated an abundance of certified Gold Albums along with “Best…” awards from media outlets all over the world, including Kerrang!SPINMetal HammerRevolver, and Esquire. Throughout Slayer’s history, the band never faltered in unleashing its extreme and focused sonic assault, and, unlike many of its contemporaries who commercialized their sound, Slayer remained crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream. Slayer’s founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed in 2013, and Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling that spot since. Paul Bostaph, who was Slayer’s drummer from ’94 – ’01, rejoined bassist/vocalist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King in 2013, and remains back behind the kit.

In January 2018, Slayer announced they were calling it a day and would be doing one final world tour to thank its fans for their support over the years. Launched on May 10, 2018, by the time the 18-month tour wrapped on November 30, 2019, Slayer had played 148 shows, performing in 34 countries and 146 cities around the world, and in 40 U.S. states. In September, 2024, Slayer surprised fans with the news that they would headline three, major summer U.S. festivals – Riot Fest, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock.  While Slayer has no plans to do any extensive touring, the band likely will continue to play some one-off shows, such as the up-coming Black Sabbath concert in the UK, a handful of headline UK dates, and select major festivals.  All Hail Slayer.

Scowl – Are We All Angels | Album Review

_

There is a new force in punk and hardcore and alternative. Scowl combines all three into one perfectly blended green haired smoothie. Are We All Angels was boasted big time by the singles, especially “Tonight, I’m Afraid” and “Not Hell, Not Heaven”. The 33-minute run time helped prove the singles are not just one-offs. This album has strong writing and hooks, great basslines, and Kat Moss who is proving to be a force both lyrically and vocally. Through all the speed changes and tones within the album, you never feel anything is out of place or the band is reaching to do something they are uncomfortable with. If anything this album shows how much Scowl are capable of while still bursting with identity. The lyric line of “I don’t want to be special.”, Scowl’s Are We All Angles is special and I hope this album draws the attention of every type of punk and hardcore fan. 9/10.

Scowl – Are We All Angels | Album Review
Scowl “Tonight (I’m Afraid)”
Scowl “Special”

“Scowl is an American rock band from Santa Cruz, California. The band consists of singer Kat Moss, guitarists Malachi Greene and Mikey Bifolco, bassist Bailey Lupo, and drummer Cole Gilbert. Scowl has toured and shared the stage with bands like Circle Jerks and Negative Approach, System Of A Down, Korn, Turnstile and Deftones, Limp Bizkit, and toured Australia in May and June of 2023 with Sunami and Speed. The band also played the 2023 edition of the famed Coachella festival. In a 2022 interview with hardcore magazine In Effect singer Kat Moss said about touring: “We are focused heavily on touring as much as possible! We are trying to hit all the places in the US that we haven’t played yet as well as across the pond!” (Wikipedia)

Rise Against Release New Single Weighing Art, Autonomy & Mental Health: “Prizefighter”

On the heels of playing LA’s Kia Forum, and releasing “the anthem we need right now” (VICE), Rise Against have shared their second new single of 2025. Out now on Loma Vista Recordings, “Prizefighter” illustrates the internal battle between making art, maintaining autonomy, and meeting the demands of the present day’s never-ending, rapidly-shifting attention span. Rise Against vocalist and lyricist Tim McIlrath says, “‘Prizefighter’ is about a compulsion to create, that then creates an audience, and then your connection with that audience and your responsibilities to that audience, and how much an artist is obliged to that audience. It’s trying to reconcile the shift from spectator to the public arena, and what you owe the people that are your fans versus what you owe your own mental health.”

Listen to “Prizefighter” and watch the video, showcasing the symbolism behind the song, the roaring energy of Rise Against’s live shows, and the deep devotion of their fans:

“Prizefighter” follows Rise Against’s blazing return with “Nod” – their first new single in three years – which arrived days after the presidential inauguration, and delivered “a particularly potent rallying cry for the moment” (Rolling Stone). Quickly uniting millions in its call for community and compassion, encouraging listeners to not sit idly by as world events, societal changes and technology shape our ways of life, Rise Against have since toured across three continents this year, and have made “Nod” a highlight of their live sets. Watch the video here.

Produced by Catherine Marks (Boygenius, Foals, Manchester Orchestra, St. Vincent) and mixed by Alan Moulder (Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, Queens of the Stone Age, The Killers), “Prizefighter” now marks a propulsive page-turn in Rise Against’s next chapter, revealing another side of the band’s outspoken perspective and prescient point of view.

Like the body of multi-Gold and Platinum hits that have come before, “Prizefighter” and “Nod” further amplify the type of invigorating music, defiant messages and bulletproof melodies that have earned billions of streams, filled arenas, topped charts, broken records, and, above all, joined fans in an embrace of vital issues. Just as the stakes could not be higher, the Chicago punk rock band is back bigger, louder and more progressive than ever.

Currently in the midst of their Rise of The Roach tour, band members Tim McIlrath (lead vocals/guitar), Joe Principe (bass/vocals), Zach Blair (guitar/vocals) and Brandon Barnes (drums) will be on the road all year long, with a slew of summer festivals, dozens of arena and amphitheatre shows, and more on the horizon, all throughout the US and abroad. “Things were at one time looking up for the revitalized Linkin Park. I’d say that time was from the moment they announced the reunion/tribute effort and the realization that their new vocalist Emily Armstrong had ties to Scientology and a convicted rapist. Ever since then, they’ve dropped a very “meh” album in From Zero and played a long list of shows all over the world. With their new single “Up From the Bottom” out now and their North American tour coming up soon, it seems interest in seeing the Chester Bennington-less version of the band has begun to wane. Things have apparently fallen off so much that the band is having a hard time getting asses in seats.” (MetalSucks)
