The first Foo Fighters album since the passing of Taylor Hawkings. But Here We Are is filled with grief and the catharsis of trying to move on. The softer, intimate moments are the clearest. There are big rock moments and choruses but for the most part, this is a tribute to important people lost: Taylor Hawkins and Virginia Grohl. The big rock song like “Rescued” and “Under You” are fun but the deep moments like the title track, “The Glass”, and “The Teacher” really show you the loss the band feels. Lyrically descriptive and not so much about hooks as about expressions, which is something that the band haven’t always done. They stretched themselves and made something strong. It’s awful that Foo Fighters had to lose so many people close to them, but they proved they can keep moving and are still here with But Here We Are. 8/10.

From Google Bard: “But Here We Are is the eleventh studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters, released on June 2, 2023. Produced by Greg Kurstin and the band itself, it is their first studio album since the death of their longtime drummer, Taylor Hawkins, in March 2022. Frontman Dave Grohl performed and recorded the entirety of the album’s drum tracks in Hawkins’ absence. Four singles, “Rescued, “Under You”, “Show Me How” and “The Teacher” were released ahead of the album, while drummer Josh Freese was announced as Hawkins’ replacement for touring after its release.
The album’s sound has been described as a return to the band’s earlier, more garage rock-inspired sound, with Grohl’s gritty vocals and guitar playing taking center stage. Lyrically, the album explores themes of loss, grief, and resilience, with Grohl writing about his experiences in the wake of Hawkins’ death.
But Here We Are has received positive reviews from critics, with many praising its raw emotion and powerful performances. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the band’s tenth consecutive album to top the chart.
