Gojira have become icons within the metal community but at the same time never get enough credit or praise. France’s heavy metal band have stormed through Europe and the US many trips over and every time I see them, they impress me that much more.
This was the second time I had seen Gojira perform live in 2019. The first was at Sonic Temple Festival where Christian was immolated to the metal gods on stage but continued on even after being burned by a stray pyro flame. I have to say I prefer the band members not on fire and safe to the alternative. They put on a better show that way.
Hearing songs like “Stranded” and “Toxic Garbage Island” get blasted to thousands is always mesmerizing. It’s rare that St. Louis gets to see Gojira in all their glory but Knotfest Roadshow was a special occasion and the Frenchmen delivered. As it has been several years since Magma, I think I can speak for many when I say that we are hoping for new Gojira music soon.
